fave of many:

Maya, Lily, Lila/Leyla, Riya, Gaia/Gaya, Nadia, Reena, Aparna/Apna, Amna, Anu, Sheela/Shiela,Nila/Neelu/Nala, Tara, Chiara (Kiara),Melly (Melanie), Renu, Shyla, Vani, Veena, Tanya, Tina, Kira, Mala, Amla, Riza, Rita, Gina, Diya, Sana, Celia/Cecila, Sharmie,

hmm that's all i think of...unique is good...but short is not always trendy and long is not always cumbersome, new/madeup sometimes is just absolutely odd! Please do tell us your choice once you have decided

Anitha,

The way we selected our baby's name was narrow it down to the starting alphabet or the ending (like tha, ra, ya)...

A few names I can suggest

Mrinalini
Harini
Twijavanthi
Supraja
Sanjarika
Saritha
Vinodhini

They are pretty good IMO..
I try not to northern-ize the name too much because it gets difficult for others (particularly grand parents) to pronounce the name.. I remember my friend named their son shashank and his grandma couldnt say that name at all.. Same with the name Yasyasvi..

Your first posting has Isha as desire, and the second post has 'Esha' as desires and pleasures. How is 'Esha' pronounced?
As far as I know, there is not any word 'Esha' in Sanskrit that means desires, or pleasures. All the names ending in 'a' for Durga/ Parvati could be in hindi. In Sanskrit it is not possible to say whether those names ending with 'a' mean Lord Shiva, or Parvati.

How is 'Esha' pronounced?
What is the pronunciation of Esha? Is it Urdu, Hindi, or Sanskrit? We can not find the meaning without that. The best answer is it could be a name based on the urdu word 'aish' which means enjoyment, luxury, pleasure etc. So it may be 'Aisha'.

Hi

Recently I got a baby girl too. We chose a lot of names
from the site http://www.indiaparenting.com/names/index.shtml
and other sites but mostly the link which I have given.

It would be easier if you fixed a criteria, in my case, I wanted
to keep a name which is easily pronounced without any mistakes
by people almost everywhere in the world. Here in Chile and
other Spanish speaking countries for ex, sh is pronounced as ch,
J is pronounced as H in many cases, H just becomes silent,
similarly in Brazil, R becomes H, for Americans, I dont have
to tell you, similarly Chinese too...R is just impossible. We
ourselves are suffering enough from our names being pronouned
wrongly everywhere, so I did not want my baby to have the same
problem. Further, I wanted a Sanskrit type of name too.

Giving a list of names which we had collected before she was
born but not based on the criteria I mentioned. Hope it helps.
Meanings of most of the names are given.

I have a list of boys names too, if anyone wants, I can post it.

And what did you name your daughter,( something that can be easily pronounced by all nationals?)

Hi Niranjana,

We had shortlisted about 20 something names which
were nice and could be pronounced easily by all nationals
My family members in India chose the name from the short
listed list, the name they chose is "Namitha" :)

I have a nice list of names for boys too. If you want I can post

so which name did you choose Anitha?

i think there should be a foundation made for people who had to suffer with weird names...whether it's for the sake of numerology (extra letters, letter less, silent letters) or just weird names in general.... here i always find there is a huge drama surrounding one's middle name...even though most of the time it sounds normal...

True true.

My neice was named "Varsha". She was called that until 3 yrs old.But then, some silly numeralogist told my cousin that it does not go with her d o b and she changed it to Priyanka. There were a lot of legal complications as the birth certificate had to be changed. Now, the poor child herself is confused as to what her name is
