Note that
1) Abdul Razzaq emerges as only second to Klusener when all round performances are considered
2) Klusener is clearly the statistical winner
3) Flintoff is clearly way inferior to AR and LK
4) Cairns is more reputation than actual performance

If these were Indians, we'd probably be blaming them for failing more often than succeeding(except Klusener) - since we dont worry too much about other countries' win loss record, we tend to remember only the odd occasions these players came off, isnt it?

Picks:

1. Lance Klusener
2. Abdul Razzaq
3. Jacques Kallis (let him do the repair job if the Top 4 fail - Symmo/Yuvraj can do the consolidation and explosion - if S Waugh wins #5, then we can ignore Kallis during the voting phase)

1) Saravana Bevan sheer winner. Born to play for this posisan.

2) Jonadhan is my pick. Given we are packing the team with the greats I don't think we'll ever have to defend on his batting in a crunch. His vandhavarai laabam slog exploits shall do. And for sheer (nija sheer) fielding dazzle. Cultural phenomenon in the post 90s era.

I yam only two nominations.

2. Lance Klusener (ivarappatthi negative-a onne onnu thaan irukkunu thonuthu...creates problems inside the team, but thats ok, i feel our hub team manager/coach mr. plum will take care of that :P !)

Nominations: Klusener, Flintoff, Razaaq.

Note 1: Would have considered Afridi but we already have 3 spinners - Jayasuriya, Aravinda, Sachin plus a specialist spinner (Murali or Warne, I presume). Picking Afridi would load the team with too many spinners.

Note 2: Fellow hubbers, any considerations to NZL #6 ODI specialists like Harris, Cairns or Styris?

If we would have picked Gilchrist instead of Jayasuriya for opener's slot, I would have nominated Afridi over Razaaq.

Mahendra singh Dhoni

vaapas..sorry :)

I nominated them as they form a good combo with yuvraj..now that yuvi is not selected...I nominate a new player

I think its unnecessary for a medium pace all rounder to be in a team, which is going to have 3 best fast bowlers like wasin akram, ambrose, mcgrath. The fourth bowler is obviously going to be warne/murali. The fifth bowling options are jeyasurya(more than handy)/aravinda/steve waugh/sachin.

The number 7 is obviously Gilchrist. I would go for someone who can slog/quick between the wickets and add something new to the team which is full of batting/bowling Legends.

I nominate

Jonty Rhodes - For the sheer impact he had on the cricket loving people. Handy batsman and probably the best fielder the world has ever seen.

Imagine wasim akram/ambrose bowling with jonty mandayan at gully/point

ajithfederer

Lance Klusener : he is/was and continues to be the dream all rounder for every team. Bats astonishingly, takes wickets; bails out the team when you most need em. 1st choice Easily.

Bevan: The same role as above but not being a bowler like Klusener

Chris Cairns: Useful all rounder in a team. Can make wonders on his day.

Most people have nominated so will give this until end of tomorrow - 6PM IST - to close out further nominations.

Poll can run for a week and we'll start the nominations for Pace Bowler #1 meanwhile
(Pushing the #7 Wicketkeeper poll since if Dhoni wins this contest, we dont need a wicketkeeper poll)

AFAIR Klusener scored in and around the 1999 World Cup. mathabadi oru siRappAna nember six-A enakku nyAbagam illai.

Bevan was quite ethanai...

Right from his debut in the mid 90s he has batted and saved matches, scoring at brisk pace, batting with the tail, handling chase pressure and changing match courses.

The last innings I recall is in the 2003 World Cup vs England. It is rightfully remembered as Bichel's match (7 wickets and then a big partnership put on coming in at number 10). But even there the one who played the long innings when everyone around was wilting was Bevan.

Abdul Razzaq
Andrew Symonds
Lance Klusener

Genuine all-rounder Shaun Pollock nominated instead of Andrew Symonds. How I forgot him???:oops2: The man who scored more than 3000 runs and got more than 300 wickets and a great fielder too in both forms of the game. He is right there after Kapil, Imran, Botham and Hadlee. His Economy Rate even in Post-2000s and the man who dismissed the great Sachin more times for single digits in ODIs than any other bowler deserve a special mention.

Anyday, Razzaq is a lot more talented and better "utility" cricketer than Bevan. Heart says Razzaq but head says Bevan (keeping the team composition, in mind). Given the top 3 of the 4 (i.e. Jayasuriya/Lara/Aravinda) are mercurial and can have a group "off day" - and assume that the team is reeling at let's say 50/4 - we need a Bevan to support Waugh at the other end to consolidate the batting.

Also, with Bevan in the mix we will now have all batsmen at the 'top 6' except Lara who could roll their arms over to more than just "make up" for the fifth bowler slot. Bevan gets my nod. :)

I am not a big fan of Bevan. Not an exciting player for me to watch.

Tough choice between Klusener and Symonds.

Klusener is a choice of the hearts. As a school boy I've always wondered at the miracles pulled by Klusener. During the period from his ODI debut to 2000 season he was unstoppable. Saved many matches for SA. A very good player to boot with. Useful bowler.

Symonds: Arguably the best lower order hitter. Can smash attacks and consolidate at will. Main architect of Aus ODI WC Winning team in 2003. Excellent slow bolwer. Terrific fielder.

Voted for symonds .

+1. Very laborious and a typcial "workman" like Aussie labourer at the crease. :lol2: The Border's & Bevan's are best to have in the team for crisis/fire fighting etc. but defy the good old school of thought that left handers come with natural flair/elegance.

All gentlemen having grouse against Bevan's scoring rate, please to check this scorecard (http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/84278.html) and/or watch the innings (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSBisb9iGPM). One of the best ODI knocks IMHO.

This was not an official ODI match. But featured some of the best talend from Asia against Rest of World. Chasing 320 for victory, Waeld XI were reduced to 196/7 after 37 overs. 13 overs, 125 runs needed and only 3 wickets left. That too against a bowling attack comprising of Akram, Vaas, Kumble, Murali & Razzaq. Bevan showed his masterclass in hitting boundaries and picking gaps and kept his team in the hunt. When the last over started they needed 21 runs. Razzaq bowled it and Bevan made 19 runs of it and struck 4 fours, 1 two and 1 single(Caddick runout) in the process. The only reason this match was not tied was because of Caddick not grounding his bat at the non-striker's end while coming back for a two.

Bevan scored 185 runs off 132 balls with 5 sixes that day. What a match and what a knock by Bevan :notworthy:.

chase panni match win pannadhukkapuram scoring ratela enna prachanai...

Bevan is my choice to..

tough to get him out - tail enders can feel safe when he is around - opposition can't relax when he is around - he never shows that he takes team to the victory, but all of a sudden reqd run rate will be under control - occasional china men bowler, can get a couple of wickets when given a chance
