Best gift in my opinion for new home owners is a gift card from Home Depot or Lowes. Whatever is the amount, they'll get to use it within a month of moving.

Hi deepali,

You can also try kohls where u can lot of good household items ..You get lot of non stick sets as well all other stuff required for the kitchen..
After all it is a new home ..Give them something which they will use it.. :D
If you think on those lines ..you can find the right gift..
also get the gift receipt with the purchase..so in case it is a duplication or any other reason..they can return & pick up anything of their choice from that particular store..

I vote for gift card too. They can buy whatever they want, and we have no tension thinking what to buy.

I and some friends are visiting newly-weds this weekend and I'm glad to see this thread from where I can steal an idea or two

You can go for a $50 gift card from any deptmental store, or if they are thrifty, a $50 card from ebay. I guess they already have DVD player which is the favorite pastime of desis abroad.

will check out Lowe and Home Depot, thnx !

Do you get Simon gift cards in your area? They are good and we can use it wherever a visa card is accepted. The cards from the departmental stores or restaurents can only be used in their shops. But Simon gift cards are good everywhere, even for online shopping for websites like Amazon.
Here is the link: http://www.simon.com/giftcard/

To me giving a gift , is some thing that I consider before ;
The Gift to be useful and also reminds me about.

My first choice is for a gift card from homedepot.com or
Lowe's.com , as all new home buyer have a list of comfort upgrades to buy of their choice.
The set draw back on this, these gift cards barely go unnoticed or do remind special about you. It all depend how they spend it.
If they buy a fan for a room - It is useful and reminds you. for sure ! Smile
In case if they buy nuts and bolds ( hard ware accessories ) your gift is unnoticed and does not remind you Sad

My next best option is to go for a gift for kitchen .
Check this web site www.perfectpeninsula.com
for Indian cookware gift sets -
Nirlep Non stick gift sets for $ 30 ~ $50
Also check -
www.mikasa.com they also have nice gift items.
