ANIL MUSIC REVIEW
Review by : Kaushik L.M
Starring: Anil Bharath, Ashrith Bhanu, Vineeth Shankar, Dibesh Dikkubai Vijay, Pradeepa, Dhanalakshmi
Direction: ARS
Music: S R Shankar
Production: A Sreenivasan
Looks like the movie ‘Anil’ is about school life and a realistic one at that, looking at the poster and the tag line. The screenplay, dialogues and direction for 'Anil' is by ARS who is debuting in Tamil cinema through this film. The music has been provided by S.R.Shankar who is another first-timer. An analysis of his work follows.
Anilu Anilu
ARS, Vineeth Shankar
This song introduces us to the movie’s title in no uncertain terms. The word ‘Anilu’ is repeated countless times and at varied paces. A cheeky and likeable number. A short interesting effort to kick-off the album. Can’t make much sense from the lyrics apart from the fact that a lot of women are referred to.
Ada Aadipadungada
Mukesh and chorus
The song starts off by calling out a lot of different men and of course the word ‘Anilu’ is a major part of the build up to the song. A cheerful, feel-good fast number that talks about living life happily as the name of the song indicates. There are some typical kuthu elements like heavy percussions.
Manasukkul Oru
NK Priyanka
A sweet romantic melody with the pretty naïve and raw voice of NK Priyanka, the lead singer. It moves along at a gentle pace without any ups or downs. The saxophone and violin instrumental interludes add some more charm to the song. The violin instrumentals prove the composer’s adeptness at classical music.
Dinam Dinam Unnai
Swetha Menon, Haricharan
Starts off in ‘Hindustani’ mode with the male singer singing ‘swaras’ in high pitch, accompanied by tabla. Then it becomes a typical romantic duet. Nothing special but, the song doesn’t hurt the eardrums as well. Has some decent singing from the mellifluous Swetha Menon. The small Hindustani touches are the highlight of the song.
Vanthavanum Sari Illai …
Pazhaniammal
A folksy number to end the album. This one will surely strike the right chord with the masses with its earthy flavor. The voice of the female lead singer gives the necessary spunk to this song.
A female rants about her ill-luck with the men in her life. There is also a message for the men, about the bad effects of drinking alcohol. The ‘nadaswaram’ interludes go with the mood of the song.
Verdict: A nice effort with good variety. There are a couple of melodies, a nice folk number and an offbeat number thrown in the mix. This composer will be noted with interest in the coming days. Hope he gets good projects in future...
