it's odd because some people will speak of the most nonsense things but all that counts for them is that they get to speak to each other..like buddysathi version

i think you probably have done all this in your conversations?:

-get lost in "futureland" with the planning of wedding, which relatives they think hates them...which kinda means they don't really like them too :P, how many kids, names, where to live, job, future education blah blah blah

- talk about what they did that day, movies, news, some interesting new thing they learned, people they met, people they mutally know, wht to do next time they meet (when they're going to tell daddy/mummy dear or how they almost got caught :P )

-FIGHT, argue, call names, talk about each other's family/friends not so nicely (if you're the guy) remind yourself you better say you are wrong before you get your ear bitten off

seriously if you do think this is what you usually speak of and think it's a waste then maybe you can make the effort to sing, or write poetry so your effort will not seem wasted  :D

I don't know why the creator of this thread stopped with girl/boy friends alone and that too under the title TIME FOR ROMANCE..

Nothing about lover..(Will u do romance with your girl friend only?)

I have lot of friends who are girls. But they are not my lovers..

Definitly, the creator should have been more precise..

Otherwise it will be a confusion between lover and friend..

Nope, Selva ! Girlfriend/boyfriend exclusively means lover , atleast in caucasian way ! They don't use the word lover (I think its only used in India, Sri lanka........).................In a way thats rite too....Friend means both girls & boys ! The word "girlfriend" is not used to refer a "friend who is a girl" !
If the word "girl friend" is used then that means "lover" !....

Funny. Marriage is just made to sound akin to barter system.

U take care of my needs
I take care of urs.... :(

Where doth love reside in these?

Its just made(coerced?) to grow, over a period of time(as we are left with no choice!), by which time, the couple gets too old to enjoy the youthful essense of innocent-love. :?

Even most "needs" in today's scenario r actually materialistic wants & physical desires, wrongly categorised by today's confused society as "needs"! :(

Where doth love reside in these?
I don't even want to try getting an answer to this from today's gen.......altho they r relatively more fluent in English, this word apprently doesn't exist in most of their vocabulary!

by which time, the couple gets too old to enjoy the youthful essense of innocent-love. :?
Actually many a couple of today is far more worried abt getting too old to enjoy the youthful essence of not-so innocent physical satisfaction (= 3 letters)!

Lamby..why so vehement??I am sure there are a lot of couples out here in todays generation who want and accept love for what it is .Couples who love doing simple things like just walking down a road in falling rain under one umbrella or sharing a hot cup of tea on a cold afternoon..or just watching a nice movie together. These are things which are made special because of the person they do these things with. There are a lot of friends I know who either want such things for themselves or treasure their relationship because they have these things.

Shakthiprabha.
15th December 2005, 08:24 PM
I second ssajinika. Not all fall in that category. Love does not mean SEX to many of them. They still value certain things.

There are bad and good things in both these concepts. Somehow I always prefer GETTING TO KNOW bef marrying. (That getting to know can be a weekend time spent, chit-chats, movies, planning out future, sweet nothings, romantic gestures, career talks... JUST ANYTHING, to know othre peson better)

Arranged marriage is marrying a stranger. Does it not sound weird to marry someone, because he works as xyz in abc company, earns xxxx amout, and belongs to xxxx caste?

Some arranged marriages are fortunate enough to see real love over a period of time. I dont deny it. Not all though.

Just blindly having a love marriage, cause of physical attraction is even worse.

A balance should be struck.

I feel, a person should be given an opportunity to GET TO KNOW THE significant othre, before plunging into something WHICH WOULD COST life.

Lamby..why so vehement??I am sure there are a lot of couples out here in todays generation who want and accept love for what it is...
Sorry if I got a bit hot under the collar SS, SP........but today's increasingly materialistic/sensually-oriented lifestyle tat seems to be the "in" thing (also often repeatedly backed up by our sly media as "hot" news!) in our society has made me feel put down lately & made me nearly lose all hope in looking forward to an ideal family life tat I'd wanted in the 1st place (for which sum ppl. had even ridiculed me!) :(
Even come across a few guys who feel the same.....!

