Now that Suriya is free from 'Maattrraan', which demanded huge work from him since it is about conjoined twins, the actor is ready to his commence his next.

As announced earlier, his immediate project will be 'Singam 2', a sequel to his earlier hit 'Singam'. Hari himself will wield the megaphone, with Anushka as the leading lady.

But there is one more heroine too, and she is the hot and happening Hansika Motwani. "Shooting for Singam 2 will commence soon and composing of songs have started already," sources close to the unit said.

Confirming this, music composer Devi Sri Prasad wrote on his microblogging page, "Today in composing for Singham-2 with director Hari sir and Lyricist Viveka sir..!"

He added: "Having fun in the studio composing for Singam 2. Suriya came and spent some time. We all had a great time!"

Anjali to do item number in Singham-2

A winning combination of talent, ability to dub in Tamil and the oomph factor is now taking Anjali to places. The prettly actress is slowly but steadily turning to be one of the hottest rising stars in Tamil cinema.

The girl who went all out to discover her glam side with a raunchy number in the hit Kalakalappu is now doing a kissing scene with Arya in Settai.

The Angadi Theru actor is now supposedly going to shake a leg with none other than Surya in Hari's Singam 2.

The buzz is that she has been paid a huge amount for the item song which Nayan and Sriya were unable to do due to date issues.

Hollywood villain for Suriya- http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/

Director Hari, Suriya, Anushka and Hansika have been shooting in Chennai and Tuticorin for the film for the last 30 days. Now, the team will be heading to South Africa (SA). Hari says, "The story travels from Tuticorin to South Africa. We are planning to shoot a very prominent fight sequence with a new villain in South Africa."

Prakash Raj played a significant villainous role in the prequel but Hari is currently looking for another bigger and better villain. Apparently, he is trying to rope in a Hollywood actor for the negative role. He says, "We are trying to get a renowned Hollywood actor for the film. It is not yet finalized. Once we get him on board, the film will proceed further in a brisk pace." He further adds, "Singam 2 is the continuation from Singam climax. There will not be much change in characterizations."

Hari adds, "The SA action scenes will be power-packed stunt scenes in the film. In Singam 2, Suriya will be more aggressive and energetic than the first one. So, SA will be ideal for a fiery action sequence."

Double whammy for Singam 2

Singam 2, which has Suriya, Anushka and Hansika playing the lead roles, is expected to be a laugh riot with both Santhanam and Vivekh (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Vivekh) playing the comic characters in the film. While Singam had Vivekh, the sequel has Santhanam to stir the masala for this out and out commercial flick.

Apparently the script (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/The-Script) has two different comedy tracks. Director Hari (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Director-Hari) says, "Vivekh's performance in Singam as Yettu Erimalai was a noticeable one. He is reprising the same role in the sequel as well. Santhanam's comedy track will also be one of the highlights in the film. These two comedians are unbeatable in their own styles. It's great to have both of them on board."

Director Hari praises Anjali

Director Hari is not only known for his masala entertainers and fast screenplay but also for his fast paced working style. Anjali was roped in to do a item song for Hari's Singam 2, which Nayanthara and Shriya Saran couldn't do due to date issues.

Anjali got noticed for her critically acclaimed performance in Kattradhu Tamizh and went on to do movies like Angadi Theru, Engeyum Eppodhum, Mankatha and Kalakalappu which won her a lot of appreciation.

The actress seems to have completed her work for Singam 2 a day earlier and supposed have received a lot of praise from the director. Hari is quite a task master and it takes a lot of good work to please the director.

Singam 2 is the sequel to the successful Singam and stars Hansika and Anushka opposite Suriya. Santhanam and Vivek are also part of this commercial action entertainer.

Singam 2 is not a sequel to Singam: Hari

Director Hari, whose full name is Hari Gopalakrishnan, has said that his forthcoming film Singam 2 starring Surya Sivakumar is not a sequel to his earlier blockbuster film Singam. Surprised? Well, according to the filmmaker it is an extension of the first instalment and not a sequel!
The second part is a continuation of the first with additional characters. In a statement, director Hari said, "I have retained all the characters from the first part and I have also added a few more actors in Singam 2, which makes it a continuation of the first part. Probably for the first time in Tamil cinema such a feat is attempted,"
The director claims that he had written the Singam 2 story even before its first instalment. The success of Singam made him to develop the complete script of Singam 2. "I had developed the story for the second part even before Singam was released. Following the success of Singam, I decided to work on Singam 2 and I have received lot of encouragement from my team," he said.
Singam 2 features Suriya Sivakumar, Anushka Shetty, Hansika Motwani, Vivek, Santhanam, Nassar, Vijay Kumar, Radha Ravi, Mukesh Rishi and Manorama.

A sequel is a published, broadcast, or recorded work that continues the story or develops the theme of an earlier one.
Something that takes place after or as a result of an earlier event.

The shoots of Hari’s Singam 2 have been completed and recently the last shot was canned in Thoothukudi and the unit marked the last shot by breaking a pumpkin, as traditional customs would have it.
Hari has completed shooting Singam 2 in typically quick time and he is gearing up for the music launch, which is scheduled for June 1.
There is plenty of star power in Singam 2 in the form of Suriya, Santhanam, Hansika, Anushka and Vivekh. Devi Sri Prasad is expected to come out with a racy score as always

Singam 2 story revealed

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/thumb/msid-20361401,width-300,resizemode-4/Suriya-Singam2.jpg

Suriya starrer Singam 2 (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Singam-2) is one the most awaited films of the year as the first part 'Singam' was a smash hit directed by Hari. The buzz is that the sequel will take off from where it was left in the first part, with the die-hard Doraisingam returning back to his hometown after avenging his pride. Smuggling and illegal arms will be the crux, and how the dutiful cop goes about kicking the baddies is what makes up the movie, which was revealed towards the end in 'Singam'

Singam 2 has Suriya (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Suriya), Hansika, Anushka, Vivek, Naseer and Santhanam with Devi Sri Prasad composing the music. The film shooting took place down south in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Karaikudi and South Africa. Danny Sapani, who played the role of an ambassador in the 2011 action flick Mercenaries is the baddie in Sinagm 2.

