Very much impressed with the teaser. Goosebumps every frame as a VJ fan.

Clever move by Atlee not to show the bond between VJ and Kid in detail, we only got to see the glimpse, that too mostly rear and long shot. Eagerly waiting to see VJ as a caring dad.

Am i the only one who thinks the whole album is a let down based on first listen? I will give it time but for all the hype and build up it is not cutting it for me.

Theri - therrific

Theri songs are very good imo. GVP put my words and worries to shame. On first hearing I already like Jithu Jillaadi, Raangu, En Jeevan. Eena Meena is okay. Thaaimai is very melodious it will grow on me later because im a sucker for good melodies. I am a bit dissapointed with En chella kutty but I hope the MV will make me like the song. I feel Vijay or GVP could have sung En Jeevan. Theme is also worth listening to the rap&lyrics is by the comedian and mimicry artist Arunraja Kamaraj who worked with Sivakarthikeyan in Vijay TV's Kalakka Povathu Yaaru.

* முதலவாதாக மீனாவும் அவருடைய மகள் நைனிகாவும் மேடையேறினார்கள். "அட்லீ என்னிடம் பேசும் போது என்னைத் தான் நடிக்க அழைக்கிறார் என்று நினைத்தேன். ஆனால் என் மகள் நைனிகாவை நடிக்க கேட்ட போது எனக்கு ஆச்சர்யமாக இருந்தது. இப்படத்தில் முக்கிய பாத்திரத்தில் நடித்திருக்கிறாள். நாலு வயது நிரம்பியவளுக்கு இவ்வளவு முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த பாத்திரம் கிடைப்பது இக்காலத்தில் அபூர்வமானது. தண்ணீருக்கு அடியில் காட்சிகள் படமாக்கப்பட்ட போது கொஞ்சம் பயந்துவிட்டேன். 3 முதல் 4 படங்கள் தேதிகள் இல்லாததால் விஜய்யுடன் நடிக்கும் வாய்ப்பை தவற விட்டிருக்கிறேன். எனக்கு அவருடைய நடனம் மிகவும் பிடிக்கும்" என்று பேச்சில் குறிப்பிட்டார் மீனா.

* 'நான் கடவுள்' ராஜேந்திரனை மேடைக்கு அழைத்த போது பலத்த கரவொலியை கேட்க முடிந்தது. அவருடைய பேச்சில் "'ஐ யம் வெயிட்டிங்' என்று விஜய் சார் முன்னால் வசனம் பேசும் போது மிகவும் பயமாக இருந்தது. ஆனால் சார் தான் என்னை சமாதானப்படுத்தினார். மிகவும் நட்போடு பழகினார், அவரோடு நடித்ததிற்கு நான் கொடுத்து வைத்திருக்க வேண்டும்" என்று ராஜேந்திரன் பேசினார்.

* "ஷோபா அண்ணி, எஸ்.ஏ.சி அண்ணா அருமையாக புள்ளைய வளர்ந்திருக்கீங்க. சங்கீதா பாப்பா அருமையான ஆம்பளையே பார்த்திருக்கா" என்று தன்னுடைய பேச்சில் தெரிவித்தார் பிரபு.

* இயக்குநர் மகேந்திரனை மேடையேற்றும் முன்பு அவரைப் பற்றிய வீடியோ ஒன்று திரையிடப்பட்டது. 'முள்ளும் மலரும்', 'ஜானி', 'உதிரிப்பூக்கள்' ஆகிய காட்சிகளோடு வீடியோவை சிறப்பாக அமைத்திருந்தார்கள். அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து மேடையேறினார் இயக்குநர் மகேந்திரன்

* உங்க படத்தில் உலகத்தை காண்பித்தீர்கள், உங்களை உலககிற்கு காட்ட வேண்டும் என்று இயக்குநர் மகேந்திரனிடம் தாணு பேசி நடிக்க சம்மதம் வாங்கியிருக்கிறார்.

