Review - Inimey Naangathan

Producer: S. Sri Devi
Story, Screenplay, Dialogues and Direction: S. Venki Prabhu
Animation: Maaya Bimbam Media.
Music: Ilayaraja.
Choreography: Siva Shankar
Lyrics: Vaali

Amidst of commercial and offbeat flicks making their way onto the screens in Kollywood this year, here comes another set of movie to break the trend and that’s an animation film. I cannot say that Inimey Naangathan is not something new to the audience, since you all might have seen animation films like Hanuman and many others, but all belong to the mythological category. But this is the first animation film to be have made on social theme by presenting you all the moral that ‘Selfishness and Jealousy is more dangerous than a serpent’s poison’.

The film revolves around the lives of four different characters Viswanathan aka Vicchu, Vaidyanathan aka Vaidhi, Varadharajan aka Varadhu and Venkata Govindhu aka Govindu. All these men live in the same village and leading a life without any proper ambition. All that they aim is to become rich like Bill Gates without working hard. It is at one point of time; they meet an old woman in the town who advises them to climb up to Hilly region where they would find a Hermit and he is the only one who could satisfy all their needs.

They keep moving on the mountainous region and meet the hermit who says that he would grant them all their needs but under one condition. The condition is that they must get a Rudhraaksha of Hermit that is carried away by an evil force. And also adds that when they get back the thing he had asked for, he in turn would give what they ask for.

All these four friends keep traveling together in search of Rudraaksha where on the way they get distracted by lots of temptations. Three among four friends develop a kind of jealousy and try to kill one another and finally it is Viswanathan who wins over all the temptations and gets back what hermit had asked for. When he gets granted with all the wealth he had asked for, he refuses to take it saying that he had done all these things out of selfishness and now on he will start working hard with all his strength and earn the wealth.

Before valuating the film, it is my task to express my gratitude to Director Mr. S. Venki Prabhu for coming up with a different film with boldness and he has proved to be a trendsetter. Not only paying attention to the animation and computer graphics, but also to the story, screenplay, especially the dialogues that are mind blowing. It is great on the part of S. Sri Devi for producing an animation film at the cost of Rs. 3.60 Crore.

Speaking about the characterizations, it is the voices rendered by great personalities of Kodambakkam who have breathed their life on all the animated characters. It is M.S. Bhaskar who renders his voice for the character of Viswanathan, Vasu Vikram for Vaidhyanathan, Paandu for Varadharajan and Maaran for Venkata Govindhu.

Siva Shankar who choreographed for great songs like Manmadha Rasa from Thiruda Thirudi and Innisai from Varalaaru has directed songs for the animated characters in this film. Melodies tuned by maestro Ilayaraja are excellent piece and singers like Madhu Balakrishnan, Sriram Parthasarathy, Mayilsamy, G.K have made the songs sound good with their molded voice. Ilayaraja has sung for one song titled ‘Unnai Kael Unnai Kael’ and it’s a good presentation from him.

B. Lenin on the other hand has done a wonderful job by working with proper of sense of editing and the hero over here in this film is Maaya Bimbam Media who has worked on animation and computer graphics for this film.

The film is more interesting to watch and that’s not only for the purpose of entertainment or to kill your time, but it has something great to convey and that’s the moral of avoiding Jealousy and Selfishness in the lives of mankind for that would destroy one’s life itself. Director S. Venki Babu has aimed for children as the target audience and it is with this idea he has brought this moral into the screen.

Hats off to the entire team for making a great exceptional film and you please watch this film and give them a good welcome.
