Tamil 'Thirumana Manthiram' to be recited at the time of tying Thaali at Manavarai
In all Tamil - Saivite and Vaishnavite Wedding Functions held in - Tamil Nadu, in the other states of India, in Sri Lanka, in Malaysia, in Singapore, in South Africa, in Canada, in U.K, in U.S, in Australia, in New Zealand, etc etc the standard Sacred Mantara recited in "Sanskrit" by the Saivite and Vaishnavite Priests is as follows:
The Sanskrit Thirumana Manthiram
Mangalyam tantunanena mama jeevana hetuna
kanthe badhnami subhage twam jeeva sarada satam"

Do the Brides, Bridegrooms, their respective Parents, or their Kith and Kin, or their close Relations and Friends who attend these weddings know what exactly is meant by this Mantara except for (may be only to) the Priests officiating the Wedding Ceremonies. We can be sure 99% of them, who are at these Wedding Functions does not know the actual meaning of this Mantara, but take it to grant and just be satisfied to themselves that it is a 'Holy Auspicious Mantara'.
This Mantara has been traditionally recited at Tamil - Saivite and Vaishnavite Weddings over a long period, and should this 'sad state of affairs' continue for many more years at Tamil Wedding Functions world over reciting a Sacred Sanskrit Mantara without knowing the meaning, instead of a Sacred Tamil Mantara where we all will know and appreciate the meaniing of what is being said and be able to attach much sanctity to same.
Let us examine the true meaning of this Sanskrit Mantara which is as follows:
“This is a sacred thread. This is essential for my long life. I tie this around your neck, O maiden having many auspicious attributes may you live happily for a hundred years"
Thats all - Does this be just enough to bless the Couple at the time of tying the Thali, and remind them on their reponsibilties in marriage" ??? - Not at all.
Hence in the process of re-Tamilising the Cultural and Religious Practices of the 'present day Tamils in every sphere it is 'high time' a new "Tamil Manthiram" be devised blessing the newly marrying Couples, and enlightening them on the principles of a Happy and Successfull marriage, at the great auspicious occasion of their Wedding Ceremony.
At the time of tying of Thaali, the Priest officiating the Tamil - Saivite or Vaishnavite Wedding ceremony could recite the following Tamil Mantara (Manthiram) in a "very sacred manner" inspiring the Bride and the Groom with it's meaning, and all those who are present at this ceremony in inturn strew sweet scented Flowers and Aruhu Arisi at the Bride and the Groom in the Manavarai blessing them, with the background play of the auspicious traditional Musical Instruments namely the Nathaswarem and Thavil suddenly going at high pitch at the time of tying of Thaali. (This Tamil Mantharam was composed by me with the words from the Tamil - 'Thirukkural' and 'Tholkaappiam').