Arranged marriage is marrying a stranger. Does it not sound weird to marry someone, because he works as xyz in abc company, earns xxxx amout, and belongs to xxxx caste.
Precisely wat even I feel.......! :(
I jus hate the way they've turned out over the decades.......totally different from wat they originally were created for in the 1st place!

Oh, well......I reckon marrying the right person wud change my opinion (wud luv to be proved wrong in this regard!).....keeping my fingers crossed until then (or atleast trying to!)......

What is the most romantic present given/received by you?

I remember, once I had casually mentioned to my then fiance, I relish mangai-pattani-sundal very much than the normal ones we make at home.

Once before our wedding, When I had gone along with my hus(fiance) to marina beach, I suppose he was lookin out to get me a packet of sundal, but there were no signs of any vendors anywhere near the eye-sight. (I did not even know he was lookin out to buy one)

On faintly hearing a sound somewhere FAR FAR AWAY, he immy got up and ran (in the beach sand!!) to get sundal. I was clueless as to why he excused himself or what he ran for.

5 mins later, panting and puffing he returned with a small packet of sundal. I was all moved and close to tears.

THE BEST ROMANTIC PRESENT I still cherish with fond memories

()

During the first birthday after our marirage my hus got me an ISCON KRISHNA picture, (as I am a krishna devotee) as a surprise. Added with it was a comment "UR Krishna just as naughty as u are". He is basically a quiet, soft spoken person. The Krishna pic, and the words attached along with my fav krishna WAS AGAIN THE BEST PRESENT I got.

I love ROSES as gesture to show care/affection or love.

Long long ago, so long ago, that nobody knows HOW LONG AGO, When I was doing my college first year, there was this person, boy rather, who was a year younger to me(in his 12th std) but still happen to be my good friend.

One fine day, he knocked at the door, with a sheepish look. As our conversation went on, he suddenly, took a single red rose from his pocket (all crushed by then ) and offered to me and said "I just thought I could get this for u".

I was stunned, yet managed to gather my compose and just when I went to take it from him, he got down on his knees, to give me that rose.

That made me really shy, elated kinda felt like a princess in a fairy tale.

THAT WAS also one of the most romantic gifts I received

*************

Thats about receiving, most romantic present GIVEN by me is A CARD, DESGINED and DRAWN by me, with MY OWN POETRY SCRIBLLINGS, just for my better half.

That poor guy, must be having his happy life somewhere. Why bash him? Please spare him.

Whats so shamless about a young boy, giving flowers to another girl, whom he likes, respects or cherishes as a friend OR whatever????

Sandeep
21st December 2005, 03:17 PM
Nothing wrong in giving flowers but to get on knees like a shakespearean character.

Seems very very silly even for a 17 year old.

But well thats just my opinion and the fact that you felt like a princess makes him right. So considering your strong support for him I reduce the number of hammerings :)

But still to get on knees and all, too dramatic

Well he did that and I should say I felt like a princess. :P

May be yeah he did read too much SHAKESPEARE dramas??

I felt it was cute, esp, in those days where such ENGLISH gestures were rare.

Sorry, I like a hasty fool misunderstood ur post to mean, 'ITS TOTALLY WRONG TO give flowers for an unmarried girl acc to tamizh panpaadu.

What is the most romantic present given/received by you?
Given: Umm.....afa I can rem.....none (yet!) :?
Received: Not perhaps the most romantic but poss' the only romantic one I rem.- a love letter, from one o my students for spoken english, very recently!
However, I din't hav similar feelings towards her nor thot it approp. to tell her so plainly (afraid to hurt her) so my answer was ignoring the incident......I guess she got the msg. tho.....!

Aww.............now isn't tat sweet! :D Wud move me to tears too I guess.......! Wondra-full I sayyy! :D

I love ROSES as gesture to show care/affection or love.
Well I do love them too.....but had wanted a wife who wore a rose in her hair (as they did in the '60s/70s when long braided hair was the trend), as I thot tat looked MUCH better than holding it in ur hand.....:)
But more than tat, I love Malligai (I mean the FLOWER, ie, Jasmine!).....I like its frangrance more so wish my wife wud share the same interest & (genuinely) like to wear them in her hair..........*sighhhhhhh*......only 'hope such women don't become obsolete (like my scooter!) by the time I can get married.....:(

Long long ago, so long ago, that nobody knows HOW LONG AGO, When I was doing my college first year,
Are u so old tat u can't even rem. how long ago tat was??!! :P :rotfl: (KIDDING, sorry!! :notworthy: :D)......

Welcome back Lamby.Did you have a nice time in Hyd?

To answer my own post...

My last years b'day was the best ever coz I got the best ever gift from my husband.
My last b'day dawned bright and clear(My b'day is in Nov and theres always chance of rain/snow).It was morning and I was busy getting lunch ready for my husband. My husband is all ready and then came into the kitchen and asked me to get ready. He told me he had a suprise for me and just asked me to get dressed and go and sit in the car.I did as he asked and then we started driving..He wouldnt tell me where we were going..just kept driving.By this time my curiosity was killing me..but I kind of started getting an inkling when we were on the road for about 2 hours. You see I love the mountains. My dream is when I retire I want to get a small cabin /house in one of the hill stations in India and spend my days readin books, watching movies and taking long walks with my husband.
Yes my husband had booked a cabin for the weekend in a remote moutain resort.Since it was off season there werent many people there.Just the permanant residents of the town.He had packed our bags the night before after I went to sleep. The weekend was beautiful and perfect. It was like catching a glimpse of our retired lives.
(In case I forgot to mention..it so happened that my b'day fell on a friday last year)
It was def the most romantic gift I received. :)

Most of the English songs on the album referred to, can be heard on Friday and Saturday nights at a place call "The Capitol".

I highly recommend this place. It's a clean mature crowd that goes there and most are professionals. The mix is also good, from Whites, to Pak to Indian (East and West), few Black and Chinese. The atmosphere is also great and I am sure if you are with your lover, you will have a great time - sole away through the night. I still have some fun with my friends whenever I go there, although never went with anyone special. Here is the website:

I did declare my identity from the outset, didn't I  . Just try to re-collect, that I select all the things I like ...And my God, I have only been there three times, the last of which was on my birthday celebrations last May.

In this way before you know it, the "romance tree" will fall

OK. Terry Gajraj and the Supertones band will be here for Valentines, so I will change my venue :P

Well, sometime me too feel like going and live in "Kailash" and get away from all of this. As my spiritual master often says, "The same things that give us pleasure, give us pain". So what's the point? It's probably best to stay "detached" afterall :( .

God after yesterday having to stay in office late due to extra time on forum, thought I would say away for a while. But looking at your question, there is a bit of guilt not to respond.

I prefer and enjoy male friendships than females (may be this will change after marriage if that is in my planet. If you want to know the reasons for my preference, only ask, I have a long one). There is a variety of situations here, from pure friendship, to him or I wanting something more (I mean something closer), but it just can't be, so we stay friends. Some you speak to ofent, once in a while and for others, a year could pass. They say however, that there is no such thing as pure male/female friendship, there is always something more :P I don't really think so.

Yesterday I posted in the "aging thread", my experience about that "crush" thing and soon after I realized what I did, I deleted it and edited the pevious one. I hope not too many people saw it 8-)

Agree there is always an "element of romantic interest" when it comes to friendship with girls.

The "I" here is that of a woman. Let us see how many men share the same thought. As Bekham says "from the heart".

I prefer male friendship than female friendship, for reasons beyond me to understand, primary being

********I am comfortable with men********

I am I should say rarely comfortable with a woman at first stance. It takes time for me to get closer to her.

Atleast definitely the tag u are married, PUTS A BIG FULLSTOP to any other interest other than pure freindship.

SP,

Common eh, prefer male friendships too :D

Just out of curiousity, were you always like that or it started at certain time in your life? For me, I hanged around only females up to high school, never spoke to boys before that. Interest in male friendships started really in my mid twenties :)

Only answer if you feel comfortable.

Goodsense,

Ive actualy had lots of girls as my friends.
Ive had comparitively little men/boys.

Only till my 5th class I was in co-education. I had lots of friends then.

