The films of Fred Zinnemann
Guys, I'd like your opinions on Zinnemann's films...
I've only watched one of his films - "The Day of the Jackal", based on the novel of the same name by Frederick Forsyth. The film may not seem to have much fast-paced action, but still creates a strong atmosphere of tension. The lead performances were really good - Edward Fox as a criminal, but a very intelligent one at that, and Michael Lonsdale as the brilliant detective pursuing him. I think this film, to some extent, may have inspired a few Tamil films, like "Maanagara Kaaval" (starring Vijayakanth).
There are many other films by Zinnemann that I'd like to watch - two films that have been widely acclaimed are "High Noon" and "From Here to Eternity"... Have any of you watched those films?
Your opinions?

Seen "High noon", worth the punt. Though a bit dated for Western, it's essential viewing for those interested in pre-Leone westerns.
I think I'd seen "the day of the jackal" some time back in Tv. But again, as with watching tv, I tend to switch channels, and I didn't actually absorb the atmosphere as much as you have.
