Rajinikanth’s ‘Kochadaiyaan’ music to release in June

The music of Rajinikanth's Kochadaiyaan will release in the month of June and the film is scheduled to hit the theatres by September this year. India's Oscar- and Grammy Award-winning music composer, AR Rahman, who is scoring for Rajinikanth's magnum opus is ready for the music release of the film.

The shoot of the film is in full swing. Only last week, the entire crew of c was in Hong Kong to can a few scenes. It was earlier said that with the completion of two schedules - one in London and another in Kerala - the portions of Rajini had been wrapped up and the remaining scenes would be shot with the other actors by director Soundarya R Ashwin.

However, according to sources, a couple of crucial scenes were shot at a state-of-the-art studio in Hong Kong. "Rajini was in Hong Kong for a week to complete his work," add sources. Being made in 3D using performance capturing technology, Kochadaiyaan will be simultaneously made in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English and Japanese.

Kochadaiyaan team ropes in art students

Soundarya Rajinikanth has roped in 42 students from the School of Arts in Chennai for Kochadaiyaan production design. They will assist the art director of the film Velu.

The students are coming on the board on recommendation of Rajinikanth.

The superstar himself had mentioned sometime back – “To do a film like Kochadaiyaan where there is animation, one has to be an improviser and be imaginative and a visualizer. It is not an easy job as characters and situations have to look real on screen”

Already 60 “concept artist” are working on the project, which is taking more time in the post-production work. Soundarya wants the film to look impressive and for that Rajinikanth’s youthful look in the film will be a major draw.

Rajini's 'Kochadaiyaan' snaps major marketing deals

Eros International a leading global company in the Indian film entertainment and Media one Global Entertainment has announced various marketing and distribution tie up’s for their forthcoming Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiyaan.

First and foremost, Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiyaan satellite television rights have gone to Jaya TV. The audio release of the film is planned in Tokyo and multi-city premieres of the film are being planned across Los Angeles, London and India. It is scheduled to release towards the end of the year.

Eros & Media one have also strategically tied up with Karbon Mobiles to launch 5,00,000 Kochadaiyaan Mobiles to celebrate the release of the film. Brand Rajnikant to move beyond cinemas, think business over film & acting careers

CHENNAI: Rajnikant, the movie star who has never lent his name to any commercial activity so far, will do so for the first time with Anjana Reddy, part of the family that owns the Deccan Chronicle group. Anjana's celebrity commerce firm Collectabillia, which is already working on brand tie-ups for Rajnikanth's upcoming 3-D movie Kochadaiyaan, will extend the Ranjni brand beyond the realms of entertainment.

The appeal of Rajinikanth, 61, the Bangalore-born bus conductor-turned- hero, goes beyond the boundaries of his adopted home Tamil Nadu and the Tamil film industry. He keeps a very low public profile and has never endorsed any brand.

Collectabillia, founded only a few months ago, has tied up with cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and India's number one woman tennis player Sania Mirza on a similar mandate, Anjana, 24, said.

"We are working on extending their brands beyond their respective careers. This doesn't include endorsements," she told ET.

In perhaps Rajnikant's first deal, Karbonn Mobiles will launch an exclusive range called Rajinikanth Kochadaiyaan mobile phones, which will hit the market when the film is released. A Karbonn spokesperson confirmed that the Indian mobile handset maker plans to sell about five lakh Rajinikanth Kochadaiyaan mobile phones.

Anjana, who holds a masters degree in finance from the University of Illinois, is the vice-president for business development at Deccan Chronicle. She is the daughter of Vinayak Ravi Reddy, the vice chairman of Deccan Chronicle that has defaulted on its debt and seen its short-term borrowings being downgraded by CARE earlier this month.

Over a 35-year career and 150 films, Rajnikanth's reach spans thousands of fan clubs from the remotest parts of Tamil Nadu to Japan. On the internet, his mannerisms and style have triggered a huge collection of outlandish factoids, much like for American actor Chuck Norris.

"An example of what we are doing is what the Olsen twins with professional help from Beanstalk have been able to achieve. They have set up a billion dollar business which hasn't got anything to do with their movies or acting careers," Anjana said.

Part of the Omnicom group, Beanstalk is known for its work on brand extensions, including developing actors Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's lifestyle programmes and extending a consumer brand into the restaurant space with the Harley-Davidson Cafe.

The idea has its genesis in Anjana's meeting with Rajinikanth a few months ago regarding Kochadaiyaan. "Rajni sir put me on to (his daughter) Soundarya. That's when this branding idea sparked we wanted to do something different which hasn't been done in the market so far," she said. "Rajni is a global brand and I am looking at global sales. He has a market everywhere right from India, to the Middle East to North America."

