Hello Friends,

I'am from Bangalore. Now that I have been working for sometime and have settled down in life, I plan to buy a car.
My budjet is between 3.5 to 5 lakhs. we are a family of 5, my parents, me, my wife and my son.
My Main consideration with cars are:-
1) Maintenance costs.
2) Milage.
3) Comfort while travelling long distances especially for the people who sit back.
4) Resale value.

As there are lots of cars available in the market, can you people guide me which car would be the best suited for a family of five.

Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

thanks and regards,

Surya

Well, I think it looks rather ugly (so does its sibling the Scorpio!).....besides its much too big to fit under the category of "Indian" family cars!
I daresay u were thinkin w/ respect to the American idea of a "family car"?

Chappani: For 5 seater family cars, might I suggest u look for the Tata Indigo or Maruti Baleno (both r sedan/saloon cars).......depending on ur budget.......?

Isn't it the size that makes it a family car? :)

What are some Indian car companies?

Tata
Maruthi
Mahindra

Those I know. 8)

I am not an expert on automobiles but i have heard taxi drivers praise Tata Indica (from the choices you have given I think you are looking for small cars).

I feel Maruthi products (Zen and Alto) are the best choice when it comes to mileage and maintanence.

But seeing your budget can I dare suggest the dashing and contemparory Maruthi Swift or Hundai Getz. These two models unlike all other models have been released in India along side the whole world.

Hey you forgot the dear old Hindustan Motors and their Ambassador, the first indian car.

And Tata has bought the ailing Daewoo.

I think the best family car I have seen is Zen. I know because I owned one for five years. Gives mileage of 18 - 20 kms per litre with A/C on in highways. Hardly any maintenance cost. I sold it to buy Hyundai Accent. I truly miss my old car.
Meanwhile I had a Bolero for some time. It is wonderful for mountain terrain. Gives mileage of 12-14 kms litre of diesel. It is a macho car. Not for city.

Are there any Toyota vehicles that fit into your price range? They are very cheap in America, but i'm not sure how much they cost in India(i've heard they cost twice as much as they do here though). Eitherway, based on my experience, Toyota vehicles are extremly reliable, have great milage, tend to be well priced and are of very high quality. In addition to this, tehy are also roomy and safe.

Toyota has good cars also, for an average indian family. But why do I see more Corollas on the streets in India, than Camrys? Is it because of the price? Also when it comes to honda, u never see Civics. I've seen Accords, but I've never seen a Civic. :?
