Ok, going to leave out I himself as a choice.
My choice is karthik for aadi thira thannil bhagyadevatha.
One, I think he deserves better recognition and better songs than he is getting now
Two, he actually manages to lift a song with his singing, a feat given to only the spbs and kjys in ir's history.

Although vijayprrakash will win it on merit, I let my karthik bias rule here

Ilaiyaraaja himself for
1. Mella Oorndhu from nandhalala (in fact all the nandhalaala ilaiyaraaja songs
2. Vijay Prakash for Om Sivoham from Naan Kadavul
3. Vijay yesudas for Kaiveesi nadakkura kaathe from Nandalala - try singing this song - very intricate and breathless phases and sruthi transitions
4. KJ.Yesudas (for onnukonnu from Nandalala whata singging yesappu and Aadhiushas from pazhassi
5. Hariharan (for Tum bhi dhoondnaa in chal chalein - one of the best singing in hindi this year)
6. Shaan - Gali mudhi from Paa and shehar hai khoob and batlade from chal chalein
7. Rahul Nambiyaar for countless zesty kuththu songs (rekkai katti from vaalmiki, Sulli kuppam from MAdhiya chennai and more)
8. Karthik (Mouni naanu - surya kanthi and ottesi chebuthaa from Om Shanti)
9. Kunal Ganjawaala - (for maa ganga in Om Sivoham and Edeya baagilu from Surya kaanthi)
10. Tippu (for Jaikaara haakona - again there are some tough phrases to sing in this song he does so well -still no 'Idhu varai naan oru ' from konji pesalaam yet - yet very good.

We miss SPB and Malaysia and likes, but Raja has cleverly moved on in 2009 with a very diverse set of singers and it is the year of 'All India Raaja' so have to get used to different singers bringing in their style and sensibilities to the stable.

This year actually is a cropper as far as male solos go. My top 3 are
1. azhithirathannil - Karthik from Bhagyadevatha - a warm yamuna kalyani here
2. Vijay prakash's roaring OhmShivoham
3. Rahul Nambiar/Tippu win jointly 3rd prize for their swashbuckling "paattu kekka" from "kaNNukuLLey"

For male voice - I want Raja to utilize more of Shaan and Sonu Nigam for his non TFM projects, esp for Hindi, Telugu and Kannada.
Raja , pls avoid Illayaraja, Sriram Parthasaradhy and sparingly use Kunaalwaala

My vote will be for Sriram Parthasarathi. I don't know if he sang any songs for Raja in 2009. He was at his best in Uliyin Osai.
