(This Web Article is brought forward to highlight the very unfortunate destruction of this Ancient Historic Temple of Tamilian pride built by the greatest Tamil Emperor Rajendra Chola - 1 (A.D.1011-1044), along with an earlier NEWS REPORT which appeared in the "THE HINDU" Web Page dated 12-6-2014 on same).

Renovations of Historic Temples of Tamil Nadu
The granite Temples of Tamil Nadu are being ruined by the "Trustees, and Managing Bodies of these Temples" and negligence of the "Officers of Inthu Arathuranilai Thurai - They with intensions of renovating these temples have applied modern paints both on the interior and exterior of the Temple and on the granite Gopurams (tower over 'entrance gateway' = 'Mun Vaayil')) and granite Vimanams (tower over Sanctum Santorium = 'Karuvarai') - without allowing them to have their serene granite appearence of these Temples, thus completely loosing their Artistic & Aesthetic value.
This type of painting areas of the Temples are also ruining the Epigraphical value of the Inscriptions on the Walls and Pillars and in other areas of these Temples. In the process of renovations, stone slabs with Inscriptions should be preserved in their actual locations and not replaced with new even if they are cracked but be repaired, without replacing them with new granite slabs. Also the cleaning of the structure of these Temples with modern "Sand blasting method" and the other "renovations of the Historic Temples too should be done only under the supervision of expert Archeological Officers" to prevent the defacing of valuable Inscriptions, ancient Paintings and Frescos on them which throws much light on the Tamilian History of Tamil Nadu, and also the beauty and sharpness of the "Beautiful Sculptures" and the valuable "Ancient Paintings" in these Temples.
Contracts for Renovations of Temples should not be given for "unscrulpus Contractors who doesnot have any Artistic & Historic sense of appreciation of these Temples and value them"
Also all Renovations to Ancient Temples should be carried out with the permission of the Tamil Nadu Archaeological Department, and also during the period of Renovations it should be under the direct supervision of trained and competent Archeological Officers.
The Tamil Nadu Goverment and Central Government - Highways Departments, should not destroy the Ancient Historic Temples of Tamil Nadu simply to open New Highways in Tamil Nadu.
What are the "Tamil Nadu Inthu Ara Nilayam" and "Tamil Nadu Archaeological Department" - High Officials doing when Ancient Hindu Temples of "Tamilian Pride" are being dismantled (destroyed ???)

The State government has ensured the protection of 1,000-year old Naganathaswamy temple near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district that was facing demolition a year ago by declaring it a protected monument.
Declared as an ancient monument last September, the Arulmigu Naganathaswamy temple at Manambadi village, Tiruvidai Maruthur taluk, has been declared a protected monument under the Tamil Nadu Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1966.
A government order was passed on May 15, 2014 by the Tourism, Culturem and Religious Endowments Department which has been subsequently notified by the Governor.
“There are over 38,000 temples across the State. And several thousands of the temples are ancient monuments, which are at least 100 years old. The government, the Centre, or the State, can’t protect them all. The status of protected monument is accorded based on specific parameters, including the regional and cultural importance,” said a senior archaeologist.
On May 16, The Hindu carried a report that the temple was facing the threat of demolition for expansion of a road under the Thanjavur–Vikkkiravandi four-way project of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
Following the report, the government had declared it an ancient monument last September which now has been included as one of the 86 monuments spread all over the State protected by the Department of Archaeology.
The historical interest along with the workmanship and the styles the temple depicts, the antique value, the inscriptions and sculptures in it are taken into consideration before declaring it a protected monument, officials say.