Soundarya is directing the movie, which is slated for a December release. In the West, celebrity-branded products have been around for decades. In the early 1990s, Elizabeth Taylor lent her name to the 'White Diamonds' perfume of Elizabeth Arden. Recent examples include rapper 50 Cent lending his name for a vitamin-water brand, former NBA star Yao Min's launch of his own wine label and Lady Gaga's association with the Fame perfume brand.

In India, however, it's still early days for celebrity commerce. Brand consultant Harish Bijoor said there are some efforts on "but most of them turn out to be celebrity managers who swear by their own celebs and can force-fit any brand offering onto them."

The makers of Kochadaiyaan, the upcoming flick of Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth, are eyeing opportunities in gaming and even comic books. The film, India’s first to be based on the motion capture technology that has been earlier used in Hollywood movies such as Avatar, is looking at record overseas collections, said Dr J Murali Manohar, Director of Media One Global Entertainment Ltd. His company is co-producing the movie along with Eros Entertainment. Edited excerpts:

What about gaming opportunities?

Right from day one Soundarya (Rajini’s daughter who is directing the movie) was clear that this has a great gaming potential. It could be a trendsetter for the gaming and film industry. In a major way, this is the first Rajini film to get into gaming. There are no other authorised, copyright versions. We are in talks with top gaming companies. It’s too premature to say more about it now. All international companies have approached us.

Is there a publishing opportunity as well?

Yes and I have an offer too. There are people who want to make comic book out of this. The best comic book companies in India are also enquiring. We are going about this slowly.

What are the plans for Japan, where Rajinikanth has quite a following?

We have a Japanese version. We will have the audio launch in Tokyo. Rajini is one person who has a great fan base there. The movie Muthu was a great hit in Japan and they showed more than 1,500 shows of Robot (what was Endhiran in Tamil). All shows were full. Robot was released in Japan a year-and-a-half after the India release but see the phenomenal response!

How does Japan look as a market for Rajini movies when compared to Hollywood movies?

I don’t want to compare but I can say it’s huge. Already close to a million dollar. The number we are quoting is comparable to any international film.

Is Japan going to be the biggest overseas market?

No. Apart from Japan, US and the Middle East are predominant the market for Tamil movies. Tamil is also predominant in Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. This film could set a different benchmark in the overseas market. I can visualise it breaking records. Endhiran did Rs 20 crore in overseas market.

What about branding tie-ups?

We have had a deal with Karbonn mobiles for a customised Kochadaiyaan phone. We have got offers from every brand that you see on television. They all want to be on the poster somewhere because of the visibility factor. But we want the fill the poster with Kochadaiyaan details and not brands. We will make money out of the box office.

How do you plan to deal with the piracy issue?

Piracy is a major issue. But this movie is 3D, so it would take time to crack it. Piracy happens across the country. But it’s huge in South because in Tamil there are lot of IT professionals who are clued on to the net.

Still, how are you going to keep content secure?

Soundarya keeps a tab on this. She has put everything in place, right from tracking who is coming in and going out of the studio. We have a huge server put up to track what’s happening. People can’t walk into the studio just like that. The Kochadaiyaan team has been given special access cards. And you can only load details into the computer but cannot download anything. And if anything has to be downloaded Soundarya has to give the authorisation code. You can’t take anything on CD or pen drives.

Rajinikanth, Deepika to visit Japan for Kochadaiyaan premiere

While the release date in December for Rajinikanth’s eagerly-awaited opus Kochadaiyaan is being worked out, it’s quite clear that this is no run-of-the-mill release for a Rajinikanth starrer.

All stops are being pulled out to ensure Kochadaiyaan is a historical event for the superstar’s fans.

The film is expected to have a four-city world premiere tour, with Rajinikanth and his heroine Deepika Padukone [ Images ].

One of the cities he will visit is Tokyo.

Rajinikanth, who has a huge fan following in Japan [ Images ], has been planning a visit to the country ever since the Tsunami earthquake earlier this year.

Says a source close to the project, “All the dynamics of a Japanese premiere for Kochadaiyaan are being worked out. Deepika and Rajni Sir are expected to be in Tokyo in December for the premiere.”

The actor’s health issues have been worked out, and he has been declared fit to travel by his doctors.

When contacted, the film’s producer Murli Manohar said, “We’re looking at a gigantic release. The film will be released in separate languages in different parts. We’re planning to give Rajini’s fans a treat.”

Apparently, Rajinikanth is brushing up his Japanese for the special visit.

“He will not be able to dub his own lines in the Japanese version of Kochadaiyaan but he will be able to converse with his fans,” says our source.

Sony's grand plans for 'Kochadaiyaan'

Sony Music Entertainment has bagged the audio rights of Superstar Rajinikanth's magnum opus 'Kochadaiyaan', which has music by A R Rahman, for an undisclosed price.

