தொடர் தோல்விகளால் தனது சென்டிமெண்டை சிறிது மாற்றியிருக்கிறார் பேரரசு. திருப்பாச்சியில் தொடங்கி திருவண்ணாமலை வரை தனது படங்களுக்கு ஊர் பெயர்களாக வைத்தவர், முதல் முறையாக அந்த ட்ரெண்டிலிருந்து மாறி தனது படத்துக்கு முரசு என்று பெயர் வைத்திருக்கிறார்.

திருவண்ணாமலைக்குப் பிறகு பரத்தை வைத்து திருத்தணி என்ற படத்தை தொடங்கயிருப்பதாக பேரரசு அறிவித்து ஆறு மாதமாகிறது. படத்தை தானே தயா*ரிப்பதுடன் இசையும் நானே என ஆர்மோனியப் பெட்டியை வைத்து கம்போஸிங்கும் தொடங்கினார். நடுவில் திருத்தணிக்குப் பதில் திருமங்கலம் என படத்தின் பெயரை மாற்றுவதாக அறிவிப்பு வந்தது.

இதன் நடுவில் விஜய்யின் ஐம்பதாவது படத்தை இயக்குகிறவர்கள் பட்டியலில் பேரரசு*வின் பெயரும் அடிபட்டது. அவரும் திருத்தணியை ஓரம்கட்டி விஜய் படத்துக்காக காத்திருந்தார். ஆனால், சம்பள பேரம் எதிர்பார்ததபடி அமையாததால் மீண்டும் திருத்தணிக்கே திரும்பியிருக்கிறார்.

The latest to join the bandwagon of filmmakers turning hero is A M Jothi Krishna, who wielded the megaphone for movies like 'Unakku 20 Enakku 18' and 'Kedi'.

Son of popular producer A M Rathnam and brother of Ravi Krishna (of '7G Rainbow Colony fame), Jothi Krishna plays the lead role in 'Oo La La La'.

Says the filmmaker-actor, "after 'Kedi', I chose to stay away from films for some time. However a couple of months ago, I penned a script keeping in mind the tastes and preferences of today’s youngsters. When I was looking out for a hero, producer D Kalaiselvam insisted that I should do the lead role. Initially I was hesitant, but people around me gave the courage to go head".

The movie is about friendship shared between a boy and girl in today’s fast moving world. Will they stay as friends or would love blossom between them forms the crux of the movie, he says.

Jothi Krishna, who introduced the likes of Ileana, Shriya Saran and Tammanah in Tamil cinema, has opted for Preethi Bhandari, a new girl from Mumbai to play the female lead.

"Shooting for the movie is on at hectic pace. It is a new experience for me," adds Jothi Krishna.

Nirav Shah To Make His Debut Directorial


Here’s another cinematographer turning into filmmaker now. Ace cameraman Nirav Shah who revived the technological aspects in Indian Cinema is ready to strike with debut directorial. The untitled film will be produced by his close pal actor Aarya under the banner of ‘The Show People’. Aarya has worked with Nirav Shah for various films directed by Vishnuvardhan.

Now, the Nirav Shah’s debut film will have Aarya’s younger brother Sathya (earlier known as Jaheer Khan) in the lead role.

This would be a breezy romantic entertainment and shooting will hit the floors shortly once, Satya completes shooting for ‘Kadhal 2 Kalyanam’…

Multifaceted actor Sathyaraj will be making his debut in Malayalam movies with ‘Aagathan’, which will be shot almost entirely in Ooty. ‘Aagathan’ will also feature Malayalam actor Dileep in an important role. Sathyaraj will appear in the role of retired army general Hareendra Varma in the movie. Zarina Wahab will appear in the female lead opposite Sathyaraj while Charmi will be heroine to Dileep.

When asked about his entry in to Mollywood Sathyaraj said, “When director Kamal narrated the story to me, I fell in love with my character. The highlight would be my scenes with Dileep.”

Interestingly, Sathyaraj had done several Malayalam remakes in the past, like ‘Kadamai Kanniyam Kattupadu’ and ‘Engirundho Vandhan’ among others.

The actor was eager to be in a Malayalam film for long and was frequently called upon for many roles in the past. However is finally doing ‘Aagathan’ to the scripts of Kalavoor Ravikumar. The music is being composed by ace music director and National Award winner, Ouseppachan. Sources say that it is a romantic suspense thriller with a big twist in the end.

