[tscii:4298beec90]Ashwariya Rai’s commitment to Robot came in for some heavy discussion yesterday. Nearly all sections of the media had recently carried reports of Ash being offered the female lead role in Robot for an astounding sum, making her the top paid actress in the entire country. But only yesterday reports were floating around of Ash pulling out of the

Aishwarya Rai
movie, citing her pregnancy as a reason. Robot, a 24 month project, was too long a time for her to be away from home, seemed to be the implication.

Dispelling these reports strongly, Ash today said that she is committed to Robot; that she admires Shankar for always being a step ahead of any other filmmaker when it came to making cutting edge techno savvy movies. Excited about working with Rajinikanth, she had nothing but praise for him. Rajini is an institution personified, she added, and she would never miss out on an opportunity to work with him.

And here’s further proof of Ash’s commitment to the film industry: The actress, along with her husband Abhishek Bachchan, will star in one more Mani Ratnam film. And no! This is not a Tamil film but Hindi.[/tscii:4298beec90]

Abhishek, Aishwarya to star in Mani Ratnam's next

IndiaFM
Wednesday, 20 February , 2008, 10:07

It had to happen. After Guru, the movie-making maverick, Mani Ratnam, was bound to return to his favourite actor. It comes as no surprise to know Abhishek Bachchan and Mani Ratnam will team up again for their third film together.

Red Hot: Hrithik, Ash create magic in Jodhaa Akbar

After the terrific tuning that they shared during Yuva (which Abhishek describes as his career's first turning-point) and Guru (which he acknowledges as his second turning-point), it doesn't require much calculation to see the creative and commercial viability of the Mani-Abhishek pair.

Films that redefined love

Coming out of his bereavement, Mani Ratnam is all set to announce a supple romantic film featuring filmdom's foremost marital pair. Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will come together in Mani Ratnam's film that starts shooting in September.

First look: Bollywood couples we absolutely love

According to a source very close to the project, "It's going to be a very intense love story. Where Guru was more a bio-pic with a cavalcade of characters claiming screen space, this film will focus primarily on the romance. It's a very intense film. Mani's most romantic film to date. And yes, it's again based on real life characters."

Tamil star Vikram is in luck. He's cast opposite Aishwarya Rai in Mani Ratnam's next. (No, Abhishek will not be romancing Ash, he'll have other work to do)

Vikram is betaab

Tamil superstar Vikram (of Aparichit fame) is all set to make his Bollywood debut with Mani Ratnam's next, starring Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan.

Vikram, one of the biggest stars in the Tamil film industry hit big time with his film Sethu which was re-made in Hindi as Tere Naam.

He has several Tamil hits to his credit - Dhill, Gemini, Pithamagan, Dhool, Saamy and Anniyan which was dubbed in Hindi and renamed Aparichit.

Our source in the industry says, "Vikram always wanted to work with Mani Sir and they had discussed the possibility of working together on many occasions, but their plans never materialised.

After Guru, Mani Sir is now working on a contemporary intense drama which also has romance as its integral part.

He thought it would be a good idea to cast Vikram opposite Aishwarya Rai and called Vikram for a narration. Mani Sir signed him on a few days ago."

The source further says, "Vikram is excited about working in a Hindi film, that too with Aishwarya Rai. He understands that this is the best Bollywood launch for him."

The film goes on the floors in September.

[tscii:657ff0a220]Money money Mani

Kollywood is abuzz with news that ace director Mani Ratnam has signed the biggest ever deal in the history of south Indian cinema, to do a three-version film in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

His production company Madras Talkies is supposed to be in the final lap of negotiating a whopping Rs 120 crore deal with the Anil Ambani run Reliance Entertainment Big Picture, for all negative rights for three languages. Industry pundits say that if the deal takes place, it will be the biggest for a south Indian film producer and director.

Mani Sir, as he is known in Kollywood, has been quietly working on the script of this film since the release of his super hit Guru in January 2007. The elusive director, who never gives interviews, has been keeping a low profile after the demise of his younger brother G Sreenivasan, the moving spirit behind Madras Talkies.

The Hindi version will feature Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Govinda in a negative role. Confirming that he has signed up for the movie, Govinda told TNN: “I am actually doing a film with Mani Sir. Isn’t it every actor’s dream to work with him? We met recently and I heard about my role, which interested me a lot. It is an intense film and my role will definitely surprise the audiences.” Abhishek, who scored his first solo super hit with Guru, is all excited about this new untitled film, for which he has given bulk dates.

