IR and motherland pictures
Topic started by Jaiganesh (@ 203.101.103.2) on Thu Dec 23 01:57:34 EST 2004.
Yesterday there was an interview of director Manoj Kumar in KTV (he directed prakashraj starrer gurupaarvai). He mentioned that for his first movie'Mannukkul Vairam' starring Sivaji, produced by Motherland Pictures, the music director was Devendran. He also went on to say that it was ML pictures first movie with another music director other than IR. What was the reason for the split? Let us guess/discuss..

I think the first MP movie without IR was the Nadhiya starrer which had `panneeril nanaindha pookkaL mella chirikka'...(I think the name of the film is `uyirE unakkAga', is it correct?)
It had Lakshmikanth-Pyarelal as MDs. Why Kovai Thambi chose to do that film without IR? AndavanukkE veLichcham...I'm not sure whether idhayakkOil came before or after that. For every other movie which was prior to U.U., as listed below, IR's contribution was phenomenal:
-payaNangaL mudivadhillai
-iLamaikkAlangaL
-nAn pAdum pAdal
-unnai nAn sandhithEn
-udhayageetham
-idhayakkOil

I remember watching Udhaya geedham in Venus theatres perambur. I was a kid then (even now -) and only two things kept me engaged in the movie.
1. IR's songs (there is a mamudha rasa song 'maane thene kattipudi' that will give today's manmadha rasa a run for its money) &
2. Sendhil - goundamani comedy track. That was the first time I was seeing a whole theatre laughing out loud and rolling on the floor.
Amazing movie watching experience that!
Thanks,
Jaiganesh