Confirming the development, Ashok Parwani, associate director - marketing, Sony Music Entertainment, said, "We are extremely excited to be associated with one of the biggest projects that not only appeals to the audiences in the south but to fans all over the world. With such an incredible star cast and India's best music director, the movie positions itself to be a wholesome entertainer."

Parwani added: "This is a very special project for us and we will weave in innovative marketing elements into the campaign to connect with the youth and the fans at large."

Exciting news from 'Kochadaiyaan' team, preparing for release

The rumor mill has been spinning for sometime around 'Kochadaiyaan' for quite some time now and after months of excitement and waiting, the Rajinikanth starrer is finally getting ready for release.

It has been reported that the film, which is being worked on from 3 different countries has reached its final stage and the post-production works will begin in Mumbai shortly. The release is all set for Superstar's birthday, which falls on the unique date of 12/12/12. And guess what, it will be releasing in four different languages - Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Japanese.

The music of the film, composed by Academy Award winner A.R.Rahman will be released by the end of October in Tokyo. That's right, Tokyo, in an attempt to expand Indian cinema's reach to Japan where Endhiran became a roaring hit.

Wait, there's more. Produced by EROS international, the film will be releasing in 3500+ across the globe, including what is possibly the biggest release in India. The grapevine has been abuzz that Rajinikanth`s Kochadaiyaan which was scheduled to release on his birthday Dec 12, has been postponed to Pongal 2013.




Earlier there was a lot of excitement as this year his birthday falls on 12-12-12, supposed to be a very rare and lucky date.




The animation film with lot of special effects got delayed due to post-production work. It has Rajinikanth, Deepika, Jackie Shroff and Sarathkumar in important roles and is directed by Soundarya R Ashwin.

It looks like KS Ravikumar is through, playing consultant to Rajinikanth’s Soundarya Rajinikanth directed Kochadaiyaan. The one time hot shot director has spent nearly two years of his life first on Rana which suddenly became Kochadaiyaan. Now he has officially moved out of the Rajinikanth animation film and has been replaced by director Madesh.

KSR as he is popularly known has moved on and is currently working on Sanjay Dutt’s Hindi remake of Vikram’s Saamy. Remember KSR who has directed nearly 50 films in a career spanning nearly 25 years, is one of the fastest directors in Kollywood who has reputation of completing a film under 100 days. He finshed Padayappa with Rajinikanth under 100 days.

After being postponed to January 2013, Rajinikanth's much-awaited magnum opus has further been deferred to April of that year. The Rs. 125 cr. film is currently in post-production.

what a waste of time : Disagree ... no way. 1D (dialogues audio), 2D or 3D Sivaji is the Boss. Whenever I take long ride, I listen to Sivaji movie. I would laugh sliently each time I hear Suman shouting when Mottai Boss arrives 'Ivan Sivaji ya ... Sivaji-ye than". 2 & 1/2 hours super time pass each time.

No I did not mean the movie, that is never boring , but I was very disappointed with the 3D effects. The life of Pi 3D effects were awesome compared to this.

Yes. Life of PI 3D effects were superb! Worth watching in 3D. Actually, 3D screening is a must. Even story is very good.

Kochadaiyaan audio launch announced!-times of INDIA

Superstar Rajinikanth's fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of his upcoming film Kochadaiyaan and there are rumours doing the rounds that the film might be release in April. Meanwhile director Soundarya R Ashwin (the younger daughter of Rajinikanth) has revealed that the audio of the much awaited movie is set to happen soon.
The film, which has Rajinikanth, Deepika Padukone, Nasser, Shobana, Jackie Shroff, Rukmini Vijayakumar and Aadhi, is under post production. The dubbing of the movie is set to happen next month and further updates on the exact date of the audio launch will be announced soon.
Soundarya R Ashwin tweeted today "Hey all.. Been busy locking the film.in active post production. dubbing next month..will keep u posted on audio release soon... Take care!"
AR Rahman has scored the music for the film and we hear that the team is planning to use the Auro 3D sound in the film. After being in the making for a long time, Rajinikanth's Kochadaiyaan will soon hit the screens and the fans are eagerly waiting for the film, since this is the first offering from their Thalaivar after recovering from his illness.

Locking is introduced in this context first time in Indian cinema and here it means different things like locking the shooting, locking the script, locking the people and probably locking the audience while viewing the movie so they can't escape from the movie halls.

After a combat scene with Deepika in London and singing a song composed by A R Rahman, the 62-year-old ailing star takes Kochadaiyaan to the finishing line

Rajinikanth's legions of fans around the globe may now breathe easy. Their icon's much-awaited film Kochadaiyaan, co-starring Deepika Padukone, has finally wrapped up and could hit theatres later this year. The historical drama, produced by Rajini's daughter Soundarya and Eros, written by K S Ravikumar, is Rajini's first film after his long and serious brush with illness. But Kochadaiyaan's sheer scale and the star's unstable health had led to the film missing its August 2012 deadline.

