[tscii:a4fc394ac4] Renovation at Nambarai

Tiruppani Kuzhu of Nanmangalam has undertaken the renovation of Sri Gowriswarar temple, at Nambarai village, three km from Thimiri ( on the road between Arcot and Arani) in Vellore district. The temple is dedicated to Lord Gowriswarar and his Consort Devi Kamakshi (also called Devi Maragathavalli). According to sthapatis the temple is more than 900 years old. The kodimaram is about 50-60 ft tall. Despite its present dilapidated state, the temple offers glimpses of the architectural and sculptural splendour that once existed. With initiative from local villagers, renovation work has begun. A rarity found here is that both deities face east — generally the goddess is seen facing south. This is a prarthanai stalam where Nandi Bhagawan faces the Lord directly. Devotees believe that their prayers are fulfilled within a period of 11 pradoshams.

Thimiri and Nambarai are in the vicinity of the shataranya kshetrams worshipped by six great rishis coming within the radius of the Arunachala Hills, Parvata Malai and Kamandala Naga Nadhi. The estimated cost for renovation and consecration is about Rs.3.6 lakhs, The consecration is being planned for January 2009.
