ha haa

mmm i agree, swearing in tamil is unecessary...in any language for that matter...it takes more talent to insult someone without the use of profanities...a possible reason why your thread did not attract responses could be because you wrote tamil as tamizh..i dunno i think its interesting byee!

Idha vidayaa ! :D Jus' kidding.

Language, besides other things, is for communication. Abuse is a necessary form of expression. I can understand what you are trying to say if you are talking about abusive language per se. But I don't get it when you say 'one shouldn't swear in Tamil'.

As far as swearing goes Tamil is pretty well equipped. Even without getting making explicit references one can be quite sharply belittling in Tamil. :twisted:

Hey, I was wondering...how far does the history of tamil swearing go?

Since this is a topic about swearing, I will give you some cuss words in Malayalam:

"mayiru" is a term usually friends use...like in Malayalam a friend will say "poda mayiraeeee" or "poda mayirandi!"

Polayadi---> good for nothing "polayadi monayyy!"

Naayai---> dog, "naayindu monayy!"

Ok, I will stop there, there are more disgusting words....that are also common in Tamil. This is about as far as I'll go! :)

Yeah, in Kerala "mayiru" is the most commonly used curse word, and also "koppu" which can be heard in some movies.

I remember Jayaram in a Malayalam film, he had a feud w/ Vinu Chakravarthy who was also acting in that film, he said to Vinu..."poda koppai!". LOL

What is wrong in swearing in Tamil? If you are angry enough you should feel free to expres yourself in the language which is near and dear to you. Tamil is too great to be belittled by your swearing! Actually someone says that swear words are harmless catharasis for pent up feelings!:hammer:
"Errumai maadu maathiri yosikaathingo"
Sorry not to insult anyone! :2thumbsup:

Appa Nallava, unukku thitta viruppamillanna/mudiyalainna nee thitta vaendaam. But if others are causing 'aggro' what do you think should one do? Poeyya, moonji, yaarum chumma ukkaandhu thittikittu irukkiradhu kidaiyadhu. It is a way of giving a vent to ones anger/frustration. That is all.