Ok, then we can soon see Sathyaraj taking Malayalam tuition…

Move over David Dhawan, Abbas Mastan and other mass directors in Hindi. Today all Bollywood producers are on the look out for Tamil directors who understand “Mass psychology of North Indian audiences.”

The stupendous success of Salman Khan’s Prabhu Deva directed Wanted has created a new awareness about south directors. In the last 10 months, two Hindi movies have created box-office history Aamir Khan’s AR Murgadoss directed Ghajini and Prabhu Deva’s Wanted.

Both these action flicks have made ‘dishum dishum’ movies more popular. Earlier action heroes in Hindi like Akshay Kumar, Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Ajay Devgan, and Bobby Deol were treated with less respect than the deadly Khan’s- Aamir, Salman and King Khan.

Now Murgadoss and Prabhu Deva has brought back the “action hero” and gave them respectability. These films which used to cater to the B & C audiences and played in single screens are now being shown in Multiplexes.

Boney Kapoor, the producer of Wanted made a correct statement when he said: “ Directors from south bred on Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Vijay style mass entertainers understands the pulse of the common audiences. They are able to make technically wonderful entertainers which are slick and stylish to woo the multiplex viewers .”

Prabhu Deva after the mega hit Wanted has half a dozen offers from Bollywood. He is now searching for the right script to make his next film. Says Prabhu: “ I have to get the perfect script where all elements of mass commercial cinema blends beautifully with the larger than life character of the hero. I feel universally action films have great potential.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who started his film career as early as when he was 17-years-old, will be conferred with a ‘Global Achiever Award’ at the All India Film Employees Confederation (AIFEC) meet that is to be held in Chennai from 9 to 11 October.

This was announced by president of Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) V C Guhanathan at a press conference that was held jointly with Nadigar Sangam on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, "Karunanidhi has served the film industry in the capacity of a writer and literary person for the past 70 years. He has penned story and dialogues for more than eighty films. His achievements in politics and services to the society are well known. Hence we want to confer ‘Global Achiever Award’ and honour him on this historical event".

Echoing his views Sarath Kumar, president of Nadigar Sangam said, "It is very apt to bestow this award to Kalaignar whose contribution to film industry is immense".

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan would attend the inaugural day event. For the first time more than 50 music composers from all over the country including Maestros Illayaraja, M S Vishwanathan, Oscar Winner A R Rahman, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Harris Jayaraj, Deva, Patnaik etc will be coming together for a 'Musical Nite' as part of the event.

The Children enjoyed it a lot. Everyone there were Diehard Vijay fans and we were stunned to see very small children singing Vijay song fully.. We too had a very great time with the cute children hope none who attended the Celebration today will forget this day in their life...

In Drawing competition they drew Vijay's House n all which was luking so innocent and cute . Really loved it a lot .

Waiting to visit those kids again soon . They have asked us to take them for Vettaikaaran in theatres with us . We will arrange for the same and plan accordingly soon .

We ONLINE VIJAY FANS spent a day with Orphans and AIDS affected students in and Orphanage called CHILD FAMILY... We conducted many Games, and Distributed prizes for the same.. We also gave some food items, sweets, Juice and Crackers .

Satyam Cinemas Expands Over Thyagaraja Theatres
Post-recession, Satyam Cinemas seems to have backed to top-of-charts under the criterion of Film Business Market. Instantaneously, the theatre group forayed into production of films and indeed plans to expand the territory over other theatres in the city.

Now, the Satyam Cinemas has expanded the territory over Thygaraja Cinemas located at Lattice Bridge Road, Tiruvanmiyur in Chennai. Possibly, this could be the best offer for film buffs in Adyar and Tiruvanmiyur that they can experience the real new experience of Satyam Cinemas with best digital sounds and RDX effects. Apart from renovating the existing theatre, a new cinema hall would be constructed.

The construction works have already commenced and will be completed by April 2010.

தற்போது தயாரிப்பாளராக இருக்கும் உதயநிதி ஸ்டாலின், பலருடைய வற்புறுத்தலின்பேரில் ஹீரோவாக சம்மதித்துள்ளதாக தெரிகிறது.

ஆதவன் படத்தில் நடிப்பில் அறிமுகம் ஆனார் உதயநிதி. அது ஒரு சிறிய காட்சிதான். ஆனாலும், இப்போது உதயநிதியை முழு நீள ஹீரோவாகப் பார்க்க பலரும் ஆசைப்படுகிறார்களாம்.