Ravikumar who wrote Kochadaiyaan when Rajinikanth was recuperating in a hospital in Singapore, said: "We are late because we had to put in a lot more work than we had imagined. We are done with the shoot, and will now start dubbing."

According to the writer, none of the action sequences had to be toned down because of the star's fragile health. "The action sequences were all shot indoor. The audiences will see Rajini in the avatar he is famous for - fit and fabulous," he said.

Though extremely tight-lipped about the film, Ravikumar let it slip that one of the high points in the film is a combat scene between Rajini and Deepika, who plays a princess. "Shot in London, it has the two in a deadly face-off," he smiles, adding, "And it looks stunning."

It is not just the high-octane action sequences that the 62-year-old star has pushed himself to do in the film, he has also sung a track set to tune by A R Rahman. "It was Soundarya's idea," reveals Ravikumar.

Soundarya had attempted to make an animation film with her father, but for some reason, the film was scrapped. "Frankly speaking, everybody was nervous when Soundarya started this film. Rajini Sir had just started to recover. But I don't know why I had a gut feeling that we'll be able to pull it off. Rajini Sir's will power and the blessings of his fans really helped," he says.

Superstar Rajinikanth has begun dubbing for Kochadaiyaan and his dedication and commitment to work has floored sound designer Resul Pookutty. Rajini has completed the dub for the first half of the movie in a single day and Resul shared this in his online space.

He also said that he feels happy to see Rajini hale and healthy like any other Rajini fan would. Resul was involved in the sound designing of Rajini’s previous magnum opus Enthiran and his Oscar exploits are also well documented.

Hello Bro , how are you? . Thaliavar has to really really really work hard in marru-cutting this movie. If you ask me
its an ancient technology (3d Animation / motion capturing etc). Don't you think Hollywood could have dished out more movies like Be-wolf, if it was for masses?. They could have easily made dozen movies,with likes of John wayne , Clint Eastwood , James stewart,Marlon Brando to name a few as main characters ?.

Point is any Veteran Actor (beyond 50s) Can't / Shouldn't Compete as a hero let alone super hero in main stream. It will get tacky beyond a point. And I am feeling same the about Thaliavar after Shivaji. Die-hard fan in me says otherwise (always).
But we (thalaivar fans) have to accept the fact and move on.

Amitabh Bachchan will represent his first Hollywood film The Great Gatsby while Rajinikanth will unveil the trailer of his new film Kochadaiyaan Megastars Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth will come together in a most unexpected way at the upcoming Cannes International Film Festival in May.

While Mr Bachchan will represent his first Hollywood film The Great Gatsby in Cannes, Rajinikanth will be unveiling the trailer of his new film Kochadaiyaan at the festival.

Murli Manohar, co-producer of the southern film, confirmed Rajinikanth's presence in Cannes at the same time as the Big B.

"It's a big moment in the history of Indian cinema. Rajiniji is as excited as a child about the way Kochadaiyaan has turned out. Technique-wise it takes Indian cinema to another level altogether. Rajiniji has shown the rough cut of the film to his close friends. The other day, AR Rahman saw the rough cut and was blown away," said Manohar.

Kochadaiyaan will be finally completed July 15. The release date is to be decided by the end of May.

Apparently, Rajinikanth, 62, has been advised against long air travel. But he is in no mood to stop himself from making that long journey to Cannes, where the annual movie extravaganza begins on May 15.

A source close to the project said: "He is adamant on going. He has become extremely frail. But whenever anyone mentions his delicate health to Rajiniji, he gives the example of Mr Bachchan, who has braved the most serious illnesses and done exactly what he wanted and gone exactly where he wanted in his career."

I want Rajini's full blown hero roles to come in animated versions. In that way, a story/screenplay/director can stretch to unimaiginable plots and characters. That will set a new trend in Indian soil to have a permanent character "Rajini" in action genre and Rajini/his family members can produce. Let them jump into others sector like Rajini's toys, games, and Rajini's channel to maintain the brand.

I second this idea. When jackie Chan Animation Series in CN works wonders with kids, why not Rajini saving the day. I had a similar thought for a minute or so when I was watching Chota Bheem (yes, I did watch Chota Bheem) - How wonderful it could be for the "current" kids to discover Rajini. I also welcome Comic books, those which used to hang in "potti-kadai" in the 80s and 90s (in the likes of Indrajal Comics, Twinkle etc.,)

only recently they have started acknowledging that its an animation film ..

but to be fair to the team, Avatar took more than 5 years to arrive at such a product.. sitting out of Chennai and delivering an high quality within 2 years time is going to be near impossible.. if the story/screenplay is decent/gripping we have to acknowledge this as a good attempt irrespective of the animation quality ..
