[tscii:23047a109a]Gautham: No idea who impersonated me

K.V. Vasudevan [September 14, 2009, 3:28:37 PM]

After Dhanush and Asin made complaints of impostors fooling around with their fans by posting wrong information on websites, information that ostensibly came from the stars, director Gautham Menon had a similar experience.

Gautham was shocked to find the inquisitive media enquiring about his supposed patch-up with music composer Harris Jayaraj. “Someone has played mischief by impersonating me and using my photo as well. All I can say is that the news is false,” said a disturbed Gautham, wondering how to stop the imposter.

Regaining his composure at the mention of Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya, Gautham said the bilingual will have Nag Chaitanya and Samantha in the Telugu version. “I am planning for a simultaneous release though it is too early to decide on the dates,” he said.

By Moviebuzz | Friday, 18 September , 2009, 08:33

Two of the most eagerly awaited musicals of the year, Gautham Menon’s Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya, the Simbu-Trisha starrer which has music by the emperor AR Rahman and Venkat Prabhu’s Goa, with Yuvan Shankar Raja has been taken by Sony Music.

A spokesperson of Sony Music said: “ VTV and Goa are two of the most eagerly awaited tracks in Kollywood. Gautham Menon is doing his first film with ARR, and the combination is sure to rock. Goa has the proven hit pair of Venkat and Yuvan, which is sure to create magic.”

Both the films have been snapped by Sony Music at record prices, especially VTV, which has touched an eight figure mark.

To state that budget of Gautham's movie wud be less than 1 Crore is bit too much. Obviously I believe ARR's music adds strength to the movie, but the 1 Crore price tag for music rights is not unheard of in Tamil music(Specially when ARR+ Shanker, Rajini movies usually). The key thing to note is its not just ARR who defines the rpice tag, but when he joins hand with a good director. This just reiterates that gautham has moved to the top tier director list and I hope they would continue to work together.

[tscii:669dadbfe9]Simbu & Trisha off to New York
By Moviebuzz | Friday, 16 October , 2009, 10:20

Silambarsan and his heroine Trisha have left Chennai on Thursday night to New York for the last schedule of their romantic musical Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya(In pic: the Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya team).

Earlier the unit including director Gautham Menon had left two days back.

Simbu told Sify.com: “I have signed a film for director Bhoopathy Pandian for Lingusamy’s home production, which will start rolling in May. I plan to do three films in 2010. I know that, this year I didn’t have a single release and my fans are very upset about it. I want to make up for the loss”.

He added, “With this schedule, I will be completing Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya. I am really upset that I will miss my family and bursting crackers on Diwali, a festival I really enjoy. I wish all my fans a very happy Diwali”.

[tscii:c6c72b8fbf]Trisha’s special gift to Silambarasan
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, November 03, 2009]

After the New York trip, Silambarasan and Trisha have become even closer. Yup, read on...

After the pack-up of the shoot, Silambarasan will return to his hotel by late night 10, after visiting New York’s Mayor Office. He would enquire and know about the payments to be made for shooting a film in the city, say the sources. In fact the hero was doing the job of a production manager. And when we were thinking as to why the hero should do such things, sources from Goutham Menon’s office said that Silambarasan is learning the procedures for his own use.

Most importantly, Silambarasan has visited a lot of first-assistant directors of Hollywood in Los Angeles and has enquired about the Hollywood productions.

Whenever the hero starts on such tasks, his close friend would accompany him every time. And that close buddy is our Trisha dear.

After knowing Silambarasan’s aptitude and interest in film making, the girl wished him best of luck. Trisha has also gifted him a software that is used to build auto story board by Hollywood Script writers. And Silambarasan who did not expect such a thoughtful gift from Trisha was very happy about it, say the sources.

The climax portion of Goutham Menon’s ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ was canned in New York. But then sadly, the film’s team was not able to complete the full shoot as it was planned. So, the director decided to match the remaining part in Chennai.

Sources close to Silambarasan say that, he feels that ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ is a milestone in this 25 years long career.