Now that his Karthi-Tamannah starrer ‘Paiya’ is nearing completion, Lingusamy is getting ready for the next. The hero of the film is none other than Vijay, who is currently acting in ‘Sura’ in the direction of S P Rajakumar.

Says Lingusamy, “I am penning a story for Vijay, which would touch new heights in action genre. Plans are on to make the movie in a grand scale by making use of all latest technical advancements.”

On reports he would direct Chiranjeevi’s son Ramcharan Teja, the filmmaker says, “Yes. I am also planning to direct Ramcharan. His performance in ‘Magadheera’ is simply stunning. I have narrated two stories to him.”

Ask him about ‘Paiya’, he says, “it is a travelogue kind of action adventure. Karthi starts a journey from Bangalore to Mumbai along with Tamannah. The hurdles they face during their trip and they overcome everything is ‘Paiya’ to you.”

Sun buys 'Jaggubhai'

Sun Pictures has made another prize catch. The film production and distribution arm of the Sun TV Network has acquired the release rights of Sarath Kumar starrer 'Jaggubhai', say sources in the know.

If sources are to be believed, the film will hit the screens soon (however after 'Vettaikkaran', whose rights are also with Sun), powered by non-stop promotional activities on channels and publications owned by Sun Network.

"Sarath plays a top Interpol officer, who goes to Australia on a mission. Shriya is his daughter while Goundamani plays a Tamil living in Australia. Most part of the movie was shot in abroad locales and hence, many foreign Tamils have acted," they add.

Music has been scored by Rafee, a former assistant of AR Rahman. Interestingly, it was Rahman who had recommended Rafee, a talented musician.

Radhika Sarath Kumar's home production company Radaan Mediaworks, along with Zee Motion Pictures, has produced this 'high-voltage action flick', directed by K S Ravikumar

Recently, a few scenes, a song and the trailer of the film were screened for a selected few, who simply loved them. The rain song, Adada Mazhaida…, composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and picturised on Karthi and Tamannaah at the Athirapally waterfalls near Chalakudy in Kerala, is said to be stunning.

Tammu, it seems, has never looked so sensuous on screen, and the song is sure to be a chartbuster.

Sun Pictures is all set to release Vettaikaaran on December 18 and news from the production is that the movie has shaped out very well. Three Tamil films at the Dubai Film Fest
November 13, 2009

The sixth Dubai International Film Festival is due to begin on December 9, 2009. The three Tamil films that will be premiered at the festival are Ameer-starrer Yogi, Thamira-directed Rettaisuzhi, and Meera Kathiravan-directed Aval Peyar Tamizharasi.

Rettaisuzhi has ace director K Balachander and Bharathiraja in important roles, while Yogi had director Ameer making his debut as a hero. APT has Jai and Nandagi in lead roles.

Sources say that all the three films are expected to hit the screens soon after the film festival concludes and that means after December 16th.

Prabhu Deva to remake Ghilli with Abhishek?

It is almost confirmed that Prabhu Deva will be doing his next Hindi film with AB Corp, the company of the Bachchans.

The buzz is that it will be a remake of Vijay's Ghilli, which itself was a remake of Mahesh Babu's Okkadu from Telugu.

Prabhu Deva confirmed that he had met Abhishek Bachchan a few days back and narrated the story, which junior Bachchan loved.

He told sify.com: “I did meet Abhishek in Mumbai and narrated the story which he liked. My next film in Hindi will be with him some time in mid 2010, after I complete my Tamil film with Jayam Ravi.”

Right now, Prabhu Deva is in US looking for a heroine for the Tamil film. He will be starting his next untitled film in Paris, with most likely a new face as the heroine.

Vaali crosses 5000 songs!


The ever-youthful legendary lyricist Vaali is surely a man to be celebrated. He has just finished writing his 5000th song for Shankar’s ‘Endhiran’. Whatta massive achievement, we say!

“Little beetle leaf, beetle nut, few papers and a pen this is what I need to start writing a poem,” says the great man naively.

“My childhood passion was to become an artist. There was a popular artist called Maali who was working in Vikatan then. One of my close friends started to call me Vaali after that artist and told me that I would become popular lit the artist,” revealed the poet whose original name is Rangarajan.

