View Full Version : Magizh Thirumeni & Arun Vijay - THADAIYARA THAKKA ( GOOD !)

My points ....

1) Its the familiar line of ordinary man in an extraordinary situation - but the director creates sufficent dots to make us keep guessing if the dots form a square or circle or rhombus . Pretty engaging , but lesser than Mouna Guru

2) The male lead presents half a dozen panties with butterfly badge embossed to the female lead and comments " what you have now is like Aunties " - Taml film has grown up !

3) What a relief it is to not to have a Kuthu song just 15 minutes before the climax - Thanks Magizh Thirumeni , the director !

4) I wouldn'y say the story is not unpredictable - but what the director does is to inject events to distract your guess while he proceeds with the straight line - Smart !

5) This should be one the movies where i loved the way the violence has been shot - pretty much Ram Gopal verma types .. and the torture at the start of the film.. WOW !!!! ( and not to forget the swear words and the Tamil equivalent for 'Rape' used frequently )

6) A word to editors - Please avoid this unnecessary flash in a scene in the name of modern editing . A camera frame thats continous with no background score is enough to create the connect with the viewer ..Still , the way the scenes have been stiched .. Kudos to you too !

7) Dead Bodies and tortured face really looks like that - Art & Make up men .. fantastic job !

8) Arun Vijay has done a good job, although the map of the character is not very clear ... IS he a n ordinary man in extra ordinary situation (or) extra ordinary man in extra ordinary situation ... Still , he has done well and deserves a hit from this film !

9) of course, when there is this gorgeous babe mamta babe , the director will ensure that her skin is focused to the 300 strong Skin therapists in the theater , thankfully its limited and hence ........enjoyable !

10) Thaman - Just 2 songs in the movie and both go well with the scenes . BGM is abit loud but uses silence well .

Instead of the last 15 min, MT uses the first 15 min to bring in a Kuthu song. :)

The movie is certainly watchable and should augur well for action movie buffs.

First 15 mins is acceptable to me ... But once the plot has become serious why bring in a forced kuthu in the name of relaxing the situation :(

Director Magizh Thirumeni’s Thadayara Thaakka is a fast moving action packedfilm with lots of twists and turns. It works largely due to its presentation and high-speed editing of Praveen and Srikanth.
It is a straightforward story of an ordinary man who runs a call-taxi service played by Arun Vijay caught in a difficult situation beyond his control and the cascading effect on his life. Selva (Arun Vijay) is a self made man who runs a successful call taxi business. He is in love with Priya (Mamta), a nursing staff in a hospital.

Their marriage is fixed and suddenly Selva is caught in a vortex and gets unknowingly sucked into the world of two deadly brothers Maha (Maha Gandhi) and Kumar ( Vamsi Krishna) who control the city’s underworld and their scheming henchman (Arul Das). Selva becomes a marked man as the gang bays for his blood for a crime he had not committed and has now to prove his innocence if he has to live!

The film at 2 hours and 8 minutes moves at a rapid pace mainly due to Praveen and Srikanth’s fast-cut editing. There are only two songs in the film tuned by Thaman which are melodious. Camerawork of Sukumar especially the night effects are striking. The first part is what makes it interesting, as the pace slackens in the second half due to many unnecessary twists which makes it confusing.

Arun Vijay scores as Selvam, his body language and dialogue delivery is in sync with the character. Why is lady luck not shining for this talented actor? The romance between Arun and Mamta has been well worked out, especially the “butterfly” naughty dialogues. The villains – Vamsi Krishna, Maha Gandhi and Arul Das areriveting. The comedy actors who do the hero friends role like Murgadoss are good.

On the whole Magizh Thirumeni has made a fast paced thriller which has essential speed to keep the audience hooked.

Verdict- Racy Taut Thriller

Thadayara Thaakka is director Magizh Thirumeni’s second outing, the first one being Mun Dhinam Parthene. For his second enterprise Magizh teams up with Arun Vijay with Feather Touch Entertainment producing his venture.

