Has anyone got any idea about ARR's 3rd Dimension World Tour. Is it going to be predominantly a hindi show. Has the tour begun elsewhere yet?

Me and my freinds are planning to go, but they are wondering if it is going to be a hindi show? We are Tamilians, nothing against his hindi songs.

The tickets are high priced and decent seats are going for S$150 and the best seats for S$500. Is it going to be worth it? If it is not then I have to bear their grunt!!! Cos I am going to book tickets for all.

The show in singapore Rocked to say the least..

it started with the Singapore DJ introduces the stars of local competition called Vasantham Star one by one (intended to intro 12 of them)...but right after 4 - 5 contestant...the fans got tired and started chanting "We want Rehman...we want rehman"....and so the organizer to just bring all the contestant on to stage and get it done.....then slowly all the perfomers seen on stage...with Sivamani, Attila, Livon and the chorus singers take stage....then came the moment.....ARR! entered the arena with a bang....with purple embroided-arms jacket, brown pants, white t-shirt and brown shoe....he looked like any international star...and straightaway belted the Fanaa song...in hindi....

most of the songs were switched between tamil and hindi just to satisfy all the audiences........but all tamilian was given a special privelege when Hariharan, Chitra and Sadhana Sargam rendered the unplugged version of couple of tamil songs...backed by ARR's piano.....that was magical...and I was simply cursing myself for not bringing a recording device!

Murtaz and Quadir....tried to render Noor Un Ala but spoiled it to the max....it was evident on ARR's face that he got pissed off.....but he kept cool...later....ARR apologized for that problem...and saw the crowd wasn't enjoying for 2 songs...where Udit Narayanan also spoiled the Taal se Taal Mila... To keep the crowd happy...ARR and Blaaze rendered Humma Humma..with some additional rapping by Blaaze...and the whole stadium....were rocking...as the tempo got faster and faster.......wow...ARR rocked...

then we all get to listen to the Pray for me, Brother song where ARR and Blaaze sang together.....it was weird to see ARR rapping couple of versus with Blaaze but it rocked...... to say the least.,,,

I was merely sitting 15 metres away from ARR...and I Was seeing ARR for 2 days...and even now....

WOW.....ARR U THE BEST!

I attended this show in SFO.. It was good..

I liked ARR's opening in the show.. jaagi rahe from Guru.. that was fantastic.

I have recorded the video of select songs in my mobile. Shall upload the same and share with you folks the links.

Just one bad thing was that it was not a full orechestra and they used music tracks for most songs and the who song playback for Mayya Mayya (Guru) with the stage singer just doing a lip sync.

It was very good overall :)

I was thinkin that MADDY, Dinesh, Anand and others should have been there.

India's Elvis set to rock ACC

Arguably the bestselling recording artist in history, A.R. Rahman makes a long-awaited stop in Toronto

A.R. Rahman's loyal contingent of ethnic Japanese fans live in hope that he will one day give a concert in their country.

The groupies follow him everywhere. A dozen of them, waving placards besieging "Please come to Japan," were camped outside hotels where he was staying in San Francisco and Vancouver.

They will doubtless be in Toronto when Rahman lands, along with a troupe of 70 singers and dancers, for a nearly sold-out concert at the Air Canada Centre on Sunday.

His huge fan base is a testament to his status, by some estimates, as the bestselling recording artist in history. With more than 200 million album sales, he's arguably bigger than Elvis or the Beatles.

But in his characteristically humble way, Rahman, who has a degree in Western classical music from Oxford University, explains it this way over the phone from Vancouver: "I'm not a pop artist. Most of my albums are film soundtracks and when the movies become a big hit, so do my songs.

"It used to be before all the downloading started, you could easily sell 20 to 30 million albums in India. I've had about 10 films that went on to become big cult hits, so it's a calculation of that," says the soft-spoken Rahman, 41, adding with a chuckle, "We don't get paid royalties like (in) the U.S. If that were the case, I would be a very rich man."

