MAKKAL THILAGAM MGR !!!

Alrighty, we DO AGREE that there is no greatness in MGR's songs, without the work of Kannadaasan - MSV and all the other legends !!! BUT, we also have to agree that the same combo has made songs for Sivaji, Gemini, Muthuraman, Jai Shankar, etc etc ... Are all their songs being talked abt so highly ..... NOOOOOOOOOOO !!!

Why, because MGR's songs have the MGR brand name !!! And that makes them special !!! Thanks to Kannadaasan and MSV !!

When TMS was asked about this : He commented something similar to this:

"Yes.. A lyricst like Kannadaasan gives the best. A person like MSV gives his best when it comes to music. I try to give my best while singing the lines. But ultimately it is the character that is going to give the feel to the audience of that song.. Had it not been someone like MGR, it wouldn't have had that impact"

Come on friends.. Bay is humble enough to accept your points though it is not the truth !
But the reality is different !
No one would have liked the song

"NAAN AANAI ITTAAL, ATHU NADANTHU VITTAAL,
INGU AEZHAIGAL VETHANAI PADA MATTAAR"
if it was not MAKKAL THILAGAM !

Audience should feel the song rather than enjoying it ! That is why MGR's philosophical songs were received well by poor like those who pull ricksaws, bullock carts, cobblers etc !

MSV said that initally the lyrics were like

"NAAN ARASANENDRAAL ..........ATHU NADANTHU VITTAAL"

Just tell us WHO WOULD HAVE DONE JUSTICE TO THESE LINES IF IT HAD NOT BEEN MGR

Replace any actor in the place of MGR ! We will be entertained much more than yesteryear comedies !

"Never say that MGR movies ran only for songs, picturisation. There are plenty of movies which became hits just for his appearance irrespective of the picturisation, lyrics etc"


P.S: If being a MGR fan, makes me a kid, then I am happy to be a kid

Thanks for that awesome post Selva !! I'm AMAZED to see what has been goin on in the last week or so in all these arguments between MGR - Sivaji at this DAY and AGE and especially from MATURE ppl .... I just CANT !!

I don't see a reason why we can't have a Rajini vs Kamal thread now !! There is no scope for ANYBODY in this hub to advice on our fights based on actors anymore !! And I'm really sorry to say this !!

Getting back to MGR, I really liked the part where yo've mentioned how legends like TMS, Kannadaasan, and MSV have themselves talked abt why MGR's songs are sooo SPECIAL !! Bring it on man !!