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan, who acted in the Bollywood remake of Hari's 'Singam', and Sudeep, who did the lead in the Kannada remake of the cop story, will release the audio of 'Singam 2' on June 2.

I'm ready for 'Singam 3': Suriya

Suriya Sivakumar, who is currently gearing up for the release of upcoming Tamil action-drama "Singam 2", doesn't rule out donning khaki for the third instalment of the film.

Suriya returns as a righteous young cop in "Singam 2", which is the sequel to Tamil blockbuster "Singam".

"I would love to do the third part of "Singam" provided my director has the patience and time to work again. The excitement with with which we have worked for this film has given me the confidence to work again if there is a third instalment in the offing," Suriya told reporters here.

He was speaking at the audio launch of "Singam 2", which is directed by Hari Gopalakrishnan, who had helmed the first part.

"We spent nearly eight months on this project and, therefore, time becomes crucial if we are planning to collaborate for the next part. Director Hari is already committed to his next project, so am I. If time permits, we may return soon," he added.

The film also features Anushka Shetty, Hansika Motwani, Nassar, Vijayakumar, Santhanam, Vivek and Anjali, among others, in important roles.

Produced by Prince Pictures, the film has music by Devi Sri Prasad. "Singam 2" is scheduled to release June 14.

The two teasers of Singam 2 which have been released till now, have been a big topic of discussion among fans. Everyone has a strong opinion about the teasers and discussion forums have been flooded with all kinds of feedback for these teasers.

One of Suriya's former co-stars. Madhavan, is a big fan of the teasers though and has termed them as 'fantastic'. He is confident that the movie is another blockbuster in the making.

Suriya and Maddy did Aaytha Ezhuthu together and were also involved in many Pepsi ads together.http://behindwoods.com/tamil-movies-cinema-news-10/suriyas-singam-2-teasers-get-a-big-celeb-fan--suriya-singam-2-teasers-06-06-13.html

I don't know why anyone would want to cast doubts on Maddy's statements. He is not that kind of person!
He twitted this article too:

Maddy's Pat for Singam-2

The actor doesn't jump into any appreciations at an ease. Of course, his choice of films and characters have been so challenging that the actor cannot be impressed. But, he has come up showering abundant praise onf Singam 2 teaser that is roaring vigorously over online portals.

The actor has conveyed this message on his micro-blogging page singing praises of this teaser for creating a big impact. It is worth mentioning Suriya and Maddy share a good rapport from the time they shared screen space together in Manirathnam's Aayutha Ezhuthu and PEPSI commercial ad that featured Bollywood actress Preity Zinta as well.http://www.top10cinema.com/article/21003/maddys-pat-for-singam-2

Frankly, I never paid attention to it, I mean how the punch dialogues looked with French Subtitles [Sivaji "Singam" Dialogue was good when translated too].
But I did note "(...)" whenever certain things or shoutings could not be translated. Plus some movies dont bother to translate the songs.

"french subtitle padichu padam pakuravungaluku comedy padam mari la irukum" : Oh Yeah ! Sometimes they do not follow it eventhough they understand it. The cultural gap is enorme, but trust me they love Tamil films. Each film I watch at cinema, there would be considerable number of them.

Yes. I don't want to take over Singham 2 thread with "French-Like-Tamil-cinema", but just to sumerise :

If the movie is released in Gaumont or Pathé, you have favorable number of audiences. The recent films include Matraan and Billa 2. (Not to forget Sivaji and Endhiran). Viswaroopam missed a huge chance, but its not its fault [Initial screening @ Grand REX ... would have been an absolute WOW]. Dasa was enjoyed, but too much characters that they cannot relate to. I know and have recomended people to get DVD or Blu ray copies and their favorites are Muthu, Khaka Khaka, Pitha Magan, etc.

Note : Shivaji Ganesan IS recognised as "Chevalier" [Knight] here.

Plus, in a European (national) TV Channel, they telecast Rajini & SRK movies. Spl. Mention : Asal shooting was reported in the National News.

So ofcoarse, we have a great scope here, and thats why I keep on telling to fine tune our production, redifine certain appeal, present only what the story needs, cover much of our culture (realism or formalism does not matter) and go global with max prints atleast in Europe where cinema still enjoys the state as a work of Art.

Movie picks up around 20 mins before interval, where surya takes incharge again. Everything fizzles within 30 minutes post interval. It is evident that Hari hasn't got any interesting plots in the 2nd half like he had in singam. Poorly executed climax doesn't help either. Singam was much much better than this.
Surprised to see very low turnout at AGS villivakkam, for 9.30 am show not even 25% full.