* "நான் மதிக்கும் மிகப்பெரிய கலைஞன் விஜய். 2015 மார்ச் மாதம் நான் விஜய்யின் படத்தில் நடிப்பேன் என்று நினைக்கவில்லை. ஆனால் 2016 மார்ச்சில் இங்கு நிற்கிறேன். இயக்குநர் அட்லீ ஒரே ஒரு படம் இயக்கிவிட்டு, இன்று சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் படத்தை இயக்கி இருக்கிறார். கெட்ட பையன் சார் இந்த அட்லீ. இப்படத்தில் இயக்குநர் அட்லீ சென்டிமெண்ட் காட்சிகளை எல்லாம் மிகவும் அற்புதமாக கையாண்டு இருக்கிறார். நான் ரொம்ப அதிர்ஷ்டம் பண்ணியிருக்க வேண்டும். விஜய் என்ற பெரிய மகாநடிகரோடு நடித்திருக்கிறேன். ஒரு நல்ல மனிதன் என்பதற்கு சிறந்த உதாரணம் விஜய். இப்படத்தில் அவர் நடித்திருக்கும் சண்டைக்காட்சிகள் என்னை ஆச்சர்யமடைய செய்தது." என்று பேசினார் இயக்குநர் மகேந்திரன்.

* டி.ராஜேந்தர் பாடியிருக்கும் 'ராங்கு' படத்தின் பாடல் உருவான விதம் திரையிடப்பட்டது. நடன இயக்குநர் ஸ்ரீதர் மாஸ்டர் "விஜய் அண்ணன் தரை லோக்கலாக இறங்கி குத்தியிருக்கிறார்" என்று தனது பேச்சில் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

* ஏமிஜாக்சன் "நான் விஜய்யின் தீவிர ரசிகை. அவருடன் நடிப்பதற்கு நான் கொடுத்து வைத்திருக்க வேண்டும். அவருடன் இணைந்து நடனமாடும் போது எனக்கு நிறைய உதவிகள் பண்ணினார்" என்று பேசினார்.

* ஜி.வி.பிரகாஷ் இசையமைப்பில் உருவாகி இருக்கும் 50வது படம் 'தெறி' என்பதால் அவரைப் பற்றிய ஒரு வீடியோ பதிவு திரையிடப்பட்டது. அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து ஜி.வி.பிரகாஷ் மேடையேறினார்.

* "இந்த தருணத்தில் ஷங்கர் சார் மற்றும் வசந்தபாலன் சார் இருவரக்கும் நன்றி தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறேன். எனக்கு முதல் வாய்ப்பு வழங்கியது அவர்கள் தான். விஜய் சார் மற்றும் இயக்குநர் அட்லீ இருவருக்கும் எனது 50வது பட வாய்ப்பு வழங்கியதற்காக நன்றி. இப்படத்தில் வரும் பாடல்கள் அனைத்துமே விஜய் சாரிடன் நடனத்தை மனதில் வைத்து உருவாக்கப்பட்டது தான்" என்று பேசினார் இசையமைப்பாளர் ஜி.வி.பிரகாஷ்.

* தயாரிப்பாளர் தாணு பற்றி வீடியோ தொகுப்பு திரையிடப்பட்ட பின் பேசிய தாணு "நான் 'சச்சின்' படம் பண்ணும் போது அவ்வளவு சந்தோஷப்பட்டேன். அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து 'துப்பாக்கி' பண்ணச் சொன்னார். அதற்கு பிறகு 'தெறி'
கதையைக் கேட்க சொன்னார். இப்படத்தின் முதல் பாதியை கேட்ட் உடனே நான் தயாரிப்பதாக கூறினேன். படங்களில் ஷங்கரை மிஞ்சிவிட்டான் அட்லீ. ஷங்கர் மற்றும் ஏ.ஆர். முருகதாஸ் இருவரின் கலவை தான் அட்லீ. சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் கிட்ட போகும் போது எனக்கு பேச வராது, அதே போல் தான் விஜய்யிடமும். 'தெறி' போன்று 10 படங்கள் அவரோடு பண்ணலாம். தெலுங்கு திரையுலகிற்கு ஒரு 'பாகுபலி' என்றால், தமிழ் திரையுலகிற்கு ஒரு 'தெறி'" என்று பேசினார்.

