Dev,we are actually planning a Travel forum, but adhukkullE neenga mundhitenga :P

I was in Trivandrum for 1.5 days and went to the following places:

- Padmanabha palace (its actually in TN but run by Kerala govt)

- Padmanaban temple - hubby needs to wear vEshtti and no shirt - they are very strict about this.

- Accommodation - go for Magic Eyes - excellent rooms and great food. The buffet dinner is just Rs200 and is great!

- Backwaters - not to be missed. Take the 2 hour boat ride, bring your camera and video camera.
Stop by at the floating restaurant and order your lunch. Then go over to the beach and catch the splendour of the Arabian sea. 20 mins your meal will be ready!

- Ayur Vedic oil massage - give it a miss. I got conned. :oops2:

- Shopping - not great but Parthas is not bad. Heard that it is Tamil owned.
Buy a Kerala saree :P

- Catch a Tamil movie in the cinema :D

- Don't miss eating the fish there. Vege food is not as easily available as in TN.

- Coffee is horrible.

- Almost everyone speaks/knows Tamil

Check out Cholamandalam Artists's village on ECR. They have some real good stuff but may be on the higher end.

There are some art galleris like Vipaksha, Apparao etc. - I have only read about them though.

Poompuhar - the TN's government's handicraft showrooms are in many places in TN. They are a decent bet.

Victoria Technical Insitute on Mount Road in Chennai is said to have really good stuff. But it's slightly pricey compared to other places.

dev,
Coimbatore to Trivandrum could be more than 6 hours, unless you're speeding @ midnight among drunk truck drivers :-)

You could probably reach Kochi in about 3 hours from Cbe, if you drive. (Train'll take 4 hours).

Ooty is < 3 hours from Cbe.

No driving at night... most probably we'll start around 7 am... we should be comfortable as long as the travel time doesn't exceed 7 hrs or so... too many kids and it'll be hard to keep them engaged for more than that...

Ooty...too many NYs at ooty already... Also, I don't prefer hills coz of travel sickess...But if nothing works out, we'll be to Ooty again...

dev,
athirampaLLi / vAzhachchAl, if you have not been before, are must-visit places. Each place has a beautiful aruvi. (The former is famous for punnagai mannan and the later is relatively less crowded and breath-taking).

Both places can be reached with little diversion from the Cbe-Kochi highway at Chalakkudy.

If you're adventurous, silent valley near Palakkad is another fantastic spot. Don't visit there on a rainy day as leeches abound that suck blood.

Even I heard about this 'issue' regarding ISha Foundation, but I find it hard to believe. I still Regard Sadguru as the most Rational and Logical Guru in the current era! His Explanation about everything through sheer rational narration is truly phenomenal, I don’t find this with any other enlightened guru's !
