The Tamil Grammetical Work Tholkaappiam composed by Poet Tholkaappiar versed in "Iynthiram" was staged in the Second Thamil Sangam at Kapaadapuram (A region on the east of present Ramanaathapuram District now submerged under sea in a great Tsunami around the year B.C.650, in the audience hall of the Paandiya king "Nilam Tharu Thiruvit Paandiyan" (Maa Keerththi) presided by the "Aasaan" (great teacher) well versed in the Tamil Agamic Texts known as the "Thanthira Naanmarai" (not Vethaththu Naanmarai) of the region Athankodu of then Tamil Nadu. During this period the region of Tamil Nadu was within the limits of the Vengadam Hills in the north (in the present Andhra Pradesh near Thiruppathi), and Kanyakumari region in the south (in the present Tamil Nadu).

The "Iynthiram" (Iynthiram = Iyinthu - Thiramaikal, of Illakkanam) were the five sub-sections of "Thamil Illakkanam" prevalent in the Tholkaappiar period and were classified as:
