Sad!
These 80's actors always bring on a wave of nostalgia for that generation kids. The fist film that came to mind when I read the news of his death was obviously a Visu film where he is paired with Seetha.Prathap Pothen and Kutty Padmini are the son/daughter in law of Visu who always gets into trouble trying to help neighbours.Apart from that Sakalakala Sammandhi,Samsaram......,Varavu nalla uravu(right???) and many more.
Remember a kannada TV serial also with Sadhana.

Kaakka raadha krishnan - as vasanthan the innocent brother of prince manohara - brought out the essence of child like innocence in an adult body - though it was not a fashionable or familiar characterisation psychologically in those days.
Years later when he burst into the scene as the younger brother for manogara - it was a contrasting portrait - gone were the innocence and benevolence - in its place was deep mistrust and hatred towards the elder brother - the movie was Thevar Magan.
One actor bringing out totally different shades and years apart - some years later when I saw him as the "loosu" mansion thaatha in Kaadhalukku mariyaadhai - it was a different shade to the template "loosu" character.
What a talent and what a sheer injustice we did to him by not recognizing him properly.
Now he has reached a place of ultimate equality - hopefully will get born again as NT's younger brother!!

Bollywood's first superstar Rajesh Khanna dies at 69
Actor Rajesh Khanna has died at home in Mumbai. He was 69. The cause of death is not known yet but Mr Khanna had been ill for some time. The cremation will be held at 4.30pm today.
Mr Khanna had been hospitalized on June 23, when he was taken to Lilavati Hospital to be treated for exhaustion, and spent some days having tests. He was discharged on July 8.
Worried fans had lined up outside Aashirwad, Mr Khanna's Mumbai bungalow, on June 21 when he was said to have stopped eating. He was later reported to be "more than fine" by son-in-law, actor Akshay Kumar. Mr Khanna himself appeared on his balcony, visibly weak and wearing dark glasses, to wave at his fans and give them the victory sign.
Mr Khanna had also been hospitalized for a few days in April this year.
Mr Khanna's ex-wife, actress Dimple Kapadia, has nursed him through his illness. They have two daughters together - Twinkle, who is expecting her second child with husband Akshay Kumar, and Rinke who is married to businessman Sameer Saran.
Mr Khanna was the top actor in Bollywood during the Seventies and early Eighties, and is considered to be it's first real superstar. He was the star of romantic comedies and dramas such as Anand, Aradhana and Kati Patanag. He won three Filmfare awards in his long career. Mr Khanna also held a Lok Sabha seat as a Congressman from 19992-1996.

In 2011
CHENNAI: An yesteryear comedian of Tamil cinema submitted a petition with the police, alleging negligence by his son, on Thursday.
‘Loose’ Mohan (82), once a familar face to cine goers, arrived at the police commissionerate in the morning. In his petition to the CoP, he said his son Kartik was not taking care of his basic needs and that he had not eaten for three days. The actor demanded action against him.
Talking to reporters, ‘Loose’ Mohan, a resident of Sali Street in Mylapore, said he had a son and three daughters. His daughters were married. His son Kartik too was married and was staying with him in his house. After Kartik’s wife left for her parents’ house, he had not bothered to come home for the last three days. The actor said he ate frugally, but even that was not being provided to him by his son.
‘Loose’ Mohan’ s last film was Partiban-starrer ‘Azhaghi.’ He has acted in over 1,000 films. The complaint was directed to the Mylapore police inspector.
Behind every comedian's public face, there is a sad story.
RIP Mohan saar :(

It is so bad that we didn't get a talent like this in Tamil cinema. Aayutha Poojai villan role mattum sattunnu mind la varuthu and that captain movie.

So this is more like Thilagan going off to the only place deserved for him - Heaven.

Yeah, but the difference is there were people in Malayalam film industry who still offered him some meaty roles in the last, say 15 years. Stars were not in good terms with him but that did not stop the producers from making him play such wonderful characters. Indian Rupee with Prithviraj, Ustad Hotel with Mamoooty's son and a couple of movies with Mohan Lal all came out after his bitter fight with the stars. During NT's final 15 years, he was awarded Chevalier and might have attended a dozen felicitation functions but acted in craps like Poo Parikka Varugirom and Mannavaru Chinnavaru. :-) I saw even this Thilagan in a spectacular Tamil movie, starring Jithan Ramesh and Namitha...:bangcomp:

Big diff is NT was plagued by various illness that kinda made it impossible for him to act in strenuous and meaty roles. Thilagan's problems were admittedly self made - but look around - there are not many in MF to take on thilagan's mantle. The credit must be given to the new wave malayalam film makers who have stolen the thunder from the big two actor's coterie and have broken new grounds where a performer like thilagan can actually shine with ease. however those years when thilagan was waging a war with the establishment and silly unions in malayalam film world, were a big loss for many of his fans.