LAter It was girls school and college
Strictly speaking I had very little male friend from my 5th standard until I finished college. (may be handful.....not more. Mainly neighbours, music class guys etc, sadly MANY WERE SHY to talk ..... ... so I could not get closer)

Given a chance, IN SCHOOL I FEEL I WUOLD HAVE HAD more boys as friends than girls . Since I did not go thro the exp, I cant talk bout it.

During instt days, I found, I am more comfortable iwth men (around 20 years). I had lots of acquaintances, SOME GOOD FRIENDS, ....

As the year went by, It just got confirmed I am comfy with men. I found my husband's friends seriously my very good friends, THAN THEIR WIVES

I found most of my friend's husbands were better off vibing with me than my friends.

May be it has a lot to do with ur attitude.

For example

I hate to shop
I hate to talk on jewellry
I hate to gossip
I am not fond of talkin about cookery etc
I am not happy when they ridicule ppl.

When men talk something other than these, though I MAY NOT BE UPDATED with their knowledge, I FEEL I CAN SIT AND LISTEN. I find that interesting. :)

Also one more important thing is, I CAN TAKE IT, if a man ridicules me, or puts my ego down. I CANNOT TAKE a woman putting me down

Thats the analysis Ive made

Till today it continues that I find men comfortable. (I am comfortable with MEN WHO ARE TALKATIVE, cool, FREE , definitely not shy )

If I find any man SHY  , I rather prefer a female company to that

My list of being apprehensive about females as I mature:

1. They like to compete (who looks better, who dresses better, copyng your hairstyle even and shopping for similar clothes, only that they wouldn't wear it when you are around);

2. try to go out with the same guy they very well know you might be interested in or have even gone out with before;

3. Guy's are better advisors;

4. Gossiping and causing conflicts;

5. Discourage you from your goals out of jealousy ........

6. Find it difficult to confide in a female

Having said that, I always think it's still good to have one or two good female friend, who is like a sister.

Aiyooo....SP, were U talking abt U or ME???!!!... I too fall into the same category...

I found myself being more comfortable with male than female right from my school days... the reasons being(in addition to those given by GS & SP) - most men are open-minded in any discussion ... most women get offended easily & if U don't agree with them on any of their views, they feel that U r against them rather than understanding that it's only their views that U disagree... Once u disagree with their views, they feel that U r bullying them & then the relatonship will never get thicker...

Above all these, I got to learn a lot from my male friends...abt latest technology, the economy, philosophy etc etc... their analysis abt things have always amazed me... Group study with guys has unfolded many different ways to learn things & many different perspectives on any topic... Learning with them has always been fun(not the serious group study tht girls used to do)... Guys have always been ready to teach U things that they know... Most girls r hesitant to teach U those they know for the fear of U becoming as knowledgeable as them... This will be very evident during school & college days...& definitely men are better advisors... emotionally more stable...

Another probable reason for me being comfortable with men is that I grew up in a joint family where I was the only girl child... So had been in the company of boys most of the time...

Reg Becks' bet that there can never be a 'only f'ship' betw' a male female... I've not felt anything more than f'ship with any of my close male friends except for one... I've always admired my friends(male & female) for what they are... But I don't think that admiration(though it can be easily misunderstood) can be called 'more than f'ship'... Anyways, it all depends on ones view on what friendship is & what is 'more than f'ship'...ie., where they have drawn their line betw' f'ship& love...

Beckham,

I beg to differ again...not all humans betw' the age of 16-24 are immature nor are all those above 24 are mature... I'm from Tamil Nadu & I did the whole of my schooling & college in Tamil Nadu & yes, I've seen pairs like what U've mentioned... There r instances where I've personally advised(or infact warned) some girls of their r'ship with boys as I sensed something fishy in the intent of the guys...Most of these girls were from girls school & were excited to get into r'ships with guys(U can call it infactuation or whatever it is) without knowing where to draw the line & guys trying to take advantage of it... But not all guys are like that... I've a handful of good male friends from college & they remain to be my closest even today...