Further boosting his popularity was the fact that Rahman's films previously were dubbed in three languages: Hindi,Tamil and Telugu. Miami University in Ohio offers a course on his music and last year 150 students there put on a show with Rahman as the chief guest.

To say that his concert here is long-awaited, is an understatement. It was supposed to happen two years ago as part of a world tour that included London, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
The North American leg was postponed due to scheduling conflicts with other projects, namely the theatrical production of Lord of the Rings, for which Rahman wrote the musical score in 2006.

Indeed, Rahman has often collaborated on crossover projects – he composed the music for the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Bombay Dreams, as well for Deepa Mehta's movie trilogy: Earth, Fire and Water. His more recent Bollywood work includes Rang De Basanti and Guru, which had its worldwide premiere here earlier this year.

With more than 75 film scores to his credit, Rahman confesses he is on a mission with his music.

"In these hard times music is really an uplifting shrine where all communities can come together. There's so much turmoil happening in life whether it's religious, political or racial. Music is all about love. It's a unifying force," says the Chennai-based Rahman, who is married with three children.

"Even in India and Pakistan, when Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was there, most of the Indians were listening to him and Pakistanis were listening to Lata Mangeshkar."

Bollywood could not come up with a better storyline than Rahman's true life. Born A.S. Dileep Kumar to a Hindu family in Chennai, India, his father died when he was nine. The family ran a small firm renting out musical instruments. In 1988, after his sister was miraculously cured of a mysterious illness by a Sufi saint, he converted to Islam and changed his name to Allah Rakha Rahman. A devout Muslim who prays five times a day, Rahman says he has never faced a backlash because of his conversion.

"In life, the journey is what's interesting. Everyone has their struggles. Each person gets led into a path. We had some trouble and we got redemption through this path. Religion is a personal thing and I think people respect that."

Rahman was doing jingles for television commercials in 1992 when director Mani Ratnam tapped him to do the score for the movie Roja, which became a massive hit.
Aside from performing his film songs, he has a few surprises in store for fans on Sunday.

"Each concert is slightly different. I go by instinct. Nowadays when you do a concert it's all over the Net ... but you need to keep some mystery to keep the excitement going."

Laughingly, he adds, one thing he definitely won't be doing is dancing.

"I don't dance. You wouldn't want to see me dance. The fans would all ask for their money back."

[tscii:b906d9f01b]Rahman Lights up Sivaji Fire in Chicago
IndiaGlitz [Monday, June 11, 2007]

For the first time in Chicago, the grand maestro and musical prodigy AR Rahman kicked off his three dimensional tour in North America to a jam packed audience over 8000 people of Indian Origin from the Midwest at the Sears Center in Chicago. The concert started at 9pm on Saturday night and ended at midnight. Towards his last song he had the entire Sears Center on its feet.

The three hour concert had various numbers from both Hindi and Tamil hits of AR Rahman’s including 4 songs from his latest yet to be released Sivaji. The crowd was awe struck by the drums of Sivamani, and the rap capability of Blaaze. The music troupe included Hariharan, Sukhinder, Naresh, Vijay Jesudas, Chitra, Madhusree, Sadhana Sargam and Rahman’s sister Rehana.

Rahman introduced a new key board called Continuum which is the first key board that has classical notes.

He infused National Integration by starting songs in Hindi and ending the same song in Tamil that entertained the crowd.

Just woke up from last night's concert. One word: Awesome!

This is probably one of the better concerts I had seen since the Heartrobs 2004. Rahman and his crew were flawless and amazing. The dancers and muscians/chorus get bonus points for giving the songs more feel.

