Its a combination of Devanagri 'Ra' and Roman 'R'.

This symbol was designed by IIT post graduate Dr.Uday Kumar. He is basically from Thamizh Nadu.India now have a distinct identity joining Dollar,Pound, Euro,Yen.

I read that the Gov won't print the symbol on currency notes and coins but will have as a global symbol of ruppee to avoid confusion between rupiah and another currency (don't remember it)

I think it maybe used in stock market charts and graphs :P

Apart from global recognition, in India, common symbol for Rupee is of course needed. Currently we use (write) either Rs. <amnt> or per the local language of the respective state, 500 ருபாய் for example. This common symbol would be helpful for all, irrespective of any Indian languages, even an illiterate can understand this.

Neengena thee moo kaa katchithondar-a? :lol2: :hammer: i am not affiliated with any political party..
The reason i don't like it is because it is not simple as $ and € symbol.