Watch it once for Santhanam and Surya. Just finished seeing Singam 2 at Forum Value Mall, Bangalore.
Hansika looks puffy. Anushka looks infinitely more graceful.
You have to wait through some contrived situations involving Hansika before the movie gains intensity and pace with Surya taking charge of the city over a communal violence.
Many of the scenes involving Santhanam are funny and evoke laughter.
The villain's are very weak. One of them just keeps grunting like an ape.
The cop Surya continues where he left it in Singam. Rapid fire orders, thinking fast, figuring everything out and staying a step ahead of the 3 villains.
The director uses the same techniques that worked in the first movie. Fast camera, zooming in to a city, location, Surya jumping and bashing people around with that open handed slap, emotion of the cop's father and mother. But without a strong bad man, the intensity that Surya brings is wasted.
The film eventually drags to a whimpering end. Singam was an entertainer. The sequel is quite ordinary.
Watch it for Surya and Santhanam.

One time watchable flick...

Positives

Surya is terrific. His body language, dialogue delivery, fitness as a police officer is extraordinary. His screen presence is the biggest positive for the movie.

Interval block is surely a kick ass stuff.

Santhanam has done a decent job. No big jokes but still his comedies evoke small laughs regularly

Some mass scenes has really come out well

Hari's fact paced screenplay

Negatives

As usual Hari has done a fast paced screenplay but what is missing is the lack of ideas. In saamy, singam-1 etc., villan will plan big and hero will outsmart villan with a much intelligent plan. Butt here we are not able to see any new ideas. Hari largely depends on only a single idea "Mobile phone", Hero simply traces all the villans with their mobile phone numbers.

Weak Climax

Dummy villans

Hansika portion could have been better

Music

Overdose of stunts and dialogues

Overall, Surely a time pass but would not match singam 1

The subtitles were not bad atall. Just that it did not hold the exact impact that the VO intended to bring. They did manage to roll the subtitles for milliseconds even though the dialogue delivery was fast going hand in hand with the editing. They have cleverly put 2 lines of subtitles in most of the parts to keep the continuity.

Reasonable crowd at the cinema hall.

is ther tamilian only..or french people also ?

It was released in CGR, if my eyes did not trick me, only french was the one who accompanied me.
A news to Rajendran : As soon as he came on screen she (my friend) went nuts as she recognized him from Naan Kadavul ... LoL
And she adores Surya (sometimes truth is predictable !)

But we cannot dismiss the audience rate, as I had mentioned before the showtime is not so compatible. Maybe later shows would have some audience, I watched it @16h30 yesterday.

Maatran had a good french audience though, released at Gaumont.

Hari’s Singam was about an honest small town police officer who is an embodiment of all virtues and values. He loved his Khaki more than anything else. And he operated within the indigenous shores to nab criminals and weeded out unwanted elements of society and to a large extent he remained a local domicile. In Hari’s Singam 2, the honest cop expands his horizons to bring peace to his place.

From the word go, Singam 2 clearly establishes that it’s fulcrum is only action and the quantity of romance, sentiment and comedy that occupied equal proportion in Singam is less here. The film opens up with an item number of Anjali with a vigilant Suriya who also keeps her company in waltz but conveys to the audience that he is a man on a different mission.

Director Hari adheres to all his usual ingredients from music to method of action scenes to the cavalcade of four wheelers to the structuring of sequences. He is known to string the various elements of commercial cinema viz. romance, action, sentiment and music in an entertaining fashion and he does the same in Singam 2 too with a racier screenplay that gives a lot of scope for action.

Suriya shoulders the film big time. The sincerity and dedication of this artist is something that needs to be lauded. Suriya with his dialogue delivery, eye expressions, body language and live energy has redefined screen presence! What a show! The biggest challenge of doing an action packed ‘mass’ role is not to over do it, as its a very delicate thin line to cross. Suriya in Singam 2 pulls it off with consummate ease.

The actor brings in a majestic and a respectable color to the police attire and his dexterity over action sequences is remarkable. Dialogues like “appa amma solra pechai kekkaama vera yaar pechai keppanga” when mouthed by Suriya brings out the earnestness of the statement. The efforts the actor has put in to his dancing is also visible with the ‘Singam dance’.

The rain fight in front of Suriya’s house, revved up by DSP’s RR, Suriya taking charge as Deputy Superintendent of Police, Thoothukudi and Suriya making the first arrest of Danny are all power packed sequences.

Hansika is effective and her role is meaningful and integral to the plot. Anushka is charming and has screen space in the second half. Santhanam is an enjoyable addition to Singam 2 and his sequences livens up the proceedings be it in the Arabian Kudirai episode, the Viswaroopam Kamal sequence or the Kadhal Vandhale scene. He makes us ask for more of him in the film.

There is a long list of ensemble in Singam 2. Mukesh Hari and Rahman as the key antagonists supported by Naan Kadavul Rajendran deliver neatly. Danny Sapani, the London based artist as the international drug dealer is fearsome initially but tapers down towards the end. Sankarabaranam Vishwanath also makes a cameo.

Music director Devi Sri Prasad soothes the audience with a melodious ‘Puriyavillai’ number. Rest of the tracks sound like an extension of the earlier enterprise. Kannukkule number suffers from wrong placement. Cinematographer Priyan neatly captures the Tuticorin and the South African soils and the car chase sequence in Durban has been done well. V.T Vijayan and Jay, the editor duo have worked in tandem with Hari to keep the proceedings pacy.

The predictable nature of the plot and the climax could well be the downers of this otherwise well packed action entertainer.

To sum it all, with Hari’s racy screenplay and Suriya’s terrific screen personality, Singam 2 strikes big time. Mass masala guaranteed !

Verdict: Watch it for Suriya. Screen presence redefined !

Singham II (Tamil : 2013 : 2h45m)

written & Directed by Hari
Cinematography Priyan
Edited by V. T. Vijayan

Banner Prince Pictures

Starring : Suriya, Anushka Shetty, Rahaman, Hansika Motwani, Vivek, Santhanam, Singham I sentiment crew, Police cars & jeeps, interstate police, Durbin police & a "non-indian" villan Danny

Synopsis : Singam is about Doraisingam (now you know where the title came from), a valiant police officer. He comes from a remote village where everyone is his relative and loves him universally. An episode of clash between him and a gangster gains him much recognition in the Police force at the same time gets him a place in the good books of administrative chiefs permanently. In the end of Part 1, Singam saves a high profile victim, thus stamping his loyalty towards his profession.

Singam II starts right where the Singam 1 ended. Higher officials appoint Singam on a secret mission to track down drugs and Arms dealing in the coastal area. He picks up a post as the NCC Master (no, not like in the Kung-fu movies, but like in Ramana movie) and gives long preaching lectures to the students at the same time bashing anyone creating hindrances. A communal riot, brings Singam back on job, as he is the only one who can sustain the commotion. Two noted figures come under his radar, who are responsible for creating "caste" related clashes. Upon investigation, Singham finds that their hands not only reach national level, but stretches internationally too, thus rounding up the mission he was assigned to. Singham hatches plans to take each one in his custody, creating the perfect path to catch their international associate and end his operation. On the way he has to pass all sorts of hurdles created by politicians, his colleagues as well as local goons. How he overcomes these hic-ups at the same time sustain his personnel life where his marriage is on cards is narrated with more than enough roars.

I suppose most of you would remember your PT or Physics master - they are the 2 who are menacing in you school days. The physics master enters the class and the catches all your attention by announcing that he is going to pick one and ask a question at the end of the class. Now we are sure to pay attention. Hari does the same. He picks our attention even though we are not interested. He advances quickly and strictly as though there is a Q&A session at the end, and you would not be allowed to leave the cinema hall if you answer it wrong. Just to prove a point that its a sequel, he brings in the crew for a scene or two, but they are nowhere related to story. The story is straight forward, but the motive is what is that is confusing. Hari has placed different mechanisms in forwarding his story by punctually putting chases, dialogues, action scenes - making the movie move around swiftly just like how you are in an exhibition with variety of stalls installed, but often come out without buying anything. The groundwork that Hari has done should be appreciated. His team of assistants and associates have done a remarkable job of finding out all the necessary elements in an operation and Hari has done a good job in executing them through his script.

In my recent visit to India, just like the commerce here, I noted several products sold as 20% more for the same price. Surya performance is just that. Add 20% more to his earlier performance and that’s what you see in the sequel. He just blasts his way throughout the film and its kind of cool. The way he walks around, open-eyed dialogue delivery, jumps and running tends you to imagine a real lion in police uniform. In that there is no compromise or complain. He has done some solo dance steps too, just that the music does not go well with it. Vivek as usual tries to be funny and Santhanam comedy track is like "Avatar" characters doing the remake of "Gone with the wind". But either of them does not know the existence of the other in the film ! Anuska is note worthy in a song where she wears a red top and blue jean. Hansika reminds the muffins in McDonald. Rahman and other villains are unbelievable.

Singham calls the task of getting the criminals as Operation D. "D" as an english alphabet is good, but when announcing it to the other members sounds a bit tamil - "Namba ippo nadatha porathu Operation DI". Instead of "D" they should have kept as "T" (for Tarzan) as thats exactly what the main villain has done during dubbing.

There are several aerial shots which have come out really well. The runtime is about 160 minutes, but in reality, its anywhere during the time taken for the thunder to roar after the lightening. Even though editing did give a helping hand, the music paralyses the entire film (don't forget your ear-buds). Just like the snake in the 99th square of a “snake & ladder” indoor board game, the climax is positioned there leading us straight down to the exit.

Comaparison : Singam I had things on check. The graph or flow of the movie was smooth. The rise of Singam was showcased gradually, the climax rendering the signature for a character which is sure to stay. Singam II is exactly opposite. There is no graph as such but jumps straight to the point just to make a point. Rolling alone with Surya does not work either, even though all the Singam Dance, roars, slaps and jumps are note worthy and ignite the screen quite many many times. But still it gives a largely fair affair, thanks to Hari not to keep the movie as how it looked in the teasers, even though there are overdose of expired scenes.

Singham II : Lethal Weapon turning into a kitchen knife.

NB : Singham III, prediction : We are going to see Singam running around with his pregnant wife !

- Movie picks up around 20 mins before interval, where surya takes incharge again.
- Everything fizzles within 30 minutes post interval.

- Surya is terrific. His body language, dialogue delivery, fitness as a police officer is extraordinary. His screen presence is the biggest positive for the movie.
- Hari's fact paced screenplay
- Hari largely depends on only a single idea "Mobile phone", Hero simply traces all the villans with their mobile phone numbers.
- Dummy villans
- Overdose of stunts and dialogues

- the movie gains intensity and pace with Surya taking charge of the city over a communal violence.
- The villain's are very weak. One of them just keeps grunting like an ape.
- Rapid fire orders, thinking fast, figuring everything out and staying a step ahead of the 3 villains.
- Fast camera, zooming in to a city, location,
- But without a strong bad man, the intensity that Surya brings is wasted.
- Singam was an entertainer. The sequel is quite ordinary.

(what an energy)

Singam 2 - Shouting contest

Never in my life i seen the actors shout as much like in the movie. Hero shouts, heroines shouts, comedian shouts, villains shouts, and dsp music shouts loud, and director hari shouts: action, action, action. Another cop movie with lot of action and punchlines as we seen in Singam. You can watch it for Suriya, Santhanams comedy or the action sequences.

My concerns:

- Its noteworthy the heroins have less scope in the movie than comedians.