The Tamil and Telugu version will have Vikram doing Abhishek’s role while Aishwarya Rai will be the common heroine for all the three versions. It is going to be a tight rope walk for Ash as she has to juggle her dates with Shankar’s Rajinikanth-starrer Robot during the same period. The role to be performed by Govinda will be essayed by Pritviraj, who started his career in Tamil in a villain’s role in Kana Kandein. The supporting cast of actors would be different in each language. The film will start rolling in Karaikudi from September 10, and will also be shot in the forests of Madhya Pradesh.

In a way, Mani Ratnam will be going back to his roots. He is teaming up with his photographer from his early films PC Sreeram, the wizard of lighting in Indian cinema and the godfather to many well-known cinematographers. Mani’s ‘discovery’ A R Rahman will be composing songs for this film. Mani was unavailable for comment while the Reliance Entertainment Big Picture spokesman in Chennai refused to talk about the deal

India's best known director Mani Ratnam and his Madras Talkies has signed a record Rs 120 crore deal with the Anil Ambani run Reliance Entertainment Big Picture, for his new untitled film in three languages- Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Mani sir as he is affectionately known in Kollywood has been quietly working on the script of this film, since the release of his super hit Guru in January 2007.

The Hindi version will feature Abhishek Bachchan- Aishwarya Rai and Govinda in a negative role. The Tamil and Telugu version will have Vikram doing Abhishek’s role while Aishwarya Rai will be the common heroine for all the three versions. It is going to be a tight rope walk for her as she has to juggle her dates with Shankar's Rajinikanth extravaganza 'Robot', during the same period.

And the role being done by Govinda would be essayed by Pritviraj, who actually started his career in Tamil in a villain's role in Kana Kandein. There are rumours that Karthik who last worked with Mani in Agninakshthram, will also be roped in to play an important role. Priya Mani too will be playing a role in the film which will start rolling in Karaikudi from September 10, and will also be shot in the forests of Madhya Pradesh.

Mani's all time favourite and his 'discovery' A.R Rahman will be composing songs for this film which has now become one of the hottest projects in the country. Ace cameraman Manikandan who is now shooting for Priyadarsan's Biloo Barber in Pollachi will be the cameraman.

Mani sir as usual was unavailable for comment and Reliance Entertainment Big Picture spokesman in Chennai too refused to talk about the deal.

Meltdown hits Mani?

By Moviebuzz | Friday, 21 November , 2008, 11:28

Reliance Big Pictures (RBP), which has struck deals with Hollywood studios was said to be making four films in Tamil- Mani Ratnam's bi-lingual Ravana in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Cheran's Autograph- 2, Hari directed Surya's Singam to be produced by Studio Green, and a Fazil film with Pritviraj.

Due to world wide recession and economic meltdown, the grapevine is abuzz that they have put three of these films for which shooting is yet to start, on the backburner. Meanwhile sources in the industry say that they have sent a letter to Mani Ratnam to cut down his budget, from the originally signed Rs 120 crore to Rs 60 crore!

This has come as a major setback to Mani who was shooting his film on a lavish scale in the forests of Kerala. The meltdown has hit Mani the hardest, as his action adventure film, a modern day 'Ramayan' a bi-lingual has top stars like Abhishek Bachchan, Aiswarya Rai, Govinda, Vikram, Prabhu, Pritviraj, Karthik, Priyamani and so many others.

Reliance Big Pictures it seems has told Mani that his film is not commercially viable at the rate they purchased due to global meltdown and recession. Mani will now have to either look for a new producer or do some cost cutting if he has to continue with Ravan.

The corporate theory now is that all top actors and directors in Bollywood are willing to slash their salary, and bring down production cost. So why can't Mani do some drastic cost cutting.

However when contacted the COO of Big Pictures Mahesh Ramanathan, refused to comment. Mani Ratnam also was not available for comment.

120 crores? Sounds too much.

In any case, I want Mani to snap up ties with Reliance/Abhishek family.

For the first time, he shot abroad (Turkey in Guru). Too much hype, and had less to show in the end. Too much commercial attributes which doesn't sit nicely with the narrative, sloppy editing basically. Especially "jodi hai ye" sucked ass for a Mani film. And discontinuity with Abhishek's getup in different songs.

