There some cool video montages on the Jai Ho 2010 blog of ARR's "All Time Hits" and "Romantin Hits":

http://www.jaiho2010.com/

They're the 3rd and 4th videos in the list. (maybe they can be embedded here? :D) I like the romantic hits one.

I can remember listening to something similar to this done by a fan some time ago!

Went to the concert in Atlantic City yesterday... Awesome concert... It was great to see the maestro live after a gap of 10 years.. Unlike previous concerts, ARR sang 70-75% of the songs.. Hariharan sang just 2-3 songs.. Surprisingly Vijay Prakash and Benny dayal played a big part in the show..

ARR started with 3 peppy numbers O saaya, Athiradee and Rang de basanti.. The crowd on hand was great and there were lots of tamil/telugu ppl in the crowd.. ARR went into slow songs with 'Yeh jo desh' and finishing it with 'undhan desathin kural'..
There was a medley in the middle where they were singing qawalis, ghazals etc.. which was good with hari standing out during that portion..The medley slowly changed into religious songs with Ik Onkar bit, O Palanhare bit and then the maestro delivered the song of the night .. 'Khwaja meri Khwaja'.. I still get goosebumps thinking of the experience when he started out 'khwaja jee''...
The medley continued with a difference with songs from 3 languages (hindi, tamil and telugu).. When vijay prakash sang 'oh cheliya' bit (ennavale) and 'Ee hriyadam' bit in Telugu , you could get that the majority of the crowd in the arena were telugu ppl.. Those two bits had the arena shaking.. It would have really satisfied the goltis if he had performed a full telugu song.. The last 20 minutes of the show was really rocking with Chaiya chaiya, Humma,
Oorvasi blended into Taxi Taxi and finally Jai ho and Maa Thuje Salaam...

Overall It was a great experience.. Hariharan was missing at the end and sang only 2-3 songs..
ARR went with many not so famous songs..'Only you' from vandhe matharam.. 2 songs from jaane tu ya na jaana.. 'Holi Re' from Mangal pandey etc.. Lots of stuff from Sllum dog and Bombay Dreams..

Final note, If you are a ARR fan, you should go to these concerts..

Ram,

The future of film music is not very good. Gone are days when films had 5, 6 songs. Now nobody prefers to sit and watch songs. Wait and see.. Indian film industry will slowly refrain itself from songs..

Personally I think songs ruin the movie. They make the film less serious and hence a lot of writers and directors are creatively cramped because they are forced to include songs randomly in their story. Song and dance only works for the standard Bollywood romantic style flick however these days films in India are becoming more action with serious themes, where songs are just inappropriate.
I think songs are better utilised as background score.

Sometimes the thing that draws the crowds to watch a film are the songs. I don't think a poor script will get any better by removing the songs.

Using songs as BGMs works quite well e.g. Aromale in VTV, but chopping up & shortening a song to make them less of a speedbraker really doesn't work. E.g. in Ayutha Elutthu, the Nenjam Ellam song. That just makes the screenplay even more disjointed and abrupt.

That is so true, Nenjam Ellam was craving for a picturization...a nice song spoiled...IMO, internationally, most of them recognize bollywood for thier songs IN the movie, the picturization, the colours, dance....

songs as only soundtracks would b the future...no 1 would have people singing songs..it wil b in background thats it..slowly all r realising it

23rd June 2010, 03:19 PM
There is a place still for films with the 5, 6 songs with their own little picturisation, but these films will become fewer, and will become a genre on their own.

There is a reason Hollywood films don't have random songs in them. Think about it, the hero is chasing down the villain, then breaks into a song and starts dancing. If we want to take Indian films seriously, this kind of thing needs to stop. Movies based around songs are musicals. We need movies that are actually films and can be taken seriously.

I still think an album of song/soundtrack can be released for each film. This shouldn't mean the songs should interrupt the film and have it's own sequence.

Songs should be adapted by the director to fit certain portions of the film, and the focus should be on background score.

[tscii:594dfb006c]A.R. Rahman Reschedules North American Tour
By LISA TSERING
indiawest.com June 30, 2010 03:22:00 PM

OAKLAND, Calif. — Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer A.R. Rahman has rescheduled his concert tour in North America following an accident at a Detroit, Mich., venue. He will now bring his “Jai Ho! A.R. Rahman: The Journey Home” world tour to California in September, according to local promoters in Los Angeles and Oakland. Ticket holders can use their original tickets on the new dates.

The Detroit Free Press reported that 10 people were hurt when a stage collapsed at the Pontiac Silverdome June 19 during setup for that evening’s concert. Two people were kept overnight at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital, while the other eight were released, Pontiac Battalion Fire Chief John Widdis told the paper. Rahman’s team decided to cancel that night’s performance as well as one the following night in Toronto while they decided what to do.

Rahman had already performed the “Jai Ho!” show to capacity crowds and rave reviews in New York, New Jersey, Washington, D.C. and Chicago.

Rahman’s team has announced new dates, including two in California — in Los Angeles, Sept. 11, and Oakland, Sept. 12. (A complete list of new dates appears at the end of this article. As of press time, A.R. Rahman’s official site had not been updated to reflect the new September dates).

A spokeswoman for Rahman said there were no plans to cancel the tour’s six European and U.K. dates in July.

Rahman posted a lengthy comment on his Web site explaining why he felt it necessary to interrupt the tour instead of presenting a pared-down show at the remaining venues.

“As you may know, members of our tour miraculously escaped a big disaster in Detroit … when part of the Pontiac Silverdome infrastructure collapsed on our set,” Rahman posted on his Web site. “All the artists, singers, musicians, dancers [and] technicians (myself included) have been almost given a second life. “We are working to recoup all that has been lost (the lights, the sets) which will take us over three weeks to complete. The vision for the show includes beautiful choreography and circus acts and it feels ‘less than’ not to include them. All the world over, the show has received a very positive response from those who have seen it, which makes it absolutely necessary for us to present a complete show and feature all the components that were lost due to the incident …

“While I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our friends in the U.S. and Canada, maybe it’s a blessing in disguise, as we will have the opportunity to perform for you with even more energy and perfection. “Once again, let us all pray that we are alive and thank you in advance for your understanding, love and cooperation.”

Rapport Global Events in Mumbai, the international organizer for the show, did not respond to India-West’s request for more information by press time.

But artistic director Amy Tinkham issued a statement quoted by the Press Trust of India saying, “The infrastructure at the Motor City's Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit was not strong enough to support a lighting rig and buckled beneath its weight. The apparatus came crashing down, destroying part of the stage. The equipment and sets specially designed for the tour were rendered unusable.” The “Jai Ho!” show features Rahman along with 10 musicians, 10 singers — including Hariharan, Shweta Pandit, Blaaze, Javed Ali, Harshdeep Kaur, Neetii Muhan and Benny Dayal — and 13 top Indian and Western dancers, plus an army of technicians. Giant L.E.D. screens, classical and Bollywood dance numbers, and elaborate stage sets add a modern cutting-edge twist to this new incarnation of Rahman’s show.

The following are the new dates announced for the tour. Ticket holders may present their original tickets for admission to the new shows. The Web site for Singh Entertainment, promoter of the Oct. 2 show in Oakland, states that all ticket sales are final and no refunds will be given, while the Web site for Mehta Entertainment, the company presenting the show in Los Angeles, did not have refund information posted by press time.

Following are the new dates for the tour, as of India-West’s press time June 29 evening:

• Sept. 11, The Forum, Los Angeles • Sept. 12, Oracle Arena, Oakland • Sept. 17: Houston Toyota Center, Houston, Texas • Sept. 18: American Airlines Center, Dallas • Sept. 22: Tsongas Center, Boston • Sept. 24: Sun National Bank Center, Trenton, N.J. • Sept. 25: Pontiac Silverdome, Detroit • Sept. 26: Air Canada Centre, Toronto, Ontario • Sept. 30: PNE Coliseum, Vancouver, B.C. • Oct. 10: Raleigh, N.C. (venue to be announced)

For more information, visit www.arrahmanlive.com or the local promoters’ Web sites at www.singhentertainment.com and www.mehtaentertainment.com.

The UK concerts are also postponed...

Yathu
14th July 2010, 12:32 AM
UK dates will go ahead as scheduled. Zurich, Paris and Mannheim dates have been postponed. From ARRs facebook page:

Regrettably, we are having to postpone part of the current European tour. The shows that were due to take place in Zurich on July 16th, Paris July 17th and Mannheim on July 18th have had to be postponed due to circumstances beyond our control.

The elaborate production and set design includes custom state of the art equipment and staging. After four highly successful concerts, the tour was derailed by a serious accident in Detroit (US), where part of the stage infrastructure collapsed, destroying most of the staging, lighting and musical instruments. The shows in North America have been rescheduled for September.

I regret the inconvenience this causes and apologize to my fans and all those who have contributed to the tour. The shows will be rescheduled as soon as possible. In my 15 years of doing concerts I have always put my fans first. The accident in Detroit has had a profound effect on all of us. The band, dancers and crew and I are all highly disappointed, but it is the fans to whom I send the most heartfelt apology.

The tour resumes on July 23rd in Birmingham and will play as scheduled in London on the 24th and 25th

Went to the Wembley Arena concert yesterday! One word: BRILLIANT! Had a really good time! Tamil songs got the loudest cheers! :) Good selection and balance of Hindi, Tamil and a few Telugu songs!

I really enjoyed the medley of songs they did in the middle. Hariharan got lots of cheers for his vocal acrobatics. So did Vijay Prakash when he did the opening lines of Hosanna. :D

I cheered and whooped so much that I lost my voice by the end of the night!

Everyone gave a standing ovation at the end. The venue wasn't fully packed out, but there was a good turn out. I guess most people went to the O2 arena one on Saturday! I heard the crowd response was phenomenal in that one!

Also, hats off to the whole team who put the show together. The dancers, musicians, lighting, just the whole production was really professional and well put together.

ARR seemed completely comfortable on stage, if a little akward with some of the choreography! I think he sang most, if not all, the songs live and his vocals were very impressive, as were the other singers'.

Anyone thinking about going to the postponed American or European concerts, don't delay, buy a ticket, you won't regret it! :D

LM, I thought the sound arrangements were good. This is the first big concert I've been to so can't really compare it to others.

Maybe it was a bit too bassy but I'm not complaining! Nothing like a bit of dum dum dum to get people excited. :D

ARR's choice of songs for the Jai Ho tour explained:

Many people have been asking me about the selection of songs for the Journey Home world tour. There is a theme to the flow. It's the story of a person's journey of finding his home (India) and experiencing the various flavours of India. We picked the songs to represent these different colours of India.

There are six sections to the concert apart from the opening and closing sections that represent different facets of India - Rural India, Freedom movement, Modern India , Romantic India, Spiritual India and Festive India.

The freedom movement section includes songs like Bombay Theme, Bharat Humko Jaan Se Pyara Hai (Tamizha) from Roja and Azaadi from Bose that signify India's freedom struggle and the patriotism of its people.

Songs like Pappu Can't Dance (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na), Taxi Taxi (Sakkarakatti) and Liquid Dance (Slumdog Millionaire) represent the zeal and zest of the youthful Modern India.

The flavour of folk and rural India is conveyed through Potters Village (Meenaxi), Barso Re (Guru).

Hai Rama (Rangeela), Masakkali (Delhi 6) and tracks from the medley Oh Cheliya (Kadhalan/Premikudu), Hosanna (VTV), Ishq Bina (Taal) form the mood of the romantic India.

The spiritualism of a multi-religious India is told through Ek Onkar (Rang De Basanti), Khwaja (Jodha Akbar) and O Paalanhare (Lagaan).

Ganesh (Bombay Dreams) and Holi Re (Mangal Pandey) celebrate some of the many colourful festivals of India.

There are many songs that we found hard to leave out but we have tried to make the best of the short duration we had for the performance.

For all those who have thronged the venues over the journey of this tour, thank you for your support All the others, hope you will come to watch us and enjoy the show Love you, God bless.

Black and White was my tribute to a legend and friend, MJ, who passed much before his time.

If Endhiran's music released mid July, I assume Rahman Ji would of performed Irumbile at Wembely, London.

aaaahhh, if only :sigh2:

..Next time I'm going to purchase the VIP tik because as devotees, money shouldn't be an issue when we're supporting our favourite artist.

I regret not getting the VIP tik now, but nevertheless at the time I was experiencing an all time ecstatic high and 3 hours just flew by in few seconds lol.

If Rahman Ji does step into your neighbourhood and you do have the option of seeing him, then just go for it regardless of financial issues as I believe you will be purified :D

I was there at the concert and it was an awesome experience. Abdul Kalam was
also there in the audience.
Sept 26th is ARR's mother B'day and she cut the cake while everyone in the Air
Canada Center sang the B'day song. I can never forget this moment in my life.

SINGAPORE: To meet the huge demand of tickets to music maestro AR Rahman's already sold out four-day concerts beginning Thursday, more seats have been added to the Marina Bay Sands Grand Theater.

"Due to the exceptional demand for tickets to the show, BASE Entertainment has just released an additional block of SGD 145 tickets for sale to the public," said Marina Bay Sands in a statement.

The 'AR Rahman Jai Ho Concert: The Journey Home' world tour promises to be a whole new experience and the man himself will vouch for this, the statement added.

"My team and I have come up with a new set of songs for Singapore and this is quite a unique combination of artists and I don't think you'll get to see them again. I am especially excited to perform Robotic from Robo and Endhiran," said Rahman.

When asked about Singapore, the Oscar-winning composer said, "Singapore is my first love. It was the first country I travelled to out of India in 1986, and it was such a radiant city even back then. Now as I take a look around, I am amazed at how it has flourished to become the premier destination for Indian travellers. It is great to be back."

The concert at Marina Bay Sands will be a four-night extravaganza as part of the Singapore leg of his global tour. Rahman has teamed up with creative director Amy Tinkham, best known for stage collaborations with Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys and Mariah Carey.

Rahman's 'Jai Ho' concert tour kicked off on June 11, 2010 in New York and has since toured cities around the globe including Washington, Texas, Toronto, Johannesburg, Cape Town, London,Zurich and Paris.

Maestro's sentimental Singapore concert

'Don't even ask,' said Indian composer, musician and singer A R Rahman, in an interview on Tuesday about the budget for his Jai Ho Concert: The Journey Home World Tour, which kicked off here last night and runs till Sunday at Marina Bay Sands' Grand Theater.

'It's only break-even because we've put so much stuff into the show - but we're very proud of it,' Rahman said, adding that this tour, which has gone to 18 cities already, is in a sense a culmination of what he's wanted to achieve over the past two decades.

It's easier to make music from concerts than CDs these days, but 'not this one; this is too costly to get any money back', he said.

It's been a labour of love that has placed artistic satisfaction over business sense, although Rahman declined to reveal the exact tour budget.

Ten musicians, as many singers, and a dozen dancers take to the Sands' Grand Theater stage each night for a theatrical production directed by Amy Tinkham, who has worked with the Backstreet Boys and Mariah Carey, and therefore knows a thing or two about making a concert visually entertaining. Rahman also sings and plays the piano on stage.

The concert programme spans the last 20 years. He's had a prolific Bollywood career, but is also a big deal in Hollywood after winning two Oscars for the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack, and being nominated again for 127 Hours this year.

The songs switch from Hindi to English to Tamil to Telugu, but Rahman feels the overall production transcends language boundaries and makes the show broadly accessible.

It's a big show designed to be played to a stadium-sized audience, so it wasn't surprising to hear Rahman admit during a press conference on Tuesday prior to the interview that the tour almost didn't come to Singapore.

'It took a while for me to say yes to this because everywhere we went it was 18,000, 22,000, 70,000 and stuff like that,' said Rahman, referring to seating capacities. 'So when I heard 2,000, for sure the mindset had to be different for that. What is good is you can really see everyone and you can sing to them. That's going to be different in a good way.'

There's another reason Rahman said yes to this Singapore stop: He's sentimental. When he travelled outside his native Indian state of Tamil Nadu for the first time in 1986, Singapore was his first stop. He's worked with artists here before, and hopes to explore an orchestral concert of his soundtrack work in future.

Rahman's quiet victory - The Straits Times

Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and the worldwide hit Jai Ho! may have got the world talking about Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, but he remains a man of few words, preferring to let his music do the talking.

On Thursday night, when he opened Jai Ho: A.R. Rahman The Journey Home World Tour 2011 at the Grand Theater at Marina Bay Sands, things were no different.
The low-key maestro, dressed in jeans, a black T-shirt and a long silk jacket, spoke briefly.

First to thank his fans for their love. Then in a short yet heartfelt reminder of what has happened in Japan, he talked about being 'shaken' by the scale of the natural disaster and then reminded the audience: 'Collectively, if we have enough love and compassion, we can keep the world going.'

Love and compassion turned out to be the key elements driving his more than two-long-hour show, which featured 10 musicians, 10 singers and 12 dancers. The visual spectacle kicked off with his hit song O...Saya from Slumdog Millionaire and music from the blockbuster Tamil sci-fi movie Enthiran (Robot, 2010) starring Rajnikant and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan.

From there, it was a display of the sheer diversity of his work: from emotional love ballads, brooding songs, patriotic and spiritual numbers, to his ability to tap on offbeat world rhythms. All these were delivered in a range of languages - Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, Hindi and English. The unique Rahman sound - first heard when the former jingle composer did the music for the movie Roja (Rose, 1992), a love story set in violent Kashmir - was in ample evidence all night.

He pulled out all the stops, alternating between singing and playing several musical instruments, including the piano, the accordion-like harmonium and the electronic keyboard. What emerged was a blend of traditional folk, Indian classical, Western classical and rap songs. As the sound of the flute merged with that of the violin, and as the tabla and the drums played in sync, Rahman paid homage to the varied sounds in the world which have shaped his music.

There were the pulsating rhythms of Chhaiya, Chhaiya (Walk In The Shade), from the Hindi film Dil Se (From The Heart, 1998) and Hello Mr Ethirkatchi from the Tamil film Iruvar (The Duo, 1997). Then there were the soulful and stirring renditions of Vande Mataram (I Bow To Thee, Mother, 1997) and Yeh Jo Des Hai Mera (This Country Which Is Mine) from Swades (Homeland, 2004).

Rapper BlaaZe, who met Rahman in 2001, was part of the musical extravaganza. His rap numbers showed how effectively India's music sensation fuses Indian and Western styles of music making. Always one to acknowledge his roots, Rahman included in his show a particularly touching tribute to legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar, done in his distinct style. A video recording of Mangeshkar and Rahman singing the lilting notes of Luka Chuppi Bahut Hui (Enough Of Hiding), a tribute to mothers everywhere, was one to remember.

Another unforgettable moment happened when singer Harshdeep Kaur sang Ik Onkar (One God), from Rang De Basanti (Paint It Saffron, 2006). All 10 singers, with Rahman working his magic on the harmonium, then paid tribute to India's various religions through a mix of spiritual songs seguing into Khwaja Mere Khwaja (O Saint Khwaja) from Jodhaa Akbar (2008).

Creative director Amy Tinkham's touches were evident in this show, which was a lot tighter and more briskly paced than the Rahman concert here in September 2005. American Tinkham has presided over tours for pop stars Britney Spears and Mariah Carey.

Perhaps, that is why even when it was time to say Jai Ho!, Hindi for 'victory', the audience was reluctant to leave. The maestro mumbled a muted 'thank you' before walking off stage. It was a celebration of a quiet man's genius, which started and ended just the way he liked it: with the unforgettable notes of his haunting music.

Showbiz: Grooving to the Jai Ho beat
2011/03/22

A.R. RAHMAN’s Jai Ho Concert: The Journey Home World Tour at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands’ Grand Theatre ended last Sunday.
The show, presented by Base Entertainment Asia, was “very theme-oriented (as) it goes from one genre to another, expanding musically and pace wise. I am especially excited to perform Robotic from Endhiran”, according to Rahman.

The Oscar-winning composer said Singapore was the first country he travelled to out of India in 1986, and that it was great to be back.

For the tour, Rahman has teamed up with creative director Amy Tinkham, best known for stage collaborations with Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys and Mariah Carey.

“The tour started after winning the Oscars. We wanted to portray all my numbers on a higher scale so anybody in the world can appreciate them.” An international team of musicians and dancers, from the TV reality show So You Think You Can Dance, sizzled the stage with songs from movies including Roja, Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Dil Se, Guru, Jodhaa Akbar, Endhiran and ended with Jai Ho of Slumdog Millionaire (and Pussycat Dolls) fame. Singers included Vijay Prakash, Shweta Pandit and Rahman himself.

Members of the audience, mostly in the peanut gallery, shouted “I love A.R. Rahman”, to which he gently responded, “I love you too. That’s why I am here”.

When they groaned at his choice of Tamil songs in a medley, he said with a smile in Tamil: “The lights are on, and I can see who you are...” I felt the concert was scaled down compared to his show in Malaysia, in 2003. But everyone was on their feet by the end of the show with the uplifting Jai Ho song. – SUBHADRA DEVAN

The show started with a medley of themes starting with kadhal rojave humming, then jumping to the sax solo from Duet followed by the Bombay theme and slumdog theme. Then Rahman started with Tere Bina from Guru . Remo Fernandez came next with Daud,he was one of the highlights..he sang Mukkabula, and his combination with sivamani for Hamma was too good..he made the audience sing Humma at the end,his energy was top notch..Vijay prakash sang Masakkali,hosana..and did a medley of Tumuskura and Manmohini, one of the best performance it was...
there were lot of ghazal songs..Swetha pandit(not sure) sang a few of them..even AR combined with Javed Ali to give a combination of Sufi songs starting with Kwajha..every song literally had a long prelude and connection to the actual song was in perfect sync....Anne Mary gave a violin piece, then Sivamani used 2 sticks and created music by tapping them on the floors with AR..it was a lighter version of Kodu potta..
at one point felt there was a lack of blast songs..but it came to an end when Suresh Peters entered the stage..sang the rock versions of Chikku bukku and Petta rap..
ofcourse AR gave sublime performances from Tere Bina to Irumbile,Jaiho,Anjana etc he then performed on the Piano saying that he hasnt sung that before..dunno which song it was,,i think from Zubeida..he was like so excited..said "shall we do it"..the crowd went crazy when he asked that..then at the end Remo and AR raised the voice against corruption..and ended the concert with Roobaroo, everyone sang it together..
it was perfectly organised show with no hiccups..it was delightful to see AR so excited and happy..being my first..it was divine experience..3 hrs of AR music..

https://www.facebook.com/notes/ar-rahman/the-hollywood-bowl-concert-and-the-dream-of-hearing-orchestral-music-in-india/179623485434032

After doing 26 concerts and maybe 40 to 50 rehearsal run throughs of the Jai Ho concerts, which had many dancers, performers, high profile technicians and great singers and may be half a million people watching it live in different cities, I wanted to go back to my writing table to do other things in music.

When I was in the midst of it, the offer from Hollywood Bowl with the LA Philharmonic orchestra playing my music came in and it was hard to resist.

So, my conductor Matt Dunkley, my management team GSA and me decided to do the dream show which we always wanted to do in LA. The dream was to play significant orchestral themes from 20 years of my movie soundtracks, most of them were unreleased since the idea of releasing a score separately doesn't exist in India much. Songs dominate, big time :-)

It started 8 years ago with the Birmingham Symphony orchestra, and then last year we did one show in the South Bank of London with the London Philharmonic orchestra playing the music.

