Chennai Super Kings

The IPL 2010 and Champions league WINNERS, is considered the best franchise Twenty20 team in the world. Led by the Charismatic leader MS Dhoni and representing the most sportive crowd of India, they have not just played hard - but also played fair, winning the fair play awards of the tournament.

Chennai has been the most consistent team in IPL and is the first team in Cricket circuit to make a legendary name for itself just like the Football teams Manchester United or Arsenal.

Lets cheer this Champion team and discuss about them

Srikkanth - Main Hoon Na

Test:
Plum, as you have said already Dravid is in his last legs as a Test player. Vijay has done decently well in the few opportunities given at Test level. So I am kind of hoping that he would be considered as replacement for Dravid (unless there is some politics to play Yuvi and Raina in the same team or giving opportunities to Pujara). I am assuming Gambhir would be No. 3 (due to his recent test accomplishments) and Vijay would open. That would allow him to settle in the Test team.

ODI:
After the world cup I am sort of predicting (if fans don't mind me saying) another batting slot to open in Indian team. So adhuvum opener role-ngaradhaala Vijay might be tried as there isn't another good opener in the whole country right now (hence DK is opening :banghead:). Again Gambhir would be happy to play No. 3 as he had done in the Australia tri-series in Australia.

T20:
iththai naanga madhikkaradhu illai. But he might still get chances.

So Vijay-ku ore thevai Indian pitches-la sila match. Plus eppadiyum CSK-la velayaandadhaala Dhoni-ya friend pudichiruppaannu (ennai vida chinna paya-nudhaan ir-u vittutten oppicer) nenaikkaren

His opening partnership avg with viru is above 100.... so, i believe he will be surely picked in the squad 4 aus series.

Yeah, I am afraid the Bushrangers have a great chance to improve their NRR as well. Mendis edhavadhu suzhatti vittaarunna undu. Run rate pathi CSK kaval pada thEvai illa. No one can come near CSK run rate.
CSK> +2.567

even if Victoria substantially improve its run rate against Wayamba, they can at the maximum cross Warriors RR, but that too is very difficult.

Plus minus paNNi pArthadhula, I think Bangalore have an edge. They have the better medium pace attack. Praveen and Vinay tend to get underrated. They can surprise on their day although they'll go for plenty on other days. And Durban is supposed to assist medium pacers more.
Our Spin strength doesnt seem that big a threat against a lineup containing Dravid, Kohli, White and even Manish Pandey.
Not to forget Mr Sathappan, who can really hit it big against spinners in small grounds.

CSK depends too much on Raina and incredibly, Vijay. Badri and Anirudha we can pretty much discount unless it is a low scoring match. Dhoni aNNan seemingly has neatly packed the big shots and put them in the loft in Ranchi. Kumble and Steyn arent going to give much. If one of Praveen/Vinay clicks, then Chennai is pretty much the underdog.

http://www.deccanchronicle.com/sports/csk-set-retain-dhoni-raina-766

NAGPUR, Nov. 19: Indian Premier League and Champion League winners, Chennai Super Kings are likely to be the first franchise to hand over player (retention) contracts. India captain M.S. Dhoni, Suresh Raina, M. Vijay and Albie Morkel (overseas) are the four players to be retained by the India Cements owned franchise.

The retained players will be paid a sum of $1.8 million, $1.5 million, $1.2 million and $900,000 respectively. The three Indian players are likely to be signed for the next three years during the course of the Test match here.

It is also reliably learnt that Muttiah Muralitharan has been conveyed the news and CSK will be going flat out for off-spinner R. Ashwin, who played a pivotal role in both the IPL and CL triumphs. Dhoni had said after winning in South Africa that retaining the nexus of the squad will be biggest challenge for the management and the owners are expected to try and retain most, if not all the players.

The governing council that met recently gave their nod of approval for four players to be retained before the floor is thrown open for auction on January 8 and 9. Indian players and others who have played 75% of matches during IPL-3 will go into the auction pool.

Of the five teams left (excluding Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI), only Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils have closing in on their final list of players to retain. Mumbai Indians are all set to retain Sachin Tendulkar, Lasith Malinga, Kieron Pollard (both overseas) and Harbhajan Singh. Sources said the spinner got the nod ahead of speedster Zaheer Khan based on his superior ability with the bat.

Delhi are all set to retain the batting duo of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. Ashish Nehra who shifted from Mumbai after IPL-1 is likely to be the third and final Indian player to be retained. The overseas slot is still undecided.

New outfit Pune Warriors, owned by Sahara, have shown tremendous interest in Raina and have also offered the southpaw captaincy, according to sources. The player has the right to refuse an offer but in the case of Raina, it is learnt he will continue with Chennai.

[tscii:1fc7a5c7bd]Super Kings – top IPL team in status chart!
Monday, Jan 03 2011

Chennai: The Chennai Super Kings topped among all the Indian Premier League teams in the list of status trends in India on the social network site Facebook.

The Chennai outfit, winners of the 2010 IPL and the Champions League titles, was ranked overall eighth in the list, one better than the Tamil cine superstar Rajinikanth.

Under skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Super Kings authored a fairytale success story that saw them bounce back from a near-hopeless position in the IPL and go on to win the title.

The Super Kings’ popularity was also due to their consistent performance in the IPL with a record of reaching the final in the inaugural edition in 2008 and then semi-finals in 2009 before annexing the trophy this year.

The Super Kings went one step further by achieving a rare double by winning the Champions League tournament that was held in South Africa.

Topping the status messages list on a global scale was “Hit Me Up” (HMU) while in India, it was the Commonwealth Games followed by the 2010 World Cup football.

“The results reflect the highs and lows of World events that started a global conversaion, new uses of language online and the sharing of popular culture,” a statement from the website said.

Besides the Super Kings, the top-10 list includes popular Tamil film, the Rajinikanth-starrer and blockbuster Endhiran.

This steyn build up is mainly due to his work on a grassy pitch with the red ball..come on..this is T20 on a flat pitch with the white ball. Bollinger is the right pick.

Raina - good, great infact...but what if he fails or gets injured

Dhoni - 20-80........20 times he score well and quickly, 80 times he would either get out quickly or play slowly.....

Badri - inner circle clear panna boundary/sixer-nnu vechha vena 50 runs adippaaru.....

Morkel - jai channakesava

Bravo - MI would be rejoicing that he missed their bus.......he has lost it long back

Ashwin - good bowling but batting 0

MADDY,

idhE lista ella teamkum podalam... :)

because for every player you can write something like that against their name...

Two things that has to be considered are

1)the team will rock others outside if it has a good day - This team is capable

2) The team will manage somehow even if their key players misses out - This team is capable.

Why would you need badri to clear boundary when you have raina/Dhoni/Morkel who could clear much easier.

Badri is necessay for situations when it was necessary to keep the score decent when the big guns misses to fire.

Hussey - He gives some sort of stability.= and could press the button if necessary. He can hit it long.

Albie had got atleast 4-5 chances to come in at overs 11-12 and hit big, if i remember he scored only in one match hitting some big sixes. his only scoring shot is a swing towards midwicket..

I think this is not a bad move - dream employer rangekku poyiduvaangannu nenaikkaren. With Dhoni at helm, they may build a strong team ethic to compensate for x factor pathans. We got Dhoni for 1.5 ..raina for 1.25 Just imagine how much these guys would really cost in teh bid.

Except Badri we purched for right prices.

Agreed again but my point is, we made it so obvious we wanted to buy him that Kochi and other teams just went for him for the sake of it..

These players didnt come up in auctions yesterday - hope we pick atleast some of em tomorrow

Herschelle Gibbs - unsold first time - can use as opener..
Kemar Roach - useful pacer - but with Bollinger picked not sure if CSK wud go for him
Murali Kartik (India) - surprisingly unsold - with Ashwin in our team, Murali turning away from the right hander wud be perfect
Phillip Hughes - if not Gibbs, we can go for him for opener
Shaun Tait - he can be intimidating, however might break down any day.. but prefer him than bollinger! but too late..

giibs as opener - sutham!! he didnt do too bad for RCB

roach - avan edhukku? with bollinger picked not needed, yes

hughes aa?? - we shud have picked warner, need someone to attack at the beginning

shaun tait??

endru thaniyum indha velinaatu mOgam? ennamo naan en veetukku ponnu thedraapla solreenga.. most of our players are already taken.. Manish Pandey wud be perfect, but he is not in auction which means financial powerhouses like MI or DC or RCB wud get him paying all black money :P

murali karthi - if he is fit..is much better bowler than even ojha...lets see..

Bowling - Bollinger was good for 2 matches, thts it - he is a much less bowler even for Australia off late. Nannes oda accuracy is v.good. atleast a good indian pacer wud have been perfect, we tried for both RP Singh and Irphan - but didnt go ahead with the bidding

Badri as a backup if our batting fails?! come on there are much better batsmen in the auction they cud have gone for - one plus is Badri's fielding though

like whom? quite a lot - At the least i'd have preferred a Dinesh Karthik over Badri - almost same price!

yea, exactly.......

in case of chasing 9+ RPO, i dont think anyone apart from Raina is capable of hitting......they really needed that young fresh blood from australia or England or SA to pep things up........i would have taken these guys as 5th foreign player and maybe instead of Dwayne Bravo also..........i think Dhoni and Flemming's penchant for bits-and-pieces sealed these deals........Flemming who is used to managing only lesser talents during NZ stint is a major factor......

Obbjection your honour, DK has been miserable this season, to say the least. May be he'll come back to form but Badri is already in great form so why miss out. Only problem though is the inflated price he is a much better player in T20 than Badri

Vivs - if we keep on looking at the past i think even Indian team have to hang on to Kapil/Gavaskar/Kumble/Ganguly etc..

an Ashwin along with Murali aint my cup of tea - again whatever we write is their own opinion - wud have preferred Ojha/Vettori/M Kartik or someone else.. and that too for above 1 M - glad atleast CSK didnt lose their mind there

pastaa?..pona varushamnga!!!

Super Kings – top IPL team in status chart!
Friday, Jan 07 2011

[tscii:9e515b8c34]Dougie, Hussey, Ashwin, Badri stay with Super Kings
Saturday, Jan 08 2011

Bangalore: Australians Doug Bollinger and Michael Hussey along with Ravichandran Ashwin and Subramaniam Badrinath will remain with the Chennai Super Kings who bought the quartet along with Dwayne Bravo and Wriddhiman Saha at the Indian Premier League players’ auction here on Saturday.

But the familiar and smiling face of Muttaiah Muralitharan will be missing in the Super Kings line-up as the iconic spinner was picked up by debutants Kochi for 1.1 Million US Dollars.

The Super Kings made a valiant effort to retain Muralitharan, but stopped their bid at One Million US dollars while Kochi upped their ante to bag the affable Sri Lankan.

Hussey, the star Aussie middle-order batsman, commanded a bid of 425,000 US dollars as against his base price of 200,000.

The Super Kings picked up Saha and Bravo, the West Indian all-rounder at their respective base price of 100,000 and 200,000 US dollars.

As regards off-spinner Ashwin, the Super Kings went the distance and topped the bid at 850,000 US dollars while Bollinger, the Aussie fast bowler who played a lead role in the team’s double success last year, came in at 700,000 US dollars.

The Super Kings then outbid Kochi to win back middle-order batsman Badrinath for 800,000 as compared to his base price of 100,000.

It may be recalled that the Super Kings retained four players from their winning squad, including skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay and South African all-rounder Albie Morkel.

As per the IPL rules, the franchises could retain only four players and release the others for the auction pool. In the event, the Super Kings were keen to buy back their players.

The retention of the quartet halved the Super Kings’ auction budget to 4.5 Million US dollars and the team still has 1.3 Million US dollars left in the kitty.

Incidentally, the legendary Brian Lara, compatriot Chris Gayle and former India captain Sourav Ganguly remained unsold as there were no bids for them.

Albie had got atleast 4-5 chances to come in at overs 11-12 and hit big, if i remember he scored only in one match hitting some big sixes. his only scoring shot is a swing towards midwicket..

Murali - he is definitely not a bad bowler - he has records to back him up - but this is a team to build for the next 3 years and being a foreigner i'm glad he is not in the team and take up one slot for spinner - prefer Ashwin any day!

[tscii:5f797d59d3]More teeth to Super Kings attack!
Sunday, Jan 09 2011

Bangalore: The Chennai Super Kings strengthened their bowling attack considerably by picking up Aussie fast bowler Ben Hilfenhaus besides New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris as among the main buys on the second and concluding day of the Indian Premier League player auction, here on Sunday.

Among those retaining their spots in the team were seamers Joginder Sharma and Sudeep Tyagi, while Sri Lankans Nuwan Kulasekara and Suraj Randiv were the other new face in the team.

Meanwhile, frontline seamer Lakshmipathy Balaji moved to Kolkata Knight Riders for 500,000 US Dollars after Super Kings pulled out of the bidding at 475,000 US Dollars.

Also out of the Super Kings squad were South African all-rounder Justin Kemp, Kiwi seamer Jacob Oram, South African fast bowler Makhaya Ntini and Sri Lankans Thilan Thushara and Chamara Kapugedera, all of whom received no bids.

Hilfenhaus came in at his base price of 100,000 US Dollars while Joginder cost 150,000 and Tyagi was purchased at 240,000 while seamer Kulasekara commanded 100,000, his base price.

Styris (base price 100,000), the Brisbane-born Kiwi was the first to get into the Super Kings squad this morning when Super Kings outbid Kochi and secured him for 200,000.

All-rounder Randiv, who bowls off-breaks, had a base price of 50,000 and Super Kings won him at 80,000.

The Super Kings, winners of the 2010 IPL and Champions League trophies, had eight Indian and as many foreign players when the auction went into a lunch break.

The players:

Retained: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay and Albie Morkel (South Africa).

Auction: Indians - Wridhiman Saha (100,00 USD), Ravichandran Ashwin (850,000), Subramaniam Badrinath (800,000), Joginder Sharma (150,000) and Sudeep Tyagi (240,000).

Foreigners: – Michael Hussey (Australia, 425,000), Doug Bollinger (Australia, 700,000), Ben Hilfenhaus (Australia, 100,000), all Australians; Dwayne Bravo (West Indies, 200,000), Scott Styris (New Zealand, 200,000), Nuwan Kulasekara (Sri Lanka, 100,000) and Suraj Randiv (Sri Lanka, 80,000).

Among the biggest casualties of Sunday’s morning session was the legendary Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya who received no bids.