And I've seen girls who've refused to do college assignments(projects) with boys of the same class... I would call it pure stupidity & immaturity... to those girls, anyone who talks to a boy is a bad girl & I was one of the baddest in the class...

Anyways, I belive it all needs good guidance from parents right from the young age... they play a major role in shaping us, in imbibing moral values in us...Parents, inspite of preaching that f'ship betw' a boy & girl is wrong, should teach their kids what is right & wrong in that f'ship... it needn't be thru' oral advices... it can be thru' books, their behaviour etc etc... I have been immensely interested in reading & most of those I learnt were thru books... & the credit goes to my parents who supplied me with the right books at the right time...

My views on that doesn't change either... even in my gang of friends, I was much closer with one guy than with the others... But I didn't get into anything other than f'ship with him... & it continues to be so till today...But it was misunderstood by many to be love & there were fun like my lecturer talking to me abt it... Poor lady... I felt she was much immature than me & I ended up advising her on such r'ships... But then I got my 'aappu' in my internals...
But one such close f'ship has turned into love in our group... So I don't want to generalise... there r chances of it turning into love but not all... definitely not all oppo'-sex f'ships turn into love...

Dev & Shakthi: I am here to support you :) I grew up with boys all along and I never see male-female relationships as a problem! As I mentioned in pp thread, I have lovely male friends and the friendship hasn't developed into anything more than that :)

Probably because I always grew up with boys at home and also because I chose my friends, my friends were people who were comfortable moving with other girls without feeling anything odd.

Another thing is that my family was very openminded about friends coming home anytime, so there was no secrecy or no excitement in meeting guys... I guess that contributed to the fact that I did not fall in love with the first guy I met and spoke to :)

I agree with what beckham says. One to one friendhsip is like balancing on a thin rope. You may tell that the mature person will escape from falling (in love). I say the smart one escapes.
Even if you move with a gang of guys, sure you will find similarity in attitude to one of them. That is when smartness(?!) is required.
First what is love? In my perspective, frienship comes out of liking. Love comes when one tells that out and then commits oneself to him/her for the lifetime. it is just the next stage of friendship.
One of my girl friends used to have many friends. One of the guys starting finding the friendship with her as love and even expressed that to her. They both were from different casts, so initially she hesitated to call her friendship as love, but finally she did. Fate led the guy to get married to somebody else due to family pressure, and my friend was completely broken. Finally she also got married to another guy. Now they don't even talk to eachother though they have to meet frequently.
During her initial romantic days when she told me about her acceptance of that guy's proposal, i told her how courageous she was to follow her heart. Even among my friends, i found some attractions among some of us. Especially when the time of girl/boy search for marriage was going on in our family side. Some of us really felt how nice it would be to get a wife/husband like her/him. We didn't tell that out though sometimes we could sense that. We could see what can happen if we follow our heart and decided to obey the head. Now we feel really safe as we can continue our friendship with our families.
Ideality is always attractive in thoughts. To see that in action, we need to undergo some emotional battles, some people yield to them, some overcome them.

Its been my experience that young guys are more prone to slip up and confuse friendship and love.
**crash** **bang**
now now guys dont get mad at me..I am not saying all guys are like that but from what Ive seen personally I feel that way(when they are young i.e).I did have good male friends but somehow I culdnt be that comfortable with them as I was with my girlfriends.I always felt as though they were misunderstanding the meaning of friendship and any girl was for their picking..if she hadnt tied the "rakhi" atleast.Must make it a point to mention Im talking about my college days.
When I started working I started interacting with guys who were not fresh out of college. Now at this age they seemed to be more acceptable to viewing friendship with women as just that - friendship. This was the time they were looking out for suitable brides, and Ive seen literally the wheels turning in their head as what they want in their wives.Women they consider friends are just that - friends.I made a lot of good male friends once I started working.I got to know their gfs and wives and we still keep in touch :).