We wanted to go further in extending the whole experience. Hence, we added new music and (almost) matching film clips playing simultaneously. The Bowl's picnic-like atmosphere, the half moon staring at us kindly, the big screen projecting Rajnikant, Chinese heroes and Aamir Khan was a paisa vasool for many people (I am going by the cheers we got for that :-) )

The LA Philharmonic orchestra along with our very own Naveen (flute) and Asad (sitar) created an unusual blend of of a show I had never predicted...

Since the orchestra playing my music was the main thing here, I wanted to restrain myself from playing or singing too much and it was tough not doing anything :-) I had enough time to give descriptions of the musical themes before they played.

My mind was constantly thinking - when can I play live to my own people back in India with an orchestra like this? It is such joy, which inspires good things when you have these 100 odd extraordinary musicians, choral singers playing and singing together to create a feeling which is melancholic, complex, invigorating and liberating all at the same time...

Have an idea for next year for a similar experience in India, God Willing! Surprise, surprise!!! Will let you know soon..
perhaps i would have been disappointed too, if i had went there thinking it was a full fledged arr concert, but i knew it was gonna be the phil playing his music and him performing a bit here and there, and it does sound awesome to me.

So far from the views presented in various forums and websites, ARR and LA Philharmonics didn't click. It had so much grandeur but the impact was missing. Though it is the orchestra performing ARR's themes, I also feel ARR was a very active partner in all the arrangements.
ARR's strength is his classy electronic synthesizer scores and he could have rocked the Hollywood like he had done in 2006...Instead they went for his Orchestral Themes. Though, only a few themes are uploaded in the internet, I think we should somehow communicate to ARR about the themes he can select for his orchestral scores on stage...

Our fellow hubbers can also add to this list of compositions that he can translate into full fledged WCM scores..I have not added his Bombay Theme, as it is a regular in almost all his concerts.

A few that came to my mind are as under:
1) Bombay Awakes (Bombay Dreams)
2) Only Love (Bombay Dreams)
3) How many Stars (Bombay Dreams)
4) Salaam Bombay (Bombay Dreams)
5) Orchestral Themes in Couples retreat
6) Vennilaavin Theril (Duet)
7) Puthiya Manidha (Endhiran)
8) Theme of Indian
9) Bolo Tum-Kabhi Na Kabhi
10) Waltz for a Romance-Lagaan
11) Oruvan Oruvan-Muthu
12) Desh Ki Mitti-Netaji
13) U Boat Theme-Netaji
14) War Themes-Netaji
15) Ratchagan Theme Music
16) Karisal Theme-Taj Mahal
17) Putham Puthu Bhoomi-Thiruda Thiruda
18) Veerapaandi Kottaiyile-Thiruda Thiruda
19) Uyire(Dil Se) End Credits
20) Kaathu Kaathu-Uzhavan
21) Thiruda Thiruda Chase BGM

These are some of the scores, ARR can translate into a live orchestral fare with these Symphony Orchestras. With his increasing penchant for orchestras, I think he should also include his old unplayed numbers instead of resorting to the cliched numbers..and most probably he should restrict his Jai Ho number...Its becoming a bit mechanical and very artificial...
IMMHO...

We should start a new thread for the 29th December Chennai concert since a lot of us seem to be interested in going for it!

We could may be meetup in Chennai and go together? get the same tickets?

I am planning on flying there from Sri Lanka (if leave and budget permits).

May be even print HUB t-shirts :-D

Loved the 2010 Jai-Ho concert @ Oakland immensely. Looking forward to the Chennai concert... I'll be driving down from BLR :)

When will the tickets be available?

December 29th sounds good. I will be in Sri Lanka at that time. Initial plan was to come to Chennai on the 7th of Jan (on my way to Kabul). But let me see if I can make it on the 29th as well. LM, please keep me on the loop regarding any plans of hubbers attending the show.