Even Benegal got spoilt by Major Bolly producers/studios. Another man who went bolly, and turned folly. I hope Mani comes unscathed after making some good bucks.

[tscii:d72813a520]Reliance pulls out of ‘Ravan’?

Reliance Big Pictures, which had entered into an agreement with Mani Ratnam to produce his next film based on Ramayan, has opted out of the project, it is learnt. The company has written to the director to cut down on the production cost by 50 per cent, saying that in the recessionary climate prevailing, the film would not be commercially viable at this cost. The entertainment biggie had struck a deal with the ace director for the film Rs 120 crore.

Mani Ratnam has reportedly decided to produce the film on his own. The film, tentatively titled ‘Ravan’ or ‘Asokavanam’, is being produced in three languages—Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. In Hindi, Abhishek Bachchan is the hero and Vikram, the villain. In the south Indian languages, Vikram is in the lead while upcoming Malayali actor Prithviraj plays the villain. In all the three versions, Aishwarya rai Bachchan is the female lead.

Reliance is also said to have backtracked on its decision to acquire the distribution rights of the animation film ‘Sultan: The Warrior’, directed by Soundarya Rajnikanth. Soundarya is now thinking about other options to release the film early next year.

Ratnam shoots a song with 500 dancers in Jhansi

Mani Ratnam is currently shooting for his Ash-Abhishek starrer in Jhansi. The director is preparing to shoot a lavish song involving 500 dancers. The song titled 'Kata Kata Mara Mara' is composed by A R Rahman and choreographed by Ganesh Acharya.

A source reveals details of the song, "This song is more lavish than anything Mani has shot before. It is being shot in a place called Occha, in Jhansi. The dancers are mostly from the south and the song revolves around Abhishek, whose character is called Mitrin. Ravi Kissen, who plays Mangal, is also part of the song."

Done by the weekend

The song is being shot since the last three days and will be completed by this weekend. "The song talks about Abhishek's character and throws light on his background. The lyrics capture the mood of the climax and the background dancers add to the drama. Before Abhishek reached Jhansi, Acharya rehearsed with the background dancers to prepare them for the song."

Taking about the fabulously excessive...

The Tha Karke song from Golmaal Returns is touted to be the most expensive song shot in B-Town. Made on a budget of 3.5 crore, the song involved as many as 1000 dancers, 180 fighters and 10 cars. It took the crew 12 days to complete the song.

Director Mani Ratnam's upcoming movie Ravana has been in news since the time he announced it. First the director decided to shoot amidst the beautiful jungles in Kerala and now he has shifted base to Jhansi in Madhya Pradesh.

He has just finished shooting for a big-budget song sequence featuring Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan along with 500 dancers.

The song Kaata Kaata Maara Maara has been composed by Oscar nominee A R Rahman and has been penned by Gulzar. It will serve as Abhishek s introductory song in the movie.

A source informed that a huge set was created in Jhansi to shoot this song which took four days to wrap up. It has been choreographed by Ganesh Acharya. The source also said that contrary to reports Ravana is not based on the epic Ramayana.

So the initial tune is adjusted to suit the lyrics. . .but which set of lyrics? Which one gets the priority? This is assuming that both films will have the same tunes, as has been the case in the past.

I remember an interview where VM said that he wrote the lyrics of Ennuyire song and inspired by the impact of that lyrics, ARR composed the whole song in just 2 hours. I don't exactly remember the words, but this is what he meant IIRC.

And there are few instances where verses from VM's independent book releases were used in films. For e.g, Evano oruvan. Those will be the cases of lyrics first. Anyhow the lyrical quality is always top notch in MR's film, be it tune first or lyrics first.

[tscii:bd0552def0]No leak from Raavan: Rahman

The latest wave in the Internet is a
supposed ‘leaked’ song from Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film titled Raavan. ON A SONG: A R Rahman

The film, which stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai in lead roles in the Hindi version and Vikram and Aishwarya in the Tamil version, has music by Oscar winner A R Rahman. According to a post in the internet recently, a song — titled Kaadale... in the Tamil version — has been sung by the lead actress Aishwarya herself!

However, music composer Rahman has denied that any such song features in the film. “Someone’s pulling a fast one,” is all he said. All eyes are on Raavan’s music as it will be the first album with the Mani Ratnam-Rahman combination that will be out after the composer’s double delight at the Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire. Besides Raavan, A R Rahman’s current projects include Rajinikanth’s Endhiran and Sultan, Couples Retreat and Vinaithaandi Varuvaaya.

