[tscii:2b6e8d38e6]From ARR's interview in This week's Vikatan - Text in Unicode :

This really shows what kind of human being he is... Name one director in IFM who has praised another living MD?None.. Everyone is heard bitching and telling how superior they are from other. But ARR is an expection. He is the person who has high standard and excellent human quality and with no pride. He think Pride is a quality which belongs to Almighty and not to humans. This person has a direct ticket to heaven IMO.

Maddy, I told you in the other forum also, just ignore us (i.e. IR fans). I did the same thing with ARR and after TIS release, because of ARRs speach, I stoped complaining about ARR.

ARR is THE best human among MDs. You need to be abstract and isolated from humanly things to say that the other MD is good. So ARR to me is a GOD. For you he is a music god and for me he is a god among human.

Reg when IR will talk about ARR, IR is very shy (and ppl interpret it as EGO). In TIS release function, he was asked to mention "Maththa cinema paadal pol allamal Thiruvasagaththukku naan copy right vachirukkaen, ithai yaarum copy panna mudiyathu" and you have to look at this face, he was SO EMBARASSED so say this, because he strongly believes that the music that comes out of hims is given by God, so he has no right to "copy right" the songs. In another instance, he was asked to say "I request all corporate to support this album and buy in bulk" again he was so ashamed and you have to see his face while delivering these speaches. So such a person he is, so its very very hard to expect him to talk openly about ARR.

There were so many MDs in that function, but ARR is the only person with whom he talked. Apparently after listening to TIS all MDs started praising TIS and IR and at once IR mentioned with smile to ARR that "Ippa vitta kooda paththu thappa thiruthtuvaen". This is something ARR said in an interview. Why didnt he say that to other MDs, just because IR know that ARR will understand what IR meant, but other MDs wont.

The day that IR and ARR score music together is not too far. That day IR will definitely speak about ARR. Lets keep OUR fingers crossed.

Most people have missed a personal element in this ARR-IR reuinon, because Arr left IR's trope in bad blood.Nobody knows exactly what happened, but I think it left bad impression on ARR, he must have been in his teens when it happened and as he was the breadwinner of his family from an early age, there was financial implications also.
I remember ARR making pointed references to IR when Roja was released,(MR would make even lousy songs popular, kinda of talk, as everbody knows only IR had ever worked with MR)
He's say any KA Key Ki song without any lyrical value is being composed these days .Ref is to singaravelan song.
Later only I released there was some bad feeling with the way he seperated from IR.
NOw, that IR and Arr have reunited, Arr is positively gushing about IR. Did anyone notice that ONe week they have met in 1. yuvan's marriage, 2. Msv-ramamurthi function 3. Tis function.
And it cleared up air somewhat.

i cudnt remember in any interview ARR said such things (prob coz am an ARR Fan :D ) . But i remember IR doing this kinda thing with ARR in the songs he composed during those days. In kolangal one song which goes something like this "kanda kanda tune pottu athai music engirar........". and in poomani also , i remember one song sounding like this.

He has repeated some of the same comments in this interview, like how MDs need not develop bad habits to compose music etc. (But IR hasnt said anything +ve about current MDs. I disagree. Their working styles are opposed. IR is known for his spontaneity and quickness while ARR takes a lot of time to compose even the bgm for a film. Maybe for a charity concert or something they would work together, but I really would be surprised if they do a film project.

[tscii:080749a38e]Today I was watching a program about TIS on SS Music where IR gleefully thanked his grandson Yudhiswar for getting a copy of TIS from him. I actually found it funny.
Maestro will never praise any of the current MDs. The only guy he'll praise is Kamal. I haven't even seen IR praising MSV while I've seen MSV hugging IR few times. Even if IR has praised MSV – the flow is mostly from the other side. That's his attitude and nobody can change him.

Jacky you are wrong on IR not praising MSV. He has done it several times(including the speeches he made in US when he came there regarding TIS) and has attended every felicitation function involving MSV in the last few years. He said whatever fame he has earned he will lay it at MSV's feet in one of the functions. Its just that you have missed it.Apart from MSV, he has also praised several old HFM MDs repeatedly. Of course he also did 3 films with MSV when he was the numero uno. Mella thirandhadhu kadhavu was done in order to help MSV who was in financial trouble at that time.

