Worst period 1978-1981???

Hamid - adhu due to personal issues. Latha, Ramavaram thottam, hospital, overwork, stress, breakdown. You connect the dots. Films-wise, my personal view is two distinct poor periods: after padikkadhavan, steady deterioration until thalabadhy. Post annaamalai, steady deterioration.

Hamid - Endhiran is a Sangar cementji movie.sangarji is my kryptonite #2. Also not much enamoured by superstar in the movie. Ofcourse, my claim about steady deterioration doesn't hold given Endhiran performance was perhaps better than padaiyappa ec but oru thoraayamaa sonnen. And in the first period, exceptions like Guru Sishyan exist. Just that that period marks my migration to the other camp. Andha pakam Nayagan, Pushpak, Salangai Oli, Appoorva, MMKR. Indha pakkam Manidhan, Maappillai, Oor Kaavalan etc. Do the math.

As Plum mentioned, personally it was not a great time for him. He was not well, working too hard, I think he had a blackout at one point. Plus some other personal problem that I heard about, but not sure if they are true. So, 78 - 81 bad time personally, awesome time career-wise.

Movies dont get released in my town those days.. Mostly watch NT movies in VCR those days and was a NT fan initially.. apart from NT movies we had only Kamal movies and just hated him when my father used to make fun of Rajini in each and every way possible.. then I had become a Rajini fan.. (though still my parents used to say i started punching them while watching Kakki Sattai and they bought that casette for that.. )

then garadully started respecting Kamal and always had high regards for him..but he comes only after Rajini for me...

Toongathe Thambi Toongathe (all the wrong reason to become his fan), I was ten years old. Athukku munnadi, just like-like, as my dad has brainwashed me into becoming MGR fan first. Palikku pali, pulikku puli. I am going to brainwash my son into becoming NT fan. But too young fer now.

Back then considering all of us were Kamal fans, there were liberal dosage of Rajini trashing at home, except for my mother. But how times changed. Brothers are also Rajini fans now. Mom, hardcore. Father too has become Rajini fan (Baasha, overnight), and totally did an underbalti and now commenting on Kamal's dance :argh:. he is still MGR fan, athu onniyum panna mudiyAthu.

As I typed that, I realised that I said "Essence of Rajini" more than once. Obviously, behind that superstar facade lies an awesome actor, whom you could define in multi-dimensional terms, and had his own indescribable "it" thing, something that you could identify as Rajini-ness. Among the wannabe superstars in his footsteps, who has that "it" thing? ANother thing is though I defined the phases of his craeere based on my life and my movmement in and out of his camps, it seems to me my peak fandom of him is up to his free-spirit phase. The phase that moved me away is the phase he got co-opted into the system as the conservative, family-types, lovely, lovable man image. After marriage. So there is something beyond just the quality of the movies he acted in - what we lost because of his superstardom in terms of Rajini's acting skills cannot be measured at all. From the rebellious free-spirit capable of a range of emotions through bhairavi, mullum malarum to polladhavan, he became the lovable cuddly brother, lover, thalaivar. Obviously, he lost some of the zing associate with the free-spiritedness in the process. A lamentable loss to tamil filmdom. I also remember one among Kannadasan/MGR/AVMSaravanan advicing him that "ennappA polladhavan, billa padikkadhavannu padathukku pEru negativEA; nalla positiveA pEru vayyi". Hence the titles became Manidhan, oor kavalan etc. While not explicitly, I think this also saignified his move from his earlier persona to the conventional persona of mid 80s onwards. Wonder if that's got something to do with my migration...indha artistlaam edhukku kalyaanam panni kuzhandhai ellaam pethukkanum. Indha NT, Rajini ivangulekellaam nalla family life illaama irundhirundhaa namakku nalladha irundhirukkumo?

Apparently He had some problems with MGR over a lady issue :lol2: and I also heard he was apparently hospitalised during this 79-81 period. All these personal problems triggered his spirituality path, hence the involvement with Swami Raghavendra !

this is One and only post plum you captured my mind ! To my part I was never in to movies. until I could see some hair in respective places to prove my presence to fellow human beings. I did a decent recap of movies and the only indian actor, who suited my way of thinking was rajini! his attitude was indeed contagious ! His movies gave different flavour to regulars Sambar , pongal.
Hat off to damil audiences in 1970s / 80s for accepting these bold flavor of cinema. unlike current luv luv cow cow generation.

Is KV Anand,Rajinikanth's new director?

The Kollywood rumour mills are on the over drive, that cinematographer turned hit maker KV Anand is Rajinikanth’s chosen one to direct his next film!

The buzz is that Eros Entertainment the producers of Soundarya Rajinikanth directed Kochadaiyaan have signed a two film deal with him. It seems Rajinikanth was impressed by KV Anand’s script and the “commercial viability “of the project.

Anand and Rajinikanth go a long way back. Anand had taken a cover picture of Rajinikanth in early 90’s when he was working as photographer for leading English weekly. Later Anand worked as cameraman of Rajinikanth’s Shankar directed Sivaji.

Meanwhile KV Anand is not willing to confirm or deny the rumour about the Rajinikanth project. The extremely low profile director has tweeted- “Just returned from an exciting Maatran shoot. Suriya was stunning. Getting numerous calls enquiring about Rajini sir news...”

The suspense is building up in Kollywood regarding Rajinikanth’s next project.

Reports about KV Anand directing Rajinikanth after Kochadaiyaan is not true after all. The director has said in a social networking site that it is not true. KV Anand says that he has been flooded with messages and calls ever since this news made it to the headlines.

Wondering where such rumors surfaced from, KV Anand said that he is busy with Matraan, the Suriya starrer and did not even meet Rajinikanth in the recent past.

According to the director, his attention is on releasing Matraan as a summer treat for Suriya fans. KV Anand added that he has not reached a position to direct a biggie like the Superstar yet and all that he can do now is just watch the star’s films.

Rajini is more than a super hero. What he did in films, like leaving a knife in air and let it rorate for few mins, only that thing, that concept is extended by the northies. Its the same stuff which is till today, enjoyed by kids. (section of) Northies have good respect on rajini and they infact use them creatively too. 2 examples i can quote is the RBPS, instead of MPBS for broadband speed & the website which claimed to work on Rajini power instead of internet power.

They are far far far far far more better than what ppl do here, like tha mehaa mokkai punch thantra book & tv programme.

Even the SRK idea to use Rajini is smart one. Poor chap he that the final output didnt match expectation even 1%. If it was done smart, appa ivanga sollura comment e verayaa irukkum! Superstar sings a song !

This is going to be a great news for Superstar fans. Yes sources confirm that the star has croon his voice for a special song in Kochadaiyaan.


Soundarya Ashwin who thought that his father's voice would impact more the crucial scene of the movie went with this idea.

So, they started recording this song under AR Rahman's composition, to their surprise it turned out to be truly emotional adds a source.


Also it is not a usual duet or commercial song, most probably a verse type song on the lines of yesteryear Sivaji Ganesan's 'Thendralodu Udan Pirnadal' from the movie Raja Raja Cholan.

The win arrives piggy-backing on the
Rajinikanth-starrer Robot, which was telecast twice on Sunday, May 2, to
contribute approximately 33 GRPs to the overall channel grade.
Sony Entertainment Television has garnered the highest incremental
GRPs in the Hindi GEC segment, for the week ended May 28, 2011, to add
as many as 34 GRPs to its kitty.

The win was primarily due to the Rajinikanth-starrer Robot that was
telecast twice on Sunday, May 22. It has contributed approximately 33
GRPs to the overall channel grade. The movie was aired at 12 noon, and 8
pm on the same day, to deliver TVRs of 2.4 and 2.5, respectively.


As a result, Sony's channel share has also improved from 11.5 per cent in Week 21, to 14.3 per cent in Week 22.

நாம் : “ரஜினி சாரை நீங்கள் முதலில் சந்தித்தது எப்போது?”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “1984 இல் ‘கங்குவா’ பட ரிலீசப்போ தான். அப்போ நான் ஆனந்த் தியேட்டர்ல மானேஜரா இருந்தேன். அவரோட ஸ்பெஷாலிட்டியே அவரோட வேகம் தான். காரை வேகமா ஓட்டிகிட்டு வந்தார். “டிக்கட் இருக்கா?”ன்னு கேட்டார். படம் அப்போ ஃபுல்லாயிடுச்சு. So, “இல்லே!”ன்னு சொன்னேன். உடனே, எந்த வேகத்துல கார்ல வந்தாரோ, அதே வேகத்துல – ரிவர்ஸிலயே – திரும்பிட்டாரு. சினிமால ஸ்டண்ட் சீன்ல பார்க்குற மாதிரி இருந்திச்சு… அது தான் ரஜினி சார். அந்த ஸ்பீட் தான் ரஜினி சார்!”


திரு.கல்யாணம் : “அந்த ஸ்பீட்லயே நல்லா உயரத்துக்கு போயிட்டாரு. அந்த ஸ்பீடை பார்த்துட்டு நானும் மேலே வந்துட்டேன்!”

நாம் : “அதாவது அவரோட வேகத்தை பார்த்து நீங்க இன்ஸ்பைர் ஆகிட்டீங்க?”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “ஆமாம்!”

நாம் : “ஸ்பீட்னு நீங்க எதை சொல்றீங்க? அவரோட PHYSICAL மூவ்மென்ட்ஸையா? இல்லே செயலாற்றுவதையா?”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “எல்லாத்தையும் தான். அவரோட PHYSICAL மூவ்மெண்ட்ஸ், பேசுறது, நடக்கிறது, டிஸைட் பண்றது எல்லாமே தான்!”

நாம் : “எத்தனையோ படம் அவர் இங்க ஃபோர் பிரேம்ஸ்ல பார்த்திருப்பாரு. அவர் மூவி பார்க்குற ஸ்டைல் எப்படி?”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “படம் 6.30 க்கு ஸ்டார்ட் ஆகுதுன்னு வெச்சிக்கோங்க கரெக்டா 6.20 க்கெல்லாம் உள்ளே இருப்பாரு. தான் விருப்பப் பட்ட படங்கள் தான் பார்ப்பாரு. பார்க்கனும்னு நினைச்சா பார்த்துடுவாரு!”

நாம் : “நான் என்ன கேட்கிறேன்னா நாங்க இப்போ ஒரு படம் பார்க்கிறோம்னா நல்லா ஜாலியா கைதட்டி விசிலடிச்சி ரசிச்சு பார்ப்போம். அவர் அந்த மாதிரி….?”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “லாஸ்ட் கிளாஸ் ஆடியன்ஸ் மாதிரி படத்தை ரசிப்பாரு”

நாம் : “Oh……!!!!!!!!!”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “எஸ்… கடைசி கிளாஸ் ஆடியன்ஸ் மாதிரி படங்களை ரசிப்பாரு!”

நாம் : “அவர் படத்தையா இல்லே மத்தவங்க படத்தையா?” சற்று சந்தேகத்தோடு கேட்டோம்.

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “அவர் படத்தை விட மத்தவங்க படத்தை தான் அதிகம் ரசிப்பாரு அவர். ரொம்ப மைன்யூட்டா ரசிப்பாரு. சின்ன சின்ன விஷயத்தை கூட நோட் பண்ணுவாரு. படத்துல நடிச்ச நடிகர்கள், வொர்க் பண்ண டைரக்டர்கள் கூட மறந்துபோகிற விஷயத்தை அவர் கரெக்டா ஞாபகம் வெச்சிருப்பாரு. “இந்த சீன் இப்படி இருந்திச்சு”. “இந்த சீனை இப்படி பண்ணியிருக்கலாம், அப்படி பண்ணியிருக்கலாம்” அப்படின்னு டிப்ஸ் கொடுப்பாரு. இண்டர்வல் வரைக்கும் பார்த்தா போதும், அதுக்கப்புறம் மீதியை அவரே சொல்லிடுவாரு!”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “இதெல்லாம் எல்லாருக்கும் வராது… ஒரு படத்தோட ப்ரீவியூவப்போ நடந்தது இது. படத்தோட இன்டர்வெல்க்கு முன்னாலயே சரியா பண்ண சீன்லாம் எது, தப்பா பண்ண சீன்லாம் எது அப்படின்னு இப்படின்னு டைரக்டர்கிட்டே இவர் விளக்கம் சொல்லி புட்டு புட்டு வெச்சதும் டைரக்டர் ஆடிப்போயிட்டாரு. அவர் இதை எதிர்பார்க்கலே. ஏதோ கூப்பிட்டாங்க… படம் பார்க்க வந்தோமா போனோமான்னு இல்லாம… ரொம்ப இன்வால்வ் ஆகி பார்த்தது அவங்க எதிர்பாராதது.”

கலைஞர்களுக்கு பாராட்டு அப்புறம் தான் சாப்பாடு

நாம் : “சார் நிறைய பேரை அவர் படம் பார்த்துட்டு பாராட்டியிருக்காரு. அதை ப……….” நாம் சொல்லி வாய் மூடுமுன் கல்யாணம் பதில் சொல்ல ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டார்.

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “படம் பார்த்துட்டு போகும்போதே தன்னோட அசிஸ்டென்ட் மூலமா படத்தோட டைரக்டர் ஃபோன் நம்பர், காமிரா மேன் ஃபோன் நம்பர், வசனகர்த்தா ஃபோன் நம்பர், இதெல்லாம் வாங்கிட்டு போய்டுவார். கார்லய ஃபோன் பண்ணி சம்பந்தப்பட்டவங்களுக்கு இன்ப அதிர்ச்சி கொடுப்பாரு. படத்துல ரொம்ப இன்வால்வ் ஆயிட்டாருன்னா சில சமயம் லிப்ட்ல இருந்து இறங்கும் போதே, “எல்லா டெக்னீஷியன்ஸ் நம்பரும் வாங்கிக்கோங்க” அப்படின்னு அசிஸ்டென்ட் கிட்டே சொல்லிட்டு போய்டுவார். வீட்டுக்கு போனதும் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட நபர்கள் கிட்டே பேசி வாழ்த்து சொல்லிட்டு அப்புறம் தான் சாப்பிடவே போவாரு”.

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “படம் பார்த்துக்கிட்டுருக்கும்போது, அந்தப் படத்தோட டைரக்டரோ, புரொட்யூசரோ, நடிகரோ – படம் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட யாரும் – உள்ளே இருக்கக்கூடாதும்பார். ‘வந்தீங்களா… விஷ் பண்ணீங்களா…. கிளம்புங்க கிளம்புங்க’ன்னு சொல்லி அவங்க எல்லாரையும் பேக் பண்ணி அனுப்பிச்சுடுவாரு”


படம் பார்த்துக்கிட்டுருக்கும்போது, அந்தப் படத்தோட டைரக்டரோ, புரொட்யூசரோ, நடிகரோ – படம் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட யாரும் – உள்ளே இருக்கக்கூடாதும்பார்.

நாம்: “என்ன காரணம் சார் அதுக்கு?”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “ஃப்ரீனெஸ் தான். அதாவது சுதந்திரத்துக்காக. அவங்க கூட இருந்தா சரியா ரசிக்க முடியாது. இவர் சிரிச்சா ஒரு அர்த்தம் சிரிக்கலேன்னா ஒரு அர்த்தம். இப்படி அவங்களா கற்பனை பண்ணிக்குவாங்க. 100 க்கு 90% படம் பார்க்கும்போது அவரை ரிசீவ் பண்ண வர்றவங்களை சந்தோஷப்படுத்தி, ‘நீங்க கிளம்புங்க’ன்னு சொல்லி கிளம்ப வெச்சிடுவாரு. அதனால முக்கால்வாசி நானே எல்லாரையும் எஸ்கேப் பண்ண வெச்சிடுவேன். ‘ரஜினி சார் படம் பார்க்குறாரு. கூட நாமளும் உக்காந்து படம் பார்க்கலாம்னு நினைச்சா நடக்காது’”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “அவர் இந்த நொறுக்குத் தீனி இதெல்லாம் தொடவே மாட்டாரு. பெரும்பாலும் க்ரீன் டீ, லெமன் டீ, மல்லி காபி இது தான். சில சமயம் பிஸ்கெட். அவ்ளோ தான் அவரோட ஐட்டம்”

நாம் : “ஸோ, ரொம்ப டயட் கான்சியஸா இருப்பாரு தலைவர்?”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “ஆமாம்…. மல்லி காபி கொடுத்து பழக்கப்படுத்தினது நான் தான். ‘எந்திரன்’ ஷூட்டிங் செட்ல கூட, மல்லி காபி கல்யான் சார் கொடுப்பாரு எனக்கு. அதே மாதிரி வேனும்பார். சக்ஸ்சேனா கூட என்கிட்டே சொன்னாரு, “என்ன நீ எல்லாரையும் கெடுத்து வெச்சிருக்கே. இப்போ மல்லி காபி ரஜினி சார் கேட்குறாரு. நான் எங்கே அதுக்கு போறது?” அப்படின்னு கோவிச்சிக்கிட்டாரு.

நாம் : “அதாவது உங்களோட ப்ரீவ்யூ தியேட்டர் வரலாற்றுல ரஜினி சார் படம் பார்க்கும்போது நடந்த சுவாரஸ்யமான சம்பவம்…? நிச்சயமா இருக்கும்… அதைப் பத்தி?”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “படையப்பா படத்தோட ப்ரீவ்யூ ஷோவப்போ…. 6 வது ரீல் ஒடும்போது படம் பிரேக் ஆயிடுச்சு. எலி மெஷினுக்குள்ளே புகுந்து ஏதோ வயரை கடிச்சி படம் ஓடிக்கிட்டுருக்கும்போதே ஆடியோ கட்டாயிடிச்சு. சர்வீஸ் என்ஜினீயரை கூப்பிட்டா அவர் சிட்டிக்கு வெளியே எங்கேயே 30 கி.மீ. தூரத்துல இருந்தாரு. அவரை உடனே வரச்சொன்னோம். அவர் 20 நிமிஷத்துல தியேட்டருக்கு வந்துட்டாரு. அந்த 20 நிமிஷ பிரேக்ல ரஜினி எந்த வித டென்ஷனும் இல்லாம ரொம்ப கூலா இருந்தாரு. வேறா யாராவது இருந்தா அதை எப்படி எடுத்துப்பாங்கன்னு தெரியாது. ஆனா அவர் அலட்டிக்கவேயில்லே. ரொம்ப டென்ஷனா எல்லாம் இருந்தாங்க. ஆனா அவர் எல்லார் கிட்டயும் கலகலப்பா பேசி, ஜோக் அடிச்சிகிட்டு இருந்தார். அந்த 25 நிமிஷம் போனதே தெரியலே அவரால. வேற யாராவது அவர் இடத்துல இருந்திருந்தா சத்தம் போட்டிருப்பாங்க. “என்ன தியேட்டர் வெச்சிருக்கான் இவன்?” அது இதுன்னு. ஆனா ரஜினி சார் கூலா இருந்தாரு. இது யாராலயும் முடியாது. அந்த அரை மணிநேரமும் ஒருத்தர் விடாம எல்லார் கிட்டயும் பேசி அந்த சிச்சுவேஷனை அழகா ஹாண்டில் பண்ணினாரு.”


அந்த 20 நிமிஷ பிரேக்ல ரஜினி எந்த வித டென்ஷனும் இல்லாம ரொம்ப கூலா இருந்தாரு. வேறா யாராவது இருந்தா அதை எப்படி எடுத்துப்பாங்கன்னு தெரியாது. ஆனா அவர் அலட்டிக்கவேயில்லே. ரொம்ப டென்ஷனா எல்லாம் இருந்தாங்க. ஆனா அவர் எல்லார் கிட்டயும் கலகலப்பா பேசி, ஜோக் அடிச்சிகிட்டு இருந்தார்.

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “அடுத்து ஏதோ படம் பார்க்கும் போது மேடம் கூட சொன்னாங்க “படம் பாதியில கட்டாச்சு… படையப்பா சூப்பர் ஹிட். அதே மாதிரி இதையும் பண்ணுங்க கல்யாணம் படம் சூப்பர் ஹிட்டாகும்” அப்படின்னு.”

நாம் சற்று சந்தேகத்தோடு “உண்மையா இல்லே சும்மா தமாஷுக்கு சொல்றாரா” என்ற அர்த்தத்தில் பார்க்க…. எங்கள் பார்வையின் அர்த்தம் புரிந்தவர்….

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “சும்மா காமெடிக்கு தான் சொன்னங்க. சீரியஸா இல்லே… நீங்க வேற…”

நாம் : “ரஜினி சார் டாட்டர் சௌந்தர்யா கல்யாணத்துல நீங்க தான் முன்னே நின்னு எல்லாத்தையும் கவனிச்சுக்கிட்டீங்க…. அவரோட 60 ஆம் கல்யாணத்துக்கு வந்தீங்க…. இப்படி எல்லாத்துலயும் நீங்க தான் ஃபர்ஸ்ட். இப்படி அவரோட ஒரு குடும்ப உறுப்பினர் போல நீங்க மாறியது எப்படி?”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “இதைப் பத்தி என்ன சொல்றது. அவரை என்னோட குடும்ப உறுப்பினர் மாதிரி நான் நினைக்கிறேன். அவரும் அப்படியே என்னை நினைக்கிறார். தட்ஸ் ஆல்!”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “ஆனந்த் தியேட்டர் உமாபதி சார் கூட என்கிட்டே ஒரு தடவை சொன்னாரு… “எனக்கு ரெண்டு பசங்க இருக்காங்க. அவங்க நான் பெற்ற பிள்ளைகள் அப்படினா நீ நான் பெறாத மகன்” அப்படின்னார். ஏன்னா நான் அப்படி நடந்துகிட்டேன்”

பாபா – எப்படியிருக்கு ரெஸ்பான்ஸ்னு கேட்டாரு

நாம் : “அவரோட படத்தை பத்தி உங்க கிட்டே அபிப்ராயம் கேட்பாரா… நீங்க என்ன சொல்லுவீங்க?”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “என்ன சொன்னாங்க எல்லாரும்னு என்கிட்டே கேட்பாரு… “சூப்பர்”ன்னு சொன்னாங்க நான் சொல்லுவேன். அவ்ளோ தான். ஒரே வார்த்தைல படத்தோட ரிசலட்டை சொல்லிடுவேன்”

திரு.கல்யாணம் : “பாபா படத்தப்போ மட்டும் எப்படியிருக்கு ரெஸ்பான்ஸ்னு கேட்டாரு. “டிவைடா இருக்கு”ன்னு சொன்னேன்”

தலைப்பைப் படிச்சதும் எங்க ‘ரஜினியும், நானும்’ன்னு எழுதி, சூப்பர்ஸ்டாரும் என் நண்பர்ன்னு சொல்லிடுவேனோன்னு பயந்துட்டீங்கதானே...! இல்லீங்க. அதுல ஒரு விஷயம் என்னன்னா... ரஜினிகாந்த்தை எனக்கு ரொம்ப நல்லாத் தெரியும். ஆனா பாவம்... அவருக்குத் தான் என்னைத் தெரியாது. ஹி... ஹி....

1978-79கள்ல ‘இதயம் பேசுகிறது’ இதழில் அப்ப வளர்ந்துக்கிட்டு வந்த ஹீரோவான ‘ரஜினிகாந்த்’திடம் தொடர் பேட்டி எடுத்து ‘ஹலோ... ரஜினி ஸ்பீக்கிங்!’ அப்படிஙகற தலைப்பில சில வாரங்கள் வெளியிட்டாங்க. அதில் சில பகுதிகள் என்னிடம் இருக்கிறது. ‘சிவமகன்’ங்கிறவரு ரஜினி ஸார் பேசற மாதிரியான நடையிலயே அதை எழுதியிருக்காரு. அதுல இருந்து ஒரு பகுதியை இங்க உங்களோட பகிர்ந்துக்கறேன். உங்களுக்கு ரஜினியைப் பிடிக்கும், தொடர்ந்து படிக்க விருப்பம்னா இன்னும் சில பகுதிகள் வெளியிட உத்தேசம்!

இப்போ... உங்ககூட இன்றைய சூப்பர் ஸ்டாரான அன்றைய ரஜினிகாந்த் பேசுகிறார்:

நான் முதன்முதலா நடிச்ச ‘அபூர்வ ராகங்கள்’ படம் ஒரு வருஷம், ஒண்ணரை வருஷம் கழிச்சுத்தான் *பெங்களூர் பக்கம் வரும். நண்பர்கள்கிட்ட கொஞ்சம் ‘ரீல்’ விடலாம்னு நினைச்சேன்.

எனக்கு ஒரு கெட்ட பழக்கம். தெரிந்த விஷயத்தைக் கொஞ்சம் எக்ஸாஜரேட் பண்ணிச் சொல்லுவது. எதுக்குன்னா Only to attract, not to cheat them.

‘‘படத்தில் முதல்ல இருந்து கடைசி வரை நான்தான் First Hero’’ன்னு அங்க உள்ளவங்களை ‘ப்ளீஸ்’ பண்ணுவதற்காகச் *சொன்னேன். என்னுடைய துரதிர்ஷ்டம், ‘அபூர்வ ராகங்கள்’ படத்தை சீக்கிரமா ரிலீஸ் பண்ணிட்டாங்க. நண்பர்களுக்கு ஆர்வம், பரபரப்பு! *எனக்கோ பயம், தர்ம சங்கடம்!

என்னை வரவேற்க ஏற்பாடுகள் நடந்தது. எப்படி? பலூன்களோட... மிட்டாய்களோட...

திரைப்பட போஸ்டர்கள் ஒட்டப்பட்டன. ஒண்ணா, ரெண்டா... நாலு டிசைன்ஸ்! ஒரு டிசைன்லகூட என் படம் இல்லை. சொல்லியிருக்கிறதோ மெயின் ரோலு - போஸ்டரிலோ முகம் இல்லை. அங்க மறுபடி ஒரு ‘ரீல்’ விட்டேன். ‘‘நட்சத்திரம்னாதான் போஸ்டர்ல போடுவாங்க. புதுமுகத்தை எப்படிப் போடுவாங்க?’’ -அப்படி ஒரு சமாளிப்பு.

ரிலீஸ் தேதி வந்தது. தியேட்டருக்குப் போனாங்க. அங்க வைச்சிருக்கிற போட்டோ கார்டில தேடினாங்க. ஒரே ஒரு போட்டோவில்தான் நான் இருந்தேன்- அதுவும் அவங்க கண்ணில படலை. தியேட்டரில் உட்கார்ந்தாங்க. எப்படி..? பலூனை ஊதிக் கையில வைச்சிக்கிட்டு... நான் திரையில் வந்தவுடன் அதை அடிச்சி, உடைச்சி என்னை வரவேற்க! முதலிலேயே ஸ்வீட் கொடுக்கப்பட்டு விட்டது- பால்கனியில இருககிறவங்களுக்கு. என்னன்னு சொல்லிக்கிட்டு..? ‘‘இந்தப் படத்தில் வர்ற ஹீரோ நம்ம ஃபிரண்டுதான்’’னு...!




படம் ஆரம்பமானது. ‘சிவாஜிராவைக் காணுமே...?’ டைட்டிலில் தேடுறாங்க. அங்க ரஜினிகாந்த்துன்னு இருக்கிறது அவங்களுக்குத் தெரியாது. ‘வருவான், வருவான்’னு எதிர்பார்த்துக்கிட்டு இருக்காங்க- அடிக்கிறதுக்கு. (பலூனை!)

படம் ஓடிக்கிட்டே இருக்கு. பலூன் காத்தும் போயிகிட்டே இருக்கு. நான் திரையில் வரவே இல்லை. இன்டர்வல் வந்திடுச்சி. வெளியே வந்தாங்க. நான் அப்ப அங்கே இல்லே. பெல் அடிச்சது. உள்ளே போனாங்க. திட்டவட்டமான முடிவு பண்ணிட்டாங்க- ‘நான் படத்திலே இல்*லே’ன்னு! ஆனா படம் நல்லா இருக்கு, பாத்திட்டுப் *போகலாம்னு உட்கார்ந்தாங்க. இப்ப காத்துப் போன பலூன் ஜோபியில இருக்கு. நான் ‘ரீல்’ விட்டது தெரிஞ்சு போச்சு.

இன்டர்வெல் முடிந்து படம் ஆரம்பமானது. அப்போது திரையில்... இரண்டு கேட்டையும் தள்*ளித் திறந்து்கிட்டு ஒருவன் வந்து நின்னான்.ந லோ ஆங்கிளில் ஷாட் (Low Angle Shot). எல்லாரும் நிமிர்ந்து உட்கார்ந்தாங்க. எங்கோ பார்த்த முகம் மாதிரி இருந்தது அவங்களுக்கு. கொஞ்சம் நேரம் கழிஞ்ச பிறகு அந்த மனிதன்தான் நான்னு தெரிஞ்சது. எடுத்தாங்க ஜோபில இருந்த பலூனை... ஊதினாங்க காத்தை... அடிச்சாங்க பலூனை..! ‘டப்... டப்... டப்...’

அப்ப திரையில கமலஹாசன் முகம் வந்திருந்தது. கமலோட வரவுக்குக் காத்திரந்து சரியாக, அவுங்க அடிச்சது போல் இருந்தது. எல்லாருக்கும் ஆச்சரியம்... ‘என்னடா கமலஹாசனுக்கு இப்ப பலூனை உடைச்சி வரவேற்கறாங்களே’ன்னு..! அவுங்களுக்கு எப்படித் தெரியும்... எனக்காக அடிச்சாங்கன்னு!

படம் முடிஞ்சது. வீட்டுக்கு வந்தாங்க- என்னை அடிக்க! நான் அங்க இல்லே... ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷனில் இருந்தேன்- மெட்ராஸுக்கு வருவதற்கு!

hmm.. disagree... The majestic yet sarcastic,confident Ramanathan with a witty smile in his face all the while is beautifully portrayed by Rajini and I dont think anybody else would have brough out the expressions as good as Rajini in that movie..

re-releases... there was a lot of talk in Kamal thread.. movies where Rajini and Kamal acted as friends can be a a good pick for re-release now.. Ilamai Oonjalaadukirathu is a good one... Ninaithaale Inikkum etc etc...

Yes.. NI is a good movie for re-release.. But that has been telecasted multiple times and would have seen by all..whereas Ilamai Oonjalaadukirathu is also a very good movie which is not stelecasted much.. Kamal and Rajini will be friends for major part whereas they will be against each other for a while..good comedy too ( better butter etc) it has all the ingredients to be a big hit than NI :)

you are comparing both the films.. As I said before the most important factor is the number of people who would come and see the movie in theater... almost everybody would have seen NI multiple times and may not be excited about it..
whereas IU is a movie which will trigger much more interest if advertised properly with right scenes in the trailer.. ( closeness, enemity, humour, pathos etc)...on that regard I felt IU is a better candidate for re-release.

anyway now we have stepped into comparison.. let me give it a try.. havent seen both movies in any recent times.. but fondly remember watching and loved Murali when I saw it a year or two before.. was thinking how did I miss this movie so far?

Okay, my further reasoning on why NI will attract more crowd.
1. Enggeyum Eppothum alone. It resurged in popularity recently thanks to the remix (or cover, or whatever hell it is) by Yuvan.
2. NI more colourful. More youth-centric, though it is antha-kAlattu youth.
3. Rajini is hillarious, spontaneous hilarity.
4. Speaking of which, the film goes from comedy, to song, to romans, back to comedy. Don't know why it didn't do well then, I thought it was a perfect entertainer.
5. Kamal at his most youthful, Jaya Pradha at her most...okay Sagar Sangamam...well, she was beautiful here too.
6. The other band members too had their own share of comedy.
7. One of the best ever music form MSV.

Why IU will not attract that much crowd.
1. Ennadi meenakshi may suffer from rebuttall from many with that name. Some who sang may even have experience sexual harassment/eve teasing suit. Not helped by Kamal doing Elvis.
2. Frankly, Rajini may have been stylish, but not a memorable role. Betty bought a bitter butter ulpada.
3. No seriously, hardly nay laugh out loud comedy.
4. Taneer karuthiduchu may have been raunchy back then, but now it looks like mating rituals of a water buffalo
5. Rajini/Kamal fight scene looked as sincere as a brawl by a pair of poodles.