Raavan Song track

4. Tum kaun ho
Chinmayee, Kailash Kher
Picturized on: Aishwarya and Abhishek [Ravana] as a fantasy song during their stay in the jungle. Also the turning point of the movie where Aish falls in love with Ravana. The song is on the lines of Hai Rama Ye Kya Hua (also literally!).

5. Om Namah Shivaya - Taandav mix
Sukhwinder Singh, SPB
Picturized on: Abhishek. Song is also powerfully used as BGM to project the fury and power of Ravana.

6. Divyaastra Drone

7. Litmus Test - Agni-pariksha theme

Considering the story and the fact that Mani Ratnam is the director, the intensity of the high-tension scenes is expected to be brought out by the BGMs.

Ravana shooting ends, Mani celebrates with party

Rains, mishaps, jungle safaris, delays – and what not! Looks like this Mani Ratnam’s magmas opus will go down the cine history for its longest shooting adventure.

And now, ‘Ravana’, this most anticipated movie, is said to have completed its shooting journey. The entire crew would have dropped down in a joyful relief now, we say! And to mark this occasion, Mani Ratnam and his wife Suhasini organized a party for the team. All is well that ends well! Insiders said that Mani sir praised highly of Bollywood star Govinda and his performance, which touched the surprised actor immensely.

At last the team can breathe in the modern civilization again…

Now to refresh you on the movie details – ‘Ravana’ is produced and directed by Mani Ratnam. It has a huge star cast including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Govinda, Prithviraj, Priyamani, Karthik and others. ‘Ravana’ is a bilingual, Hindi-Tamil, movie and loosely based on the Hindu epic ‘Ramayana’. Interestingly, the director has modified the story with a modern touch, making the villain a hero. That is, Vikram here plays the title character as Ravan.

The cinematography is handled by Santosh Sivan while music is done by Oscar winner A R Rahman.

What remains in the list for us is to just wait for this story to unfold on screens. Cross-fingers![/tscii:d79bce77d9]

[tscii:238297ef8a]‘Ravana’ is talking Tamil in Chennai!
IndiaGlitz [Friday, January 15, 2010]

Oh yeah! The dubbing process of ‘Ravana’ Tamil version is up and happening from Jan 4th in Chennai. Mani Ratnam’s favourite editor Srikar Prasanth had prepared a rough cut of 2 hours and 50 minutes for the dubbing purpose.

The first schedule of dubbing over as Prithviraj and Priyamani are done with their part. On the other hand, dubbing process for the crowd voice and other supporting characters are also ready, say the sources.

So, the remaining portion is of Aishwarya’s voice and Govinda’s voice and sources from Madras Talkies are busy hunting for VIP voices for them. As of now, there are no solid denials or confirmation when it comes to the rumours about Superstar’s daughter dear Aishwarya Dhanush giving voice for the ex- world beauty. Likewise, gossip mongers had it that Mani Ratnam has approached Suriya to give dubbing for Govinda. Sources in the know had it that famous dubbing artist Savitha was seen in Prasad Studio, where the dubbing process of ‘Ravana’ is on.

Once the dubbing process is over, the process for Ravana’s sound effects will start immediately. After this the re-recording works will start of in Rahman’s AM Studio in Chennai by February second week. Then the final mixing of the project will also be done in Rahman’s studio, say the sources close to Madras Talkies.

I wonder when this will release. I'm hoping in the next few months!

T-Series gets audio rights of Rahman's Raavan

Continuing its tryst with A R Rahman's titles, music giant T-series has managed to lap the audio rights of his latest mega project Raavan. The music major has acquired the audio rights of the Hindi version of the trilingual saga directed by Mani Ratnam starring power couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

According to reports, Sony Music was tipped to acquire the music of the film but T-Series walked away with the cake. From Slumdog Millionaire to Delhi 6, the label has been the favoured label of the maestro's body of work.

Hopefully that won't be the case . If so, that is what I call torture! Since Mani has decided to screen the film at Cannes, the should be completed with the songs. Or he could screen the film without the songs? Well, who really knows

First look of Mani Ratnam's 'Raavan' on "Now Showing" at 10.30pm tonight on CNN-IBN. Have to say, Abhishek B's looking very interesting!

Only a teaser so far, but looks like something worth counting down the days to.