IR has many times Praised- Naushad, Saleel Choudary, SD Burman, CRamachandra, KVM-MSV Etc., If you people have never read or heard such interviews its not IR"s Fault.
BTW this is the first time ARR has some comments to make upon IR about music while he had many times thanked IR for making him understand that 'vices and creativity are not related'.

Absolutely correct, Vijayr and Rajasaranam...
IR has devoted a whole chapter (if i'm not mistaken) on Naushad in his book "pAlnilA payanangaL"

Unlike us, people like ARR, IR & MR have more important work to do other than praising peers and masters.....

Hey,
I positively swear I read all his comments in now defunct, "Blitz". It was around the time Roja and Gentleman were released.
I feel there is no need to make him so goody goody, I have also mentioned the reasons why I thought there were some bad blood between ARR and IR. Also you must remember he must have been very young in his teens when all this happened, that must have left some impression.
Also, as Rajasaraman, says in some post, I never have seen Arr comment positively on Ir's music till now , thats why I feel some bad blood has been cleared.
Also while KR has badmouthed Arr somewhat, NOt Ysr, Ysr has always maintained that Arr has been his idol.He invited Arr for his marriage. See?
You can also open seperate Topic for the differences bet brothers Kr and Ysr their music, the way Ir has/hasnot influenced them, their marriage-one is arranged the other is love marriage etc. that could be an interesting topic.

Jacky, who are his "peers"? In the 80s there was no one besides him. Rahman is the next generation MD. So IR can only comment on his predecessor or his successor or the next generation MDs. His peers were Shankar-Ganesh, Chandrabose and TR :-) I believe IR has said good things about RDB. But IR has high respect for SDB, Madan Mohan, C Ramachandra, MSV-TKR etc. They are the ones who have influenced him the most.

God u must be kidding... IR kids are as arrogant as he. Not in a single interview, I have seen YSR saying that ARR is fav. he maintained his dad is his inspiration and fav. And for the marriage even Deva had come. It does not mean Deva is his fav.

And Rajasarnam, know ur facts, ARR has always maintained his respect and it was IR who was jeleous of ARR invading his territory. ARR is a gem and always will be. Ask any one and he has not changed a bit only his music keep changing.

Who really cares what one things of another? Is ARR really going to come out and say this and that happenned to me while I was working under this or that person? I doubt it. I mean, so IR's fans might want ARR to praise IR so that they get a high out of it, but the bottom line is, one must be socially conscious. Not many of us here are going to go about saying nasty things about another person. Moreover, ARR is by far a person who would say anything badly about a person to press. It's hard enough to get him to talk to the press as it is, from what I hear:-) Frankly, from the time of his introduction, ARR has said the same things about IR when asked. He mentions his dedication to music and how he stays away from bad habits. I have got plenty of ARR's interviews of the past, even a Bommai mag interview from 1993-94 time, when Uzhavan and Gentleman released. I think, Gentlemen was like his third film. Anyhow, there is no need to prove anything or upload this interview, after all, the argument here itself is coming from someone's conception and not valid facts.

We should be glad that IR and ARR are giving and have given good music, and try enjoying that. Frankly, there is no need for anyone to put IR on top of their head and praise them. Why should they? I think everyone, including YSR, had to show their own work to come up in their field and not b/c of IR. If so, Karthikraja would also have the popularity of YSR.

Alias,
YSR has said in plenty of interviews that he likes ARR, even at the time he was introduced in Aravindan, and that his fav song by ARR is Kadhal Rojave.

recently there was bomings….I don't know what is gonns happen…..wish
that everything goes fine.."

Q: You started in koliwood ( tamil filmdom) and now in
Hollywood….happy but have you forgotten tamil?

A; no! no!....done a song for S.J Surya, I have sung a song that
it says " ararai kodi thamilargalil naanum orun….adiyen tahmilan naan
ungal nanban…" that's really true…even if I wish I cant forget tamil…
can ne one forhet his birth palce?

But what to do I can not do much as I did b4. My mom is also
scolding me " What da you are not doing tamil movies but roaming
around the world "

In hindi field iam a tamil MD, in china iam an Indian, in Hollywood
iam an asian..
Laying a platform for the world to listen tamill music is a good
thing is it not? When you are doing such things we will lose some
other things.

But stil in this tight situation iam doing a ah, godfather and jil
endru oru kadhal

Q: All music director s are religious. Why?

