TISk :
I too had the same feeling regarding johnny. When I attended SJ's muscial nite, one of the female singers from the troop started singing 'raa raa' ( the starting music) and since it was a SJ programme, i thought it to be 'kaatrae' from johnny. Somebody who is expert in raagas can divulge more abt it

Both the songs (first line only) follow 'thaanaa thananana thaanaa' santham. Maybe that's what you feel as similar. 'kaatril' melody is clearly more complex..!

To add to RR, their ragas are very different. "Kaatril" is in keeravani while "ra ra" in surya.

`Aapthamitra` celebrates a year!

By Moviebuzz
Tuesday, 08 November , 2005, 19:34

Vishnuvardhana, the superstar of Kannada cinema and director P.Vasu came together to celebrate one year screening of Apthamithra on Sunday evening at Capitol Hotel in Bangalore.
The notable absentee at the function was producer Dwarakish and when one of the audiences stood up and asked why this function is held without Dwarakish, there was no answer from Vishnuvardhana or P.Vasu. Later the person who asked this pertinent question was shown the gate!

“My debut film was in Kannada and now Aapthamitra is my first film to run continuously for a year. I am recognised more here and I am faithful to the people” said an emotional P.Vasu.

Vishnuvardhana said in his speech that “We had decided to have this get-together to express our gratitude and see all the technicians and everyone concerned with this film together”. Producer Rockline Venkatesh, financier Subramani and exhibitor BCS Narayan and his son Arun were felicitated.

Actress Prema, late Soundarya's husband Raghu, Pramila Joshai, Satyajith, music director Gurukiran, Ramesh Aravind, Ramanand, Avinash, producers K.Manju, Govindu technicians who have worked were given two silver tumblers as memento on this occasion.

Actress Bharathi Vishnuvardhana was also present on this occasion. Senior supporting actor Shivaram and Malavika Avinash conducted the two hours long function on Sunday evening.

Chandramukhi's achievements (taken from Rajinifans.com)

1. First movie to complete 100 days in Mayajaal.

2. Doing a business of 100 crores.

3. First movie to be dubbed in Zulu (Lance Klusener's
mother tongue) and Afrikaans (South Africa's main
language)

4. Doing very well in Kerala, a place from where
Chandrmukhi's knot is taken from the movie
Manichitrathazhu, and dislodged Mohanlal's latest
movie.

5. Doing very well in Andra and going to complete 100
days in 10 theaters. Many big Telugu movies including
Chiru's movie was released along with Chandramukhi.
But all bite the dust except Chandramukhi.

6. Generally in US, Indian movies will be screened for
2 weeks that too only one show during weekdays and 4
shows during weekends. But CM was screened for 5 weeks
with 5 shows a day.

8. Rajni's salary for this movie is 20 crores and thus
making him as the highest paid actor in India again.

9. Abirami theater alone will get 1 crore.

10. Vetri theatre in Chrompet, a suburb of Chennai
which is said to have paid Rs 20 Lakhs MG, and
according to trade sources the theatre recovered the
amount in five days and thereby created a new record.
The rumor mill has it that Vetri theatre had collected
Rs 7, 62,000 gross on the first day making it
"unofficially" the highest collection from a single
screen for a day in India! Remember, this can happen
only with a Rajnikanth film!

11. He is the only superstar after the late MGR who
can entice an ordinary movie going public to part with
their hard earned money for three hours of
pure fantasy.

12. After Baba debacle, he silenced all his detractors
inside and outside film industry through CM.

13. Surely Industry will have lucrative year just
because of CM as there is no big budget movie in the
next 7 months (There is no chance of any big
debacle this year). This happened 7 years before on
1998 when 'Padayappa' was release. That is why Tamil
Film Industry is considered as one man industry.

14. Generally Shahrukh Khan (considered as the most
popular Indian actor) movies has done a business of 52
crores with 20 crores as cost of
production (Kal Ho Na Ho and Main Hoon Na). CM, being
a regional movie is doing a business of 100 crores
with 5 crores + Rajni's salary as cost of
production.

15. Overseas rights will be sold for 5 crores for
SRK's movie while for Rajni it went up to 22 crores.

16. But the biggest achievement of CM is bringing
family audiences, female audience who were glued to
their TV sets watching 'Metti Oli' and
children to the theaters.

Why is Rajni still an icon at 56?

By Moviebuzz
Monday, 12 December , 2005, 10:42

The definition of a superstar—Rajnikanth. He is the quintessential superman in real and reel life.
He has bounced back from every setback, and remains the undisputed Baasha at the box-office. Today (Dec 12), Rajnikanth celebrates his 56th birthday with a darshan at the Tirupati temple. Let us take a look at the enduring magic and mystique of the star!

An attempt to put together a dispassionate perspective of Rajnikanth, the biggest star in Tamil cinema, is a difficult job. The villain turned hero, who later became a cult figure, has been around for nearly 30 years; he was ‘numero uno’ for at least 20 of them.

It isn’t just that he has delivered more hits then anybody else; there is much more to the Rajni phenomenon.

He has an incredible combination of both the larger-than-life and the man-on-the-street. Rajni passed the true test of a superstar when people who knew nothing about Tamil cinema recognized him as an icon!

Mention his name and you will see a spark of interest even in countries like Japan or South Africa! The secret of his superstar club? His rapport with millions of people who pay hard earned money to see him on screen. This year, Rajnikanth’s Chandramukhi had the best ever collections for a Tamil film and is rumoured to have crossed the magic figure of Rs 50 crore as distributors’ share!

At the box-office, Rajnikanth is a role model for all wannabe stars in Tamil and other languages. At his age, when most aging stars would have faded away or accepted roles that suit their age, Rajni is still capable of bringing the youth (17-25 years) into cinemas.

Rajni’s reach is phenomenal, cutting across regions, language, cast and creed. His biggest strength has been the women audience and 40-plus generation for whom he is a comfort factor. Remember, this group is cynical of the new breed of young heroes and rising superstars who, they feel, cannot hold a candle to the Thalaivar.

In an age when youth is preferred to experience and the 50-plus are treated as “over the hill”, Rajnikanth shows that old is not always cold, but still gold at the box-office!