I want to know if the stunt performed in the teaser has been done by Abhishek himself

[tscii:caf24c6e2c]Mani's Raavan trailer released!

By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 17 April , 2010, 12:20

Mani Ratnam and Big Pictures have officially launched the teaser trailer of their ambitious Raavan.

It is a 40 second awesome teaser trailer meant for the audio launch of the film on April 24.

The first look of Abhishek Bachchan taking a dive from top of a cliff into a river below and him riding a bike and Aiswarya Rai’s face with fear written all over is the visual.

The Tamil and Telugu Raavanan teaser trailer will be released only close to its audio launch.

T- Series have acquired the Hindi audio rights of the film, which has music by AR Rahman. T-Series, president- marketing media publishing (TV) Vinod Bhanushali said: "It is a magnum project which brings together the winning combination of Mani Ratnam and A R Rahman. The film's star cast is also quite an attraction.”

Meanwhile the Tamil and Telugu audio rights negotiations are going on, with Sony Music emerging as the front runners. As soon as the deal is firmed up, Raavanan audio launch in Tamil and Telugu will take place probably in May.

It is idiotic to release the tamil version on a different date. YMC was released a week later from VTV but YMC was anticipated only by the ARR fans in Andhra. But that is not the case for Raavanan. Mani, Vikram themselves have a huge fan base.

Exclusive: Mani Ratnam and Rahman are all set to recreate magic with Raavan

Jimi Hendrix once said, "Music is a safe kind of high". Well then, you're just two days away before you get high. So be prepared for an overdose of musical madness. Thanks to Mani Ratnam and A.R. Rahman, who've weaved their magic in Raavan. As we are just one day away from the music launch of the year for the 2010's most awaited film, there has been a latest development in the music front. Sources say that Asha Bhonsle has recently recorded a song for Mani's Raavan for the Tamil version. We also hear that for one of his tracks called 'Kata Kata' which is sung by Ila Arun, Sapna Awasthi and Kunal Ganjawala in the Hindi version of the film, the maverick director shot this big budget song with 500 dancers in Jhansi along with choreographer Ganesh Acharya, which took four days to wrap up.

And if you liked Abhishek Bachchan in and as Raavan in the 30 second trailer and the first look, think again! In the tamil version's Raavan, Vikram will also take you by surprise (see the pic). In almost the same identical look and make up which Abhishek dons in the Hindi version, this is Vikram at his best. This is Vikram's biggest roles in his longstanding career and his stellar acting skills are the much talked about in tinseltown, as he apparently shines alongside Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the hero and the villain in this bi-lingual film. Prithviraj will play the antagonist in the Tamil version of Raavan.

But if there is one thing which makes Raavan unique, (besides acting) is its music. A.R. Rahman is back with the vengeance and is all set to give his best work ever as per the sources. He has done it in the past for Mani Ratnam in Dil Se and Bombay but in Raavan, he is going to be one notch higher. We guess he also heard Jimi Hendrix well.

The Hindi and Tamil track list features the best of the best in Indian music - A.R. Rahman himself, Asha Bhonsle, Sukhwinder Singh, Kailash Kher, Reena Bhardwaj, Rashid Ali, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Naresh Iyer, Shreya Ghoshal, Karthik, Malgudi Subha, Ila Arun, Kunal Ganjawala, Sapna Awasthi and Sonu Niigaam.

It's definitely going to be a sound evening or is it?

Below is the Tamil track list of Raavan:

'Veera Veera' by A.R. Rahman and Kailash Kher
'Kata Kata' by Ila Arun, Malgudi Subha, Sonu Niigaam

[tscii:8fdfbb2a60]Sony Music grabs Raavanan audio!
By Moviebuzz | Thursday, 22 April , 2010, 19:35

One of India’s leading music companies Sony Music has grabbed the audio rights of Mani Ratnam’s forthcoming Raavan’s Tamil version Raavanan and its Telugu dubbing Villain for a record price.

Sources close to the development said: “The Tamil Raavanan audio launch will take place a few days after the Hindi Raavan audio which is to be launched on April 24. It will be a red carpet event as Chennai is the home town of Mani sir, ARR and Vikram. All of them will take part in the event, details are being worked out as the launch will happen on or before April 30.”

The music of Raavan is composed by Academy Awards winner AR Rahman. Sony Music had lost out the Hindi audio of the film to T-Series, so they were determined to grab the Tamil and Telugu rights of the film. Remember Sony Music has the best AR Rahman library and is also close to the Oscar winning music director.

