With the release of three albums 'Veyil' 'Sivapathigaram' and 'Paruthiveeran' which contains excellent renditions of the folk songs...Will this mark the return of Folk songs genre in TFM which were ruling the period from late 70's and till the beginnning of 90's.
The songs of these albums are more identifiable with the rural folk of south Thamizhnaadu whose musical tastes were never given a fair share till the advent of IR in the 70's. He probably explored the nook and corner of the people's music in his film songs and delivered them over a exhaustive list of nos. Now that he is not in limelight anymore, the entire genre was lost, to the new composers, composing only dappankuthu nos. that IR perfected with the fusing of WCM and other genres. The earthly natural music of the people got lost in this milieu.
Though there were nos. like karumaathur kaatukkelle (Virumaandi-IR) and 'Kodi Yethi Vaipom' (pithamgan-IR) 'Aakaati' (Thavamaai Thavamirunthu-SM) they were spaced so apart that they never generated an interest in the public.
Now that there are these three albums released back to back and the movies scheduled to be released not spaced widely, Will it stir the peoples interest and make them like the folk genre once again and make it flourish once again in TFM?

RS,

I doubt the genre will flourish again. This is just a flash. When IR ruled the tfm, there were directors and actors who churned out village type movies one after another without even thinking about storylines. The directors/actors of above said movies will go for urban based themes very soon.

wow, Veyil is winning the poll...

RS, seriously, i dont know.....if ppl. like it, they would lap it up.......also there is a sea of difference betn the IR's folk songs and these guys' folk songs.......IR cleverly used to fuse it with WCM which kept even urban ppl. like us intereseted...... can these guys also do it??? heard all these folk songs, hmmmm not my cup of tea boss....... :D .........
