Heres a 'pick of mid-week' :) This is just a filler song until our next pick.

)

-One of my favorite songs from sigaram. Excellent lyrics by VM(except the last line of second charanam), beautiful voice of chitra and SPB makes this song very enjoyable.

It's a simple melody. It's elevated, as you pointed out, by the good lyrics and soulful rendition of SPB & KSC.

I think we concur on the favorite lines:

"SPB: en vaazhkayennum koppayil ithu enna baanamo
parugaamale rusi aerudhe ithu enna jaalamo"

and the excellent rejoinder

"KSC: pasi enbathe rusi allavaa"

RR,

>> "KSC: pasi enbathe rusi allavaa" >>

That was poignant no?!!!!! :=)

That song always brings me the goosebumps! :=)

Ramki,

entha varigaLai kuRippidukiReerkaL?

"nee keerthanai - nAn prArthanai
porunthAmal pOgumA"

intha varigaLaiyA?!!

I guess VM refers to the "standard" usage of "keerthanaikaL" for "invocation of the divine"?

And it also jells with the situation of the lovers(him being a music director and she a singer)

:=)

-IMO that line looks out of place in the beautiful poem..like a jarring note.
He could have written 'nee thenkural naan mellisai inaiyaamal pogumaa' :)

Btw do you know the situation of the song? I havent watched the movie but loved almost all the songs from the film(except on spshailaja solo-all other songs were good)

I agree!

Infact, on second thought i would imagine - VM would have suggested something like this - but may be ananthu ( the director of "sigaram") wanted a more "conventional" uvamAna varigaL there?!! ??

I'm not sure about the excact situation - but i just remember that SPB plays an upcoming music director, with Radha playing an MBBS student who is deeply into singing as a passion - and they both fall in love - music binds them together - and this song is their expression of mutual love!

hhhw,

gimme the link to that pulamaippiththan thread buddy! am not sure abt which one u r referring to!