It was TMS who invited Vaali to Chennai and cinema. Vaali became a household name when MGR was in his career’s peak. “I penned ‘Machchana’ Pathingala while I was working for ‘Oodum Mehangaley’ and ‘Naan Aanaiyittal’ songs meant for MGR. Same way I gave ‘Chikku Bhukku Rayiley’ for Rahman, then went on to give ‘Thathai Thathai’ for Yuvan,” says the poet with pleasure.

The 78-yr old Youngster’s songs were loved by the people of 4 generations. Yet the man is not outdated, he can still write kinky duets and give lyrics for peppy youthful songs.

Ilayaraja has put an end to those who copy his music in their television shows or remix his old songs.

Those intending to take his music up to the year 2000 in any form have to now pay a licensing fee.

A lot of new director have pinched his music as incidental or synchronization sound in many films including the recent Subramaniapuram and as background songs in Chennai-60028 and Saroja.

Ilayaraja has entered into an agreement with Agi Music, which will now have the exclusive licensing rights for his music up to the year 2000.

If anybody who wants to use Ilayaraja’s musical content in any formats including digital, MP3, ring tones, new media and others will have to get a license from Agi Music or face legal action.

It was another year when music played an important role in the success of a Kollywood film at the box-office. The common belief that a super hit film should have super hit music has once again been proved right in 2009. Here is a list of the top ten songs of the year.

The criteria for selecting sify.com’s top 10 songs are first and foremost the film should have released in a theatre in Tamil Nadu during the calendar year 2009.

It should have been featured in the hit chart of count down shows on FM Radio stations and Tamil Television channels. Only one song the most popular from a film album has been included, though certain albums like Ayan have all hit numbers. Please note songs have been listed as per their popularity with the masses and some real good melodies have been left out.

Finally Airplay has also been taken into consideration which means broadcast monitoring identifying the number of time a popular song is played on radio. You couldn't have missed his ‘Puli Urumudhu' number for Vaettaikkaaran, which is being played regularly in the promos. Ananthu's debut song was for composer Sirpi but the singer had to wait a little over a decade to taste success and recognition. “It's a massive hit and I'm thrilled,” he says. Mahesh Vinayakam has joined him in the song, which has Ananthu as the main singer. “I trust God, and I was confident I would make it one day,” he adds.

Over the years, Ananthu has sung for several composers, including Ilaiyaraja, Vidyasagar, Bharadwaj, Maragadhamani and Imman. But it is Vaettaikkaaran that has made him popular. “I had met Vijay Antony long ago for a project, so when I called him up he was able to place me. ‘Courier me a demo CD and I'll get back,' he told me. I did so, and after a while he asked me to come over. The song was for Karan's new film, Kanagavel Kaaka, after which came Vaettaikkaaran,” he informs.

Srikanth Deva, who was impressed with Ananthu's voice for the song, has already given him a chance to sing in one of his forthcoming films.

Ananthu is also a very well-known face on the light music stage, and has been with M. S. Viswanathan for nearly 12 years now.

“Ananthu has immense talent. He should shine some day,” MSV told me once.

Red Giant Movies acquires ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya’


Gowtham Menon isn’t patently an unorthodox filmmaker with immense knowledge over technical arenas, but makes sure that his film is sold out as well. His previous film ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ was produced by Aascar Ravichandran and later got sold out to Dayanidhi Azhagiri of Cloud Nine Productions. Now, his own production ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya’ has been acquired by Udayanidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies for a record breaking price.

Sources have revealed that the film will be hitting screens on February 19 so as to promote the film via ‘Rahman’ factors after the results of Grammy Awards… At the moment, Gowtham has joined hands with Dayanidhi Azhagiri for the next film starring Ajith Kumar in lead role.

Now, Gowtham can take a cakewalk with good profit much prior to the film’s release….

MSV - Dadasaheb Phalke award kuduthA vaangikkalAm. I know even that is tainted with "kavi pradeep"(for one desa bhakti geetham) ellAm koduthurukkAnga. But I think atleast that will have some meaning as he would be probably the first from South Indian Film Music to get it(Correct?).
Vibhooshans and Vibeeshans are abundant in this country - it wont be enough for MSV. And a Bharat Ratna might be a bridge too far. So, yes, I'd settle for a DSP

A day after the awards were announced, Bala has started work on his new venture Avan Ivan, to be produced by AGS Entertainments and featuring Arya, Vishal and new girl Janani Iyer.

Bala is said to be moving away from his earlier movies which were morbid and melancholic, to a realistic comedy. At the formal press meet to announce the launch Bala did not say anything about the genre of the film, except to say- “there is comedy in the film like my earlier ones.”

The dialogues are written by S Ramakrishnan, camera by his regular Arthur Wilson and music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Ambika and Prabha are the two other actors in the film which will start rolling in Tenkasi and Shenkottah from February 10 and will be completed in two schedules.

When Bala said that he wants to release Avan Ivan in a record eight months time, everybody laughed, as normally his films take at least two years to release. Bala said he is on the lookout for one more heroine for the film.

Vishal who was present for the launch said: “It is the most important film in my career, and my first double hero film. I’m very happy to be a part of a Bala film.”

It's rush hour in Kollywood!!


It is rush hour in Kollywood! 35 Tamil films, big and small, are scheduled to release on five Fridays between today and February 26.

The Tamil film industry has not witnessed such a rush of releases. There are no theatres available in Tamil Nadu to accommodate such a large number of releases. And those films which are getting released are being pushed out after only a week by the ones waiting in the queue!

Says Abirami Ramanathan, “Never before have so many films been lined up for release in a month’s time. There is a mad rush to release the films before March and I would say it is mass suicide as too many films at the same time will kill the market.” Ramanathan says none of the films, even the biggies, are likely to have long runs, and theatres will have to cut down the number of shows for a new release, which will eat into their profits.

Take for example the Pongal release Aayirathil Oruvan, which got a fantastic opening but fell as negative talk affected collections. However, after a few controversial scenes were deleted and the length of the film was reduced, it picked up very well, especially in Chennai city, NSC and Coimbatore areas. And today, with five new films releasing, the number of shows of AO has been reduced to accommodate them. In some small centres, due to acute theatre shortage, it may even be discontinued.

“The splurge in releases is expected to have a chain effect, which will in one way or other affect all releases during the period, including big budget films, which will not be allowed to settle down. The demand for theatres is so huge that in smaller centres, theatre owners are planning to screen four different films on a single screen,” says a leading film mediator and theatre booking agent. Other language films are also finding it difficult to get theatres in Tamil Nadu, with the biggie My Name is Khan not getting many screens outside Chennai.


Everybody wants to release their films before the examination season starts in March. Added to that, IPL 2010 will start on March 12 and end on April 25, and during this period there won’t be any major releases. From May 1, the summer biggies like Vijay’s Sura, Suriya’s Singam and Jayam Ravi’s Thilalangadi are due for release. So, for many producers, it is now or never.

2009 saw a record number of tamil releases-125, the highest in two decades.
On October 30, tamil cinema hit the fastest hundred in its history as the 100th film of 2009, Kanden Kadhalai released. never before has the tamil film industry crossed 100 releases in October alone. A boom in production of small films ensured a record number of releases.

However on the downside it has been a bad year as there has been only one blockbuster (Ayan), two super hits (Nadodigal, Padikkathavan) and several sleeper hits (Siva Manasulla Sakthi, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, Yaavarum Nalam, Eeram, Unnaipol Oruvan, Pasanga, Masilamani Kanthaswamy, MayandiKudambathar, Aadhavan, Kanden Kadhalai).

It clearly means only six out of the 125 films were profitable from tamil nadu theatrical rights alone. the other eight films may have broken even and made a small profit if revenue from other channels - television, Overseas, telugu dubbing or remake rights and Indian domestic rights from theatre screenings (Kerala, Karnataka and Mumbai multiplexes) are taken into consideration.

the remaining 85 per cent films released during the year are nothing worth writing about and many of them may not recover the cost of their prints and publicity.
the reason for the boom in production and large number of releases is that a lot of nRI and local businessmen are getting lured into film production without understanding the economics of filmmaking. the audiences are smart as they are rejecting these films wholesale.

A small film of 2008, Subramaniapuram was made on a budget of Rs 2.75 crore, which went on to make over Rs 14 crore and became a blockbuster. the same director, Sasikumar's next film, Nadodigal cost Rs 7.5 crore and went on to collect Rs 15 crore from theatre screenings.


