Am also a great fan of prasanna... nalla voice, nalla attitude... when u keenly note prasi's performance, there are various sruthi flaws comparitevly high when compared with others... adhukku avara kuththam sollamudiyaadhu coz he didnt learn music... as judges told, especially as srini told, he can still be a playback singer for some kuthu kinda songs but to excel, he should learn music and he can become a gr8 star... yes his comments are true... :bow:

I think the judges did a gr8 decision of eliminating prasanna... it is not a failure for prasanna, those are stepping stones for success... edutha odane oru music padikkadhavar win panninaa appo ivlo varushamaa music padichu practice panravangalukku enna madhippu... carnatic is the base for everything... if they didnt eliminate and if we wins suppose, juz think of his future... definetely he will get a chance with yuvan, but if he/some other music director asks him to sing for classical beats, then wht will he do... definetely they will poke the ASS programme itself... 'ennappa select panniyirukkaanga...' coz in live atmosphere he cant produce creative classical beats... he can mimic songs.. but he is not creative, where vijay is very creative, his voice is not gr8 but he is definetely creative... Yen grasping power is not gr8 for prasi, because he doesnt have tht creativity, he can mimic the original song and produce it with excellent singing... but kuththu songs kku prasi is the best choice... IMHO he should learn music which will make him more stronger and it will become a strong basement for his career... :yes:

Maanoothu manthaiyila pAttu onnu pOthum to kick him out. I was wondering how he got selected even for the last 20 when he was singing it. Theeyil vizhuntha thEnA of ARR's was basically destroyed.

The way Prasanna sang maanoothu manthaiyila was 100 times better.

And think of the number of times VIjay was picked for elimination, compared to Prasanna. Ippa mattum yEthO judges ozhungA avanga vElaiya pAthAngaLaam .. appO enna thoongittu irunthAngaLaa :x

Prasanna performance-a keen-a gavanichu paarunga... for each n every song he did, he brought the orignal song as it is, endha improvisation-um pannala... he use to imitate and mimic the original song as it is, for eg. when he sang, 'Sivasambo' song he mimicked as MSV's voice... nalla irundhudhu i didnt say anything abt this, whereas others tried to sing with their own voice... and one other PBS song, avar maadhiriye paadinaar, mimic panradhilla singing... it is something gud n gr8... avar innum nallave varuvaar...

If u observe the original playback singing, u should sing for a new song, not an existing song, to mimic it... so in that atmosphere u have to bring creativeness, so as to become popular and gr8 singer... :D

I agree with your points. But we cannot say that Prasi is only capable of kuthu songs. He can also sing melodies, or fast paced disco numbers. Carnatic song'na kandippa kashtam. But remember, there are so many genres of songs in Tamil. Not just Kuthu and Carnatic :D

No wonder, this is going to be her last round anyway. She and Vijay chose nee pArthafrom hey raam :cry: Renu and Ravi were through to the semis. Best thing in Yday's show was Sreeni (coming from ARR school) saying that kAdhal Oviyam (alaigaL Oyvathillai) is the beat love duet ever in TFI history. Y/day Veerapandi kottaiyile was good with all the string instruments. They did a great job and the sync was so good.

The male combination was good. Femalesla Ragini voice suthama varala. May be the high pitches were a problem.

Solo roundla Ragini's Pootukkal pottalum was just average. The song was pitched down to suit her and Srini commented it was Ragini version. However Mr.Anand was a great support, inspite of the comment from Sujatha that the song is not fit for a competition.

Quality of the show hit the bottom after the recall round. And need to say that Yugi-MOlini combo too had played a role in the 'quality' part. Chinmayi is any day better than this two.

Best performance was by Renu who sang "Unna Vida" from Virumandi. It was mindblowing :clap: :bow: Stunning performance.... Original song kEkura madiri irundhadhu... such a beautiful singing... Kudos!!!!

Ravi as usual sang well. irundhAlum something missing :oops: Don't know if it is because we expect a lot from him. KalaivAniyE was superb. :clap:

Ranjani - :clap: Her singing was too good in all the songs. Flawless... Chinna chinna vannakkuyil was superb.