Hmmm... 25 Varusa Cinema Vazhkaikum Vizha Eduthidadhinga Makkaley... (Wink)

Grownup Karadi on screen and as production manager I am really shuddering :shoot: GVM Though Thamarai have written 2 songs earlier it would be interesting to have them in a full album.

dinesh2002
5th November 2009, 07:25 PM
the expectation meter is not based on simbu, and i never did mention about it. but the fact the combination of GM and ARR together and ofcource Simbhu and Trisha along will naturally generate greater hype. but the main reason is becoz of GM with ARR, a new combo after GM had a smash hit with HJ in VA. People r looking forward for the movie more, no doubt because of this. And the fact people r looking 4ward for the album everyday, and rumors on the audio release are created everyday will generate hype for the audio and thus the movie as well.

So if the movie falls out (due to predictable storyline or weak storyline), its a bad thing for ARR and GM.

Thamarai wrote only 2 songs? the rest is by whom?

I dun think GM will let simbhu does his 'usuals' in his movie. I think we might get to see a 'simbhu' from VTV onwards.

[tscii:ba0d0aea37]Indian film crew shoots scenes on campus
By Cerena Chen Published: Monday, November 9th, 2009

Actors rehearse a dance for upcoming Indian film “Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya” in front of the University Chapel on Saturday afternoon. On Saturday afternoon, Bollywood came to Princeton.
Indian dance music resounded across Firestone Plaza as critically acclaimed Indian filmmaker Gautham Menon brought his crew to campus to shoot scenes for his upcoming film “Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya,” or “Will You Come Down From the Sky?” in English. The film, set to appear in Indian theaters in December 2009 or January 2010, will feature familiar Princeton landmarks, at least in its Telugu version. The movie will be released in two forms, each with its own separate cast and language — either Tamil or Telugu, a language spoken in eastern India.

Princeton is a far cry from Chennai, India, however, another of the film’s locations. Asked why he chose to film on Princeton’s campus, Menon said, “We just needed buildings that look like this,” gesturing toward the University Chapel. Also featured in the movie are Blair Arch and Holder Courtyard.

‘VTV,’ as the cast refers to the film, follows the lives of two recent college graduates who fall in love but encounter obstacles to their relationship in the form of strict parents and religious conflict. Playing the part of the male lead and aspiring filmmaker is Naga Chaitanya, who comes from a family of prominent actors and producers and made his film debut only two months ago in “Josh,” which achieved some popularity among young people. His love interest in the movie, a software engineer, is played by Samantha Prabhu, who has experience as a model but is also new to the movie screen.

The film’s producer Ganesh Janarthanan, whom Prabhu affectionately deemed the crew comedian, described ‘VTV’ as a musical, consisting of five to six musical numbers. The music is composed by A. R. Rahman, who won two Academy Awards for his score to “Slumdog Millionaire.” In addition to producing the film, Janarthanan also plays the role of a mentor for Chaitanya’s character, assisting the aspiring director in gaining contacts in the film industry.

In between takes of the dance numbers, Menon explained that he draws inspiration for his movies from life. More than falling in love, therefore, the film’s story focuses on “what happens in the next moment.”

But love is complicated and involves more than just emotions, Menon noted. In his homeland, films often depict inter-religious problems and intercaste conflicts as significant obstacles to relationships. Audiences like to identify with the characters, he added, and they can understand that often “you don’t always get to be with the one you love.”

The lead couple may be luckier than most, however, because after three years of separation, they meet by chance on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. Accordingly, many scenes were also filmed in New York, especially around Times Square.

“Coming from India, it’s very cold,” Prabhu said, wrapped in a thick black coat. This was her first time visiting the United States, she added.

Despite the weather, Prabhu had only positive things to say about the film and her fellow cast members. Menon was “the one person I have always wanted to work with,” she said. “I can’t believe I’ve gotten this opportunity so early in my career.”

Of Chaitanya and Prabhu, Menon said he enjoyed “work[ing] with new people” for their willingness to “explore” and “go to lengths for the film.”

There were also non-Indian faces amongst the film’s entourage, including dancers and other members of the crew. Heather Wildenberger, a freelancer managing the wardrobe and on-set costumes, noted she had only been on the job two days, but that “it’s completely different from anything else we ever do.”

Even after seeing take after take, though, the movie has not lost its luster for Wildenberger. “It’s fun, if you like to dance, to just watch it.”