A; There is a hairline difference between being self confident and
over confident . I have faith on my talent. I know that it is given
by the Almighty.
There is a story in sufusm " you can not fill more tea in a glass
that is already full.
But by the grace of god iam trying to keep the glass empty now and
then.

When we start thinking that we have done everything we get saturated…
and can not give ne thing new after that.

There can be only two things in ur mind…one is GOD and the other is
ego. They are like light and darkness. If one is around the other will
go or vanish.

Q: who are the other music directors who have impressed you?

A; If ne ones music impress me the I can not give pure music. But
all good sounds impress me.

Q: have you listend to IRs thiruvasagam?

A: FANTASTIC! He invited all the next generation MD's and conducted
the function…unforgettable incident.

In our country music means only cinema songs! Iam seening
thiruvasgam as an attempt to break the concept.

Every one was praising the symphony…..Raja sir sitting besides me
said with a smile that he will do 100 corrections to the tjiruvasagam

That's the beauty of a creator…he did not think that he has done
everything he thinks that he needs more perfection.
He is working hard…….there was a time when I thought to be a artist
you need to have bad habits…but Raja sir has broken that thought. He
is only able person to do thirivasagam.

Q: ?After vandemataram you are quite?

A: I have a lot of ideas……. I want to do something re;lated with our
culture and civilization…after I finalize I will let you know.

Q: Assess todays tamil music.

A: to tell the truth… I do not get much time to listen music…but I
will listen to FM when traveling in car…. YSR is doing good…. I
also like what vidhya sagar does.

Q: at least do you spare time to your family?

A: Sure. When ever I get free time I like to read books but after
marriage iam spending time with my wife and children. I am unable to
put the same care as my parent s did to me. My children will
sometimes cum to studio…I will say a hi and plunge in to music….!

Some time I will take them to land mark and get them toys and books.
Some times will take them to hotels.. When they grew they must not
complain that I have not done nething to them. So iam taking pictures
and saving it as witness.

My house is the ,most lovable place to me.

Q: What is your quote of life?

A: I have born new today.

Alot of people are upset with the Shankar-Rahman breakup. Have you

big word. I heard Anniyan. Harris Jayaraj has done a good job."

Which music director has influenced you?

"If there is only one music director who has infulenced you then
your music will sound like a copy of his. If you take the good
points from different people and use them with your own talents then
you can create something new. I like all good music."

Harris needs to see & take this advise

What Aruvi says is right.I still remember that YSR actually played the song "Kadhal Rojave" in his piano to the interviewer and said that it is fav. song .More over from his interviews it seems that he admires ARR a lot.

vijay,
I know IR was a monopoly in TFM. I meant his contemporaries in HFM like a LKPL or RDB. I've heard good songs from LKPL in Bobby, Julie etc.
Well if had said good things about RDB my doubt is cleared.
Thanks :-)

Per SPB, Raja in his struggling days in early 1970s was a fan of RDB(when RDB was going thru his best days). Later on the role reversed in 80s. It was RDB who became a big fan of Raja. Whenever SPB use to meet RDB in Mumbai, he use to ask him "how is ellaya"
(he found his name difficult to pronounce).
RDB gave SPB a portrait of SDB to be given to Raja.
Raja, in his music room has that portrait of SDB.

BTW in those days whenever Raja use to go to Mumbai for recording hindi sing, he use to borrow musicians from RDB troop.

It is nice to hear what ARR said about IR and Thiruvasagam.

The other day I was watching swades...and noticed some background music. It was really good. I am one of those IR devotees and even though I enjoyed ARR's music...never paid attention. When I heard some of the background score for Swades...I felt that he is also a very dedicated and hardworking musician and I hope he reaches even greater heights. In the end...is it not a win win situation for all Indians if ARR goes on to the west and becomes popular?. I am a hardcore fan of IR...but I think we should start being positive and all inclusive rather than compare IR and ARR.

I read a post where somebody says that no other MD praised another MD.

I was listentening to some episodes in the BBC Tamil's series on film music...and you can find IR speaking in the context of other MDs and praising them to the hilt. Infact, IR was interviewed for those episodes to throw light on other MDs.

Thanks for the article link Vysar. The good thing about ARR is that he never hesitates to appreciate co-music directors.

His appreciations for HarrisJ's work in anniyan, "Nalla panniyirukkaar", may be it is just diplomatic. OR I guess ARR heard someother CD and thought its Anniyan [minnale?] ;)
