IR and Hindi! Kiru, i dont believe that theory !
Yes, but I think it just happened in one song. If I am not wrong it was told by some director while praising IR's involvement towards composing for a situation.Quote:

Gulzar and Javed Akhtar are the only two lyricists who are carrying the legacy of 'Good lyrics'. Prasoon Joshi is new and he is showing his own new but good style of writing. Thanks for pointing out that he wrote 'Kaun Dagar'.
Swanand Kirkire is also good.
Sameer's work is pedestrain. It is just that IR doesnt know Hindi (meaning, the essence of the language, the sensibilities and the poetry that can come out it, rather than plain knowing the talkative aspect of the language) that he chooses Sameer. Thats quite sad. Cheeni Kum did have OK lyrics, but i think if Gulzar or Javed Akhtar wrote them, they would have done super justice. Frankly, i did not find Cheeni Kum lyrics to be great, they were just not-bad and just there.
Does IR choose the lyricists in Hindi? Did he ever work with Gulzar on any film besides Sadma?
Superb advance booking for NK in Satyam

"mella oorndhu" is the best song imo after "onnukkonu", and its also the perfect "montage" song. It would have been easy to fit it in the film... wonder what Mysskin was thinking...
I would have simply loved "mella orrndhu" only if it were sung by a female singer with caliber of SJ/Chitra . Most of the songs are based on Shankarabharanam scale. to give a light feel unlike heavy duty stuff like Rasikapriya/PanthuvaraaLi/Hamsanandhi which he resorted to in the case of NK. How I wish Myshkin excluded that boring "thaalaattu ketka" and accommodated the rest !!!
BTW, "Kai veesi" is of "Abheri" scale like "megam karukkudhu mazhai vara paakudhu" from "Anandha ragam" fame.
Strongly agreeQuote:

Kai Veesi pramaadhamaana paattaache. Very good tune and backing music...
Thaalaattu is not just not there.. vandu koottam-um adhe dhaan

5 or 6 songs.., doesn't matter.let the movie even have a single song, the best song of the album and let that get enough screen time on TVs.I will be happy for that..
On the other note, the director can picturise all the songs and can give that only for the channels, without few of them not being part of the movie...
i remember one such movie..vijaykanth's vanchinathan had two songs played on TVs regularly, but when i watched the movie, movie had no songs at all...only fights throughout :)
While revisiting some of Raja's old albums today I ran across another Gypsy song. Its from Parthiban's Housefull. Was that one composed by Raja?

Mysskin interview:
http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/t...cle/45507.html
"Maestro Illayaraja – The Olympian; has he spelled something exceptional here?
Uh-huh! For the first time, he has used the instrument Oboe for background scoring. I had once heard the instrument in Hollywood movie 'Machine'. This musical instrument is so soothing that it's sure to get everyone transfixed on enchanting background score.
Looks like Illayaraja was upset over your elimination of songs.
Illayaraja had tuned 5 spellbinding melodies as I narrated my script. But as I glimpsed through first copy, only couple of songs were suitable for the screenplay and no options was left. Fine! Illayaraja was quite upset over this issue and then as he viewed the film, he could realize my work. "
