I think the Tamilnadu Govt already announced, Tamil Newyear day will be celebrated on January 14th :confused2:

Its sentimental that Chithirai releases are blockbusters be it Saamy,Ghillli or CM or whatever...And chithirai means the whole month right, not the first day alone....anyways sumer holidays are a reason for movies becoming cashdrawers,so its good for em to release now.

Sakkaraikatti was also to be released sometime now.....

Even I thought about the same when I looked at this thread. You can’t overrule the tradition or sentiments followed by people just by an order. There will be lot of absence at offices, schools, colleges etc., on that day

So obviously the theatres will be jam packed :)

[tscii:58a766ec5b]Jalsa Review : Jalsa Movie review- HIT
Banner: Geeta Arts
Cast: Pawan Kalyan, Prakash Raj, Mukesh Rishi, Ileana, Parvathi Melton, Kamalinee Mukherji, Brahmanandham, Ali, Sunil, and Shayaji shinde.
Direction: Trivikram Srinivas
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Producer: Allu Arvind

Rating :3.5/5

Story

Power Star Pawan Kalyan has come up with a hit this time. The lean patch in his career seems to be over now. This time, Pawan has come up with a total family entertainer which has an amalgamation of Comedy, fights, sentiment, emotions and overall total entertainment and is worth for each penny. Though the second half looks shaped out, the climax still is unpredictable and super entertaining.

The movie starts with the generic voice of Prince Mahesh Babu, who introduces himself as a friend to Pawan Kalyan who plays the character of Sanjay in this movie. Sanjay (Pawan Kalyan) is introduced in the first frame as a boozer who is obsessed with the education. The get –up given to him belongs to this generation, but will make the audience memorize as yesteryears Devdas.

In the illustration for this, Kamalinee Mukherji is introduced as a lover of Pawan Kalyan who has a father which is played by Prakash Raj. Though the narration is brief, but generates a lot of interest and makes us feel as if we are involved in the characters. After this frame in a comic fashion, though it hurts Sanjay (Pawan Kalyan), is zoomed to another scene where the hero Sanjay attends the marriage of Kamalinee Mukherji with another person.

Then the next frame is shown and is marked as after 52 weeks. In this frame Ileana and Parvathi Melton enter the life of Sanjay (Pawan) and the incident is captured with a fighting sequence which highlights the skills of Pawan and makes him a true hero.

Then after this scene, little bit of Comedy is sprinkled for next few minutes and Ileana wins the heart of Sanjay (Pawan) with the help of the noted comedian Sunil. He erupts into the film and generates some comedy and due to his comic touch as well as some heart touching incidents, Ileana and Pawan fall in love.

Meanwhile, the next frame introduces the villain of the film which is played by Mukesh Rishi and is coupled by the comedian cum villain Tanikella Bharani. Mukesh is introduced as a dreaded factionist who never cares any law and any person and almost rules the entire region and clutches it in his fists. Though Mukesh runs his entire evil works from the jail, it looks realistic and also is possible in today’s world. The land takeover scene is well captured in the camera lens.

While Mukesh works on the sidelines, then again the songs, love making scenes and well portrayed scenic location entertain the audience and make them glued to the seats. However on the side track the war against Mukesh and Sanjay (Pawan) is well carved and makes the audience tense that some thing big may strike the hero in the form of the dreaded villain Mukesh Rishi as the hero is totally ignorant about what is happening and about the moves of the villain.

Mukesh Rishi in an incident traces Sanjay (Pawan) and tries to get hold of him, but his actions go in vein as he decides to kill Pawan after making him suffer a hell on earth. Meanwhile, Sanjay is unaware about all this which is cooking behind him and merrier his way.

From then the chase of the hero and the villain begins, but it can be reviewed as only the villain’s chase as the hero is ignorant about the villain and his moves. In a scene Pawan saves Ali, and reveals emotionally that his child hood was a hell and this is due to poverty. But his dialogues and his body language does not suit this variety of heavy loaded senti’s. It makes the audience remember, about his initial stages of his career, like his films “Akkada Ammayi -Ikkada Abbai” which had heavy loaded dialogues in the middle and in the climax.

Then the Interval Break is given Guys, cheer up! Gets some popcorn and cool drinks

The story after the interval start with Pawan starting his childhood saga, as he narrates to his friend how miserable his childhood life was and how he succeeded from his young life to his present age. This also brings on the screen, about his Naxalite life and the reason for joining their organization of Naxalism. Though the reason is well strong in its place, but the story starts to deviate a little bit from its usual entertaining part. Sanjay (Pawan) is also promoted as a commander in chief in the naxals group and to bring some cheer in the audience faces, Mahesh Voice is edited into the narration and this truly brings some relief in the minds of the audience.

Suddenly some group of Naxal’s mob the hero and the reason for it is suspense. Adding to this Prakash Raj also enters the story again as a police officer and what happens in the climax is a suspense which has to be seen on the big silver screen.