The chaste Tamil title Thadayara Thaakka taken from the famous Kanda Sashti Kavacham appears to give the necessary spunk and fizz to this action centric film which has combined suspense elements in an interesting way.

The promos suggested an all new Arun Vijay and it is indeed true. Arun Vijay who makes his celluloid appearance two years after Maanjaa Velu looks definitely different and fresh. And the actor has certainly given in his 100% to his role as tourist cab owner.

Thadayara Thaakka is the story about an ordinary man who gets trapped in situations beyond his control and the dominos effect it has on his life.

The characterization of Arun Vijay appears fresh as someone who is self made, forthright, shrewd with his finances, zealous to come up in life the right way and with a mind of his own. All the same he is not a machine but still earns the respect and love of his woman. In short this young man knows perfectly what to do with his life. The scene where he seeks the hand of Mamta from her father is a fine example and stands testimony to his characterization.

Levity runs in an unobtrusive manner in TT and surprisingly with the antagonists too. This can be perceived when Arul Das asks if Arun’s friend is the wife of Abishek Bachchan. Arun Vijay’s friend’s comment about the laddus made by Mamta in a harmless manner, Aarathi’s remarks about boyfriends and Murugadas feeling sorry about not knowing the spelling of sorry are all sequences that are replete with intelligent sparks.

While the first half is tightly packaged and renders a curious feeling of what is going to happen post interval, the second half has many events and characters which sometimes confuse the audience. The romance between the lead couple is interestingly narrated in a matured fashion and an influence of Gautham Menon (Magizh is from Gautham’s school) can be perceived in few sequences. There is freshness in execution when suspense unravels on to the audience without any prior notice in a very casual manner when one of the henchmen admits to his deed. Towards the end, the twists and turns in the script are something that happens on astonishing grounds. The events explaining the background of Maha Gandhi’s mistress could have been in a more lucid fashion.

An effortless Arun Vijay dominates the scene and his sincerity and earnestness definitely warrant mention. One might even wonder why success plays a spoilsport with this talented actor. As heroine, Mamta Mohandas’s chirpy, bubbly performance acts as the perfect foil. However the actors who walk away with honors are the bad men Vamsi Krishna and Maha Gandhi, the former is so handsome that it is sometimes difficult to see him as villain. Murugadas, Aruldas and other supporting cast members have done their part satisfactorily.

On the technical side, it is a team that knows its game. Under Thaman’s music, there are just two songs, the Poondamalli and the Kelamale number, the latter’s mellifluous nature is an aural treat to an action filled film. Cinematographer Myna Sukumar’s lighting and tone travels in sync with the script. National Award winning editors Praveen and Srikanth have made their work noticeable through smart cuts.

As TT is an action genre flick, the hard work of Anal Arasu is palpable at every stage and some of the action sequences appear very real and the blows are never over the top. And the narrative structure in some sequences points to an intelligent mind helming the affairs. The perfect example is the scene where Arun Vijay incapacitates Arul Das in a narrow alley.

Credible characters, fairly good screen play and neat performances are the factors that work for TT. However there are a few snag moments in the second half when the script’s journey appears a bit meandering. The downside could be the incessant fight sequences in the second half which may work well with adrenaline junkies but not for the common populace.

Verdict: Thadayara Thaakka, for all action buffs

2/5

After the success of Malai Malai (2009) and Maanja Velu (2010), Kollywood’s young hero Arun Vijay and Feather Touch Entertainment join hands for a third time in Thadaiyara Thaakka, directed by Gautham Menon’s former associate Magizh Thirumeni with Mamta Mohandas as the heroine. The movie will definitely appeal to Arun Vijay's fans as he delivers what is promised and that is complete masala entertainment.