* இயக்குநர் அட்லீ பற்றிய வீடியோ தொகுப்பு திரையிடப்பட்ட பின் பேசிய அட்லீ "விஜய் டிவி மகேந்திரன் இக்கதையைக் கேட்டவுடன் இது விஜய் சாருக்கு பொருத்தமாக இருக்கும் என்றார். அது தற்போது உண்மையாகி இருக்கிறது. இப்படத்தில் எனக்கு அவருடன் பணியாற்றியது மறக்க முடியாத ஒன்று. எனக்கு பிடித்த ஒரு காதல் விஜய், உங்களுக்கு பிடித்த ஒரு மாஸ் விஜய், அவருடைய குடும்பத்துக்கு பிடித்த ஒரு விஜய் என இப்படத்தில் இருக்கிறார். 'ஜித்து ஜில்லாடி' பாடலுக்காக 40 நொடிகள் ஒரே ஷாட்டில் நடனமாடி இருக்கிறார். இப்படத்தில் அரசியல் வசனங்கள் மற்றும் சர்ச்சைக்குரிய காட்சிகள் என எதுவுமே கிடையாது. 'தெறி' ஒரு நல்ல அப்பாவைப் பற்றிய கதை" என்று தெரிவித்தார்.

* அட்லீ பேசும்போது ரசிகர்கள் பலர் 'அண்ணா.. தெறி 2' என்று கத்தினார்கள். அதற்கு 'இருமா இருமா. முதல்ல 'தெறி' முடித்துக் கொள்கிறேன்' என்றார் அட்லீ.

* எம்.ஜி.ஆர், ரஜினிகாந்த் என தொடங்கும் விஜய்யை பற்றி ஒரு வீடியோ பதிவு ஒன்றை திரையிட்டார்கள். அந்த வீடியோ பதிவு முடியும் போது "வாருங்கள் கொண்டாட்டத்தை தெறிக்க விடுவோம்" என்ற வசனத்துடன் முடிவுற்றது. அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து பலத்த கரகோஷத்திற்கு இடையே விஜய் மேடையேறினார்.

* "பொதுவாக இசை வெளியீட்டு விழாவில் இசையமைப்பாளர் நாயகனாக இருப்பார். இன்றைக்கு ஒரு இசையமைப்பாளர் உண்மையில் நாயகனாக இருக்கிறார். விர்ஜின் பசங்களோட தலைவர் ஜி.வி.பிரகாஷ். இப்படத்தில் ஒருத்தங்க செல்ஃபி புள்ள என்றால் இன்னொருத்தங்க குல்ஃபி புள்ள. என்னோட ரசிகர்கள் எல்லாரும் சில பல உயரங்கள் தொடணும்னு எனக்கு ஆசை. அடுத்தவங்க தொட்ட உயரத்தை இலக்காக வைத்துக் கொள்ளாதீர்கள். நீங்களே உங்களுக்கு ஒரு உயரத்தை செட் பண்ணி அதை அடைய முயற்சி பண்ணுங்கள். எனக்கு பொதுவாக என் படத்தைப் பற்றி பேசுவது பிடிக்காது. ஆகையால் என் மனதில் பட்டதைப் பேசுகிறேன். தோல்விக்கு ஆயிரம் காரணங்கள் இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் வெற்றி எப்பவுமே ஆயிரம் தோல்விகள் மட்டுமே காரணமாக இருக்க முடியும்" என்று பேசினார் விஜய்.

* விஜய் தன்னுடைய பேச்சுக்கு இடையே இரண்டு குட்டிக் கதைகளைச் சொன்னார். அதில் ரஷ்ய தலைவர் மாவோ பற்றிய ஒரு கதை எனக் குறிப்பிட்டார். ஆனால், அவர் சீனத் தலைவர்.

* அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து பலத்த கரகோஷத்திற்கு இடையே 'தெறி' ட்ரெய்லர் திரையிடப்பட்டது. அதேவேளையில் இணையத்திலும் ட்ரெய்லர் வெளியானது.

* 'தெறி' படக்குழுவினர் அனைவருமே மேடையேறி படத்தின் இசையை வெளியிட்டார்கள். இப்படத்தில் முக்கிய பாத்திரத்தில் நடித்திருக்கும் நைனிகா 'தெறி' சி.டியை திறந்து வைத்தார்

Songs are average, not even coming close to the hype this movie is generating with grandeur visuals and trailer.

GVP and Atlee did not had a gr8 album with Raja Rani too, but I am sure they will rock with the BGM.