[tscii:29615c26aa]Goa and VTV in December
November 27, 2009

The Gautham Menon directed Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya with Silambarasan and Trisha will hit the screens in January 2010, perhaps for Pongal. Music for the film scored by A R Rahman will be released in December. It is worth a mention here that the songs of the film are the latest favorites of Trisha. Silambarasan is waiting for the film’s release as VTV is expected to change his image for the better.

Meanwhile Goa, the other gen-next film will have its audio launch on December 23rd. Goa, directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by Soundarya Rajnikanth for Ocher studios would be a hat trick of sorts for Venkat Prabhu et al if it fares well at the BO on the lines of Chennai-28 and Saroja. Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored music for Goa.

A london launch

Gautham Vasudev Menon and his producers have pulled a rabbit out of their hat! They are going to hold the biggest ever audio launch of their forthcoming Silambarasan-Trisha musical entertainer Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (VV) which has music by AR Rahman, in a London theatre on December 18.

It is going to be a red carpet affair, with VTV’s producers flying in nearly 20 to 30 VIP Kollywood celebrity guests from Chennai to London to give an authentic feel to the event. Simbu, Trisha, Gautham along with Rahman will be there at the audio launch.

One of the producers of the film said, “Already, a team from our production unit is in London making all the arrangements for this big event, with a theatre hired for it. Today, our cinema is big worldwide, thanks to the Tamil diaspora which loves Kollywood entertainers, especially musicals. VV is the first release of AR Rahman in Tamil after he got the Oscars. He is already an international brand. So, it will be a major event.”

There are six songs in the film tuned by the ace musician, out of which three will be screened at the London audio launch. Those who have seen some songs from the film are raving about it. A spokesperson of the music company which has procured the audio rights of the film for a record price said, “The songs of Rahman are simply amazing and the picturisation of Gautham Menon is out of this world. The Rahman- Gautham combo is sure to rock. The album will certainly make it to the number one position, it’s awesome.” The feedback from those who have heard the songs are that it is “pure vintage Rahman

Silambarasan feels the songs from the film have come out well, and the story and treatment are fresh and will appeal to all. The buzz is that Gautham has taken special care over the music of the film, as he has a point to prove. Remember that after his fall out with Harris Jayaraj, his detractors were saying that without his favourite music director, he cannot churn out a hit. Now, with the hype surrounding VTV and its music, the film has become one of the hottest projects in the trade. The musical extravaganza is now slated for a Valentine week release in February.[/tscii:53e3abbadf]

:exactly: I think people in India know its being launched in London and that gives it publicity. But the people here in London don't know a single thing about it. Where its happening, who came, its all a mystery to us. Poor event management.

I personally know a few people who attended the audio launch.
It may have to do with the fact that a few of them are musicians
and the rest are involved with the media. You could only attend the event if you received an invite. There were no tickets
sold for this as far as I know.

However, I agree they have been very quiet about this event.
It would have been nice if there was some media coverage.
I hope they at least release a dvd of the event or something.

GM says he wants to take Tamil cinema to the global stage. That's his reason for the launch in London. And if I heard it right, he plans to do the premiere of the movie in the US!

It's got nothing to do with ARRs schedule.

Sure I will try to. Bare in mind I only heard them once.

Omana Penne
singers : Benny Dayal, Kalyani Menon
Malayalam Lyrics : Kalyani Menon

This one is soothing with a very cool beat.

Anbil Avan
SINGERs : Devan Ekambaram, Chinmayi

I cannot remember this song at all!

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa
SINGERS : Karthik
Additional vox : Vivek Agarwal

Karthik did an amazing job. This one is romantic and mellow. Simple haunting melody but works well.

Hosanna
SINGERS : Vijay Prakash, Suzanne, Blaaze
English Rap Lyrics : Blaaze

Very electronic, again cool beat. This song is quite upbeat.

Kannukkul Kannai
SINGERS : Naresh Iyer

This song is the kind of climax of the album, because it is quite powerful. Naresh sings in a different style.

Mannipaaya
SINGERS : A.R.Rahman, Shreya Ghoshal

This song was really good but I have no recollection apart from that fact!