Anoushka,

You could be right there - the influence of being around boys from a young age. I grew up with five brothers, close to my age; the one girl came long too long. But boy, they kept an eye on me from speaking to boys at school and that was instilled in me long after I move away from them. Later in life, I wanted to be more around men - perhaps to make up  Don't really know :?:

ssanjinika,

The Rakhi thing was always a good way to get rid of guys you didn't want to get closer. They knew it too  Most of the time they accepted it with a smile :P. I guess such acceptance was more out of respect for culture, though we were misuing culture that went un-noticed  We never lose either, cause they were expected to act like brothers, I mean be there for you. So in effect, we still had/have them around

But that does not mean that boys and girls cannot be friends. Normal friendship can exist, but if they get closer to each other beyond the usual, hormones will take over. ;)

No use blaming anyone - folks, friends, family, society - nature planned it that way.

I am sure you have best friends, where you spend almost all your waking time together - being seen in each others' company all the time. There is a proverb in Malay - like a split betelnut.
Now it this kind of friendship that cannot just remain as one when it involves different sex, is my point.

Some of the posts here simply make me :rotfl: :)

One of my former colleagues and I are very good friends till to date. We used go for breakfast, lunch, and tea together. Sometimes in a group, sometimes just the two of us. The whole department would be traveling in a bus for teambuilding events. Guess who would be sitting next to me?

Yes, the other colleagues would jokingly try to matchmake us right in the presence of us. Then again, it was only that, a joke. Our colleagues are intelligent and mature people. They see through us both. They know us both. I know who I am and so does my friend.

Whenever there is a tiff between my friend and his girlfriend, guess who becomes the panchayat board thalaivee? Yes, it is me, to BOTH of them.

Of course, I had few 'mishaps' with other guy friends, but it is their problem, not mine.

I have a very weird exp to share. I wanted one of my close friend to become my rakhi bro ( 2 of them infact one close one not-so-close)

Both REFUSED OUTRIGHTLY and literally threatened me, NOT TO TIE rakhi. I was a bit sad.

Finally, I gave up thinking, if its just friendship they wanna maintain, WHY PAINT A PIC OF BROTHER-SISTER relationship amidst that

Sadly many dont believe in rakhi bro sis.

Also TO BE RAKHI BRO SIS, IS NOT A JOKE. one need to REALLY REALLY MEAN IT.

.....And Nov i want to add the same point what you have said in a different mode. There should be a limit between a guys and gals friendship. When a guy and gal breaks their limit then they are helpless.Example if that gal started to follow whatever that guy says. Then one fine morning if he is not there then that gal would be looking for him.And if a gal forces something to that guy and that guy accepts it then no way that it can be called as friendship. When that guy started to nod his head for whatever that girl is telling then that guy is in a different plan ;)

WHY, MAY I ASK a girl should FOLLOW everything which a guy says?

What is this in the name of friendship?

Every person is unique and its DUMB to obey any person, without ur own individuality, may it be ur friend, or spouse

I dont think ANY CLOSE FRIENDS do such things

But the point is that some couples spends their time in Coffee pubs,College parks,Telephone and they call them friends!!! They call themselves as friend and they are keep on frying groundnut   in the phone in the nights.I am not very sure that you did these things with your friend?

Whats ur point? If u hang out in cofee pubs or parks U ARE BOUND TO FALL in love ? If they talk hours together on phone they cant be friends?

These kind of friendships can continue even after one gets married. Am reading a stream of yahoogroup msg about a disabled man - who was deserted by his wife for another man. (azhagana ratchasi should know abt this...)

Please! Open your eyes and observe what is going on. Don't be naive and imagine that only the young fall in love! 8-)

what is stopping a husband or a wife to have an intense friendship with an outsider, as long as there is this escape clause available?

Mary Hunt, author of Fierce Tenderness: A Feminist Theology of Friendship (1991), says: "Economic, political, psychological, and other differences between the genders result in the fact that women find it difficult to be friends with men and vice versa."

Do you remember the movie Harry Met Sally?
In the opening scene, as he and Sally are driving together from Chicago to New York, Harry says: "Men and women can't be friends- because the sex part always gets in the way."

This is just to inform Becks that this issue is not restricted to just TN.

Try saying that to AR!

No, I am not saying you cant have friends after marriage. You can, but it cant be as intense as your friendship with someone of your sex.