My take on the Album :

1) Eena Meena Teeka - 4/5 (Uthara super voice, Vijay should have sung this song IMO)
2) Jithu Jilladi - 3/5 (Mixed feelings, good could have been better)
3) En jeevan - 3/5 (Felt too slow, but good)
4) Chellakutty - 3/5 (First time, song sung by Vijay is not topping the chart, GVP :twisted:)
5) Rangu Rangu - 2.5/5 (TR wasted)

விஜய் நடிக்கும் தெறி படத்தின் பாடல்களுக்கு ரசிகர்கள் ஆட்டம் பாட்டத்தோடு வெல்கம் கொடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள். பாடல்களைப் போலவே தெறி படத்தின் போஸ்டர்களும் விஜய் ரசிகர்களை விசில் போட வைத்துவிட்டன. வழக்கமாக விஜய் படத்தின் போஸ்டர்கள் ஆக்*ஷனை மையப்படுத்தி இருக்கும். ஆனால் 'தெறி'யில், விஜய், நைனிகாவை (மீனாவின் மகள்) தோளில் வைத்துக்கொண்டு இருவரும் உதட்டில் ஒரு விரலை வைத்து உஷ்..., சொல்வது, பறவை போல நைனிகா கைகளை விரித்திருக்க, அவரைத் தூக்கியபடியே இருக்கும் போஸ்டர் எனச் சொல்வதுபோல உருவாக்கப்பட்டிருப்பது அனைவரையும் திரும்பிப் பார்க்க வைத்திருக்கிறது.

Theri triggers frenzy across social media


Just hours after online bookings in multiplexes in the city for actor Vijay’s latest Theri began at midnight, social media exploded with memes and screenshots of the multiplex websites displaying houseful shows early on Sunday.
The film, directed by Atlee — his second after
Raja Rani — is currently the only major release for Tamil New Year on April 14, a holiday which generally sees a clash of major releases. “We opened advance bookings at midnight and by 6 a.m., we sold nearly 6,000 tickets. The response has been phenomenal and so far, it seems like the only confirmed release for April 14,” said Abirami Ramanathan, managing director of Abirami Multiplex. Among the screenshots going viral on Twitter and Facebook were of sold-out shows at SPI cinemas in the city, which have scheduled 104 shows on Thursday across five multiplexes in the city.
Sustained social media campaign
Going beyond promotional activities and celebrations that begin on the day of release, Vijay’s strong fan base has kept up a sustained social media campaign with memes, fan-made posters and short videos since the release of the film’s teaser.
“Visuals of the movie have been very appealing and this has given us a lot of content for unofficial promotion online. Our expectations are sky high for the movie, as is usually with any Vijay film,” said S. Bala, a student.
Many fans said they ensured they caught the first-day, first-show of all Vijay films early in the morning at Vettri theatre in Chromepet as the atmosphere there was the best, said S. Nithish, a software engineer from the city who has a fan website for the actor.
Replicating the fanfare on the release day in theatres across Chennai, G. Ashwath, an analyst from New Jersey where the film is expected to release, said: “Advance bookings start from Monday and the theatres here have told us that based on the demand, they will add more shows if needed.”