The film revolves around Selva, a left-handed, successful travel agent in Chennai, who ran away from his house at the age of 15 with the second marriage of his father. Priya (Mamta Mohandas) is his fiancé. While the couple is about to be happily married, Selva has the fate of meeting two deadly goons-brothers Maha and Kumar, when they kidnap Selva’s close customer’s husband for money. Though Selva helps her to release her lost husband, a seed of hatred between him and the goons is paved. Suddenly, Maha gets killed and all fingers point to Selva, who indeed has no idea of the murderer. To seek vengeance, Kaha’s brother Kumar and his gang chase Selva and his friends. They destroy his travel agency office and even brutally murder one of his friends. To save his friends and their families from Kumar, Selva takes the responsibility to prove his innocence. But how? Who is the real murderer? All these form the rest of the film.

Coming to the performance of the actors, Arun Vijay has put his best to prove his acting capabilities and of course he has done a good job. Mamta may not have a lengthy role, but she impresses whenever she is on screen. Rakul shows promise and will definitely go places. Among other actors, Vamsi Krishna deserves a special mention. His looks and gestures as a goon suit him, adding more suspense in the flow of the story. Others handle their respective roles well.

Thaman's track match the narrative and the "Poondamalli Thaan" are well picturised too. N. Sukumar's cinematography is another plus point of the film.

The best thing about Thadaiyara Thaakka is that it does not give us a dull moment and for this very reason, the film works.

Director Magizh Thiumeni, after a romantic outing in his maiden venture 'Mundhinam Parthane', has delivered an action fare in his very second venture. A former associate of Gautham Vasudev Menon, he has managed to render an engrossing fare that would be lapped up by action-lovers.

If Magizh Thirumeni's taut screenplay is the major highlight, Arun Vijay's scintillating show is equally laudable. His sincerity and keen desire to live the role adds pep to the proceedings.

The actor carries the whole burden on his shoulders to deliver a packed punch. Unlike his earlier outings where he played an innocent rustic youth, here he is more brainy and brawny. Looking fresh and fit, he suits the role well. In action sequences, his brisk work deserves a pat.

Playing a travel company's owner who wants to excel in life, Arun Vijay has apparently enjoyed the character and seems to be at ease from frame one. Mamta Mohandoss gives him the right company. Her chirpy and bold performance adds life on screen. Their chemistry adds value.

Being an action film, the director has ensured that there are not too many songs for it will put a brake on the proceedings. Just a couple of numbers by Thaman form part of the movie.

Sukumar's camera captures the darker side of Chennai. The racy and slick editing by Praveen - Srikanth duo infuses pace to the proceedings.

Selva (Arun Vijay) comes up in life the hard way. After toil, he starts a travels firm and life seems to be rosy and future looks promising. He romances Priya (Mamta) and all is set for their wedding when a twist occurs. Selva comes across Maha (Maha Gandhi) a dreaded don in the city. He and his brother Kumar (Krishnavamsi) know to speak only through guns and knives. Even the cops and politicians shiver them.

Selva comes across Maha for a reason. But what follows is Maha beaten to death and the blame falls on Selva. Though he denies attacking him, Kumar bays for his blood.

The 'whodunit' search now begins. Selva runs for cover initially. Finally he decides to turn his head back. There begins a riveting revenge drama. The rest is all but blood, gore and unlimited action.

Krishnavamsi, who had done few films in Telugu, is a welcome arrival to Tamil cinema. He is casual and his engrossing performance adds to the suspense elements. Maha Gandhi is one of the typical Tamil villains. The rest of the cast chips in with their best.

Produced by Feather Touch Entertainment, Thadaiyara Thaakka is a free flowing action fare sure to keep the audience glued to their seats.

Thadaiyara Thaakka - Action, Satisfaction

Scene 1 : A husband kills the mother with the Ammi kal - and lifts it to kill his son ..and we see blood stains in the ammi kal with some hair stuck to it - Understand this is a very simple thing, but when showed in a dim light with anger in the man's face , i thought it was very good direction, without showing too much blood !

Really liked TT. I have no idea if the story is original or not. Arun seems like a highly under rated actor. So went back and saw some of his other movies and liked most of them. But then that is me. Like to watch and enjoy all movies. Much better than Mouna Guru, and I liked that movie too! Better than Mouna Guru primarily because the lead actor in that movie cannot seem to emote / act.