Famed author, C. S. Lewis says that friendship between a man and a woman is likely to slip over into eros unless either they are physically unattractive to each other, or at least one of them already loves another. If neither of these is the case, friendship is "almost certain" to become eros "sooner or later."

NOV, I don't need a Mary Hunt nor a movie to dictate about friendship to me.

If couples are sensible and matured then no issues but generally in the teen-age or in college days they lack in those.. Understand something? If you are smart no problem but tell me how many people will be like that? You can count the number of pairs (One to One friends) here with that kind of maturity!

Dear, please don't twist and turn my quote.
Adultery does not equate male-female friendship. That is what I said. It is obvious the disabled man's story is not about frienship but adultery. In case you forgot, you highlighted that story here when the case in point was about the possibility of male-female platonic relationship.

When friendship turns sexual, that is no longer a friendship though I am aware there are certain percentage who claim it as so. Let's not get there.

Based on all your postings, I am sure you have your own personal guidelines on what to do and what not to do.

SP, now you are treading dangerous grounds.

Basic moral values, including commitment in marriage, are expected in every part of the world. Most countries have laws pertaining to this.

As for openness as compared to the rest of the countries, it is due to the exposure factor. No use keeping your bird in a cage and proclaiming to the world that the bird will never leave you!

Nov,

I do not have much clue of the kind of life they lead. I am in india from my birth and never left the soil once. My comment were based on general opinion presented or portrayed to few of us who have never left india.

I do know, european countries are strict in breach of marriage contract due to lack of commitment(adhering to laws).

All I talk here is, EVEN if they miss or slip occasionally its not TREATED as severely as it is with us.

I suppose that is true. IF NOT, I AM SORRY, I STAND corrected.

REgarding, keeping the bird in cage,

WHAT one refers to as cage IS THE QUESTION.

The cage here is no longer as it used to be. PPl here do go out, talk, share, spend lot of time together, joke around, even hug friends.

There the limit ENDS. I believe the above said things can be considered as good freindship.

Anything beyond that is not much resorted to between friends. If u consider that, as BEING IN CAGE, I suppose their lies the difference between ppl raised in such customs!

Sridhar/NOV: What do you guys mean by intense friendship?

If talking to someone on a phone for hours together, hanging out together all the time, helping each other, turning to each other for some sincere advice and listening to it is intense then I can tell you that I have both male friends and female friends that are quite intense!

I used to be on the phone to my female friend for hours together (record was 5 hours non stop!), so much so that if I dad calls and the phone is engaged, he would call on the other phone and go "Why don't you call Indu from the other line?" without even waiting for an answer from me! At any opportunity I got I used to go and stay with her, we had similar thoughts, read similar books and liked similar food, in short we were like twins :) If I had shared the same friendship with a male, you mean to say that my hormones would have kicked in and it would have transformed to love?

One of my (male) classmates, who still happens to be a good friend of mine used to sit beside me in class, we used to meet up after class in the local bakery and chat away, and then when we went home we would still call each other and chat for hours together. We never felt our hormones kick in at any stage! Btw, I was not going out with anyone at that stage.... :) And as for listening to what your friend says, I've had this guy sitting with me outside the exam hall, just before the exams and try to get some Basic electronics into my head!!! Thanks to him and his tips, I passed my exam!

Sridhar: What you are talking about is not "Love", it is mere physical attraction!

Shakthiprabha.

iF ive understood it right, they dont say LOVE OR physical RELATIONSHIP.

What they say is, any such FREINDSHIP is absoltuey absent from PLATONIC GROUNDS, in the sense there may be, WILL BE, bound to be, mild romantic or fluttering thoughts. (not exactly crush too...they mean feelings milder than that)

If you ask my honest opnion I would say girls are mature enough to know the difference in general and most men are mature enough, but the problem is we have a massive population and even a small percentage in that is big in numbers.... what Sridhar sees and mentions here is about that small percentage!

When we were in college we had exactly two love stories in the whole college (between four years of Eng students, BS.c, MSc, ME & PolyTechinic) going on and I know that both the couples got married to person they were in love with! Don't tell me that there were no chance for a one to one friendship between a girl and a guy in a college that big....