Kollywood conquers the country

In multiplexes outside Tamil Nadu, star-driven big-budget Tamil films have emerged as viable content. This has ended the domination of Bollywood and Hollywood films, with even Telugu films finding slots in multiplexes across the country.
Rest of India (ROI), in trade parlance, is the market that comprises screens in Kerala, Karnataka, Mumbai, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi and a few isolated pockets in the East. This market excludes Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, as Tamil films usually get dubbed into Telugu and released here, or their remake rights sold to Telugu filmmakers.
A new market has also opened up for Tamil cinema on national television, as the masala
films, when dubbed into Hindi, are able to fetch high TRP ratings. Last week, for instance, the Hindi dubbing rights for Vijay’s
Theri were purchased by a channel’s agent for almost 50 per cent of its Tamil satellite value. In early 2000, a big-budget Tamil film starring Rajinikanth, such as Padaiyappa, had an ROI valuation of around Rs. 2 crore, but today, the theatrical and satellite valuation for such a film in Tamil or Telugu is anywhere between Rs.10 and 15 crore!
Kamal Gianchandani, CEO and chief of strategy at PVR, says, “We see huge potential in southern regional cinema (Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam), as they are able to penetrate non-traditional markets in North and Western India, thanks to subtitling. Last year, one of the biggest grossers was Baahubali; even a classy film like Mani Ratnam’s O Kadhal Kanmani, when subtitled, did good business in North Indian screens. Across our properties, regional cinema is growing at the rate of 15 per cent every year; this is huge.”
Kerala is now Tamil cinema’s biggest ROI territory, from theatricals alone. After Malayalam, Tamil films collect the highest in the state, followed by Hindi. Last week, the Kerala rights of Vijay’s Theri were sold, if rumours are true, for Rs. 5.6 crore! An industry analyst points out that the cost of procuring the rights for such a film is about the same that goes into making a Malayalam film with stars. Actors like Vijay and Suriya even have dedicated fan clubs that celebrate their releases with cut-outs, banners and
palabhishekams .
Interestingly though, films like Kaaka Muttai
and Visaranai didn’t do as well in Kerala, as commercial entertainers like Baahubali and I. This could be caused by the huge Tamil migrant labour force employed in Kerala. In fact, Tamil masala films draw huge openings in Kerala, with the top collecting centres being Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Palakkad and Thrissur. Vijay’s Theri is releasing in Kerala on April 14 in as many as 175 screens. To put this in context, Nivin Pauly’s Jacobinte Swargarajyam released in 92 screens on earlier this week! Social media also seems to play a crucial role in spreading the word about Tamil films in Kerala. The present multiplex and theatre renovation boom in the State also owes itself to the freedom given by the government when it comes to the number of shows and ticket pricing.
Meanwhile, in Karnataka, Tamil films are the fourth-largest grossers after Kannada, Hindi and Telugu. Karnataka is also the second-largest market for Tamil films outside the state. 90 per cent of the total Tamil box-office collections in Karnataka come from Bengaluru city and its suburbs, with the remaining 10 per cent coming from the rest of the state, mainly Mysore and Kolar. Salim Mohammad, a film trade consultant, says, “In Karnataka, stars like Rajinikanth and Vijay rule the box office. The market is almost totally Bengaluru-based, with Hindi and Telugu films eating a bigger share of the box-office pie. During the last couple of years, due to stiff competition among buyers, the prices of star-driven Tamil films have gone through the roof. A film like Theri has to get the maximum number of shows and prime showcasing in multiplexes to be profitable.” But as Pawan Kalyan’s Sardaar Gabbar Singh (April 8), Vijay’s Theri (April 14), and Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan (April 15) have all been slated for release within a week, Bengaluru’s multiplex owners are struggling to schedule these films.
Mumbai has also emerged as one of the key collecting centres for Tamil cinema. Ten years ago, Tamil films were being released only in a single screen at Aurora in Matunga, a locality dominated by Tamil inhabitants. Suddenly though, when national media woke up to the scale of Enthiran , Aurora, in 2010, had a 5 a.m. show for the first time, when it showed Rajinikanth’s Enthiran . The show ran to a packed audience. Today, Tamil films get released across almost 30 screens, when subtitled. New-age directors like Karthik Subbaraj, Manikandan and Nalan Kumarasamy have even managed to find non-Tamil audiences for their films. In the northern belt, comprising cities like Delhi, Noida, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Lucknow, Tamil films are being screened in multiplexes in limited shows and have good occupancy during the weekends. Tamil films have truly gone national during the last decade.

THERI MOVIE REVIEW


Finally the day that Vijay fans were eagerly awaiting has arrived. Yes, we see the arrival of one of the most anticipated Tamil films of 2016, Theri. After an experimental Puli, Vijay gets back to his commercial route. The plot of the movie revolves around an ex-cop who is being revenged by an evil politician and the battle between the two. In simple words, Theri is a story about a good father versus a bad father.

Vijay is the real Theri of the film; he brings in that spark to the floor. He sports three different makeovers and if his third get up had not been revealed in the trailer, there could have been a surprise element for the audience. Be it as a loving father or as an honest fearless cop or as a caring husband, Vijay shines in every frame. The Theri man has given his best. Overall a performance that will satisfy all center audiences and it is the most convincing cop avatar Vijay has portrayed.

20 minutes into the movie, there is Baasha kind of a moment for Vijay, his fans waiting for the real ‘Vijay kumar’ to erupt. You sense the restlessness, and when it does happen, it is the perfect first day first show fan moment. Special mention for editor Ruben for his fast cut edit pattern in the opening stunt. Jithu Jilladi is also one such addition for the fans to have a blast, creatively canned.

One thing that goes against the film is the predictability factor. When there is a suspense moment, you would want the audience not to guess it right. But in Theri’s case, viewers are able to connect the dots and predict what is going to happen next. Perhaps could be a case of trailer revealing more than needed.