Performances

Power Star has given his 100 5 to this film and the fruitful results for his hard work are already ringing at the box office. As usual his dressing style and his costly Pepe jeans wardrobe will be seen on the screen. His shirts and his over-shirts are really a must watch on the silver screen. His powerful dialogue delivery with a punch in it makes us believe that he is truly a big hero for sure.

Coming to the glam dolls, the skin show is mostly done by Wally cleavage Ileana and the ravishing Parvathi Melton. All the costumes worn by them are revealing and super. Especially the black sari worn by Parvathi Melton makes the temperatures in the pants of every male audience soaring as her naval part is so sexy .And last but, not the least Kamalinee Mukherji is also superb in her brief role. Her costumes are a must watch for every young girl and if interested can also be purchased to pep up their Boyfriends and also the society with the latest trend.

Coming to the songs of Devi, they are average and only one song is worth watching which the title song is. May be Manisharma would have done more justice for this movies script.

Trivikram Srinivas has done a good job. The script part is also well woven and is apt for Pawan. The choreography is done very well.

Overall this film is like a breezer in this summer and Pawan with his wholesome family entertainer has won all his fans hearts again.

This film will surely run towards 100 days and even it can cross the 150 days mark with the help of Pawan’s Fans.

Santhosh Subramaniyam - Spreading santhosam all through

IndiaGlitz [Saturday, April 12, 2008]

Hats off director Raja and Jeyam Ravi for hitting the bull's eye for the fourth time in a row. The duo continues from where they left in Unakum Enakum to provide a feel-good light-hearted family entertainer sure to be enjoyed with the family.

It is a whiff of fresh air amidst the nauseating action-packed flicks where men run around wielding guns aimlessly and the hero mouthing punch dialogues. The movie probes deep in to the psyche of parents and their grown up children to analyse where and how conflict between them starts. It also presents a solution.

Prakashraj plays a dotting father while Jayam Ravi his callous son. Both have handled their roles with ease and elegance. Both are natural and render justice to their characters. Ravi is bubbling with energy and is enthusiastic on screen. He is charming and elegant. Genelia is the perfect foil for the female lead.

In the role of a innocent and fun-loving girl, she has managed to deliver one of her best performance so far. She is spontaneous as an happy-go-lucky-girl and expressions come out quite comfortably from her. Hitherto she was looked as a glamour doll in Kollywood. Thanks to director Raja, she has managed to prove everyone that she too can sparkle in performance-oriented roles.

Santhanam in the company of Premji Gangai Amaran evokes laughter. His slapstick comedy evokes laughter at several places in the theatre.

The movie has a huge star cast which includes Kousalya, Geetha, Shayaji Shinde, Sathyan and former Indian cricketer Sadagoppan Ramesh. All have a contribution to make in the movie.

Devi Sri Prasad's pulsating musical score is a major highlight of the movie. The racy numbers linger in our hearts, while his background score sets up the momentum.

Santosh (Jayam Ravi) has everything in life, but in excess amounts. His father, Subramaniam (Prakash Raj), decides on what is good for Santosh and gives him more than what he asks for. But never he gives a chance to his son to express his opinion.

He selects the girl of his choice to Santosh. That is when Santosh meet a bubbly beauty Hasini (Genelia), whom he has waited all his life for. Now he has a complex situation. First he need to propose and win her over. Then convince his over-obsessive father. Then make his ladylove's father accept him. Then break the engagement. How he successfully comes across all these is Santosh Subramaniam.

Raja now joins the big league of directors delivering a movie that will satisfy all sections of the audience. Producer kalpathi Agoram should be equally complemented for churning out the venture.

Santosh Subramaniam is no doubt a film that is sure to spread santhosam (happiness) to one and all.

Cast: Jeyam Ravi, Genelia, Prakash Raj, Santhanam, Shayaji Shinde, Geetha, Premji

Music: Devi Sri Prasad

Direction: Raja

[tscii:b5d74851fa]Nepali - Enjoyable in parts

IndiaGlitz [Saturday, April 12, 2008]

Much was expected from director V Z Durai in ‘Nepali’. Featuring Bharath in triple role, hype and hoopla surrounding the movie was high. However the movie fails to live up to all expectations as it provides a deja vu.

Though the theme and storyline may sound new, the execution is very familiar. A vigilante movie which Tamil audience got accustomed watching for the past several decades.

Durai has tried to weave three different stories together. Though it begins on a positive note, it stutters as it proceeds eventually reaching the climax after much gasping and panting.

The movie has enough doses of romance, action and bloodshed. Unfortunately Durai has missed out on blending them properly.

Bharath lends credibility to the role. A matured performance indeed. After a mass commercial hero in ‘Pazhani’, he has gone miles ahead to prove that he can play serious hero in the lines of one played by Suriya in ‘Ghajini’. Though Meera Jasmine looks a bit matured for the role, she gracefully performs the task. However the real scene stealer is ‘Kannamma’ fame Prem. As a tough cop Goutham he plays to the gallery and looks typically suited for the role.

The movie revolves around Karthik ( Bharath), a software engineer. He comes across Priya (Meera Jasmine) in a hill station. After formal acquaintance, love blossoms between them.

