[tscii:66fd0fc7d9]DATABASE FOR MP3 SONGS COLLECTION CONCEPT:

I love old and new Tamil film songs & enjoy collecting like many people. When I was collecting little by little, once I wanted to know the total number of songs, to see how much percentage I have collected so far. Then I became little crazy in my collection concept.

Now I wanted to collect all the available Tamil film MP3 songs from 1931 to 2007 and put the whole collection into my pocket (near my heart), so that I can always listen all of them, as if from a radio station of my own.

You know it is a surprise and that is really possible to do it. My dream can come true with the latest technology. I am in the process of doing so & I will tell you the method of doing it. You can correct me wherever possible to simplify the process. First get the general idea of this project work. When I was collecting all these information from different sources, I found lot of interesting things to share with you all, so that it will be useful for people who are all of same interest.

Number of Tamil movies released in each year:
(From my Movie List collected so far....)
1931(1) Kalidass, 1932(6), 1933(6), 1934(15), 1935(34), 1936(45), 1937(45), 1938(43), 1939(35), 1940(57), 1941(40), 1942(27), 1943(16), 1944(10), 1945(12), 1946(14), 1947(31), 1948(41), 1949(18), 1950(11), 1951(24), 1952(31), 1953(38), 1954(30), 1955(35), 1956(33), 1957(29), 1958(37), 1959(58), 1960(56), 1961(33), 1962(49), 1963(48), 1964(36), 1965(44), 1966(43), 1967(48), 1968(48), 1969(46), 1970(47), 1971(49), 1972(55), 1973(54), 1974(61), 1975(60), 1976(61), 1977(64), 1978(90), 1979(102), 1980(111), 1981(107), 1982(112), 1983(95), 1984(117), 1985(118), 1986(104), 1987(99), 1988(93), 1989(95), 1990(14), 1991(14), 1992(15), 1993(13), 1994(13), 1995(9), 1996(14), 1997(10), 1998(8), 1999(25), 2000(55), 2001(56), 2002(111), 2003(74), 2004(77), 2005(111), 2006(105), 2007(105).

So, we have app. 3750 Tamil movies released so far. If you list 4 or 5 songs per movie at an average, it will be approximately 18000 songs. IPOD are available up to 160GB to store up to 40000 songs. So it is possible to store all the songs in an IPOD and keep it with you. Even you can use the remaining space to store video clips of the song, other language songs or devotional songs.

But we cannot listen all the songs. Even if we have all the songs we will skip many songs & go to hit songs. Because lot of hit songs are there which we can listen days together. So, It is better to have lesser storage capacity IPODs to store only HIT songs, depend on your interest, requirement and budget.

So we all need a list of hit songs of each singer, which is not available in internet or anywhere else. So I have started colleting & posting maximum number of songs for each singer & Highlighting Hit songs in Bold letters. So far I have posted the list for A.L.Ragavan, A.M.Raja, P.B.Srinivas in their respective thread as well as in Hub WIKI singers page. Now tfmpage users can help in identifying hit songs to complete the task.

You all know that, first audio movie Kalidass was released in 1931. From 1932 the number of movies released increased from 6 to 100 per year. Nowadays more than 100 movies are released per year (one movie for every 3 or 4 days).

IPODs:
1GB 240 songs US $79,
2GB 500 songs,
4GB 1000 songs US $149,
8GB 2000 songs US $199,
30GB 7500 songs,
80GB 20000 songs US $249,
160GB 40000 songs US $349

1) Tamil Movies and songs List:
When I started collecting, I wanted to have the full songs list of all movies or all singers, so that I can always refer how much still to be collected. Since the full list is not available from anywhere, I decided to collect the list by myself. Most of the Web sites listing songs what they have. Some websites telling they are covering all the singers, but namesake listing only 5 or 10 songs for some famous old singers like A.M.Raja or PBS. Many famous websites are listing the same song for two movies & giving wrong information, showing as if they have more songs in their database with lot of errors & different spellings.

I have started this exercise and listed 15000 song names so far from different sources. The available app. 8500 MP3 songs may be only popular hit songs (or) people are slowly converting into MP3 format. I have listed them in an editable Microsoft Excel file with 1) Year, 2) Movie Name, 3) Song Name, 4) Singer names, 5) Music Director 6) Song Star rating information. You can sort the list as, year wise, or Movie name wise or Songs name wise etc. in an alphabetical order or as combination at any time. You can also use find function for any word from the list.

To complete the list & make it perfect, this Data base can be published in tfmpage.com similar to http://psusheela.org/tam/list.php(reference), we can also have provision for viewers to add or edit errors through expert’s acceptance. Viewers can also email the missing information. If the database is continuously updated with viewers help, then everybody can have a perfect database from www.tfmpage.com So I wanted to open this NEW TOPIC: “Data base for MP3 songs collection concept.”

This is also inline with the views and solution for Mr.Manisekaran’s comments about….. famous people giving wrong information…., Fans are duped! Many radio stations announce the songs and give credit to the wrong persons. Listeners are certain to be influenced by the radio announcers who are accepted as some kind of authority…...”

Imagine if somebody wanted to have the perfect list of hit songs (5 star rating & 4 star rating) of all the singers, they should be able to find only in this tfmpage database. Once you have this, then lot of simple question & answers like who is the MD, which movie etc. etc. can be avoided in the discussion forum. We can also add Lyrics, Comments in the database or add link, so that we can see all the comments about a song in one place.

If viewers are interested in this topic, then I can write some more & share my remaining experience. Sorry, if I am wrong in some of my statements. Please reply to me, so that I can correct my posting at the earliest. My email ID:palcanada@ hotmail.com.
Thank you.

PAL,

We also have been working a database of Tamil films and songs (not just mp3). Not as a traditional database, but in the form of a wiki. See

Are you interested in exporting your excel database to this format?

You all know that, first audio movie Kalidass was released in 1931. From 1932 to 1979, the number of movies released increased from 6 to 100 per year. But I don’t know why very less number of movies are released from 1990 to 1998 (less than 20 movies per year-why?). Nowadays more than 100 movies are released per year (one movie for every 3 or 4 days).

There must be some mistake io your database because Raaja has scored over 63 movies in the year 1992. even if we consider only tamil he would have scored atleast 30-40 movies. :)
And iam sure 90's were a prosperous time for tamil movies and there can never be such a sudden dip. [/tscii:4f0c5c5daa]

Hello Rajasaranam

Thank you for your response. You are correct. I have deleted that particular statement in my posting. My Movie listing & Song listing are not completed in all respect. That is why I wrote,

.....Since the full list is not available from anywhere, I desided to collect the list by myself........I have started this exercise and listed 15000 MP3 song names so far from different sources.....To complete the list & make it perfect, this database can be published in tfmpage.com.....Viewers can email the missing information. If the database is continously updated with viewers help, then everybody can have a perfect database from tfmpage.com

Before collecting the songs list, I wanted to collect the Movie list, thinking as a simple job. Since many websites listing only songs available with them, with movie names information, it became difficult job & started taking lot of time. Very few leading websites are listing only movie names & year information. It is also very difficult to compare different sources and delete same movie name, due to different spelling used by them. Still I have collected the Movie list and stored the information in an editable excel format. Since it is not possible to do the perfect job by a single person, I have requested the same at tfmpage & viewers help to form the database, and make it perfect to the maximum possible extent.
Thank you