Atlee must be lauded for handling the emotional scenes very well, but few such scenes look a little force fitted and dramatic taking the pace away. Two duets also slow down the proceedings.

You would find a momentarily mass scene whenever you feel the screenplay is tilting towards the slower side, which would keep the crowd buzzing now and then. One of the best high points of the film would be the interval block. There are quite a few fight scenes in the film for fans and all are crisply choreographed.

The biggest find of Theri is obviously the legendary director Mahendran’s acting skills. His mannerism, style and dialogue delivery are all top class. A couple of battle scenes between Mahendran and Vijay will be talked about. Motta Rajendran travels throughout the film but does not have too many chances to score, but whenever he gets a chance, he makes the best use of it.

Theri could be one of Samantha’s best roles; she plays a doctor and has given out a soulful performance. Amy’s makeover in Theri as a teacher based out of Kerala, is quite convincing. Nainika is a doll and her expressions are just adorable. She scores the second highest claps and whistles in the hall, after Vijay.

Theri will also be known for its visual brilliance. Be it the action sequences or the songs, you would find some top notch camera angles as well as lighting, thanks to cinematographer George C Williams.

GV Prakash’s background score definitely adds the mass as well as the emotional connect elegantly. One more credible work to his list.

On the whole, Theri is a little predictable emotional ride with some great performances, superlative technical work with a mix of commercial elements.

Was expecting a nice entertainer. Average Stuff..Engaging to a certain extent similar to Raja Rani. Will fare good at BO considering no other movie to compete with. I dont know how this guy maintains his physique. Amazing. I did not like the Kudumi style on him though. Nainika was excellent, Mottai Rajendran was rocking as usual.

Theri : All style, minimal substance

Caught it last night at Rex Cinemas, Singapore. The friend I was with is the kind that thinks Vijay's only good movie was Thuppakki. After the movie ended, she told me she liks this more than Thuppakki and it might be Vijay's best performance to date. And guess what? She isn't wrong.

I loved the movie. I don't remember the last time a movie made me laugh and cry so much in equal parts. Mahendran Sir, Baby Nanika(Indeed a kutty Meena), Motta Rajendran, Radhika all bought their A game to the movie. Samantha did her role beautifully. Amy, on the other hand, was a cardboard. She even seemed disinterested at some parts. Finally, Vijay. What a performance. Vijay showed a glimpse that he's more than just an entertainer, that he's an actor in Kaththi as Jeevanandham which still is my favourite Vijay film. Atlee has extracted that part and portrayed it beautifully. Vijay excelled in everything he did, be it a father, a wife, a son or a cop. It was beautiful to watch.

The biggest negative of the movie is the story. The content is not strong. Atlee has packaged a neat action flick with a social message but the story is flimsy at best. This is where Thuppakki/Kaththi, and by extention, ARM, comes up on top. Other than that, the only other negative are the songs. They weren't placed well and tended to slow the momentum of the film. BGM was top notch though so kudos to GV. The fight scenes were realistic and raw. Loved it. Editing crisp. But I need to single out one particular technician. George C Williams. I loved his work in Kaththi. He continued on with Theri. Each frame was excellent. The close ups during mass scenes even more so. He really bought Theri to the next level.

As a whole, I loved it and totally worth the asking price. Atlee didn't disappoint with his second film. I will be watching it again on Saturday. Theri will hit 100cr without problems. Even the neutrals and haters like it.

@ Shankar very good review....fuming inside tat I still didn't watch(not released in kanchipuram because of chengalpet issue) it wen most of the people raving about movie and vijay's acting...kanchipuram alone movie easily collects around 60 lakhs on day 1...4 days easy 1.5 Crs...wat a costly miss...not sure wat dhanu gonna achieve in this....its really worrying to c thousands of people standing outside the theatre from early morning daily to c whether movie gets release today...

Watched again today, Superb response in theatre. Went with 2 neutral and 1 Ajith fan. Everybody liked it and the neutrals want to watch it again for cute Nainika.

Vijay fan inside me want to watch it again :)

Stylish cop VJ is a treat to watch on screen (Tip : Book your ticket in a a large screen and in some front row).

Real heroes are GVP's BGM and George Camera, Therikka vitrukanga..

i have some more time to write about what i loved about theri... here we go!

Atlee said during photo teaser reveal that people will know after watching the movie why it has been named Theri and he is correct! My word, the sparks were flying left, right and centre throughout the movie! I feel acting wise this has been vijay best in some time. Thupakki and Kaththi and amazing but this one just edged it as some scenes he would be casually talking and change it mid scene to a serious scene. You could see that in school scene, interval block scene etc - Just too good!

