I'm sure 'nAn pooveduththu' will win by miles for the best ever combo in TFM - IR-SPB-SJ!

"Oru Nilavum Malarum" - for the racy tune, for Orchestration, for SPB. A song which was a find for me few years back and am fascinated by it ever since.
Orchestration is one of its kind wherein Tamil Folk meets disco meets arabic meets electronic. A song which can beat any attempt of fusion, of any other composer, by miles ahead.
One cannot stop dancing to its rhythm even if he doesnt know the language. Raaja the king of Rhythm :2thumbsup:

Though I voted Pattu Poovae, I also liked Mandhaveli Manja kili songs VERY much especially because SPB rendered it. Free flowing tune.

Yeah! One of the factors of selecting such movie is to bring awareness to many IR fans about such non-pupular but worthy songs.

After seeing the names "pattu poove" and "sembaruthi" I confused this with that Prashanth movie.. but what a revelation!
"Oru Nilavu" is the clear winner for me. Interesting usage of shehnai in such a fast paced song (first interlude). I also liked "Sembaruthi" and "Angel". "Naan pooveduthu" is ok.. SJ upto her usual antics!

The only song that was a hit across all segments -esp. buses - is 'pooveduththu' IMO. I remember hearing 'pattuppoovE' also quite a number of times but 'pooveduththu' was clearly the winner among TN masses.

(Hubbers may feel the other songs are better, though, and those may get more votes here)

Once in an interview with Madhan in Vijay TV, Kamal mentioned about censorship in India and this song in particular that it sounds and means different but the actual meaning was never understood by the 'Dumbs' at Censor board  Madhan Intervened and said 'Illa neenga ippa antha meaninga solla vaendaam'
No wonder this was a popular song among masses who enjoys the double meaning lyrics unilaterally :|
It was a good melody no second thoughts about it, but its popularity had some inner reasons I believe.

Wht happ to

angel adum oonjal?

I remember vaguely hearing these songs in vividh bharathi those days. I supp naan oru thozhilaali songs didn't make it big :?

I was NOT fond of "naan pooveduthu" its so boring! and sleepy

Sembaruthu, didn't come anywhere to win the heart.

I am contemplating bet 'pattup poov'e and 'oru nilavum malarum'.

Very tough to choose! SPB rock in both, not to mention sj's expressive modulations!

Variations go high and drop down soooooooo beautifully in both songs!

I am deciding
(after listening once more)
....

Fine... Though I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE nilavum malarum...

I supp, I cant resist....

the combination of rough voice (almost like RDB... ) (this man is amazing! ) and melody beat with which pattup poove is delivered!

Song which makes u dance to the rhythm.

:redjump:

So...

its "pattup poove" for me!

Thanks 'entertainemnet' for re-introducing lovely IR nectors! :redjump:

Even I voted "Pattu Poovae". The reason is the same as what you have pointed out. I wonder what would be the fate of this song if SPB did not render it.

Such songs make me feel even IR would not have captured these many hearts if SPB, Janaki, Chitra were not with him.

I gave another listen to all the songs. Still 'pooveduththu' rules, being the only "completely satisfying" song, while others are brilliant here and there but turn me off in parts.

Agreed, 'pooveduththu' is the 'matRa vagai'ppAdal - remember nilA kAydudhu? Still, other songs don't even come anywhere close to it, IMO.

'Angel' got recycled by IR as 'enakkuththAn' in vElaikkAran (that's a nice song with excellent guitar work and again has some more similarities with 'kAdhal rAgamum kanniththamizhum' of Indiran Chandran)

voted for 'Pattu poove unnai parthaal' , which wins the competition hands down.As Shakthiprabha said, it is an high energy song with nice rythem.

Shakthiprabha , the songs naan pooveduthu, pattup poove and oru nilavum were hits and famous. But the movie was a flop thtas why you felt that way.

I supp u ARE right in a way!

What a grand performance by spb  I always feel, such rough/harsh/manly voice rendering can be done by spb too well.

SPB/JANAKI's emotive rendering added the tempo and crown for IR

AND

vice versa too! Had it not been for singers like spb etc to sing his tune with so much life, IR would have taken time to make impact :?

I supp we cant decide which rules over as they compliment each other TOO WELL!

After repeated thinking, I feel IR did have an edge, after all tune and bg matters and many singers like kjy, deepan etc have also shone EQUALLY well

A lively album with an interesting mix.
A dream combo of legendary director Sridhar, Kamal, IR turned sour with IR alone emerging unscathed , thanks to Ceylon radio which already made few songs like "Angel" , "naan pooveduthu" and "pattu poove" popular. The film bombed at BO due to torturous delay of over 7 to 8 years in the making . The poor production value[ It was nightmarish to watch the switch between late 70's Kamal in one shot and late 80's Kamal in the next] , insipid story, screenplay all pulled the film down to deep pit.
Coming to the songs, Iam unable to vote as the poll seems to be closed :(
I would have voted for the very pleasing SJ solo "ayirathil nee oruvan" - It is set to Mohanam tune and SJ oozes that extra sweeetness and coy to this song. The interludes rae haunting with flute passages and guitar , in the vintage Raja mould
My next choice would be "pattu poove" - SPB and Raja at their freaky best. SPB apes Kishore kumar with a heavy set voice
Oru nilavum malarum - Third in my order of priority. I love its hectic pace and the tongue twister of a tune and notes
Chembaruthi poove - My husband's favourite , fun filled duet song in this album . It is interesting to observe how Raja has used almost the same interludes of this "over the top" song for a sober, soulful number "nilavu thoongum neram" , a few years later.
"Angel " - a nice number with mild middle eastern flavour in the interludes, sung neatly by PS. But, why does her voice sound so sad? Isn't the song meant to bring a sensual mood?
"MandaveLi manja kiLi" - An energetic kuthu in "Shanmugapriya" scale but in punjabi bhangra style. SPB's show all the way. Resembles "abisheka nerathil ambaaLai" song.
"Naan pooveduthu" - Last in my list. A sad "Sivaranjani" scale used for an erotic, romantic situation . One of Raja's eccentricities