Raavanan in Tamil and Telugu has an impressive star cast- Vikram, Aiswarya Rai, Prithviraj, Priyamani, Prabhu, Karthik and others. Mani Ratnam is the biggest brand name in south Indian cinema after Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan. The Mani Ratnam- AR Rahman combo has never failed, and Raavanan is sure to be a chartbuster.

After hearing the sound samples, I am very disappointed. I was expecting something new and refreshing, but it is too periodic and reminiscent of Guru, but without the refreshing sounds of Guru. I was expecting something more youthful with this cast.

Asha Bhonsle renders her voice for Tamil Raavan!
Thursday, April 22, 2010, 16:34 [IST]

This year’s most awaited Bollywood film, Raavan will have its music release just two days from now, on April 24. And the excitement for it is already in the air.

Buzz up!
According to sources, Asha Bhosle has rendered her voice to a song in the Tamil version of Raavan. Also, one of the tracks, ‘Kata Kata’, features artists Ila Arun, Sapna Awasthi and Kunal Ganjawala. The video of the song was shot in Jhansi, with 500 dancers and is choreographed by Ganesh Acharya. The big budget song took four days to wind up.

The 30 second preview for the both the Tamil and Hindi version is out and Abhishek Bachchan and Vikram both seem to have done a marvelous job. But the music of the film is being awaited about as much as the film itself. AR Rahman is back to provide some of his best work to the movie. Some of his best compositions in the past have been for Mani Ratnam’s movies,Bombay and Dil Se. With Raavan, the composer just wants to go one level higher.

The Hindi and Tamil albums feature some of the best artistes in Indian music, like AR Rahman, Asha Bhonsle, Sukhwinder Singh, Kailash Kher, Reena Bhardwaj, Rashid Ali, Mahalaxmi Iyer, Naresh Iyer, Shreya Ghoshal, Karthik, Malgudi Subha, Ila Arun, Kunal Ganjawala, Sapna Awasthi and Sonu Nigam.

April 23, 2010

Home > More news

Mani Ratnam has decided to launch the audio of Raavan on April 24th. But sources close to the film unit say that the audio launch of the Tamil version will be held in Chennai at a later date, preferably before April 30th.

Yet another piece of info is that Sony Music has bagged the audio rights of the Tamil and Telugu version for a huge amount. With the songs being scored by the Oscar winner AR Rahman, there is a speculation among the movie and music buffs that there would be several chartbusters in the album.

Kata Kata almost reaches the standards set by Veerapandi Kottayile. I never thought we would get another Veerapandi from ARR again. Can't wait to listen to the Tamil version.

As of now my preference:

1. Beera Beera (too short)
2. Ranjha Ranjha (beauty)
3. Khilli Re (classic)
4. Kata Kata (thumping drumbeats)

Couldn't listen to the remaining 2 songs. Every time I try to do that, I keep on going back to Ranjha and Beera.

Musicaloud reviews Raavan 9/10

Raavan shows promises right from the word go, starting with the bouncy Beera, the mix of Indian and African folk elements in the orchestration forming a perfect combo. And Vijay Prakash does a fab job of the rendition alongside newcomer Mustafa Kutoane and Keerthi Sagathia, with Rahman making the occasional appearance in the background. Mustafa seems to be an African singer from his voice and style. Nice debut anyways. Things take a somber, yet better, turn with the sufi-ish Behene De. The faint resemblance in tune with some older Rahman tunes like Satrangi Re is totally forgotten in the beauty of the instrumentation and the spot-on vocals by Karthik and Mohammad Irfan. It is rather unfortunate that Karthik hasn’t been able to build a place in Bollywood in spite of having sung quite a few good tracks for Rahman. Of course if he keeps getting such beauties from Rahman himself it doesn’t really matter! Thok De Killi is the only slightly uninteresting fare in the whole lot. In spite of Sukhwinder Singh’s high energy vocals (supported by another newbie by name Am’Nico) and barring Rahman’s clever instrumental additions in places, the song is largely tedious.
The previous dip is more than compensated with the awesome Sufi-electronic fusion in Ranjha Ranjha. I have especially been caught on by the instrumentation in the initial one minute. The breezy processed humming of Anuradha Sriram is such a perfect fit for the overall mood! There is obviously no need to comment on the singing by Rekha Bharadwaj and Javed Ali. After a break Reena Bhardwaj returns to sing for ARR the beautiful Khilli Re. There is every chance given the semi classical nature of the song that Khilli Re will not cut ice with a lot of listeners, but it is in such songs that I have felt Rahman’s master class truly gets demonstrated, and to me this is the pick of the album. I loved the brief Chinese violin accompaniment towards the end (3:11 – 3:22). As it started, Raavan ends with another lively song, Kata Kata, a heavy-on-percussion track. Being right down their alley, Ila Arun and Sapna Awasthi handle the folksy track with ease with good support from Kunal Ganjawala and a host of other singers.
Rahman may have grown by leaps and bounds over the years, working with some of the biggest names all over India and outside, but his finest scores still continue to be reserved for one person, Mani Ratnam. And for good reason too, considering the way Mani Ratnam has treated each of those songs in his movies. Eagerly waiting for Raavan’s videos now!

