so she bent and picked up a paper napkin from the roll, "oh whats that, seems like a note!" her mind was contemplating

The note she picked up was torn, crumpled and illegible, smeared with lipstick, powder and perfume; probably the impact of the accident had crushed her handbag. However on a fragment of paper she could barely make out the letters 'JE' - Jeff? or Jed? or..?
