Just read 'neighboring' thread and im really concerned about the houch-pouch scenario, since 3 movies of KH will release one by one.
was that movie really a flop?
can a RK movie will have empty seats in 2nd day itself?
had some person with vested interest sabotaged its running?
what really went wrong with distribution business?
is this a healthy tradition which amounts to blackmailing a star and team?
one final question..what should KH do to avoid this mess before releasing his movies in pipeline?
For last 2 points -how can blackmailing a star is healthy tradition??
And KH cant be blackmailed easily ,he is very dangerous person to tackle with(remember VR issue how he tacked it) because he will be cunning if the situation demanded to escape from person who blackmailed him..
To avoid the mess KH movies must release with genuine price to distributors and in required number of theaters..KH knows his product well and accordingly the price has to be quoted and distributed/released in that number of theaters...
Kamalhaasan(or any actor) should not think about 100C,200C or record 1st day,week-end,overall collections before releasing..all they must think is profit to everyone Producer/Distributor/Exhibitors.. If everyone gets the profit then thats the real BO success..
From 3 movies i can surely say papanasam to be real BO success..
twitter is full of KH references in I. can someone recall them here pl.
didnt know virumandi is this much hit

UV- from what little i know - tamil films success rate is decided by their performance in the madurai-tirunelveli-palayamkottai-saathhoor-virudhunagar-theni-ramanathapuram areas - somehow a movie that does well in those areas will be doing well in Chennai-chenglepet areas as well - but not vice-versa ! (ex: ithayathai thirudaathey did super well in chennai but not as much in the madurai etc areas).
both Kamal and Rajini films have a big market deep south - I remember watching Aboorva sago second or third day in tirunelveli - houseful for a 11:30 AM show on a saturday. likewise Rajathi raja, and other Rajini films that did very well in that area were declared hits elsewhere.
Virumandi was huge in madurai etc areas - therefore its not surprising it had a successful run in chennai as well
I don't know whether this has already been shared here. In last week's Kumudam [that came as a Ajith Special] where he regularly fields questions from VIPs, there is a querry from Ramesh Khanna asking about the latest status on all the three films because after a long time he is doing three films at the same time, Kamal had answered like this.
VR 2 - Shooting over last year. CG works have started.
Papanaasam - Shooting over. Post Production is going to start.
UV - Post Production is over and film is getting ready for release.
Then he adds a tongue in cheek comment saying that
"எனது அடுத்த படத்திற்கான ஆரம்பக் கட்ட வேலைகள் நடந்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. பிப்ரவரி இறுதியில் படப்பிடிப்பு துவங்கும்".