Aaoromale
SINGERS : Alphonse
Malayalam Lyrics : Kaithapram

This song was different also. Has a very wild west feel to it. The voice is very unique and it works well in the situation given. This is a down tempo song.

Rahman interviewed by BBCworld foreign affairs expert Nik Gowing is a honour in itself .

"when i came in 1992, it was monophonic sound. There was no FM channels. music was so similar movie to movie - it was dholaks and violins."

i hope he is reffering to hindi music of 1992 . i disagree with rahman to an extent here. but i understand where he comes from. with all electronica thrust on us in last 17 yrs, we kinda like to hear the acoustic sounds now but imagine a man who had the vision of a superior sound design in mind made to listen to monophonic sounds. he wanted to change that and shows disdain for compositional models which didnt have importance for sound output.

we need a great reviewer equivalent to Richard Corliss's(for movies) stature in music to document exactly how rahman is different from others. the reviewer must acknowledge rahman's vision of sound engineering as the base for music. bcos if someone tries to review rahman on the lines of musical styles, genres, WCM, bass etc they would not find a thing unique abt him. Brangan has the ability but keeps straightjacked into "why others couldnt make it". lets hope for someone :)

It is heartening to see some mature reaction to this The grief that others have given vent to is understandable and when set in the context of many such delays previously it is not surprising. But, just in this specific case, do realize that no official date has been announced by the VTV team. Don't go by what every sundry blog or obscure music store decides to tell you. A launch event is scheduled based on the availability of the people in attendance. Ideally, one would like to see the CDs release simultaneously. But this is a time of the year it is difficult to co-ordinate schedules and the event was held to accommodate people's schedules. The CD is currently being mastered and is expected to release in the first week of January - even on this it's only my indication and not an official communication from the music label or the studio.

Sure I will try to. Bare in mind I only heard them once.

Omana Penne
singers : Benny Dayal, Kalyani Menon
Malayalam Lyrics : Kalyani Menon

This one is soothing with a very cool beat.

Anbil Avan
SINGERs : Devan Ekambaram, Chinmayi

I cannot remember this song at all!

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa
SINGERS : Karthik
Additional vox : Vivek Agarwal

Karthik did an amazing job. This one is romantic and mellow. Simple haunting melody but works well.

Hosanna
SINGERS : Vijay Prakash, Suzanne, Blaaze
English Rap Lyrics : Blaaze

Very electronic, again cool beat. This song is quite upbeat.

Kannukkul Kannai
SINGERS : Naresh Iyer

This song is the kind of climax of the album, because it is quite powerful. Naresh sings in a different style.

Mannipaaya
SINGERS : A.R.Rahman, Shreya Ghoshal

This song was really good but I have no recollection apart from that fact!

Aaoromale
SINGERS : Alphonse
Malayalam Lyrics : Kaithapram

This song was different also. Has a very wild west feel to it. The voice is very unique and it works well in the situation given. This is a down tempo song.

as per the history, the two songs which he mentioned that he cannot recall much are the songs which are gonne be the top songs of the album.... :P

I don't understand what you mean.

I did try to give my honest opinion though, as asked.

The songs were only acoustic covers, however Aromale, oh sana and omana penne were used in various video clips so I can remember them better.

Hey I don't appreciate that kind of accusation, I only gave my opinion. How can you think that your view on the music is the correct one :?
And to the guy who posted after you, I got the tracklist from AR's website.

Maybe one should think twice before trying to be helpful round here.

Isn't he correct? Back in 1992 people who caught Roja songs by surprise over radio remark it was like listening to sounds that never existed till that point. It didn't feel like a conventional Tamil song. That's the innovation ARR brought in.

Others were playing with harmonium and tabla then. Some still are.

^I agree

He was trying to make the point that everything sounded very similar. The song structure and instrumentation etc. I think that is what he was trying to imply by monophonic.

He wasn't the one that discovered music, he did however reinvent music in India at the time. His music was a revelation to many.

Guess Me,
:notthatway: The composer you are talking about didn't even use the harmonium and tabla. No instruments, only human voices! You couldn't even call it music! It was a dark age, we mortals didn't have a clue about any music outside Arakkonam and music, sound and everything started only from 1992! :notworthy:
