Fans of Ilayaraaja : Exciting times are here!!

Music Maestro Ilayaraaja has released a new compilation of devotianal songs called Guru Ramana Geetam which is now available in the market. This devotional album was awaited long by Ilayaraaja's fans, especially after his earlier wonderful private album, Raaja-vin Ramana maalai (apart from the very popular Ilayaraja's Geethanjali). Fans are in for a feast as Ilayaraaja writes, scores and sings unbounded by any filmy restraints.

Of all the pilgrimages that Ilayaraja periodically undertakes, the most frequent one is to Thiruvannamalai where Ramana Maharishi, the Sage of Arunachala lived. It is well known that he visits Ramanasram every pournami (day of the full moon), to meditate and find peace. Ramana’s teachings have undoubtedly proved to be the strongest source of comfort and inspiration for him. In this anthology of hymns and prayers, Ilayaraja expresses both his anguish at being shackled to the material world and his steadfast faith in the power of Ramana to free and redeem him.

Ilayaraja's Guru Ramana Geetam is a must-have for every fan and is distributed by Agi Music Malaysia (http://www.agimusic.com). Please encourage every fan of Ilayaraaja to only buy original CDs and Cassettes as true to his form, 65% of the proceeds from this album will go to Sri Ramanasramam. The CD comes with a 12-page booklet containing the complete lyrics of songs in tamil, synopsis of each song in English and a short biography on Sri Ramana Maharishi.

All songs, including those in Sanskrit, has been written, composed, arranged and produced by Ilayaraja. He has also sung all songs except two which have been sung by renown classical singers, Bombay Jaysree and Unnikrishnan.

Illayaraja honours Ramana

Dec 31:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Agi Music Sdn Bhd, a local production house with extensive contacts in India’s music industry, has launched its first Tamil album – ‘Guru Ramana Geetam’, a devotional effort by music maestro Ilayaraja.

Ilayaraja, a prolific composer with 850 albums to his credit, has not only written and scored the music – he also sang eight of the 10 tracks. Renowned classical singers, Bombay Jayshree and Unnikrishnan performed the other two songs. Ilayaraja – a devotee of Ramana Maharishi, the sage of Arunachala of Sri Ramanasramam – has devoted the entire album in praise of the sage. In this anthology of hymns and prayers, Ilayaraja expressed his anguish at being shackled to the material world, and his steadfast faith in Ramana to free him.

Agi Music Marketing Manager Rasi Ramalingam said: "It's an honour for Ilayaraja fans in Malaysia that he has appointed a Malaysian company to handle the distribution in Malaysia, Singapore and India.'' She hopes fans of Ilayaraja, and Tamil music in general, will support the album by buying original CDs and cassettes.

Sixty five per cent of the album's proceeds will go to Sri Ramanasramam. The CD comes with a 12-page booklet containing lyrics of all the songs, a synopsis of each song in English and a short biography on Sri Ramana Maharishi.

The album will be distributed in Malaysia by Veenai Holdings, a leading VCD distributor here. It's now available at all stores.

For inquiries, write to info@agimusic.com or call 017-3954919 (Ms Rasi)/ 03-74900585 (Veenai Holdings).

For those who are in Malaysia and others who will be making their annual pilgrimage to Batu Caves for the thaipoosam festival, please take note that this album is available at a stall selling exclusively GRM.

Keep going from the entrance towards the 272 steps and just before the Vinayagar temple, take the lane on the left (where digital tones and laxmi aromas stalls are). Keep on walking till you come to the audio/video stalls. You can't miss the stall as there will be a huge billboard of Ilayaraja in contemplating mood. Altho the sweet soft songs of GRG will be lost amidst the loud, pop songs blaring out from the other huge speakers, you cannot miss the GRG stall.

As promised, 65% of the sales will go to the ashram.

Jaiganes,

I hear this album atleast once a week. As you say simple and soulful. In albums like this one, Manikantan Geeta Mala and Ramana Malai, Illayaraja, the orchestration genius is pushed to the back and tunes come upfront. He is able to impart a great sense of peace through many songs in these albums.
