[COLOR="#000080"][I]When I heard this song the first time, I hardly knew a single world in Tamil. There were several words in this song that were common in other languages that I was well versed in, but the words did not sound right in this song! The second time that I heard this was several years later when I was attending studies in Tamilnadu; even then it did not sound right. For example, I did not know who "appar" was, and/or what "saareeram" and "karaharapriya" were... Sivaji Ganesan was not one of my favorite actors, and TMS was not one of my favorite singers.
As time passed, my exposure to and interest in Tamil language and music grew by leaps and bounds. I became a fan of Kannadasan's lyrics and MSV's music. Gradually, the song that I am talking about became one of my favorites too.
This is arguably one of the earliest attempts in India at fusion music. And what a fusion it is! MSV at his musical best, TMS at his singing best (in spite of his English pronunciation), and Sivaji at his acting best! I am not sure who wrote the lyrics.