Vijay and Ajesh - ajesh was better. Vijay was failure today. not even one attempt was excellent. (I watched from Ranjani's chinna chinna song)

:o As seen by an IR fan :P But adhu illa reason. All contestants have been singing IR songs on many occassions. Rohith always chose IR songs and he was going strong. Aagaya gangai maathiri kashtamAna pAttakooda nallAthAn paadinaar. Retro round was mostly with IR songs and most of them did well. RaaginiyE vEgam vEgam song'a perfect'a pAdinathA neengathAn sonneenga. RaaginiyE paadumpOthu... :P

Problem is with the program itself. It has got dragged too much .They spoilt the whole thing by having the recall round. Contestants, judges, special guests every body looks dull and tired. Heard that the shooting happens very late in the nights and goes on till dawn. It is also obvious that ASS team is running short of ideas. IR, MSV, ARR, Retro, Black and White round ellAm semi final'ku sari varAthu. PuthusA koncham creative'a vERa yEthAvathu try paNNanum.

generally, hindi and malayalam shows-la they have better singers.....this is a fact, we cant deny......vijay prakash, shreya ghosal, even sonu nigam came from such competitions-nnu paakumbodhu, u can really see the talent out there.....

in tamil channels, i have always seen IR songs being sung in most of the competitions.........raagamaalika(jayatv) at one point used to just have raaja songs to the point that i almost broke my tv screen once :oops: :lol: even the abaswarangal in suntv had comperers who made kids/elders win just bcos they sang IR songs........there was clear discrimination on kids singing ARR songs.........i really lost heart in such programmes.......but i heard ASS is having right balance, got to watch it once........ :)

Of course, all MDs would have songs like this but IR's songs of this kind are overwhelmingly large in number. Please note, the key word is , 'not easy to sing' (not implying songs which are relatively easy to sing are not great). Carnatic and also raga-based (or otherwise) 'mainstream' songs.

Also, For ARR's case, Vijay not being able to match Rahman in "Theeyil vizhundha thena" (here the complexity/difficulty is more because of pitch and feel IMO rather than the tune itself) - the example here is for 'not being able to do full justice.

Bala, you are just taking two totally different examples from ASS and trying to justify your side. In ASS very rarely contestants have made full justice to the original. Andha rare numbers'la IR pAttukkaL athigam. Renu's intha poovilum vaasam undu, Renu sang another song which I dont remember exactly that judges said it was mind blowing - and i remember compli too mentioning abot it in this thread, prasanna and ranjini - muthu maNi maala, Rohith's few numbers, Deepshika's nAnE nAnA, adi aathAdi. Even Barathirajah did well with some IR numbers. Most of Prasanna's IR songs were done quite well - without much to complain.

Now coming to ARR's numbers again few were good but sothappalthAN athigam (ARR felicitation episode is one good example) - Leave the pitching and stuff out. ARR vocals - entha kombanaaleyum match paNNa mudiyAthu enguRathu universal truth. Ajish one of the best out of the lot - completely messed up with Duet and May Madham songs but he did well with kayyil mithakkum. Ravi who seems to be having the chances of winning the title - was not impressive with uyirum neeyE, they basically killed MalargaLE. Aruna was really good with Udhaya Udhaya but other ARR numbers she attempted - went simply unnoticed.

Isaiyil thodanguthammA was attempted by Vijay :lol2: paaduRathukku munnAdiyE result therinjiduchu. So adha kaNakkula naan sEthukala. Last year a girl in 'Paadum Office' contest sang isaiyil thodanguthammA brilliantly. Adhula 10% kooda Vijay paadala.

I understand it is not easy to sing ARR, IR or MSV songs most of the time (for that matter even VS songs) . But thiRamai irukkuRavanga paaduvAnga. That's the reason why ASS contestants suck big time compared to Asia Net guys. IdhathAn ennOda mudhal postla solli irukkEn. Malayalam orchestra people are talented and thamizh is not. But idhE thread'la IR paattu vaasikkiRathu kashtamnaanga. Talent illaathavangaLukku ethuvumE kashtamthAn. They are with very limited skills and talents. AthuthAn main reason. mathathellAm secondary. idhathAn nAn solla vanthEn.

Oru statement upfront. Leaving aside all competitions etc and if you basically disagree with IR songs being the tougher of the lot (kootti kazhichu etc), then i'll leave you be with your opinion (similar to what Plum and I expressed in the other thread w.r.t BGM) :)

I have responded to this in TFM Last song thread. adhavadhu, Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting scored more centuries than any other. So, if someone says "Scoring 30 centuries or thereabouts is very difficult", you will reply "Not at all. Sachin and Ponting have scored many centuries. They have talent. Look at Sadagopan Ramesh. He does not have talent. It is talent that matters and nothing else. Scoring 30 centuries is difficult nu Sachin fans dhaan solluvaanga". Enna logic idhu? :huh:

Vijay : He sang Athiradi song from Shivaji. It was kinda adithadi. not very impressive. Sema shruthi problem. This is not a song for a stage show with limited orchestra.