As usual, the girl family protests their affair. Eventually the couple walk out of the house and get married. They face trouble in the form of a greedy and sexual maniac police officer. He lusts on Priya. When he tries to molest her, she gets killed. The blame falls on Karthik.

He kills the police officer and goes to jail, where he meets a Nepali social worker (Govind Namdeo), who voices for women harassed in workplace. Inspired by the Nepali, Karthik comes out of the prison to punish those who misbehave with women at workplace. He bumps off a computer engineer, a professor and a doctor dressed as a Nepali youth.

DCP Gautham (Prem) takes up the task of cracking the serial murders. Does he manage to pin down Karthik forms the crux?

The movie is filled with bloodshed, violence and gore in the second half.

The Nepali make-up sits well on Bharath though at places looks a mismatch.

Cinematographer Madhi has captured the mood really well. The lightings and background shades used by him are eye-catching and set the mood for each scene.

However the movie at many places reminds one of films like ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’, ‘Manmadhan’ and ‘Ghajini’.

Had Durai concentrated more on the slick narration in the second half, the ‘Nepali’ could have come out strong, healthy and trim.

Nepaali is a racy thriller

Pavithra Srinivasan

April 12, 2008 13:12 IST

Nepaali, directed by V Z Dhorai, manages to steer clear of the beaten track and plot a course in uncharted territory. And that in itself deserves some applause even if the first half an hour presents a confusing variety of events and people that heralds a tangled plot.

Three different sets of events proceed simultaneously on screen: one a vibrant wash of colours, which you might mistake for the present, is actually the far past; scenes in sepia tones catalogue the recent past while the ones with a bluish tinge represent the present.

And in all three, it's Bharath who takes centre-stage.

A bubbly software engineer, Karthik (Bharath) jumps around and enthusiastically romances an equally over-the-top Priya (Meera Jasmine [Images]); the two lovebirds take turns detailing the saga of their love.

It's a narrative that's full of colours and flowers, surprise meetings, much girly squeals, missed calls and charming sms'. Their love is the stuff of fairytales; marriage deepens their affection until fate plays its villainous card, in the form of the neighbourhood's police inspector.

The man harasses Priya, first subtly, then strongly, setting up a chain of reactions that continue right up to the last reel.

Meantime, the story cuts across to sepia-toned jail sequences, showing a bespectacled, worn prisoner trying desperately to kill himself, getting into trouble with the jailer, and ending up suffering even more punishment.

And then there's his mysterious neighbour, a Nepali (Govind Namdev) who rarely speaks but who holds many secrets in his heart and develops a sort of kinship with this half-crazed tortured soul.

And then there's the present day: mysterious murders occur in the city, to which the police receive clues in advance but they're a meaningless jumble. Slowly but surely, the team assembles them, working out the who, what and where finally constructing a logical flow of events, cause and effect.

A Nepali wanders around the city, popping up in unexpected places, and contacting strange men. But what does he have to do with the people getting killed?

To say that Bharath has shouldered the movie like the proverbial Atlas heaving up the Earth would be an understatement: he occupies practically every frame, playing all the right emotions, etching three very different characters in each scene.

As the spirited Karthik, he's full of himself; as the prisoner, he's close to a bag of bones, crushed with despair and close to giving up; as the Nepali who wears pointy eyebrows and speaks with a stutter. He's managed to give a different touch to each portrayal.

Its hard work requiring careful execution and Bharath has given it his all. Well done.

As the movie progresses, it cuts across the three segments more and more frequently. The story grows clearer, providing the viewer with not just the missing pieces of the plot, but motive as well.

And it's here that Meera Jasmine shines. As the young girl hopelessly in love, she's cute and sometimes irritating; as the sexually harassed wife who goes slowly from uneasiness to outright terror she's in her element. Her horrible end tugs at your heartstrings.

Obviously, it's the screenplay that's got to take the credit. After a really long time, the police force, instead of sitting around waiting for the hero to wrap up things, actually conducts an investigation, and what's more, does it logically and in a meaningful fashion!

Several times, the cat-and-mouse game between the police and the Nepali leaves you on the edge of the seat. That isn't to say that there are no plot-holes: how, for example, does Bharath survive when he's out of prison? Where does the Nepali get all the high-funda drug knowledge used for the murders? Why all the red and green graphics stuff explaining bodily functions? How does an ordinary software engineer manage to live in such a posh mansion?

But these are flaws that are swept away in the otherwise racy thriller. There are a host of other characters which add some depth to the narrative: the steely jailer, Meera's parents, the harassing police officer nor, but meaningful portrayals.

The climax comes as no surprise but it's been handled with a deft twist which makes you sit up. Not to mention making you melt, as well. It deserves the 'A' certificate though: violence and lust-coated scenes are inserted whenever possible, with loud bashing scenes and blood spurting all over the place.

Srikanth Deva's music has hit the mark here. You only wish he used some subtle tones occasionally.

Nepali is quick, fast, racy and new -- with just a few bumps along the road. On the whole, though, it makes a fairly good show.
