A brief study on the Tamil Thevars (Devers) of Tamil Nadu

"Thevars (Devers)" is not the name of a "caste" but the name of the "decendents of 'Native Tamilians' of Tamil Nadu from the period of early sixth century A.D." who choose the "profession" of being "warriors at war" and served under great Tamil dynasties the "pre-medieval period Paandiyas", "medieval Cholas" and "post-medieval period Pandiyas of Tamil Nadu, who all bore the name Thevars (Devers) as suffix to their repective royal names.

As evidence we could refer to the names of these kings and emperors as appearing in their "Meikeerthis" normally found in the copper-plate grants to Saivite and Vaishnavite temples in Tamil Nadu, and in the Stone Inscriptions on the walls of these Temples a few of which are as follows:

Rajaraja Chola Thevar
Rajendra Chola Thever
Rajathiraja Chola Thever
Virarajendra Chola Thever
Kulothunga Chola Thever
Vikkrama Chola Thever.

Sundera Paandiya Thever
Vira Paandiya Thever
Kulasekara Paandiya Thever,
Paraakrama Paandiya Thever etc etc (to continue0