Raginisri sang Kana karunguyile from Sethu. Intelligent choice to suit her voice and pitch. Irundhaalum kuyilukku appappo voice problems

I couldn't watch Tuesday's episode. But nEthu ellArumE nallA pAdinAnga. Ranjini is definitely a great singer - very versatile. Much talented than Renu. She really did well with MinsAra KaNNaa.

Raagini, Prasanna, Santhosh, Vijay ellArumE nallA pAdinAnga. It was really a nice experience watching all 5 performing well.

Vijay did much better than Ravi - with VanthE mAtharam. RombavE nallA paadinaar. I think it is his most favourite song. "Rahman Sir round nadakkuRappO naan illa..aanA intha show'la eppadiyAvathu intha pAtta pAdanumnu irunthEn" - appadinnu sonnAr.

I strongly feel that Ranjini is the most deserving and she should be right there in the finals.

Great Choice. ivarukku idhu rombavE challenging'ana song. And this song has got a lot of scope for emoting. But he should not get carried away with it and overlook the nuances. One of my all time favourite IR-SPB songs. Fingers crossed. pAkkalAm.

I think Vignesh(?) sang this in the final round of Junior SS, while Krishnamoorthi sang "Sangeedha Jaadhi Mullai". Though it was a good choice and Vignesh did very well (judges liked the improv sangadhi's he had put), it was not enough for Krishnamoorthi's performance. Hope the final is free of controversies and dramas.

Vignesh's was a complete and perfect performance. Krishnamoorthy's wasn't as good as Vignesh's in terms of singing but the song he chose is something that can deceive people easily. oru drama mAthiri irukkum antha pAttu and people tend to get carried away. Looks like everyone has lost interest in this show.

Y/day was first round of finals, with old is gold tag. Sri.MSV was the special guest.

Renu started with the award song Naalai indha velai. Sang well but without confidence, which was evident. - OKva irundhadhu.

Prasanna chose to sing Muthukkalo kangal which IMHO is a wrong choice for an unplugged round and for the finals. Edupadave illai. Oru solo song eduthu paadi irukkalam.

Ajesh stole the show with Unnidam mayangugiren. Stephen Devasi was fabulous on the piano and combined with Ajesh's singing and modulations, it was a perfect choice, well rendered.

Ranjani sang Andha sivagami maganidam sedhi solladi. As usual a neat performance, confident and powerfull.

Ravi chose Then sindhudhe vaanam. Ennamo therila, he was not his usual. After singing his reactions and body language showed that he was not satisfied with his performance. Periya improvisation edhum illai.

Today (Tuesday) will be a round with new songs.

Promo showed Ajesh singing Poi solla koodadhu kadhali. Suitable song for Ajesh.

Ranjani is singing the award number from Mudhalvan - Ulundhu vidhaikayile.

Prasanna edho rare song padinar. Enna songne kandupidikka mudile. Not impressive. So also Ravi. should wait and watch.

perusA ethuvum sollala Nerd. Athigam pEsala avar. ovvoru performance'ku appuRamum 'nalla irukku' appadinnu surukkamAna comments. But at the end he did a small rating and according to him Ranjini's was the best, next Ajish and then Ravi. Prasi and Renu pathi ethuvum sollala. He requested Ajish to repeat the pallavi for him. Ajish did really well. I hope he wins.

Prasanna : Vanthaal Mahalashmiye. This is both classical and also filmy. He will definitely rock in the end. Sema scope irukkara song.

Renu : 7 swarangalukkul ethanai paadal. Hope renu sings with full enthu and confidence. she is losing out on this issue only.

Ajesh ; Paatum naane bavamum naane - This song is a fire walk. Do or die madhiri. The guy is quite smart. hope he does well. Irundhaalum IMHO he will do well with the Balamurali Krishna number - Oru naal podhuma. Voice konjam match agum.

Ranjani : Mannavan vandhaanadi pada poranga. difficult song no doubt. Ranjani's voice is loud so cannot hear her for long time. Indha songum konjam periya song.

Ravi - Isai thamizh nee seidha arum sadhanai. Superb song with high notes. But should be easy for Ravi.

Contest romba tough-a irukkum nu ninaikaren. Let the best one win !!!