Similarly, noted director Ameer made his offbeat super hit trendsetter Paruthiveeran with Suriya's brother Karthi as hero, for Rs 3.5 crore in 2007, it went on to do business worth Rs 12 crores. At the same time it took Ameer nearly three years to make and release his next film, Yogi in which he debuted as action hero and cost him Rs 11 crores, but the film has turned out to be one of the biggest flops of the year! As leading producer G Dhananjayan of Moser Baer Entertainments says, "the trend setting directors who made films on a shoe string budget and were successful with their first film, increased their budgets by over 100 percent for their second films overnight and ended up with huge losses. the basic reason for the failure of their films was that they increased stars' salaries, made their films technically savvier with DI, graphics, rich locales for their songs without paying any attention to the script."

Another reason is the blood and gore in tamil cinema. this year, nearly 20 films have got either `A' or `U/A' certificates with cuts. the success of a few films which glorified violence has led to a situation where violence has become a part of the new formula for small films. Like a few years back in telugu, a lot of films were based on `faction feuds of the Rayalseema area,' in tamil now most such films are set in the killing fields of south tamil nadu, mainly Madurai where caste and political rivalry lead to murder. the blood and gore of `made in Madurai movies' has put off many. Renigunta, a film on a group of teens turning into hired killers, which was rejected by the regional Chennai censors got through the revising committee with an `A' certificate. the opening was very good but in most of the theatres, there were hardly any female viewrs.


Meanwhile 2009 also saw the further erosion in superstar ratings in the trade as many of the distributors could not recover the cost at which they purchased the film.
2009 also saw the emergence of Suriya as a superstar, with a terrific opening. His KV Anand directed Ayan is the only blockbuster of the year so far.

Ayan was the third biggest hit in tamil cinema crossing Vijay's Pokiri :banghead: and behind Dasavatharam and Sivaji.

Aadhavan was another masala-thriller by K S Ravikumar, the director of Dasavatharam. While it didn't set the box office on fire, with its star power, good music and promotion it ended up as an above-average grosser cementing Surya's position as a star that sells in the cities and towns. (Please note Vijay's Vettaikaran is not being considered as the film released only on December 18). Among heroines, it was tamannaah who ruled the roost.

Ayan and Padikkathavan made her the new numero uno actress of tamil as all top heroes wanted to sign her. nayanthara lost the race with Sathyam, Aegan and Villu failing at the box office. trisha didn't fare all that well either in Sarvam and Shriya could not create any impact with Kanthasamy.

Kanthaswamy grossed Rs 24 crores in its first week (16 crores from tamil nadu, 2 crores from Kerala Karnataka, 6 crores from telugu) proving that he is still a superstar at the box office. But due to the weak content, the movie fizzled out at box office.

In tamil nadu, producers serious about their business are a handful. the influx of inexperienced newbies, can do little to better the situation. Meanwhile artist remuneration and production costs are only skyrocketing .

Yet nobody seems to be bothered, with most superstars having increased their salaries twofold this year. Curiously enough, there seems to be no dearth of producers hankering after them for dates.

Pretty much every nRI producer worth his million is being lured by the tamil film bug to produce movies; often with any bloke who might be available at the moment.
this of course has resulted in a situation where a new actor is born every Friday, only to be handed out his obit the day after!

Simbu walks out of KV Anand’s Ko!

Silambarasan cut a huge cake and celebrated his 26th birthday (February 3) among his fans at the Devar Kalyana Mandapam in Chennai.

Simbu was tensed as he had made a very crucial decision early in the morning to walk out of KV Anand’s Ko!! Simbu was to fly to China on the night of February 6 along with the rest of the Ko crew to start with a song picurisation for the film.

It seems Simbu and Anand had difference of opinion over the script and heroine of the film Karthika. The actor wanted to replace her as heroine, which Anand refused. The producer AGS Kalpathi Agoharam tried to sort it out but both parties were stubborn.

Finally they shook hands and decided to part amicably without any rancour. Both have decided to keep mum on the issue and refused to speak about it. But Simbu told Sify.com: “ Yes I will not be a part of this film as there were far too many difference of opinion between us right from the beginning. We even did a photo shoot but today I am a relieved man”.

Meanwhile Anand backed by his producer has decided to go ahead with Ko with a new hero and Karthika as heroine. The grapevine has it that Anand has given a narration to Jeeva, who is very happy with the subject and has no issues about Karthika being the heroine. If all goes well, Anand will go ahead with the China shoot as per the schedule.