CHENNAI: Veteran actress and classical dancer Rajasulochana, who starred in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam movies in the 50s and 60s, passed away in Chennai on Tuesday morning. She was 78 and had renal problems.
"Rajasulochana was known for her dancing. Every film of her had a song and dance number by her," said Randor Guy, film historian. The actor, who was from Vijayawada, debuted in Kannada film 'Gunasagari' in 1953. She went on to act in more than 250 films in all south Indian languages and shared screen space with stars like MG Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, NT Rama Rao, Nageswara Rao and Rajkumar.
"She grew up in Triplicane after her father got transferred here. She learnt Bharatanatyam from Lalithamma and K N Dhandayuthapani Pillai and Kuchipudi from Vempati Chinna Satyam. Her dancing skills led her to movies," said Guy.
One of the first movies that got her noticed in the Tamil industry was 'Pennarasi'. "This had several song and dance sequences that were shot in Coimbatore. She became very popular," said Guy. But what gave her stardom was her role in 'Thai Pirandhal Vazhi Pirakkum' (1958), directed by AK Velan. The songs became instant hits and Rajasulochana went on to act in more movies.
"She ruled the roost for a while along with fellow actor Devika. She was known for her portrayal of sophisticated, well-bred women," said actor and historian Mohan Raman. At a recent interaction at a film club, the veteran said her primary interest remained dance, said Raman.
Rajasulochana set up a dance school, which is sustained by her disciples. "She was more of a teacher there. Also, she didn't act after retiring from the movie industry more than 20 years ago. She was more into social work these days," said Krishna, her son-in-law. Friends like Randor Guy said that she remained her warm, cheerful self despite health problems.
Rajasulochana is survived by her son Shyam Sundar and daughters Sree and Devi. The cremation will be held at the Besant Nagar crematorium at 1.30pm on March 6.

My first glimpse of PB Srinivos was at Woodlands Drive- in a good ten years ago. He was sitting there as inconspicuously as ever, with his bright Sri Charnam on his forehead and his trademark cap. And then suddenly a person in his mid forties came up to him and asked for his autograph. It was then that I realized that the man in front of me was a legend, a person who’s reached the pinnacle of success in music in not only in Tamizh but in several other languages.
It took me a few more years to appreciate his music. My driver had this penchant for yesteryear songs and it was thanks to him that I got a taste of PBSs sweet voice. The first song that really touched my heart was ‘Ninaipathelaam Nadunthivitaal’ and I must have tried to reproduce his rendition a thousand times. There was also this growing sensation in me to go talk to him, discuss about music or probably even sing him a song the next time I meet him. I did get a lot opportunities, but I could never muster enough courage. But my rendezvous with his works continued and till this day Ninaipathelaam Nadunthivitaal, Nilave ennidam and Manidhan enbavan deivam aagalam remain my favourite songs.
I got to hear him at Kalakrithi, a cultural event organized by CEG two years back. I was representing my college in the Group music competition and was awaiting the results, when the Vice Chancellor invited PBS on stage. He sang the opening two stanzas of Nilave ennidam and all that he got in return from the crowd were boos and laughs. It was true that he had lost his voice over the years, but the treatment meted out to him was quite shocking for me. He thanked the crowd and even apologized for a bad throat. I for one was on the verge of tears. I wanted to go up to him, fall at his feet and apologize on behalf of the raucous crowd and say that he still has his fans intact and we still love him. But I could never do so.
Now he is no more with us and all I have left is gratitude for giving me those lovely songs to savour. You may be gone, sir. But your voice and your songs remain……

RIP PBS...
"Manithan enbavan deivamaagalam...." was the first song that attracted me to PBS. A very mild tone and a clear voice and of course the brilliant tune made me look for more PBS songs. This was during my school days. More exploration on PBS made me a big fan of PBS. Whenever i listen to Ungal viruppam in Radio and the moment they announce that the next song is going to be a PBS song a sense of happiness runs through the mind. Even today after hearing so many years and times songs like "Padaatha pattellam pada ...", "mayakama kalakkama...." , "Ninaipathellam nadanthu vittal ... " , " Athi manithan kadallukku pin ... " , " Kannirandum minna minna..." ,etc, i still have the same pleasing feeling which i had when hearing them first time. PBS never dies for me. PBS is with me till my last breadth. Is their a day when i do not hear his voice?

The movies which Manivannan had directed and which I found memorable are : Amaidhipadai, Ganam Kortaar Avargale, Chinna Thambi Periya Thambi, Mudhal Vasantham, Paalaivana Rojaakkal, 24 Mani Neram, Gopurangal Saivadhillai, among others. The movies in which I liked his performance (as a comedian, as a villain, in a supporting role, etc) are too many to be listed here. Death has snatched away a talented actor-director-writer at a relatively young age. May his soul rest in peace, and may God give solace to the family members in their time of grief.

It is a shock the producer of good movies loses his life. The box office results of Kadal and NVP might have resulted, or it could be personal life problems too.
may his soul rest in peace.

:-( The link clearly says he suffered huge losses from Kadal & couldn't release his next film, Madha Gaja Raja. I was wondering all these days why MGR, which was supposed to release last December got postponed to Feb and then got pushed to May but has never released since then. RIP!

Ravi Shankar, the grandson of renowned filmmaker Late LV Prasad, produced films like Vijay’s Nanban, Dhanush’s Mayakkam Enna, Simbu’s Poda Podi and Kamal’s Vasool Raja MBBS.
The recovered body was sent to the Kakinada hospital for post-mortem, while police are investigating whether this is a act of suicide or murder.
A source close to Ravi Shankar reveals to us that the producer was under a lot of mental agony following the huge loss incurred from the distribution of Maniratnam’s Kadal and also his sinking dairy business in Yanam . Because of his financial trouble he could not even release his banners actor Vishal starrer Madha Gaja Raja for more than six months now.