- Paavam Anusha. She even had more screen time in Alex Pandian.

- The hero walks in middle of an anthem but kicks rowdies for disturbing the national anthem.

- Vivek has less to do, but i liked his punch about DSP.

- DSP did ok in BGM, but the songs were duds. Director Hari should opt for a new MD for his next movie

- The way the villain holds his gun in his introscene, looks amateurish. For an international criminal thats just not good.

Nevertheless its a one man show, and the movie def wont be a flop as some "wellwishers" predicted which makes me happy. Signed The masalamovie fan!

It's a laugh riot. It's as if Hari decided to make a parody of the prequel. Santhanam was beyond irritating. Vivek sadly wasn't used. Anushka and Hansika were wasted. BGM was loud, music sucked big time. Only one good factor in the movie is Surya. He still can't emote very well but his screen presence was the only thing that was bearable in the 3 hour long snoozefest. Punch in English. Punch in Tamil. Punch. Punch. Punch. Surya has picked up what Vj has left behind him. Hope he realizes it before he delivers a sura or billa 2.

In Singam 2, Suriya as Duraisingam spends most of his time running and chasing baddies. This explains why he is trim with a six pack and beefed up biceps, while the rest of the police department is not physically fit. The reason Suriya is running when he could chase them in his car is because he is in pursuit of international villain Danny, who is the kingpin of a big drug cartel. This is in brief what we get to see in the highly anticipated sequel, which is not even half as good as its prequel.

For those, who had watched Singam and walked into cinemas hoping to be entertained, Singam 2 comes as a blow in the face. It's exactly what you don't want to see in a sequel, especially one which follows a highly entertaining and racy prequel.

The film opens with a quick recap of Singam, and now Duraisingam, who has resigned from his job, is working as a NCC leader in a private school in Tuticorin, where he moonlights as an undercover cop to bust illegal activities happening on the coast. Further investigation reveals that under the control of Danny, drugs are being imported into the town and those helping him in this business are Thangaraj, Bhai and Sagayam. It is with the help of the trio that Danny has been importing drugs worth crores of rupees.

How does Duraisingam bring down the empire of Danny, and seal all his illegal activities that he has been doing for years forms the rest of the story.
If you can sit through the 165-minute-long film watching one man running all through Tuticorin in the name of justice and in between grooving to five songs, then you might like Singam 2. However, if you're expecting a racy, edge-of-the-seat cop flick, this is not your film.

There is plenty of action, but it just gets too much after a point of time. Why would a policeman not shoot at baddies who are ready to ambush his family and instead fight? This is exactly why the film runs for nearly three hours when it could've been easily reduced by a good half an hour.

Singam 2 is definitely bigger, but it never gets better in the process of entertaining its viewers. It has a storyline that could keep you hooked but what doesn't work in the favour of the film is the presence of too many characters and a weak screenplay. The initial premise of the film doesn't get converted into a story worth lauding.
Even though Suriya shines in his role, there is hardly any noticeable contribution from the rest of the cast. In fact, most characters hardly have any purpose. One such role is that of the chief minister (CM), played by veteran director K. Vishwanath. Hari directs Singam 2 without a soul. He desperately tries to make the sequel a better film than its prequel, but eventually fails in the process. Devi Sri Prasad's music is passe. The background score misses energy.

Singam-2 review- tamilrockers

Singam 2 - Shouting contest

2 point :

one point : Hansika's character is the feather on the hawk. Its quite tender, and she had done a resonable try to look as soft as possible. Her character takes a darker side during the tennis court scene, wonder why this volcanic change in her characterisation ? Refering her to "shouting" is a bit heavy. Anything between yelling and screaming is fine with me. Anyway between all the "shouts", you agree with me that her voice was softer ... LoL

two point : I do not think Surya walked in the middle of the Anthem. You have been tricked by the "chak chak chak" scene movements. Surya actually waits and they show 3 or 4 progressive parts of the Anthem playing, and suddenly the Lion is on its prey *roar* ofcoarse after the last Jai Hey, I suppose.

The sequel with Suriya, Anushka, Hansika and Santhanam in prominent roles picks up from where Singam ended. Suriya plays the tough cop yet again carrying the film on his shoulders almost entirely and reaching the finishing line.

Trade Talk
After probably Vishwaroopam, the movie received overwhelmingly grand opening with full shows reported in all the release centers. After a somewhat slow start initially on Friday, the movie picked up in full force and the weekend was jam packed everywhere.

Public Talk
The consensus seems to be that Suriya cements his position as a mass hero with Singam 2 and the angry cop image is tailor made for him.

'Yamudu 2' strikes gold for Suriya in Andhra Pradesh

Chennai, Jul 8 (IANS): The Tamil version of Suriya Sivakumar-starrer "Singam 2" has been declared a hit, while its Telugu dubbed version titled "Yamudu 2" has registered the highest opening for a movie featuring the actor in Andhra Pradesh.
Both versions of the film released worldwide July 5.
While "Singam 2" raked in Rs.9.25 crore on its opening day in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka, the Telugu dubbed version "Yamudu 2" collected Rs.3.75 crore in Andhra Pradesh in the opening weekend.
"This is the best ever opening for a Suriya film in Andhra Pradesh, especially because after all his recent dubbed films in Telugu turned out to be duds," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.
Despite criticism for being over-commercial and extremely lengthy, "Yamudu 2" managed to attract audiences.
Reportedly made on a budget of Rs.45 crore, "Yamudu 2" directed by Hari Gopalakrishnan, is the sequel to "Yamudu". It also features Hansika Motwani and Anushka Shetty.

Surya looks rushed and desperate to prove to everyone that Singam 2 is a hit and that everyone have accepted him as a mass hero. The high billing and huge expectations are taking its toll on Surya and his utter desperation is evident.

What is D2 Entertainment? Is it another company floated by Surya & Co along with Studio Green??

Never in my life i seen the actors shout as much like in the movie. Hero shouts, heroines shouts, comedian shouts, villains shouts, and dsp music shouts loud, and director hari shouts: must be a "Medical Condition"

That's true for most mass heroes. Whether we liked it or not Singam was a huge hit and Singam 2 may well be on its way to being a huge success.
Surya is not desperate though but some people are, to prove Surya is nothing but a wannabe.

Everyone and I for sure liked the fact that Singam was a huge hit. No issues there at all. I don't know why you brought that here. Plus, Singam II might turn out to be a hit too....no concerns there too.

The question here i posted is about the desperation of Surya, which was evident to me in his 'Success' meet held yesterday:

http://www.sify.com/mobile/movies/singam-2-success-meet-held-news-tamil-nhiu6Xdegai.html

1. Arranging a success meet on Day 3 of a movie and gathering distributors/theatre owners to talk on 'behalf' of a movie that is supposedly a huge hit
2. How Hari had purposefully defied the movie of logic adhering to commercial requirements (while in the audio function, claiming that the movie has water-tight logic)
3. Surya's 'folded hand' gesture to thank everyone and mentioning about how Sivakumar wasproud of Surya after watching the movie and how Jothika has watched the movie 4 times so far, and so on and so forth.

Looked plain desperation to me.

I did not bring the box office success of Singam nor the possible success of Singam 2 into the fray at all.

Nanbarey, why pour oil into the flame. 3 days have past, still have not come out of the depression ... LoL

Hansika dead could be avoided.

Don't be suprised if I say Hari did a good job on killing that character. Why he did that embarks into another discussion that Singham 2 does not really merit (well, its just to show the crudeness of Singham for using her navity, but sadly did not come out well thanks to Singham's pathetic confession).

But appreciations are for the way he killed her. Just imagine :

After the menacing "face-turn" of Rahman in the prison, the scene cuts : Rain - running feet splashing the pool of water - Hansika turning to check the distance - chased by "White n white" costume claded sidekicks with Aruva - Hansika hiding and watching the knees of the chasers - Hansika manages to make a call from her water-proof sony cell phone to Singham - Singham jeep skids to a stop splashing the water - Singham gets down just to witness Hansika's throat slit - runs towards falling Hansika with one and only aim to catch here before falling - holding her "ever-smiling" dead body in his arms, he screams ... sorry roars - scene cuts - Singam enters the prison where Rahman is put - Singham kicks Rahman.

Do we still have the strength to watch this on screen (once again) on slow-mo !

Hari took some time rather years, but has mastered the art of telling voilence in a Ghadhian way. Look at it as Hitman would say "Slient Kill" rather than Danush 'Why this Kolaveri" ... LoL

Singam 2

If you thought that Soodhu Kavvum or TVSK is the best comedy of 2013, then Hari & Co are here to prove you wrong. Singam 2, from start to finish, is a perfect laugh riot for this season.

Surya, does justice to his role to perfection. Be it the scene where he lifts and throws a motorbike with one hand or the scene in which he is hit by a speeding Scorpio (which minutes before had broke a railway gate with ease) but still manages to return intact and hold on to the vehicle will prove how well he has improved as an actor. Way to go..

Hansika as a school going kid and Anushka as an ageing mother, who awaits her yet to be born baby and yet to be married hubby were perfect casts. Vijayakumar will get such a meaty role only in SIL's film and gets screenspace for 320 sec. 'Vaa Vallarasoo vaa' fame Mukesh Rishi, the only other Rahman we know and the Hollywood import Danny do exactly what Prakashraj reluctantly did in the first part - Listen to Surya's punch dialogues and wonder why they chose this profession.

There were many reviews which stated that DSP's music is the weak link in the otherwise great movie. I only think that his music is as good as the film.

Few days back, in one of the radio stations the RJ was talking about unbelievably funny scenes in TFI. As if all these stunts shown in our movies are genuine and believable, this RJ particularly referred to a by pass surgery conducted by Captain using the flashlight from the mobile phones of doctors, in the movie Sabari. No case of Irony here. I never said, Surya is the only one doing it. Did I?

Atleast, you agree that Surya is doing something here and agree quite emphatically that Surya is doing what Vijay used to do.

I agree with you. Surya is trying to ape Vijay's outdated mass masala route, which Vijay himself has abandoned some time ago.

The combination of twin disasters @ the boxoffice, plus the high billing that he seems to warrant these days, has put Surya in a desperation stage and it is evident for everyone to see.

Nakkal review ....

These days it is getting increasingly difficult to sit for 2 + hours in a movie hall. The '+' in this can be anything between 1/2 hour to 2 hours. A 9.30 am movie at PVR starts only at 10.10 am after we've mourned Mukesh's death a million times for ghutka-paan-sori-padai etc, saluted Indians in 'Being Dabanng' shirt to tracks to coat-suit standing for the National Anthem, watched the 'Mumps vandaHippopotamus' Sanjay Dutt in Policegiri trailer a dozen times before the movie starts, during the interval etc. By the time you are out of the theatre after watching an average Tamizh / Indhipadam, it's almost 12.30 pm.

So making one sit glued to his/her seat during the entire 160 minutes of the film is indeed a difficult task. In the last couple of years, I wanted to walk out of so so so many films like Ek Tha Tiger, 7-am arivu, Nondasamy, Goa, Damnchakkar, almost-every-other-Steel-Iron-Super-PittaLai-man Hollywood film and so on. Movies to me is all about entertainment. The hero-heroine-villain-comedian can dance, sing, cry, act do whatever but ultimately they should entertain me in some way or the other.

That way Singam-2 is entertainment, entertainment, entertainment. In many serious scenes, when Dorai Singam (Suriya) is busy giving dialaak about Indian Police or the importance of National flag or about Indian Police or about ... er.. Indian Police I found myself laughing aloud thinking about the great director Hari Saar has put in his heart, soul and Mercedes and Scorpios conceiving this with all sincerity. This review or note or (in bloggers' jargon) thoughts/ ramblings on Singam II is my salute to the one and only director Hari Saar. Give him the Bharat ratna now!

If you are one of those torrent vaasis who watches movies on eeteeb and hard disk types, kindly skip reading this. You'll never be able to understand and appreciate the vision of Hari Saar watching this epic on Sinnathirai

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nFUcp4i4XWU/Udk0efWuC_I/AAAAAAAACYs/MTVpd-GQHnQ/s400/SINGAM+2.jpg (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nFUcp4i4XWU/Udk0efWuC_I/AAAAAAAACYs/MTVpd-GQHnQ/s1600/SINGAM+2.jpg)

Story ley!

The movie starts with a gist of what happened in Singam 1 as a preview to all unfortunate souls who missed it. Dorai Singam (Suriya) is on a mission to nab the baddies as an undercover cop. He is now an NCC teacher in a school and is moppam pidichifying the villains. He realizes the local industrialists are smuggling drugs , follows them in Tuticorin, Kerala, Chennai and finally comes face to face with the kingpin Danny at South Africa. In between all this, are duets with Anoushka, one side laauv with Hansika, kaamedy with Santhanam and Viveik, Amma-Appa sentiment, Blackberry, video calls, ipad password, false eyelashes and some hi-tech stuff contributing this world-class entertainer. Whether Dorai Singam nabbed Danny and told him who the king of Indian ocean was, did his romance with Anoushka work out, have we been made to realize the power of Indian police is what the suspense of the story is.

Where there is no 'vay' ....

...use a "ley". Since the film has a Tuticorin backdrop we have a lot of veys and leys. All the leys and veys apart from travelling in boats saying eeey, veeey , leey also do an item dance with Anjali and her my-chitthi-is-forcing-me-to-dance velakkennai kudichcha look wearing left-overs from Khushbu-designed-dress in Kalakalappu. Kadavu'ley'!

Truly International vey!

Dorai Singam polandu kattufyes not just in Thoothukudi Tamizh but also in Indhi and English. When he utters the pullarikkira "D for Dil, D for Dushman, D for Dosti, D for Dorai Singam...." you want to clap non-stop and put a D for Dhanyavaad for Hari Saar for making Kollywood world-classer than what it is.

Director Hari Saar has made the villains speak Malayalam, Sinhalese and there is also Babylese which is villain Mukesh Rishi's va-va-va-va ba-ba-ba le-le-le and dupping coming to his rescue. Raguman looks confused and speaks one nember confused Tamizh. Chetta nee border cross cheydu Kerala migrate cheyyu, angane chaaya, Banana chips kazhichu. Kettiyo?

Music ley!

There is one dialogue in Singam 2 where Viveik makes one lengthy explanation of DSP standing for Devi Sri Prasad reminding us that the music director of the film is Sri Sri Sri Devi Sri Prasad. If there's one guy who should retire and resign immediately after this film, it is DSP! His songs sound like leftovers of Singam 1 and several other Golt movies. What's worse he ends up singing some of the tracks which obviously have been recorded in the bathroom . Constipated he sounds. "Sing and dance.. Singam dance" - Elay DSP! VRS vaangu ley!

Kaamedy vey!

What Peter, Muthu was to Nambiar in old films, Soosai is to Tamizh films these days. Every film has a kadarkarai background, fishermen sandhai, church backdrop, Parama pidha, Thiruchchabaireference scenes and there is a Soosai . I was infact looking for an Esakki as well. May be the character got chopped at the edit table. Santhanam plays Soosai in the film doing his own bit here and there adding to the madness. In between almost nail-biting serious scenes where Suriya is putting heroic dialaaks on what-else-but "INDIAN POLICE!!!!! " there is one sudden Santhanamkaamedy. That is the biggest Kaamedy of all ley!

Apparetion D ley!

Dorai Singam is on an ultimate mission to nab the baddies and comes up with Mission D where he is given the authority to shoot people and do whatever he wants to achieve his mission. This is one extra secretive mission which only Hari Saar's real life Mamanar & former Ettu-p-patti raasa Naattamai Vijaykumar and Dorai Singam are aware of. In one of the several climax scenes of the film, villain Raghuman tells Dorai "I'm aware of Mission D.. D for Doraisingam". Adukku Suriya says "D for Danny not Dorai singam" My gawwwddd! This this this this is one more fantastic-pullarikaramoment of the film when you want to clap and put D for Dappanguthu for Hari Saar.

Actors Gumbal ley!

I hope Hari Saar does NOT send this film for the National film awards. He should instead eye for the Aascars, Nobel Prize, Magsaysay and other International awards. To offset the presence of a bad Bhai, there is also a good (Kareem) bhai played by the one and only Mansoor (piles vyadiyo?) Ali Khan . To reiterate and remind the dumb audience that is us, that he is a "good" bhai, we have his wife in Burkha (note it you idiots!) at the hospital scene. I recommend Mansoor Ali Khan for Magsaysay award for putting up with piles vyaadhi and nadichu tuppufying. Long time no see Mansoor Bhai. Hope we see you more often from now on.

The Nobel Peace prize has to be given to Vijaykumar Saar. C'mon so much he has put up with right from Singam 1 to 2 for his daughter's (Director Hari Saar's wife) life! What's with actors like Radha Ravi and Kitty always looking constipated throughout the film .. I meant in the 11 seconds they appear (5.5 seconds each) ? I strongly suspect there has been some food poisoning in the unit food during the shooting of Singam II. There is also Nasser, Manorama, Viveik, 'Shadows' Ravi, Sumithra, Yuvarani and one huge gumbal.

There is also what-the-hell-am-I-doing-here Anoushka Shetty and here-I-am-looking-cute-and-bubbly-in-my-umpteenth-film Hansika Motwani as well. Looks like ivangalukkelam saappadu potte Producer would've spent half the budget of this film.

Indhi-vey

Dear Ajay Devgn, you can put dialaak, romance heroiney, dance, sing, jump, hit villains like Suriya but can any of your Indhi TV channels do a "Konjam Nadinga Boss" with any of your Singham 2 dialaaks should you decide to remake this too? The answer is NO! While watching the film, felt super thrilled at the very thought of namma makkal putting Singam 2 dialaaks in this world famous program on Adithya TV. Incase you are not aware of this awesomeness, here is a sample (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAxMOk_yJCs).

Last wordsu ley

Meanwhile, while our dear #Thalarockzzz fans (still figuring out titles of 53, 55, 59.5 films) and #ThalapathyRockzzz fans (wondering how to remove their "Sura"tic tag) are trying to post pirated links of Anoushka in Singam 2 with Kungumam on her Vagidu discussing whether she was married to Dorai Singam in the movie or not , and how Director Hari Saar has made this major continuity error of the blunder of the millennium and how Singam 2 is a blot to Kollywood's clean slate of epic movies like Billa 2 and Sura, guess who is loffing all the way to the bank making Kodis and breaking box-office records on Day 1?

"Sing and dance.. SINGAM dance!" - bwahahahaha!

Here's my rating of ... 4 stars... on Suriya's uniform . This man truly deserves a standing ovation, Padma Bhushan, Vibhushan, Param Vir chakra , Kalaimamani, Mylapore Academy, Adambakkam Fine arts and the other awards.

Dilbu,

Films like Pandian,Rajadhi Raja,Sivakasi. I liked them when they released and now they've become kinda stress busters. :) With ageing, you start to realise few things, right?

Yes I couldn't agree more with you but you can't single out any one actor or actress . All Masala movies will stink Not just Rajini, Vijay movies if you revisit them few years(decades) later. Remember those rumors of some these gems were nominated from India for Oscars :rotfl: And many still believe it.

Such a film, if released few years ago, would've been a huge hit for sure. But having watched films which are technically superior and have much better entertainment values lately, it is quite hard to stomach such over the top masalas. I liked Singam when it released, more than the overhyped Vaaranam Ayiram. But when I watched it again recently, I couldnt go past 30 mins. Have experienced the same with few Rajni,Vijay masalas too.

Singham-1 when released, was criticized by almost every critic. Surya's role was compared with Anbu Chelvan from Kaaka Kaaka and was panned for being too loud. And if week 2 is not witness a big fall in collections, Singham-2 is an equally or even bigger hit than Singham-1, if I am not wrong. Overseasla already hit. Enakku therinja sila pala Pemily audience padam nalla irukku/once paakalamnu vera solraanga. Ennathaa Cholla? :-)

And with this statement Damil Audiences overnite transformed themselves in to only (class) Art and Oscar nominated movie lovers, will continue to reject everything else !! sabash

Dilbu, please stop generalizing things. What i mentioned was my view of things, not all Damil Audiences' view. Audiences always support mass entertainers and it looks like Singam 2 might just pass the line. Good.

First things first, i was not a great fan of all the things that i have listed, even when my favorite actors were doing it. I am somewhat happy and relieved that some actors appear to have learnt from their mistakes.

Most of the actors concentrate on Mass masala entertainers and have their own formula, won't come out of their comfort zone to do anything different. It is very sad that Surya is going many steps back after showing good signs earlier.

Unfortunately, it looks like these kind of movies are the best bet once a hero reaches a particular stage in his career. All big heroes have tried their hand at this.

Surya has a big market in Andhra and hence he is forced to rope in the likes of DSP, Anushka and Hansika.

Also, i think all these 'success meet' and stuff are a bid to negate the impact of Social Media on a movie's success. The first 2-day colllection for Singam 2 would not be any different to the first few day collections of 7 am Arivu and Mattran. Infact, i think those 2 movies would have had better results, considering the form Surya was in those days. Hence the success meet after 2 days despite mixed reviews was nothing more than a strategy.

IMHO, Maatran and Alex Pandian lost in the Social Media and looks like Studio Green were determined this time around.

No likes/dislikes/comments for trailers and a success meet from day 2.........all pointers.

There is so much negative reviews here. To be honest the movie is a good entertainer despite its length i never felt bored or tired at once. It wasnt as cat and mouse game as part one but still packed enough punch for family audience. Thats the aim here, to get families flocking to the theatre.

All of us knew what we are into when Hari is the director. If you have expected anything else its ur fault.

They never called him desperate but now are here to call Surya desperate. It's those people that are desperate to prove Surya hasn't done anything news worthy. They can go cry a river but Surya is the most sought after in the current generation.
Now their favourite actor is so desperate to join politics.