Meanwhile Simbu has not confirmed if he will be starting his ambitious film Valiban or the Bhoopathy Pandian film first. Adds Simbu: “ I will be doing films for directors like Lingusamy and Venkat Prabhu soon. Right now, I am eagerly waiting for Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya release.

NORWAY FILM FEST CONCLUDES

An exclusive Tamil film fest began in Norway on February 6th. The festival, which concludes today (February 9th), featured thirteen Tamil films. Those that were a part of this film festival were Mayandi Kudumbathar, Peraanmai, Poo, Anjathey, Pokkisham, E, Yogi, Subramaniapuram, Nandhalala, Pasanga, Nadodigal. Two other films Meendum and 1999 were made in Norway and Canada respectively.

The film fest was organized by Moser Baer Dhananjayan, musician Udaya and Vaseegaran Sivalingam. Directors SP Jananathan, Sasi Kumar, Mysskin and Samudrakani took part in this film festival.

Sasikumar has completed the first schedule of the film he is directing after ‘Subramaniapuram’. The team will later be in Bangalore for the second schedule. Third schedule will be in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile we get news of clarification saying the hero of the film is not A L Azhagappan as reported in some media but the real hero is Vaibhav. A L Azhagappan plays an important role here. This film will be a special film for Vaibhav also as he is doing his first film out side Venkat Prabhu campus.

Abhinaya is playing the heroine opposite Vaibhav. Mumbai girl Aparna is being introduced as the second heroine in the film. As usual Sasikumar’s best friend Samuthirakani is doing a major role that of a police officer.

So what is the name of the film? ‘Pudhumai Virumbi’ Sasikumar says he will announce the title of the film only at the audio launch function. Now when is that?

Saying a big no to reports which claimed she wanted to outdo Trisha, the young actress says, “I wasn’t mad to attempt such things. How could I overdo a senior like Trisha? Her performance in ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ was simply superb,”

Adding more, she says, “I did what the director (Gautham Vasudev Menon) wanted me to do. He was very very encouraging. Also, sharing screen space with Naga Chaitanya was a delight since he was very friendly.”

On her background, Samantha says, “Though I am a Telugu-Malayalee, I don’t even know a word of Telugu. We speak Tamil and English at home. As a result, I had great difficulty to mug up the dialogues. But everything went on well and the final result is awesome.”

Known for his village-based roles, Ramarajan took this genre of films to a new height during his times. However, with the changing trend, the actor went into oblivion after sometime.

The star, after being in hibernation, is now back with a bang. Methai will be Ramarajan’s comeback vehicle. The movie, unlike his earlier ventures, will be a city-based subject. Vadivelu will share the screen space with Ramarajan.

Methai is directed by NTG Saravanan, who had apprenticed under director Hari. The movie is produced by Kalaimagal Koodam.

There were teaser ads in newspapers for the past few days, which had nothing but the name ‘Kanimozhi’. The air has been cleared now and it is a forthcoming film of Jai, produced by T Siva of Amma Creations.

To be directed by Sripathi, a former associate of Venkat Prabhu, the movie will have Shazahn Padamsee as heroine. She has acted opposite Ranbir Kapoor in the recent Hindi release ‘Rocket Singh’.

“Swathi of ‘Subramaniapuram’ was earlier set to be the female lead of ‘Kanimozhi’, which is a heroine-oriented story. However, she opted out of the project due to difficulties in allocating dates, following which Shazahn Padamsee has been signed,” sources say.

Satheesh Chakravarthy will score the music, while Chidambaram will wield the camera for ‘Kanimozhi’. “The film will go on floors at a function in Chennai on Thursday in which some big guns of the industry will take part,” sources add.

Sarath Kumar has been advised by doctors to be on rest for three weeks after he was injured on the sets of Kannada film 'Sarathi' on Monday.

According to reports, the actor, who is playing an important role in the Darshan starrer, was shooting near Puducherry for a stunt scene when he was thrown away by a horse. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by the unit members where doctors spotted a fracture on his back.

The president of South Indian Film Artistes Association was later shifted to a Chennai hospital and he was asked to take rest by the doctors. "There is nothing to worry about Sarath's health condition. He will be perfectly alright soon," they reportedly said.

Expressing shock over the incident, producer of 'Sarathi' K C N Chandrasekaran said, "Sarath is a great horse rider. We are clueless how the mishap occurred. He will get well soon and we are hopeful of working with him again after three weeks."

