    Kannada film music

You have selected one more golden pick from the treasure. Beautiful song sung by P Sushila with touching lyric ‘pUjisida A daiva nannalli olidihudamma’ (RN Jayagopal), music-GKV.

This song is from the film ‘Naguva hUvu’ means ‘smiling flower’ and not ‘nAgara hAvu’ means (poisonous) ‘reptile’.
    VKA pointed out correctly.

The film naguva hUvu had R N Sudarshan and Shailashri in the cast and was a b/w film released during 1970.
Shri Sudarshan had voiced one song.

‘irabeku irabeku ariyada kandana taraha’(RN Sudarshan)
‘onde ondu hUvu, nanna hUdOTadalli’ (PBS)

The lyric ‘gulabi O gulabi’ follows:

    citra: naguva hUvu (1970)
    gAyana: pi sushIla
    saMgIta: ji ke veMkaTEsh
    sAhitya: Ar en jayagOpAl

    gulAbi O gulAbi
maMju hani ninnalli bevaru hani nannalli
    EkO nI balleyA.. balleyA.. /gulAbi/

    raviya kiraNa sOki araLide nInu
    iniyana kai sOki nAcide nAnu..
    pUjege nInu sEvege nAnu
muDipu namma I jIvana jIvana /gulAbi/

    pUjisidA A daiva
    nannalli olidihudamma..
    hosa jagadA bAgilanu
    kaNNediru teredihudamma
    idanu naMbalo kanasu ennalo
    mareyalAre nA I dina I dina /gulAbi/

    kannada film music

Meaning of the song ‘gulAbi O gulAbi’

    GulAbi = rose flower

    Rose hello rose
Dewdrops with you sweat-drops with me
Why is it? Do you know? (balleyA)

By the touch of sunrays you blossom
By the touch of lover’s hand I got shyness
You are for worship I am for service
    Our life (jIvana) is dedicated

    The god (I) adore
    Fascinated in myself
    Door of the new world
    Opened in front of eyes
Shall I believe shall I say dream
I can’t forget this day this day

Great job by Rajesh and Sudharshan

I don't know how I missed this thread so far... I have heard a few songs that you have mentioned here...

I have started listening to Kannada fm only recently... Some songs I like are, songs from America America (Nooru jenmaku, yava mohana and Vanalli hodu megha) and Nagamandala!
The moment will arrive when you are comfortable with who you are, and what you are--when you don't feel the need to apologize for anything or to deny anything. To be comfortable in your own skin is the beginning of strength.

    Thanks Anoushka,

Both the films are directed well known directors.
The film America America - by Nagathihalli Chandrashekar
    and Nagamandala - by T S Nagabharana

Sudharshan: I've seen both the movies and I like both of them. Nagamandala seems to be like Pahlei, only that the girl doesn't know that the Prakash raj who is gentle to her is not her husband!

And I've seen America America a few times now, actuallly that is the first kannada movie I had seen after I learnt a bit of kannada, another movie that I like is Beladingala Bale.

    Re: Kannada film music

    hi Rajesh,
This is a good topic you have started. I am looking for another song from the same movie, "Amarashilpi Jakanacahri"...

The song is "Surasundaraanga krishna.. ne baroo..." sung by P.Susheela and picturised on Sarojadevi and... Ramadevi as the dance teacher. P.Susheela's voice rightly matched to Sarojadevi in this movie.

This song is rarely heard so wanted to check whether i can get online.

    thanks & regards,
    Arun

this would be the place to bring in some gems from that period.

That was a period where good directors like S.R.Puttanna, B.R.Bandhulu
actors like kalyan kumar, udayakumar , rajkumar and actresses like
kalpana, aarthi, jayanthi, sarojadevi gave good performances. Lyricists like sadashiviah, prabhakara sastry, ku.ra.see,vijayanarasimha gave good lyrics.

Let us recollect that era with some memorable songs of that period.

    To Start with

    "Cheluvantha chennigane"
    Movie: Amarashilpi jakkanachari
    Music: S.Rajeswararao
    Lyrics: Sadashiviah
    Singer: P.Suseela

film had Kalyankumar & B.Sarojadevi in lead

this is a great song by S.Rajeswararao
In telugu the film was amara shipli jakkanna
and the equivalent song is Andhala bomalotho aatadava

coming to this kannada song, it's a dance sequence song sung beautifully by PS. see how she sings kannada too effortlessly

    listen and enjoy

Re: This week's Kannada Pick - Viraha Nooru Nooru by P.Susee

    hi Rajesh,
    Small correction,
This had Jayanthi, Aarthi, Chandrashekar and Ranga in the lead. There was none by name Harinath in this movie.

It was very sad that actor Ranga, who played the husband of Jayanthi in this movie died after this movie in an accident, who could not be there to enjoy the success of the movie. Ranga has acted in many old movies.

Chandrashekar who played the Tomboy role, now based in US, recently produced a movie "Poorvaapara" which was shot in US having Geetha, Naveen Mayur and Lakshmi Gopalswamy.

    thanks & regards,
    Arun

    Movie:Edakallu Guddada Mele
    Music: M.Ranga Rao
    Lyrics: Vijayanarasimha

Edakallu guddada mele had Jayanthi and Harinath in lead.

This is a beautiful song which brings out the feelings of a woman.
Picturisation is so beautiful. a breezy evening. Jayanthi is in the swing(jula) enjoying the mood.

M.Ranga rao known for his classic tunes proves his talent in this while nice lyrics by Vijayanarasimha and beautiful rendition by P.susheela makes this song a class.
