Amitabh Bachchan will be starring in the remake of the Rajnikant blockbuster, Chandramukhi. To be directed by Telegu filmmaker V Naren Aditya, the film will be produced by K S Rama Rao and Sa Re Ga Ma. “Yes I approached Amitji for the lead role and he has verbally agreed to do the film,” confirms Naren Aditya. The film was recently made in Tamil and Telegu and it created a business of Rs 100 crore, breaking all the records of South Indian cinema. The film was first made in Malayalam in 1994 by director Fazil. Later the film was made in Kannada.
Incidentally many Bollywood filmmakers like Boney Kapoor and Aditya Chopra wanted to buy the rights of this film in Hindi, but it was producer K R Rama Rao and his company Creative Commercial which brought the right of the film. “Amitabh will be playing the role of a psychiatrist in my film. I am following the original Malayalam script and screenplay because we bought the rights from the Malayalam producer. Not just that, the original script is more complete. I have made it slightly contemporary and had made minor changes in the script. The film begins in New York and later the plot shifts to Jodhpur and Jaisalmer area. Amitabh comes to India from NY for the treatment of the female protagonist in my film,” reveals the director.
He is yet to finalise the actress for the film. “I am looking for a very powerful actress who also is a good classical dancer,” he says. “Certain sections of the media reported that I had approached Aishwarya Rai for the role, which is untrue. I know that she is very pretty, but I want someone who can carry the seriousness of the character in the film.”
He is considering A R Rahman to compose music for the film. “Music plays an extremely important role in my film. It's basically a thriller, which needs to have some music impact in the narration,” he adds.
The film will go on the floors by the end of this year. “We could have started the film few months earlier, but Mr Bachchan fell ill and all his dates were re-scheduled. Now he is working and I hope that we will get our dates soon,” he says
