RR: you haven't locked the other thread, I ended up posting there
The moment will arrive when you are comfortable with who you are, and what you are--when you don't feel the need to apologize for anything or to deny anything. To be comfortable in your own skin is the beginning of strength.

My mom recalls that there were only 7 people in the theatre , including herself and my dad , on the day KOT was released . The film was released in Liberty theatre kodambakkam and ran for exactly one week. Till today she wonders why the film was not accepted in its first run(Looks like the reruns did good business).
I watched this film on DD and was just moved by the story and the powerful performances by the ensemble of cast.
The film also had some mesmeresing songs tuned by GR. What i liked more was the usage of TL's voice. He was usually given fun songs like 'kalyaana samayal sadham' . But in KOT he sang some soulful songs written by kavichakravarthy subramaniar bharathy.
Todays song always brings tears to my eyes. The heartful rendition and the meaningful lyrics are just unbeatable.

I wish you had posted this tearful song a week after – on 15th August ! It would have been more appropriate !
VOC’s son himself acknowledged that he could see his Father in Nadigar thilagam !
Such was the precise portrayal of the character which richly deserved a national award
This song appears when VOC operates one Chekku machine inside the prison upon getting to rigorous imprisonment
The primitive Chekku machine which was used to extract oil was operated with immense pain by VOC in Ottapidaram prison & they have kept this machine as a memorial now
When the song touches the words – MELORGAL VENSIRAYIL VEENZDHU KIDAPADHUM…NOOLORGAL SEKKADIYIL NOVADHUVUM KAANGILAYO…. The camera shows the close up shots of Nadigar thilagam writhing in pain as he operates the equipment ……
Truly an unforgettable song ……………..
Indeed , this movie has splendid songs by GR :
1. Velli panimalayin meedhulaavuvom – Tiruchy Loganathan
2. Katru veliyidai kannama – PBS & PS – gem of a melody
3. Vande matharam enbom – Seergazi
4. Odi vilayadu pappa - Seergazi
5. Endru thaniyum indha sudhanthira dhagam – Thiruchy Loganathan
6. Nenjil uram indri – Seergazi
This movie is a GR classic
Despite the then government having given tax exemption, this was a failure . I think B.R.Pandhulu was the producer
S.V.Subbaiah got name & fame by splendid portrayal of Barathiyar
Atleast for this movie Shivaji should have been given an award
