I am a tamil south african who is now living in europe. I have started a family and find that i am lacking in knowledge about these topics. I have asked my mum but she does not have the background knowledge and detailed information.

I need to build on the vague knowledge I have about the following topics.

Merinselevu (birth masala), history of and its uses.

Indian babybath and massage:- I have watched this being practiced by my mother, some of the stretching and twisting looks very aggressive. I attended a massage course when my son was born and learnt about terms like indian milking. some of the excercises looked like those I have seen in my community back home.

Baby yoga, I started a mum and baby yoga course on friday with my daughter and again these excercises repeated themselves, okay I know yoga comes from India and I should not be surprised. I was introduced to a book as well.

I would like info on these topics and if you can refer me to sites or books written by Indian authors, books that would give me the traditional methods.

Thank you,
Fridge

Hi there

Yes I am the South African who used to frequent the hub before. Thank you for the links Shakthi, I will look them all up. I am also looking for any bits of information that one has learned from ones mothers or grandmothers.

Shekhar
I remember you, how are you doing? did you learn yet that women are a higher power and did find your rightful place worshiping one or are you still single?

Hi fridge !!! :D :D :D

What a pleasant surprise.. after so many years !!!

did you learn yet that women are a higher power and did find your rightful place worshiping one or are you still single?

No fridge. You have forgotten that I was married even then. You remember my "peace nook" and the "impressions on the sofa having been thrown out of bedroom" ?  Because of my love of life and energy people can't believe I am married !!
A man to prevent himself from drowing learns to swim, and understands water well. That is how I have understood women!! got it?!!
And now for one more addition to the female brigade to deal with!!

No fridge.. I was not in Bangalore then. I was in a coastal town handling a Naval Project. That's how I got to see all those girls on the beach jogging in shorts and T shirts !!

Fridge.. I feel sad to see that you have forgotten all the wisdom I poured out in the hub which had I got from my experience of marriage.
See, when the husband is happy, the wife become doubtful+jealous+angry+desparate+perplexed+anxous. That's why she tries her best to keep her husband puppy on the leash.
Look at me, I am married and so happy . Just imagine how I would have been if I were NOT married !!!

Dear Shekhar

Imagine how unhappy you would be if your wife did not keep you on a leash. You see men are like this, if you do not keep them on a leash they run off after the "shorts and T-shirts " recieve verbal abuse and feel so insecure afterwords. The caring wife tries to prevent all this. Tonight when you go home and see your wife, just think how happy she makes you. :)

Hi fridge,
Well not all men would run off after "shorts & T-shirts".....I for one, would run the other way if I came across them...... :P

Fridge,
Nice to know that you have got married and a baby too..!! :D :D
But I am truly concerned about your poor husband. Please bring him on to the hub. He needs experienced guys like me and NOV.

I don't know why he got married to a lioness like you. May be it was a fit of madness or sheer foolhardiness. Whatever, he desparately needs our wisdom for survival. Take pity on the poor fellow and bring him here. We will teach him the techniques of survival in marriage so that he will develop some courage not to shun "the shorts and T shirts" and earn some joy in the process !!!

Shekar,

Every lion gets into fit of madness and marries a lioness. They realise their folly later, much much later than the lioness herself, who blames her own fate for falling prey to sugary words of the wise and wordly wise!

Ha Ha, Your wife has done well with you.

You ask ""why did my husband marry a lioness like me?"".. It was actually a very well thought out decision. He decided to improve his life and realised he should get himself a wife. Well us lionesses can be very nice people sometimes

Ha! Ha! Obviously his thinking process doesn't go very far. Fridge.. tell me honestly.. Is that why you married him?!!

Well, He is the type who runs away from "Shorts and Tshirts" :D :D When he gets married, his wife will not have much to do to put him on a leash. He will run his neck into it eagerly and willingly !!
He is a perfect prey for a woman. It's miracle he is still not married, with so many girls on the prowl !! :smile2: :lol2: :lol2:

Communication breakdown i did not mean that.
Us women can be so nice when mum-in-law is around we only start roaring after she has left.

Sorry I did not get you there. I will give you the same advice that Benedict gave the prince in Shakespeares Comedy
"much ado about nothing"
Get Thee a wife, Get thee a wife.

Shekhar
I got married because I wanted to help my poor husband improve his life. You must know by now that I have such a good heart. The poor man works hard all week and then he does not have time to spend his money so I decided do help.

I still did not get info on the merinselevu. I think I should check under the food section.