He is one of the fastest growing music directors in Kollywood with everything he touches turning into a chart buster including the ever green Naka Mukka song.

Now the 13-odd film old music director Vijay Antony turns hero with his own production Naan. Will his music take a back seat? Is he taking a huge risk or is it a well thought out move?

In a chat with sify.com, he spills the beans…

Tell us about Naan

It’s a joint production between Vijay Antony Film Corporation and AVR Talkies Pvt ltd. I play the hero, a college student and we have Anuya, Siddharth and Rupa Manjari as other main characters as well. I am also doing the music for the film. It’s a journey of a man and is a thriller without being the usual boy meets girl story.

So you have turned producer, actor and music director in one go with this film. Isnt it a big risk?

I lost my dad at an early age and my mom only could only dream of making me a sub inspector. But I dreamt of coming to Chennai and there I turned sound engineer and from there on tried my hand at music and turned a successful music director.

I am not from a big financial background but got till here only through sheer hard work. I believe if you do anything sincerely you will succeed.

So, I will take the risk. I don’t need to be afraid. One should try everything in life but do it sincerely.

How did you think of acting?

Actually I had been getting offers to act earlier but never took it up. Then one day Jeeva Shankar, who had been assistant cameraman to late Jeeva told me this story. He and I have been classmates from our Visual communication days. I liked it and thought of shooting it straightaway. He debuts as director with my film. But it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Santra Media’s Venkatramani and AVR Talkies' Murli Raman.

It’s a joint venture and their complete production support is a big help.

So will you give up music direction?

Not at all. Music is a feeling, a state of mind for me. I can compose even in three minutes or three days. It depends. So between shots instead of wasting time I will still be doing my music. I am doing it for this film too and it’s a sure shot hit.

How confident are you about your move?

Very confident. You see a cameraman is directing so the visual clarity will be there. Twenty days of shoot are over and we plan to finish in five months or so. It’s a team work between close friends so the atmosphere is condusive to success.

Did you take up any acting classes?

No. it’s a realistic film and I don’t need to prepare. I am just doing my role with confidence and sincerity. If you act in a realistic manner without over acting I think its enough.

Eraa, a horror flick made in the digital format, has now been rechristened Orr Iravu. Cinema lovers will recall that this was the title of the 1954 thriller and cult classic starring the late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, C.N. Annadurai.
The second Orr Iravu is an attempt to break the mould by its makers Hari Shankar, Hareesh Narayan and Krishna Sekhar. It has no hero or heroine and the story is narrated from the camera’s point of view. This novel celluloid product has been produced by Hari Shankar on behalf of Shankar Brothers.
Why the name change? “The entire story unfolds in one night and we shot it using a new technique called View-point which enables the viewers to experience the film as though they are also a part of the flick. Taking all that into account, we thought Orr Iravu (One Night) was an apt title,” said Hari.
It was Kalaipuli S. Dhanu who was instrumental in getting the name from the original producers, so now the horror film will be released with the new title.

When you sign Rahman, you are almost ensured of a certain amount of cassette/CD sales brining in a certain value already. Over and above that, Rahman fans ensure an opening to the movie. (which is where Ajith still probably earns more than the likes of Surya/Vikram because obviously, he ensures a great opening - his salary is a recognition of the fact that he brings in earning potential to the movie all by himself)

Am I to believe that what Simbu brings to the table in terms of commercial success is more than Rahman's? Because only such a perception can lead to such valuation(ofcourse assuming these numbers are correct).

Needless to say, I refuse to believe that. Any day, what my movie earns because of Rahman would be greater than what it does because of Simbu - that's what I believe. I mean, are there even die-hard Simbu fans?

Agree to this point completely. The common movie goer though wants to see stars and that is where people like Simbu score. B & C centers would prefer his style of movies rather than a GM or Manis movie.

I think you have got it wrong here.. The profit due the film is much higher when compared to audio sales. Infact the latter forms a part of the former. The profit earned by Vallavan would have been much higher than the audio revenue of Sakkarakatti. Because the producer earns money due to the theatrical run which includes FMS, satellite rights, audio rights, DVD rights.

The film produced by Madan Gabriel is trying to get some financial assistance from the Tamil Nadu government who is looking into it. The release date of Maa has been announced as May 14.