Music Aloud Rating: 9/10
Recommended tracks: Khilli Re, Behene De, Ranjha Ranjha

Vikram in Mumbai for Raavan audio launch

By Moviebuzz | Saturday, 24 April , 2010, 09:03

Vikram is in Mumbai for the audio launch of the biggest movie of the year, Mani Ratnam抯 Raavan.

The music of the movie by Oscar winner AR Rahman has already made a presence on the net and is a runaway super hit.

Raavan, is the most anticipated album in recent times as Gulzar- Rahman- Mani is a deadly trio. Who can forget the foot stomping Chaiyya, Chaiyaa?/I> from the trios earlier Dil Se?

The songs of Raavan have a earthy feel about it and Beera Beera?/I>, Behne De?/I> are sure going to be chartbusters. Audio industry trackers say that it is going to be the album of the year. Remember Mani sir- ARR music has never failed.

T-Series' president- marketing media publishing Vinod Bhanushali said: "The movie has the magical combination of A R Rahman and Mani Ratnam. It is also Mani sir's first project with us and we are going to promote it through every possible medium."

Meanwhile Vikram will be there at today抯 launch. It will be his first major exposure to Bollywood. Says Vikram: 揑抦 thrilled to be a part of Raavan and looking forward to a great evening.?P>

Beera is probably the best song, but it is way too short and repetitive.
All the other songs are good but not amazing.
I would say overall VTV is a much stronger album...it was more experimental and much different from the usual stuff.

Kata Kata really reminds me of Yaro Yarodi (Alapayuthey).
I don't think Karthik was the right choice for Behene De...this song is quite boring.

I hope I can come back in a few days, after hearing the Tamil version on repeat, and be able to say that this album is by far the best of AR.

[tscii:afb93898bd]Music review: Raavan Hindi ¨C A R Rahman

Beera, in true Rahman style, takes a spirited, free-flowing life of its own; the energizing tune, completely fresh vocals of Mustafa Kutoane¡¯s literally African sound and Vijay Prakash¡¯s spritely rendition¡*it all adds up perfectly. Behene de is gorgeous! Resembling the style of Taj Mahal¡¯s Kuliridhu is a massive advantage, even as it takes many fascinating turns mid-way. Karthik is in dazzling form in this track! Thok di killi¡¯s exotic sounds and energy have it in great stead even beyond those occasionally predictable Arabic¡¯esque phases, thanks in large doses to the energizer bunny-level liveliness of Sukhwinder Singh. The way it ends, in almost a frenzy, is a nice touch! Ranjha ranjha, with its methodically ascending orchestration and earthy vocals by Rekha Bharadwaj, offers instant gratification. Add to that, Javed Ali¡¯s polished vocals, some scintillating interludes and sheer lyrical drama by Gulzar ¨C this is a clear winner! Khili re is Rahman-template in every note¡*that semi-devotional, heartfelt rendition by a lady ¨C sounds functional, but is also the sole mildly-appealing track. Kata kata is a euphoric victory, but; immediately catchy and hummable, with enough mind-boggling layers hidden to unravel on multiple listens. Mani, as always, continues to bring the best out of Rahman!

Way to go jinju.. Tri lingual means they should release songs in all languages at the same time. Cant compare this delay with VTV. Thats totaly different. The only obvious reason can be to increase and cash in the sales of Hindi version. Maniratnam is so cheap and should be ashamed of himself for using this kind of dirty tricks.

I cant beleive Rahman agreed to delay other versions. Im so dissappointed. Its going to feel like a dub movie.
