Voted for uyiruLLavarai Usha :-) Unquestionably a 100% TR product.

OTR is a far superior album musically - the melodies as well as orchestration are exceptional but there was some controversy as to who actually did the instrumental part - whether it was TR himself or AA Raj. I had a couple of +2 classmates from Mayavaram who knew a lot about TR and OTR. These would vouch for TR as the director and song writer of the movie but not so much with the instrumental part.

In any case, following are his best ever songs IMO :
-indira lOgaththu sundari (phenomenal prelude / starting)
-vAsamillA malaridhu (should have avoided the 3rd stanza with repeated interlude)
-vasantha kAlangaL, isaindhu pAdungaL (sweet veeNa work, JC at his best)
-dhinam dhinam un mugham (nice disco)
-vaigaikkaraikkARRe nillu (unblemished sweet number, especially the anupallavi -kARRe, poongARRe, en kaNmaNi avaLaikkaNdAl neeyum kAdhOram pOi sollu - is splendid)
-vizhigaL mEdaiyAm (Julie I love you) of kiLinjaLkaL -movie not in the poll- can fight for the top spot among TR songs
-rAkkOzhi koovaiyilE (can anyday give a tough fight for IR's adiyE manam nillunnA nikkAdhadi)
-idhu kuzhandhai pAdum thAlAttu (frustration cannot be expressed better, nice tune, well sung)
-koodaiyila karuvAdu :-)

I think apart from kilinjalgal.. nenjil or raagam and raagam thedum pallavi also had some good numbers.

Apart from a good MD, TR was an excellent lyricist

entirely objectionable - VTR is a cult figure and a colourful personality - yet he deserves far more respect for his awesome songs in his earlier movies - some even rival Ilaiyaraaja's songs in their melodic and lyrical content "Kuzhandhai paadum thaalaattu","Vaasamillaa malaridhu","Noolum illai vaalum illai", "naanoru raasiyillaa raaja", "Vasantha kaalangaL isaindhu paadungal" - this list is enough to place his work among the "unforgettable" list of TFM.

Jai anna

Are you talking about TRR?? If so, I have mentioned this several times, he was a talented MD! Add the following list to the list

1) Naanum unthan uravai - I even remember SPB once said he found this song hard to sing than Shankaraparanam
2) Oru pon maanai naan kaana - SPB
3) MoongililE paatisathu - SPB

T.R's albums are as popular as Ilayaraja compositions during 80s.

lyrics, rags, singing all fantastic, Jayachandran,Yesudas, Bala and others have given some immortal compositions.

T.shops, buses blasted them too.

more more.... wonderful compositions.
I love them.

T.R with Bala compositions are glittering beauties!

It is abusive, but I burst into Laughter! :rotfl: sorry

Like I mentioned, he is one Talented MD, but I never liked his films, they are mostly Love depressed Films, with extra ordinary sentiments. Last but least if he and his son stayed behind the camera, it may have saved them :lol2: :yessir:

kaadhal oorvalam..... with Chithra is magical!

I love T.R albums. S.P.B is a great asset for him just like Yesudas, Jayachandran etc...

TR as a singer brings his own unique style/charm to film music singing..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Hx6y9hEuK0
This was one of my favourite songs and always TR's gruff voice choking with emotion
made me uneasy. Not an easy pushover this guy. Must have tremendous tolerance
to stand up and keep going in the face of this extreme ridicule that he has to see everyday on the net.

M.A in Thamizh - kavidhai ezudhuvadhil aacharyame illai.
My wonder is at his singing and composing - melodious tunes till the time he started
identifying himself as the self proclaimed B&C center messiah - then it was all down hill.
Having said that - even in that intolerable "Monisha en monalisa" that introduced the
werld famous mumtaj, there were couple of songs entirely hummable and listenable..

Genius talking about how he inspired ARR , Shiva Many others..
And also his flavor of RD Burman , Monty norman , Barry's music.