First half went super fast - Although it is a police movie most of it was Vijay the "family man" instead police man. If anything there was just three scenes for police cases - school, beggars and rape scene. Second half - seems slow but it is not that is due to the fantastic first half and the interval block. Second half was really intense as you want to know what happened to Samantha and Radhika and how Nivi survived - it was brilliant! The ghosting technique is typical mass tamil cinema we have seen it in 100s of movies in the past!

I must add only two songs were visually great and both of them were with Samantha. I expected a lot more from Eena meena but Jithu Jilladi was a major let down! Not sure why they thought Deva would suit vijay - it was such a miss match and the voice did not fit in especially when vijay looks so young!


Overall, very happy with Theri. Looking forward to Vijay60 now!

Post 2004, I rate this film as the 3rd best after Thuppakki and Kaththi in bringing out the best in Vijay. The story is nothing new. A sincere cop, nearly killed by the villain, manages to survive for his kid. He leads a different life in another part of the country, only to be found again by the villain. But Atlee ensures that it is told in the right way, hitting the right chords with the audience. Bravo!! :)

Vijay excels in his most convincing cop role till date. I especially loved the undercurrent in the scenes involving Vijay and Mahendran. The romance portions with Samantha was superb and the mom-son chemistry was fabulous. It was a treat to watch Vijay in such an uber cool avatar. பின்னீட்டீங்க தலைவா...

Samantha's luck with Vijay continues with Theri. More often than not, the love portions in an action film acts as a speed breaker. Even in a film like Kaththi, I felt it took some pace off. But here, it worked really well. Amy's role was needless though. Except for listening to the flashback, she doesn't have anything to do. I hope the directors let go the cliché of having a second heroine if the first heroine dies in the film.

Rajendran gets a lifetime role which is quite similar to the ones Goundamani used to do when he was at his peak. A faithful assistant to the hero. Few of his one liners brought the roof down. Radhika has a small role for her abilities. But she has done full justice to it. The real surprises though were Mahendran and Nainika. The former's mannerisms reminded me of Rajinikanth in many places. And I don't remember any other mass entertainer where the hero doesn't even touch the villain once through the film. Well thought!! Nainika was a delight to watch, especially for her witty replies to her dad. There was always a danger of the kid going overboard but thankfully it didn't happen

GVP's songs didn't appeal to me much on the first listen. But they worked really well in the film and the score was also pulsating. A memorable 50th outing!!

George C Williams and art director Muthuraj (has done a cameo as the villainous Chetaa) have done a fabulous job. The market fight is the right example to show how good the cinematography,art direction and stunt choreography was.

The film is not without flaws. The last 30 minutes could've been much better. I would like to quote the example of Sethupathi, another cop film that i recently enjoyed. The mass of the hero is boosted with some intelligent and clap worthy scenes. Theri was missing that. It was like a smooth flight affected by turbulence while landing. Second, the abrupt cuts. Even though the screenplay is racy enough, the cuts were so irregular in an otherwise neat presentation.

On the whole, its a memorable film for Vijay fans and like any Vijay blockbuster, the film is continuing to draw large crowds to the theatre. A 75% full hall on a weekday in Dubai is something i have not seen. I witnessed that yesterday.

Disagree. That was one of the highlights of Vijay's performance. This particular scene for me was the most difficult. You underplay and the scene makes no sense. I can see where you are coming from and I can't make you think otherwise and I am not trying to. I just felt it wasn't needed since the next scene they went back to marrying each other without any problem from her father. That issue was completely ignored.

'Theri' box office collection: Vijay's film shatters records of SS Rajamouli's 'Bahubali,' Ajith's 'Vedalam' - http://www.ibtimes.co.in

"Theri" has become the biggest hit at the Chennai box office in Vijay's career. The movie has also broken the records of SS Rajamouli's "Bahubali," also spelt as "Baahubali," and Ajith's "Vedalam" in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
The total collection of "Theri" by the end of its third weekend stood at Rs. 8.76 crore, as per Behindwoods (http://behindwoods.com/tamil-movies/theri/theri-box-office-may-01.html). The Vijay-starrer has surpassed the collection of "Bahubali," which had minted Rs. 8.28 crore in its lifetime, and Ajith's "Vedalam," which had earned Rs. 6.70 crore in Chennai.