On average, there were more Hindi than Tamil. Here's the list (no order)

Khalbali (RDB Hindi)
Ramta Jogi (Taal Hindi)
Chanan Chanan (Water, Hindi/English)
Rang De Basanti (RDB Hindi)
Kehna Hi Kya/Kannalilae (Bombay Hindi/Tamil)
Roja Jaanemann (Roja Hindi)
Tu Hi Re/Uyire (Bombay Hindi/Tamil)
Chanda Re/Vennilave (Sapney/Minsara Kanavu Hindi/Tamil)
Ghanan Ghanan (Lagaan Hindi)
Vaaji (Sivaji Tamil)
The Boss (Sivaji Tamil)
Sahana (Sivaji Tamil)
Tere Bina (Guru Hindi)
Maya Maya (Guru Hindi)
Kabhi Neem Neem/Sandai Kozhi (Yuva/Aaiyutha Ezhthu Hindi/Tamil)
Roobaroo (RDB Hindi)
Athiradae [The lyrics were understanable compared to the paleness that was the CD] (Sivaji Tamil)
Nelloru Nerajana (Oke Okkadu Telugu)
Chaiyya (Dil Se Hindi)
Thaiyya (Dil Se Hindi)
Dil Se Re (Dil Se Hindi)
Saathiya (Saathiya Hindi)
Paathshala (RDB Hindi)
Ek Onkar (RDB Hindi)
Maa Tujhe Salaam (Hindi)
Secret of Success (Boys Tamil)
Pray for me Brother (English)
Hamma (Bombay Tamil)

*This is all from memory. May be off in final count
Total:
Hindi: 18
Tamil:10
Telugu: 1
English: 2

Honorable Mention goes to Sivamani. Truly a skillful drummer. The only con I had was all these idiots trying to scream "Sivaji Sivaji" during Rahman's speeches. I screamed at those assholes and they shut up. They shut up for the rest of the show.

really sad news :(
Rahman's laptop & compositions go missing!

By Behindwoods News Bureau.

June 20, 2007

Rahman is in London to attend the premier of the Lord of The Rings musical which is one of his most ambitious projects. But unfortunately his mind will certainly not be resting easy as his masterpiece unfolds before an elite audience. His mind will be fully occupied with conveyor belts, uniformed flight attendants and baggage of all sizes and colors; we sympathize with the Maestro for having to undergo such an ordeal. You might be wondering what all this is about.

Well, if you have ever experienced a Trans continental flight at the end of which you find that one of your bags is missing then you might be able to imagine what Rahman is going through. Worse still, if the bag contains not just a few shirts and your other travel necessities but the information worked out over a long period that needs to be presented to one of your very important clients the next day then you surely won't be able to sleep at night, even if you are staying at the most prestigious and luxurious hotel in one of the world's greatest cities.

You might remember that we had reported about Rahman's Esquire 3 Dimensional tour of the United States where some of his best compositions were being showcased in a very unique manner on stage (we had brought out a slide show regarding it). It was in the midst of this tour that Rahman flew down to London to attend the Lord of the Rings premiere. But when he got off his flight at the London airport and collected his baggage he found out to the greatest of his horrors that one of his bags was missing. As it has been hinted earlier this was no ordinary bag. It contained a laptop which had and we hope still has all the information about the unique way in which the music has to be presented at the Esquire tour.

Now we do not exactly know what type of information the laptop contains; only Rahman knows that. But going by his reaction (have you ever heard of Rahman losing his composure) the laptop certainly has some very crucial musical notes, let us assume. The airport authorities have assured Rahman that the luggage will be retrieved at the earliest. With his return to the United States scheduled later this week where he is supposed to complete the rest of the Esquire tour, time is really short for the airline crew for damage control. Otherwise Rahman can (he is unlikely to do it, going by his serene nature) easily sue the airlines for millions; his music is priceless.

We hope that the laptop is recovered soon and all things go as planned. If it ends well, then all will be well. Else, this will not be the last that we hear about the airline and its crew.

YOUR MUSIC IS PRICELESS, HOPE U FIND UR LAPTOP.
