Informations on the History of production of Kanchipuram & other Sarees In Tamil Nadu will be posted in this Website at an early date. Saree Industry flourished in Kanchipuram from the period of Karikaalan the Chola king of the first century, and during great Chola Empire of Tamil Nadu of the medieval period. It is "absolutely wrong" by some writers to say that Kanchpuram Sarees were weaved by some weaving settlers from Andhra Pradesh.

Even during the period of Karikatcholan 2000 year ago the Tamils weaved Sarees with very thin thread with flower work and silk sarees which were very silky and shiny like the pealing-out skin of the snakes. Many of these Silk Sarees had wide "Karai" border.
Kanchipuram was developed into a great ciry by Karkaal Cholan who also had one of his palaces to in this region 2000 years ago.

The following references from the Tamil Literary work of the Karikaal Cholan period further confirms same.

".....noakku nulai kallaa nunmai pookkaninthu aravu uri yanna Aruvai....."

".....kottaik karaiya Pattu Udai nalki....."