"Theri" had a fantastic opening in Chennai, raking in Rs. 3.06 crore from 456 shows in the first weekend. In its second weekend the Vijay-starrer had earned Rs. 1.67 crore from 426 shows to take its 10-day total to Rs. 6.49 crore.



The movie has now occupied the second place in the list of highest-grossing Tamil movies in Chennai. Chiyaan Vikram's "I" is in the numero uno position, having raked in Rs. 9.70 crore in its lifetime. "Theri" is expected to cross this record by this week.

However, "24" might be a hurdle in the path of "Theri," as Suriya's film is ready for release big in Chennai this Friday, May 6. The Vijay-starrer is likely to lose many screens to the science-fiction movie, and it should be interesting to see how Ilayathalapathy's flick does in the coming days.

"Theri" in the overseas Market
"Theri" has done great business in the North America, where it has minted $1,127,386 ($728,317 in U.S. and $399,069 in Canada). In the U.K., it has raked in £392,568 and is now in the third place in the list of all-time biggest Tamil hits in the region.
The movie has been written and directed by Atlee Kumar and produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu. Samantha and Amy Jackson have played the female leads in the flick, which was released on April 14.

Working With Him Makes Jagapathi Babu Nostalgic

Chennai: Actor Jagapathi Babu, who is sharing screen space with superstar Vijay in the upcoming yet-untitled Tamil project, says the association has rekindled some old memories, making him nostalgic.
"It's a lovely feeling to be working with Vijay. Our fathers had collaborated on several southern projects. It’s our turn to finally join hands and it feels very nostalgic," Jagapathi Babu told IANS.
In the project, Jagapathi Babu plays the antagonist.

Talking about working with Vijay, he said: "It is such a moving moment for me, as history is being repeated in this era in this way. I am so excited to be a part of this project. Acting with Vijay is such a delight, he is so humble. He is a dedicated and very intense actor, and I am hopeful my chemistry with him onscreen will be loved by the audience".

The movie is being directed by Bharathan and bankrolled by producer Venkatram Reddy, son of B. Nagi Reddy of the famous Vijaya Vauhini Studios.
Interestingly, Jagapathi's father and late filmmaker V.B. Rajendra Prasad is a close friend of B. Nagi Reddy.

"There is a strong bond that continues to live between me and Venkatram sir. It rewinds heart-warming memories of the past. This is a fantastic film and I am thrilled to be part of it. If dad is watching me, he will be equally elated,” he concluded.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay's 'Theri' to reach 100 days on 'Kabali' release day

Vijay's "Theri" is set to reach an important milestone on the day when Rajinikanth's "Kabali" hits screens. Ilayathalapathy's flick will complete its 100 days run in theatres on July 22. Coincidentally, both the movies are produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu.
"Theri" hit screens on April 14 on the occasion of Tamil New Year. The movie was released in over 1200 screens worldwide and had opened to mixed reviews. On the first day, the Kollywood flick had minted Rs. 28.96 crore and ended its four-day weekend at Rs. 85.36 crore worldwide.

Atlee Kumar's film had Samantha and Amy Jackson in the female leads. The movie tells the story of a sincere cop, who gets into the bad books of the villain for killing his son. The struggles the police officer faces and how the hero responds to the situations form the crux of the story.




"Theri" is the highest-grossing Tamil movie of 2016 till date. So far, the movie has collected over Rs. 150 crore worldwide. The movie is still being played in a few screens in Tamil Nadu and it will reach the 100-day mark on July 22.
On the other hand, Kalaippuli S Thanu formally announced the release date of "Kabali" on Monday, July 11. The producer tweeted (https://twitter.com/theVcreations/status/752510094290542593), "#Kabali will be releasing worldwide on 22 July 2016 !! We couldn't be more excited @superstarrajini @beemji :) [sic]"
The sheer coincidence of "Theri" reaching the 100-day mark and "Kabali" releasing on the same day have excited Kollywood movie goers. Especially, fans of Rajinikanth and Vijay have welcomed the news and they are all set to create trends with multiple hashtags on July 22.

"Kabali" is expected to hit screens worldwide in four languages (Tamil, Telugu, Malay and Hindi). The screen count of the film is expected to be easily above 3500. The industry insiders predict the Rajinikanth-starrer to beat the records of "Theri."
